I could see Cordyceps zombies being a good one. If it was mutants only that would be fun like if regular zombies had starved out and the only ones left had to adapt.

So I've read through all of the suggestions and people seem to be saying these things:

We need diverse characters to keep things interesting and realistic. There also needs to be a real element of danger so that the world really impacts these characters and will cause them to make decisions they wouldn't normally. I like the idea of this as I personally would like to see it be a more dark, gritty roleplay. We shouldn't have one leader, or a predefined team, so that we can shape our characters as we wish and all of the characters can bring individual skills to the table. There should be some environmental threats too, and our characters shouldn't be running around with AK-47's and sniper rifles and rocket launchers with unlimited ammo. People should be a threat to people, not just having the zombies as the main threat. People can die, but not all the time, so that character development and relationships can actually be explored and a story can be told.

Regarding the actual zombies, I like the idea of having them be like the infected with the RAGE virus. That's my favourite zombie virus and it would work well if we want more danger. However, I'm not sure if the 20-30 second turn timer would be good or not.

A way to tackle the problem of everyone having advanced weapons is having the setting somewhere guns are illegal or uncommon which would sort out the problem fairly easily.

Another idea I thought of when dealing with people vs people, is if our characters didn't all form into one group. They could form into two separate groups, and at some point they come across each other and end up not being very good friends. Either that or we have some dangerous npc gangs and bandits.

I agree with all of that.

I think a mix of NPC gangs and having our character's group split up good be awesome. Maybe one of our groups, let's say group A thinks the NPC gang are good people but they come across group B and want to kill them all. So group A decides to save group B. I don't know, something like that you know.

Boring. Everyone needs their steel fix.

Ammo should be the rarity. Like rolled randomly. Rare calibers should actually have a bonus rather than a minus because they wont be immediatly consumed the way that the others will.

I disagree with having the setting where guns are uncommon or illegal. The whole struggle with zombie apocalypses are the need to find supplies. If we make the setting too early in the outbreak there will be way to much ammunition to go around. If we set it back a little later, then there will be less. Not to mention most of it will be scattered, it wouldn't be in places most people would expect like police stations or gun stores. It would either be hoarded by a group or hidden/scattered.

Another way to solve the gun thing is to have the infected attracted to sound, like most are. People would be less likely to use guns if they knew the sound would draw more infected to them. It would make sense for most people surviving later on in the timeline to have at least one fire arm and a small supply of ammunition with them for emergencies. Also most people would likely opt out of carrying large, high-powered artillery, simply because it more cumbersome to carry around and less practical. Also if we add in the threat of other people, larger weapons would be more noticeable and thus less people would carry them around to avoid being targeted.

That makes sense. I think that's a good idea, having it set a little later back so there is less ammo about rather than having it somewhere guns are illegal.

Anybody disagree?

@Wombatallion Remember though, the later it is, the more people will have recovered and the less zombies there will be

I've really been wanting to find an apocalypse rp so I'll be keeping my eye on this. So far any concerns or ideas I may have had have already been brought up by others, but if I think of something else I'll be sure to post it.

@Wombatallion I would say set it maybe 6 months to a year into the apocalypse. This way the characters have to deal with the struggle of finding supplies while also giving humanity time to realize that they need to turn against one another, you know, survival of the fittest.

@LostDestiny That could also help build distinctions in experience because some will have been able to hide for that long while others have fought

Okay, so these are the things that it appears most of us have agreed on and are happy with:

-Having a diverse set of characters.
-Having dangerous zombies that actually pose a threat, similar to RAGE zombies.
-People versus people, to add an extra degree of danger and so we can explore what people will do to survive.
-Death happening, but not so often that people wont have time to develop characters and tell a story.
-Having guns, but ammo being rare, and zombies being attracted to sound so people think about using them.
-Setting it six months to a year into the apocalypse so we still had a skill gap between characters.

I'm hoping to start on the OOC today and have it up by some point tomorrow. If there is anything I've forgotten or anything else we haven't discussed yet it would be best if you could tell me before then.

One more thing. Do you think when I open the OOC it should be open to more applications, or should we only have people from this IC at first?

@Wombatallion If they've contributed they should at least have first dibs

@Wombatallion I agree with Marshall, those that contribute should definitely get first dibs on character slots.

Also, I large cast would probably be preferable in threads such as this. It allows for multiple groups (rivaling groups if we wish) and a good diversity.

I would limit the number of military members allowed. Not all of the characters can be ex military or ex police force.
