It's the perfect age. You're old enough that people take you seriously and can actually do things independently, but young enough to not be held fully responsible for your actions.

Dude, I'm 20 and no one takes me seriously. I am held fully responsible, though, which i agree with.

As seriously as the world takes anyone. You're no longer "just a kid" at 17. While it's pretty much the case that nobody's opinions really matter to anyone, you can actually do things at 17.

It absolutely does. There are plenty of manga I'd suggest that I wouldn't suggest the anime of, and vice versa.

Which would be fine had we not already established that I've tried all avenues of media that AoT exists in. "The show" also includes the rest of them in this context.
