Matt Ronwell

Matt laughed at the sudden vehement response he received from both girls. "Come on, come on, relax a little, it'll work out fine. I know all the important stuff, besides isn't the point of going to a school to learn? What would be the fun if I already knew everything?" They certainly seemed rather enamored with the idea of knowing about deck types as being very important. Matt thought they were overhyping the idea but also accepted inwardly that it may have some merit. He'd find out after a duel or two, one way or the other.

When Ayami- hey that was weird, both the girls' names started with aya- stated she used Nekroz Aya went on a mini rant about them before seemingly becoming embarrassed and stopping. She then immediately seemed to shrink into herself and began playing around with her deck, which seemed to cheer her up to some extent. The red-head boy spoke up again to Aya, saying that Kajius were apparantly quite scary. Hm, maybe he should look them up on his disk. He opened up a holoscreen from his duel disk and started searching info on Kajus and then turned to Ayami.

"You seem to speak your mind and know what you're talking about. I'm genuinely interested, what is so important about knowing how other people's decks function. Can't you simply do your own thing and respond as necessary? For example let's take Kaijus, how does me knowing they're running Kaijus help me?" Of course he could see merits to knowing your opponent's deck. Knowing your opponent's biggest monster and how to stop it either from coming out or getting rid of it once it was out. Still it only helped if you had the cards to do something about it, otherwise it wouldn't matter even if you could see every card your opponent had while playing.

Another speed counter was added to collection. With three already collected, The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell could sense the pieces edging closer together so he could bring mayhem. Behind the helmet he stared at sanguine armed vampire and grumbled out, "Hmph."

He drew his next card. Fyodor contemplated about the current situation. At the moment his foe had a powerful champion of the bloodsuckers, through the sacrifices of vampiric domain. But that was all that rider had on the field. The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell did not have such a prevalent combatant. Fyodor needed to solve this problem.

"Think you're slick,
With Vampires quick?
Or that little Overlay trick?
Death will come to your Baronet.
But until then
I have a monster to set."

And the words he spoke rung true. As The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell placed a second monster down onto the field.

The biker grimaced underneath his mask. "Very well. Then the turn is my own. Draw!" he declared, adding a card to his hand. Another standby phase had passed and accumulating on the game was another speed token. His had 10 while his opponent had 4. "I'll activate the effect of Speed World 2... by removing 7 counters, I can draw an additional card." The counter ticked down on his duel runner as steam escaped from the machine, the mysterious biker falling back behind the Ghoulish Rider.

"Hm. Now. Bram! Attack his face down monster!"

Cooler walked in and looked around at the other New students. Everyone looked that same oddly enough, at least the same as the people on the bus. There was definitely a bias to what kind of people showed up here, but it was not for him to say. He didn't really care to duel any of these people or even attend the school. His motives were entirely different, but it had been a little while since he was in a duel. Maybe He could find someone to rub off some of the rust.

@Scarifar

"Kaijus terrifying? That's hilarious! I bet you think the Blue eye's are scary too! I could show you something a little scary... If you want, of course. Although it won't be fare against your... Kuriboh deck?"

Cooler smiled back at the mysterious man. Taunting people usually lead to a good duel, sometimes a fist fight. Cooler was sure he would be fine, not like anyone here wasn't some rich kid taking money off of daddy. This person stuck out though. So maybe he would prove different or maybe he would just add another win to Cooler's belt.

"I'm Cooler by the way. You'll probably see me around here as the top duelist!"

Lo! The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell watched as biker decided to lose some speed. A draw of the card would be quite useful to his opponent. And it was a sacrifice that did not harm his speed counters too much. But while it was something to note, there was a more important matter. The vampire knight swung his sword at the newest face down monster he had played. As the sword drew near, the card flipped up to reveal...

...

...

A human sized skeleton in some dingy robes rattling in fear. The sword slashed the poor creature into dust, which exploded away in a grey poof. Skull Servant was sent to the graveyard. Fyodor had some expression under his helmet. But that was to be between him and the Devil.

"Go! Crimson Knight Slash!" Bram leaped from his position in front of the duel runner toward where the card had remained face down, his sword drawing downward at the set card. From underneath, the rattling of a Skull Servant. The biker nodded as he saw the blow connect and Bram returned to its original position. "Hm. Did you think such a weak monster was going to stop me?" the biker insulted.

"I will set one card face down and end my turn." he declared, a card materializing face down in his spell and trap zone before disappearing.

The Duel Runner was pumping and thumping in time, churning and burning as it picked up even more speed as he gained the fifth speed counter. The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell took a moment to glance at the scenery before driving. And well, he took a moment to contemplate the sacrifice Skull Servant had made in its service. It may have been an ignoble death, but that servant stood upon the field of battle knowing it was probably going to die in service for The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell and the Devil.

He turned back to glance at the biker who did not seem to appreciate the sacrifice of, albeit a pitiful, Skull Servant.

"Do not be deceived by mere stats.
Skull Servant may not have desired to do this; however he intended to go through with it anyway.
When he was set onto the field, that skeleton asked why he was forsaken.
But even knowing that he was forsaken, he still obeyed and allowed himself to die for a more infernal cause."

Fyodor drew his next card.

There was a good and lengthy pause as The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell stared at his current hand. He placed it aside as he clasped his hands in a heretical prayer.

"Almighty Devil, Infernal Patron
You who shined brightest upon those torturous sands
Ye who were cast down into the darkest pit
May your gift allow me to make the rivers run red.
Now I may destroy this false idol!"

The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell pointed back towards the biker.
"ARE YOU READY TO WITNESS THE POWER OF DEVIL'S DISCIPLE!? ACTIVATE SPELL CARD!"

One of the two cards in his Spell & Field Zone flipped up to reveal, the Spell - Revival of Dokurorider. An odd choice to be sure, but despite the danger, Fyodor still had it prepared. The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell discarded a card from his hand into the graveyard. He raised his hands up towards the sky as his Duel Runner began swerving intensely, before moving into a spin out. from the 2000 life point cost to utilize a NON-Speed Spell.

"MY BLOOD FOR YOURS, ALL POWERFUL DEVIL!"
Fyodor howled out as he played through the pain and brought his arms back down to stabilize his runner. After another swerving motion, Fyodor was back on track. He breathed in and out for a few moments before raising his arms back up.

There was some crackling from the road, well slightly above it, as a great grave emerged. Dark Red lights flashed from it as a much mightier engine roar started to arise. From this tomb came a loud howl as a rider emerged onto the roadway.

Dokurorider, the horned skull-rider revved his engines as he nodded towards Fyodor.

"Oh but that's not all. I activate the special effect of the card I just sent to the graveyard."

Comically running out of the road graveplot that Dokurorider was a skeleton wielding a large wrench, slightly opened tool-box and blood and oil stained overalls. The Mechanic of Dokurorider seemed rather exhausted catching up to the biker. To symbolize this was a decrease of six little circles above his head fizzling out into just two.

"You see. Mechanic of Dokurorider is never that far behind when Dokurorider needs a tune-up. As such he has the special ability of returning back to the field when he is used as the ritual material to bring out Dokurorider. AND SPEAKING OF TUNING UP... I SHALL USE MY MECHANIC OF DOKURORIDER WITH MY DOKURORIDER TO SYNCHRO SUMMON..."

Mechanic of Dokurorider was seemingly breathing in and out heavily, still a bit faint of a lack of heart due to chasing after Dokurorider. Dokurorider turned towards Mechanic of Dokurorider and gave him a quick slap which sent the skeletal mechanic's head spinning around. Mechanic of Dokurorider began wrenching around the skull face of the box and taking assorted tools to other parts.

They radiated a bright orange as, instead of the usual green circles to denotate a synchro summon, three green pentagrams emerged. The graveplot that Dokurorider originally emerged through was shooting up flames, as a blood red star glowed in the sky.

The star came shooting down and struck the graveplot resulting in a explosion. Out from the carnage, emerged a new and imposing figure with a Hellish aura around him. It was the Solar Legacy, Dokurorider Heisei, Absolute Sovereign of the Damned.

Fyodor lowered his arms as he nodded solemnly at his Solar Legacy.

"Dokurorider Heisei, Absolute Sovereign of the Damned."

He pointed towards the Crimson Knight. "Kill it."

Dokurorider Heisei, Absolute Sovereign of the Damned rushed towards the vampire, performed a wheelie and slammed his front tire against Bram's face to destroy it.

"I am watching, but I do not know what I must be seeing here."

Marina wrinkled her nose at the chittering insectoid gypsy that now stood before her. It was an offense to her senses, her upbringing, and her heritage. More importantly, it was something that was happening when she did not permit it. Come next turn, she would come down upon this creature like the fist of God.

There was also someone off in the distance, saying something about breakfast. Bah! Breakfast was for the weak. A superior being such as herself only required one meal a day!

"Not at the merchant! Look at my deck!"

As the monster's effect occurred, Fuubi's deck began shrinking as absolutely ridiculous amounts of cards were sent to the graveyard. After a full sixteen monsters were milled, Fuubi finally drew a spell. He flashed it at Marina so she could see its color.

Now as a chain, several effects will take place! First... Sylvan Komushroomo! Its effect lets me destroy a trap or spell on your side of the field!"

If Fuubi destroyed Marina's trap without a hitch, then he'd carry on.

"Next, Sylvan Marshaleaf activates! Its effect destroys one of your monsters, leaving you wide open for my mightiest attack! MAGICAL MERCHANT, ATTACK WITH YOUR HORRIFYING SIX-ARMED SEXUAL ASSAULT!!"

If Marina's field was cleared, the insect would jog up to her and begin making lewd gestures at her with its many arms, unleashing the full power of its pathetic 200 ATK.

Marina winced slightly at the 200 life point loss. No matter how many times you took them, hits from solid vision still stung. She accelerated back to top smug immediately afterwards.

"Ha! You think you have gained the upper hand, but in doing so have only made me stronger!", she shouted, "-For you see, my trap card was Duston Roller all along! When this card is destroyed, I may add any one "Duston" monster from my deck-"

With this, Marina whipped a card from her deck holder with a flourish.

"-To my hand! It will take more than this to outsmart the great and powerful Marina Viktoriya Kohut, foolish dog!"

Happy to be back in the center of attention again, Aya decided to humor the two boys a little. Maybe it was a bad idea to tell your opponent everything they needed to know to beat you, but these guys weren't her opponent just yet. And maybe if she played her cards right, they wouldn't have to be. A brief fantasy flashed through her mind, and she bit the inside of her cheek trying not to say it out loud. Instead, she fanned out her deck in her hands, picking out a single monster and handing it to Matt.

"See, this is one of my monsters." She said, handing him a sliver of cardboard illuminated in the blacks and reds of a burning populace. Somewhere over a burning wreck of a city, at a scale almost too large for the human mind to contemplate without making a mess of it's metaphorical trousers- A figure, upright, vaguely reptiloid, with a heavy, dragging tail that shook aside skyscraper and mountain alike in it's wake. Two leathery, bat-like wings sprung from it's carapace, wreathed in the smoke and dust of the thousands of cyclones, storms and hurricanes the thing left in it's presence, and the eye was drawn, trembling and unsure, all the way up to the burning embers that crowned this hideous shambling monstrousity, all but confirming in the gaze of that flame-ringed eyes it's superiority over all life. "He's a cutie, isn't he? I call him Doggie!"

"But that's not really important right now, I want you to read the card, first, because nearly all the Kaiju monsters i can pull out have that effect of being able to be given to my opponent basically whenever i want. There's nearly never a situation where you don't have someone else's monster looking at you from across the field, so it's not a problem to get out Kaijus from my deck to my hand, and summoning Kaijus to fight each other is super easy, and - HEY!"

That last remark wasn't so much addressed at Matt, but at the newcomer who'd decided, out of nowhere, to come up to her and start insulting her cute beasties. Even if he didn't appear to have noticed her, he'd insulted her honour. No dignity to anyone who would ever do something so cruel as insult someone's deck. "Beep beep!" She began, putting both hands on the headrest of her chair, trying to hold herself up as she rose out of her seat. She'd presumably interrupted whatever he was going to say to the redhead by screeching all over it, but that didn't matter right now. "Ya wanna back up that trash, or do you just want to get run over?"

"Tsk tsk tsk. How naive." the biker remarked. The Ghoulish Rider's attacking monster rammed its own bike into Bram. Before it could make contact, however, a pair of pitch black wings materialized over the vampire, protecting it.

"I activate my trap card: Phantom Knights' Wing! It grants my monster and additional 500 attack, and the first time this turn, he is not destroyed by battle!" the biker explained. Using its new pair of wings, Bram pushed Dokurorider Heisei away, back toward the side of the Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell. The Crimson Knight Vampire stood proudly, flaunting its wings as it narrowly avoided destruction.

"Then how about this!? BERSERKER SOOOOUUUL!!"

Fuubi immediately slammed down a quick play spell card. Suddenly, the Magical Merchant's eyes turned red. Its body began to grow, swelling with corded muscle, thorax sprouting spiked ridges. As it reached a height of nine feet, each of its six arms arched into its backpack and in turn, neatly removed a thick, gilded dagger.

"At the price of sending my hand to the grave, I can use the deadliest spell card in the game... And now, I chain Volcanic Scatter shot, who was in my discarded hand!"

Fuubi jammed his last cards into the Graveyard. The scattershot he sent would lauch a sudden fireball out of the grave to inflict 500 damage to Marina.

"I can send up to eight cards from the top of my deck to the Graveyard, and for each monster sent, YOU TAKE 500 DAMAGE! HEEEEAAAAAUUUUBLBLBLBAUUUGHH!!!"

With a mad battle cry, Fuubi began viciously drawing cards. With each monster he drew and flung to the Graveyard, Magical Merchant would aim a jagged slice at Marina with one of its many daggers.

Each monster sent seemed radically different from the next, as if there were no common theme to Fuubi's deck. A submarine, a white furred monster, a woman in a jumpsuit, another scattershot (delivering a second 500 lp fireball to Marina's life points), a goblin in what seemed to be a ninja gi, a heavily armored robot, and at last a spell card, forcing the chaotic barrage to a smoking halt and potentially leaving Marina void of life points.

"Wouldn't it be better to let you find out what variant I'm using instead? Knowing what I'm using is half the fun gone, but guessing what my win condition is... That's a question all it's own," Ayami said, quietly shuffling her deck as Matt asked if knowing archetypes mattered. The answer, of course, was obvious to her.

"To know a person's deck is to know their weapons--what they can do, how they can do it, and what you can do to stop it. All decks have some core weaknesses, and if you know what deck they run, those weaknesses can be exploited. For example, against Artifacts, you would do well to not hit their backrow, lest you trigger something like a Moralltach or a Sanctum. By that same logic, though, you also become able to play around what the opponent might do. In the Kaiju matchup, as you asked--" she began to ramble before being cut off by the one actually using the Kaiju deck.

Well, fair was fair; let the pilot do the talking and all that. Side decking was also something to note, but it felt kind of hypocritical saying as much without having gathered one herself.

The arrival of an egomaniac on the scene put a dampener on her mood, though. While not nearly as aggravated as Aya seemed to be at the moment, Ayami certainly found it rather crude to just insult someone so offhandedly. Blue-Eyes were also a stronger archetype, though most of the duels involving them came from simulations or replays in her experience, and so the aggravator's jeering fell flat on her.

"If you're going to insult someone, at least do it correctly. With that level of cockiness, I can guarantee you'll have a rude awakening in your future," she said, staring at Aya to try to get her to stand down. "The best Duelists have a sound mind and a reliable Deck; you are lacking at least one of those, if not both. I suggest you remain quiet, unless you want everyone else here to become your enemy."

She, of course, would not fight if he began to call for one. Giving in to goading was not on her agenda for the day.

Matt nodded as Ayami explained as he assumed she would. Before she got far enough to explain more specifically Aya once again excitedly spoke up showing him an example of one of the cards. Matt looked at the card but before he could get very far someone named Cooler barged in. And was barged right out as Aya burst into a tirade over whatever he was saying. What a funny girl, he felt hanging around her would be quite fun if she was always like this. Matt laughed quietly to himself, "Seriously Cooler? Do you have a sister named Hotter?" He said it casually with only a whisper of mocking in his tone, but it was certainly loud enough for Cooler to hear. Matt looked back at the card and continued reading before speaking again, ignoring the presence of Cooler now. "So if all Kajius are like this what do you do if your opponent doesn't play any monsters?"

Dokurorider Heisei was not prepared for the reveal of that butterfly with bullet wings. His motorcycle was knocked back as he crashed onto the roadway in an explosion. The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway had some expression under his helmet. But that was between him and the Devil. "At least I know what that faced down was. And he does not know mine...Plus..."

"...Despite the unfortunate of that accident, it is not enough to keep Heisei down. I shall use his special ability and banish Dokurorider from the graveyard in order to revive Dokurorider Heisei - Absolute Sovereign of the Damned."

But there was no more room in Hell, as Dokurorider Heisei - Absolute Sovereign of the Damned revved his engines and rode out of the explosion. Following him was a spectral version of Dokurorider. Heisei extended out his right arm, while Dokurorider stuck out his left arm. They fist bumped as Dokurorider faded off into the aether.

He pointed at the biker to note that it was now his turn.

"Hm. So you survived Bram's counterattack. Very well. It is my turn. Draw." his duel runner dispensed another card, which he swiped from the deck. He looked at it for a brief moment before putting it in his hand. Four speed counters, four cards in hand. Though he had picked up some speed near the beginning of the duel, he had sacrificed quite a bit of it for an extra card. Though it did not appear as such, the biker had a few tricks up his sleeve; the two Phantom Knight cards which could activate from the grave. It was not time yet, however.

"Let's go then. Bram. Finish what you started. Attack his other facedown!"

The vampire flaunted its new pair of wings. It soared into the air, spinning twice before diving, sword first at the Ghoulish Rider's monster.

"Oh what was that you wanted to do?" The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell remarked.

"YOU ARE IN THE COURT OF THE ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGN OF THE DAMNED! AS LONG AS HE IS ON THE FIELD YOU CANNOT MESS WITH HIS SERVANTS!" Fyodor gestured towards Dokurorider Heisei - Absolute Sovereign of the Damned.

The aura surrounding Dokurider Heisei glowed as it forcefully manuevered the knight into battling with him once again.

"What!?"" the biker shouted as Dokurorider Heisei made its way toward Bram. Bram's sword clashed against the front wheel of Dokurorider's ride, and in a single explosion, the both of them were destroyed.

And returning out of the explosion was Dokurorider Heisei carrying Dokurorider's Mechanic by his collar. The skeletal mechanic was rattling as Dokurorider Heisei - Absolute Sovereign of the Damned just stared at him for a moment. He used his other hand to pat the Mechanic's shoulder before throwing him off into the sky with a distinctive twinkle.

"I'm sure you know the Absolute Sovereign of the Damned's rule is eternal by now."

The biker grimaced. "Hmph. I'll set two cards and end my turn." he groaned, slapping the two cards onto his board. They materialized in front of him before vanishing. "Your move."

Now at seven speed counters, The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell drew his next card. He glanced towards the field his opponent had set before him. While the metaphorical roadway was free of imaginary traffic, there were still potential hazards to be found in the Spell & Trap Zone.

Fyodor paused for a moment before preparing for his turn.

"What is a man if not a miserable pile of secrets?" The Ghoulish Rider - Traveler of the Highway of Hell mused. "I'll reveal a secret for you. And in doing so..." Fyodor said as he showed the Speed Spell - High Speed Crash. His Duel Runner reduced in speed as he used four of his seven speed tokens to activate one of Speed World 2's effects.

800 damage would be coming to the other rider's life-points.

"Now then, I showed one of my secrets. It is time to destroy one of yours. I activate Speed Spell - High Speed Crash! I shall send my face down monster to the graveyard to send the rightmost card in your Spell & Trap Zone to the grave in exchange!

The face down monster card went on a collision course to strike the face down in a glorious vehicular accident.
