@Awson Not really that big of a fan, saw the show forever ago when it was on adult swim. But even cursory knowledge of the anime. I never thought this would be a good movie, I'm not even sure it could work with a good director...and not the guy who made Snow White & The Huntsman.

But if you saw it, and enjoyed it. Good. Nothing wrong with that. :3 But you certainly seem to be in the minority on that one, critics and IMDB users seem to all dislike it. The shitty remakes seem to be in full demand nowadays...just listening to a clip of Beauty and the Beast, the auto tuning was so, so bad.

On a unrelated note, people defending netflix's death note...I'm not even really a "weeb" by any standard. But how can anyone expect that to be any good? Especially by that trailer...You know, maybe it's the cynic in me. But as much as people like to laugh at people for overreacting...(and granted, It's the internet, it's always overreacting in all circles.) But at the very same time, how many times does it actually turn out that the nerd rage was wrong? I swear more often than not, people are right on the money...maybe by the simple fact it's easier to cash grab and suck. Then to actually be good and put effort in something. But I can't remember of any video game and movie rage fest, that didn't turn out almost exactly as expected...at least recently.

Yes. I've seen the original movie as recently as two months ago in a theater. My fucking avatar is from the TV series. I've seen the TV series.

I like the movie exactly for what it is. It's not meant to be an exact adaptation of GitS 1995. They made an origin story instead. There are liberties taken, but that doesn't mean it's not very good for what it is.

And just about the time I walked out of the theater I became sick and tired of parroted opinions by people who really don't know what they're talking about.

Just glancing at the people's review and a lot of people call it a dumbed down version/or Hollywood-ised version of the story. Does that make them wrong for having an opinion? When your opinion is you liked the movie and didn't mind the changes? I don't think either of you are wrong/"don't know what the other is talking about" because as a piece of medium, someone may like what others don't. There's nothing wrong with that...

And just for the record, I've seen people with pictures and avatars for shows they've never seen or games they never played. It doesn't actually hold a lot of weight. x3

I don't care in the slightest about the "white washing" or the things that it was attacked for before the movie came out. I just don't think that particular director has made a good movie. And I kind of figured it HAD to be dumbed down, in an hour and a half. It's the kind of series I don't think I'd want to watch an abridged version of, honestly. It's just my personal opinion. It is -not- the same as everyone's else's. :P

Also from reading about it. (As it turns out, this is a movie about a Japanese girl kidnapped against her will and transformed into an American actress.) Wut?

And does anyone really want to watch an origin story? I'm happy marvel spiderman movie coming out, ISN'T an origin story...like remakes, reboots, origin stories tend to feel like been there, done that. (Yes, most people say that but I'd argue for good reason. xP)

I'll watch it and probably like it. Not necessarily because it's good, but because my taste is so shit that I can enjoy literally anything.

He is exactly saying that...yes. He says he doesn't want to hear things you've heard from other people without having seen the movie. It doesn't make your opinion mean anything when you say "I heard...I read...I thought..." with no actual knowledge or opinion formed from having seen the thing you're talking about.

Well I'm going today. To prep myself I rewatched the original and the (2015 anime) reboot last night. I don't think I need to rewatch the series because at this point I've practically got both gigs memorized.

Try your best not to spend the entire time contrasting in your head. It's worse than the source material. However, it's a good movie by its own merit.

My plan was to contrast it against the 2015 reboot, more than the original source material.

On a sidenote, it is really amusing that this debate about copies being manufactured but possibly missing the soul of the original is centered around GiTS, of all things.
