Joined up the other day (to, admittedly, pile onto an RP here run by an acquaintance from elsewhere). Introductions are always a bit fun for me o figure out, but here we go.
I've been roleplaying for years now, although I'm far more used to doing chat-based things where sessions meet once a week, than doing forum-based things. I can keep up with forums well enough, but I am really bad at running forum games compared to chat ones, simply because the difference in pacing really throws me off. It's a lot harder to move things forward when i need to wonder how long to wait for others to post, versus assuming they aren't going to. Though I hear the answer is "just post more as a GM" in that case.
I tend to like scifi RPs more than traditional fantasy. Cyberpunk, space adventure, and similar things get my attention more than typical fantasy adventure, whether that be dungeon crawling or whatever else. I think I'm a little burnt out on Urban fantasy or whatever they call the stuff set in modern day with supernatural things everywhere. Which isn't to say it's a bad genre, it's just usually not compelling to me, particularly if it's set up like Vampire: the Masquerade or similar. I tend to like games with some amount of plot and which aren't too fast-paced, because I usually only manage a couple posts in a week. I'm a grad student; I can easily end up busy.
As far as other things go, I did mention chat-based stuff, and there, I'm used to systems and rolling dice. So, I'm not averse to such things. I'm familiar with Pathfinder, D&D 4th edition, Shadowrun, Mutants and Masterminds (2nd and 3rd editions), Exalted, and several other systems. I'm not usually one for fandom-based things, unless it's just borrowing the setting and playing our own characters and story. I can't really wrap my head around playing an established character, and would worry my interpretation is somehow "wrong".
For hobbies outside of roleplaying, I play video games, watch anime, build models, and draw.
