Welcome to the country of Amestris, more specifically the capital of Central City, home to many different ranks of State Alchemist. Our story begins after the fall of Fuhrer King Bradley and the rise of Fuhrer Mustang. The country is currently in a state of recovery and uncertainty, trying to weed out any whom still stand for the ideals of Bradley and on constant look-out for any possible coups to reinstate a reign of corruption and chaos.

"Should you choose to accept the position of State Alchemist, you'll be required to serve the military in times of national emergency. In return, you'll receive privileges and access to otherwise restricted research materials. If you join, the decision will be yours and yours alone, it is entirely up to you now. We will not force you, we merely offer the possibility. Whether to move forward or stay still. Will you stand up and seize the chance the military can offer you?"

"Stand up and walk. Keep moving forward. You've got two good legs, so use them. You're strong enough to make your own path."

This is where you will begin your adventure, you start as a common civilian with promise and potential in the field of alchemy, taking the military exams. Whatever your reasons for joining the State Military, whether it be to make a name for yourself, personal power, a means to obtain money for everyday expenses and food, or to simply hone your abilities; you've come to the right place.

We're going to be waiting for everyone (so far six people who've stated their interest that I will link to this topic) to post their character sheets here in the OOC to be approved. And then I will let you know if its approved and to put it in the Characters tab when done. Once everyone has their character sheets up, I will start the IC off with a post. Since I made the interest check about a week ago, and we've gotten about six people who've stated interest, we're gonna be going with that.

If you're all still interested, here is the OOC @FantasyChic, @caliban22, @Wernher, @The Survivor, @Rekaigan, @ReallyGoodName.

Name: Sebastian Bergwerk

Age: 14

Gender: Male

Appearance: Sebastian is a short and slight boy, with dark hair that looks almost blue when the light hits it a certain way. His body, however skinny, is somewhat toned due to the nature of his family. He wears a mix of his own attire with state uniform, the only thing that's constant is the layer of dirt and grime and his state alchemist pocket watch. He's often wearing a pair of state blue goggles on his head, with blue cargo pants and the black undershirt that all military personnel wear. On formal occasions, he will wear his full uniform to look the part, mostly to avoid any attention to himself. He can sometimes be seen wearing large leather and metal gloves with transmutation circles on them, one could only guess what he uses them for.

Personality: Sebastian is an earnest, charming, and quite genuine person. He can be sarcastic and witty at times, but he doesn't mean any true harm to anyone by it. He's probably one of the last people someone would consider military material or in fact a genius, yet he's both. He's quite deserving of his rank as he is also happens to have a natural talent for battle strategy. He's not too concerned with outward appearance, even in the presence of someone he's romantically interested in. He believes it gives himself character. He does shower, at least once a week, but one way or another, he's always got a dirt or grime somewhere on himself. He despises oppressors of any kind, from schoolyard bullies to tyrants. Sebastian believes in Fuhrer Mustang, more so than he did Bradley. That's one of the reasons he became a state alchemist, to do his part in ensuring Amestris remains as tyrant free as possible.

Specialties:
Primary

- Earth Alchemy: Sebastian specializes in the transmutation of every element of rock, soil, metal, if its related to the earth's core features, you can bet he knows how to manipulate it.

- Natural Born Mechanic and Engineer: While he's always been too small to be an effective miner, he sure knows how to make stuff work. His mind is wired mathematically and there isn't anything he can't fix.

Secondary:
- Skilled Driver: Sebastian can drive pretty much anything, even if he doesn't really know how he can figure it out pretty quick.

- Geologist: The nature of his alchemical research makes him more or less a bonafide geologist, he knows all about rocks.

- Strategic Talent: Sebastian is a surprisingly good tactician and even surprises himself sometimes with the successful plans he comes up with.

State Title: Major Sebastian Bergwerk, The Roving Earth Alchemist

History: Sebastian Bergwerk was born to a miner and a waitress in a mining town in eastern Amestris. His two older brothers were born a few years apart and three years before he was born. Growing up, Sebastian always like to believe his body was so small because all that mass had went to his brain. Because he was so small, he got work solving problems practically than with strength. He became the town mechanic/scientist/engineer and was often called upon to make sure things are running. He began to discover alchemy when he was 9 years old, when he found some old books about it on the edge of town. All of a sudden, he didn't just have to solve problems with his brain power alone, but with the help of alchemy. He began to study it and put it to use, some experiments successful and others disastrous. Sebastian began to form a fascination with the earth and begin to learn more about it and eventually manipulate it with alchemy.

But disaster struck when he was 13, his father was in a mining accident. Sebastian used alchemy to save his father's life, but he was crippled, his legs shattered and useless. The blow was devastating. His family would lose a source of income and have to spend extra to keep him medically sound. A few months later, Sebastian heard the story of Edward Elric, the youngest alchemist in history and thought, "If he could do it, why can't I?". He knew the money from the alchemist position would be great for keeping his family in the black and the resources available could offer a way to fix his father's legs and expand his own knowledge. So Sebastian set out for the capital and passed the test, becoming one of the youngest state alchemists and one of the youngest officers in the military.

Equipment:

- Miner Goggles: Goggles he wears on his head everywhere, he painted them blue when he became a state alchemist.

- The Earth Gloves: A pair of gloves he's been experimenting with, they allow him to manipulate the earth with a snap of his fingers through the transmutation circles inscribed on each glove.

Name: Karl Eisenach

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Appearance:
Military service made the young Karl develop his physique rather well, being lucky enough to be tall and somewhat handsome, though his glasses and educated looks do betray his nature as more of an indoor person in his free times. It is notable that for a man of his rank and his wealth, the man is noticeably well dress and figure well kept, habits left from his young age as the son of a tailor.

Personality:
Eisenach seems like an unapproachable person at first glance and by all records it once was the case, but his time on the front line softened his somewhat rigorous and cold attitude toward the outside. He sees people as deserving of respect until proven otherwise and despite his obvious importance on first impression, with how fanatically he grooms himself, he's willing to give people a chance no matter who they are or how they look. He tends however, to give people only that one chance. This is because Karl is a decisive person, that hates people that are long winded or cannot make a decision as well as one who is certain of his own views and not prone to change them.

Specialties:
Primary:
-Chemical Gas Alchemy: His expertise, the transmutation of the elements primarily into chlorine gas, but also other noxious and poisonous agents.
-Stormtroop Veteran: Developed from the trial and errors of his unit in the north, in the fight against Drachma. Pushing out entrenched enemies using shock and awe is what his career is built on.

Secondary:
-Mechanical Engineering: While he can use alchemy to do repairs and constructs, he doesn't like it. 'Too stiff somehow' as he says it, and prefers to manually interact with the pieces. He's decent at repairing things ranging from weapons to automobiles, enough to make them work at least.
-Sewing: He might not be a tailor like his father, but he prides himself never having to get some prole to repair his clothing.
-Drawing: His true passion.

Tertiary:
-Medical Alchemy: Enough to prevent someone from bleeding out while real help gets here.

State Title: Captain Eisenach, the Creeping-Cloud Alchemist

History:
Born in Altheim, Central District, Karl was the son of a tailor turned industrialist involved in synthetic dye production. It never really was in his interest to go about the family business since he already had older siblings to take over. While he originally wanted to be an artist, his father demanded that he didn't have a useless profession and one that could help the family business. Chemistry seemed like a good option and in the end he disliked it. That meant he flunked his exams and unfortunately, that meant he now had to do military service.

Amestris is... or rather was, a nation constantly at war so conscription was natural and to Karl's displeasure, he was sent in the north, to stare at the Drachmen and eventually, to fight them. He started in a unit of fresh recruits and saw a lot of his friends die in the clumsy start of the war, the only thing saving them from their incompetence being how the soldiers from Drachma were even worst! Slowly they learned but so did the enemy as this escalated constantly, each side trying to edge the other in abilities and tactics.

It was during this time that Karl learned how honor didn't shield you from bullets and applied some of the things he had learned. A by-product of synthetic dye was extremely toxic and volatile chemicals he had studied longly and as it turns out, Chlorine is a natural element. He didn't have the technological means to try what he wanted and so dabbed into alchemy, his little tricks on the enemy slowly becoming more and more elaborate as he poisoned entire trenches, forcing them into the open for his comrades to clear out, this eventually attracted the attention of a real state Alchemist who saw talent in his amateurish work and thus encouraged him to study more formally, giving him the material to better himself.

And then, the war ended. And Karl was pissed. All this time and effort, all these dead and so very, very close to victory! And the new führer, Mustang, decided to do peace with Drachma, without asking for an inch of land, for a Cenz of compensation! Karl felt betrayed like never before, that all of this meant nothing! Not only in the north, but in the south where Ishbal was left... free to go! Just like that, all of the war for nothing. All of it for what, friendship that would be forgotten in a generation? To allow Xing access to modern military equipment, modernize and become a menace to the next generation as well?

Ultimately Karl was of course being kept in the dark, like most of the population and army, about what Bradley did, but it only infuriated him more and worked to make it seem like Mustang was a Xing puppet! A plotter that won his place by a coup d'État! At least Bradley won the wars. Karl agrees: Amestris needs change and its not as a little artist or tailor he'll help. If becoming a state Alchemist makes him better placed to see that the traitor Mustang sees justice, then he'd become one.

Equipment:
-Bayonet: He keeps it in his boot to shank people in case of emergency.
-Lucky Piss Rag: ...Its been cleaned, of course, but never will he forget how crudely he had to protect himself from his own chemicals when it all began, a rag soaked with piss being the most basic and available filter for chlorine. He's never been hit by a bullet ever since he started using his piss rag and although he now has a gas mask, he still carries it around as a lucky charm.
-Military Boots: Just a pair of well worn, although extremely well maintained boots. Well, a little more, the transmutation circle of his chlorine gas cloud is under each boot, printing it on the earth he walks. Otherwise, its chalk circles for him.

That's fine. I'm taking time before I even respond to the character sheets (about a day per CS) in case people want to make changes before I send them a PM discussing their characters before I can accept them. And you have as long as until everyone posts their character sheets, and we only have two of six up. So, unless you're the last person to submit a character sheet and taking a while, there won't be much problem until we have the rest in.

Well, I'm going to give this another 24 hours for the other three people to voice their continued interest in this. Otherwise, we only have three interested and I'd really rather not start this game without at least six people. If there's only three or four, people will get bored of there being so little variety in posts and it will most likely die off shortly afterwards. So would rather not start without a few more.

@Fancy Party To be honest, I think this is good as its gonna get bro. Sometimes its better just to wrap it up and tuck the idea in storage, wait until you got a bit more experience on the site, you know? I've had multiple roleplays I've tried to start in the past fail, its no big deal.

Fair enough. That's probably what I'll end up doing anyway. I'd rather have it come to be later in the future when I've got it more fleshed out and handled than start it and have it end up dying. Or maybe someone with more experience will pick it up wherever its left off.
