Let me tell you a story –– one that was lost many years ago. When people hear it, they are sometimes filled with deep regret and sorrow. Others wish they had never heard it at all. And lastly, there are some who believe that, because I am the one telling it, it must be false. "Propaganda." Don't let them say that. This all happened, more or less; it is important that we never forget it so that the mistakes of the past do not become the mistakes of the future.

It starts like this. Once upon a time, the world was protected by great heroes of all shapes and sizes and strengths. Though they hailed from different corners of the world, they worked together harmoniously to defend humanity's interests. When the Omniums turned against their creators for the first time like a child rebelling against its parents, it did so on a cataclysmic scale. Some of you are likely too young to remember, but 'hope' was something that was in short supply.

The United Nations created the team from a selection of skilled combatants from all over the world. Through this ragtag strike team, along with other heroes whose names have been lost to time, each of the Omniums all across the globe were shut down, one by one, until victory was assured.

Perhaps the founding members of Overwatch should have just put their feet up and had a nice cup of tea. God knows we deserved it. The public idolised us, and from the monuments and statues and medals and awards it became clear that our work would never be done. Under a new commander, Overwatch became a peace-time organisation; given sanction to do as they pleased, and it pleased them to continue with their good work. The Omnic threat had subsided, but they could shield the new, budding future that held neither hate nor prejudice.

In the shadows, their sister organisation, Blackwatch, thrived. Someone had to be willing to get their hands (and reputation) dirty in the name of peace. The criminal element seeking redemption by working for Overwatch in spirit, if not in name, was often criticised as being unstable, unreliable and undesirable, but the dangerous jobs were completed, whatever the cost.

This equilibrium could not last forever. A series of suspicious events led to a loss of UN funding, then the trust of the people, and then even its leaders in the catastrophic destruction of the Zürich base. Everything that the organisation had worked so hard to achieve crumbled away, and the world was cast back into darkness.

Once upon a time, there were heroes. But where are they now? The Omniums are reactivating one by one and once more threaten us with mass destruction. Some even welcome the chaos they bring. Overwatch has returned with less of the firepower but all of the heart. It is the time for new names to mix with old veterans as they answer the call to arms in the first days of the Second Omnic War.

————————————————————————————————————————

Welcome to Recall, an Overwatch Roleplay! This RP will be centered around returning Overwatch agents new and old, set a few months after Winston's Recall cinematic. In that time, Omniums around the world have been showing signs of activation. It's Overwatch's goal as a united group of heroes to save the world from the impending Omnic War. As the agents are sent to each country affected by the reactivating Omniums to dismantle them once more, they might find that an army of machines are not the only obstacles in their way. An old enemy lies in wait, ready to strike at any sign of vulnerability in the name of chaos.

As players, we will be taking control of the canon Overwatch characters, but only those specifically affiliated with Overwatch. This means that Talon characters and characters who are MIA (Ana and Jack) will be unplayable to begin with. In addition to this, we will not be allowing Omnic chacters for various reasons until a certain point in the IC. A comprehensive list of playable characters:

  • Mercy
  • DVa
  • Pharah
  • Genji
  • Hanzo
  • Lucio
  • McCree
  • Mei
  • Reinhardt
  • Torbjorn
  • Tracer
  • Zarya

The other characters will become playable as the roleplay moves on. Yhese spots aren't limited and aren't on a first come, first serve basis. I will judge if you're right for the character and if you can play them well. That being said, I will allow OCs so long as they're new recruits or apprentices who have never been a part of Overwatch. They're fresh with no connections or affiliations with the original members. Omnic OCs are subject to the same restriction as canon ones. All characters must use real life face claims (unless not applicable to the character) - no stock or incredibly low quality photos, please.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll give you my best answers. As well, if there's a character that's not up there, I might have missed them. Or they might not be there for a reason. Either way, I won't know and neither will you until you ask!

————————————————————————————————————————

Here's the Character Sheet! Any further information, and likely past/present plot points will go here. I might put a Q&A here, as well, if there's enough questions asked to necessitate one.

Please don't "dibs" any characters. I'll set a tentative deadline for character sheets: April 15th, by midnight EST/GMT+4. It's bound to change, depending on when everyone decides to submit their sheets and whether we hit capacity or not. Capacity being... whenever I think we have too many people.

I try not to set very hard limits, but if you're making an OC, try not to make 'em too similar to each other or canon characters. Diversity is key, and that's not just concerning powers.

Yes! It'll be how I judge whether or not you'd be a good fit for the canon character!

It says are characters should be excepted before we post a cs , does the fact that you ok'd me , to tryout for tracer mean I should make a sheet and then wait to be excepted after that or do I send you my tracer sheet somewhere else?

Aye, sorry it took a bit to get back.

Histories should stay as close to canon as they can. But, of course, there's plenty of leeway to be had due to the spotty nature Blizzard has with its lore. :-P As for images, definitely looking for real life faceclaims! It can be hard to find one that fits, but if you can get as close as you can, that's more than I expect.

@Deadlyrose9641 That's only for posting characters in the CS tab, in order to keep it clean and tidy (also uniform). If you're gunning for a character or making an OC, plop 'em down right in here. I'll take a look at em individually for evaluation once the deadline hits.

I don't think Genji is very comfortable running around without his mask. I could be wrong, but he barely shows his face once, and that was to his brother to convince him he was actually his brother.

There's craptons of DVa, and Mercy. Try just putting in "Overwatch [character] casual"
I know I've found a really good one for Pharah.

It might not be that Genji is uncomfortable with his mask off. He seems at terms with his appearance, to be honest. We just haven't necessarily seen him in many moments outside of combat - save for the cute snowball fight with Zenyatta.

You don't necessarily have to type in, "[Overwatch Character] Cosplay," if you find someone relatively close to the character in models or actors or anyone really, that might work even better.

@Deadlyrose9641 I'll need you to use the CS sheet that's in the OP of this thread before I can think of accepting Tracer.

But, I won't be accepting any canon characters that have anything copy-pasted from wikis or from official Overwatch websites.

@Lady Selune

The last part applies to your Mercy sheet as well

I won't accept anything that's been copy pasted from official sites or "unofficial" wikis. Since it's been written by another person entirely, it won't give me a good representation of your writing or how you'll write the character. I also need an image for these characters in order to accept them; uniformity and all that

Okay so like they need pictures of people dressed up as the character in a Cosplay for a fictional character when there is literally tons of official art work and fan art for them? Does this also apply to an orginal character?

@Jinxlynx

I'd have used art styles and the like, but then I'd have to limit it to a specific few artists, otherwise they all look so starkly different. Too different. Is it picky? Sure as hell is, but where can you find me a bunch of art that closely resembles Overwatch's aesthetic without looking off - or dissimilar? I'd have to completely disallow OCs in order to get something uniform. Because I can't really control what kind of art work you guys intend to find. All of it varies too much in style and a lot of it won't fit with Overwatch's aesthetics, especially if we're using official art or something similar for the canon characters. OCs would differentiate too much with Canon; it's like using anime art in one CS and then using hyper-realistic art in another.

Having real photos, like the one in the Reinhardt CS, makes it much easier to keep things uniform without going to such great lengths. I care about both the quality of the writing and the quality of the roleplay's aesthetics. Just look for someone that has similar features to the characters - it makes it much easier to match OCs with canon that way.

”Lyall,” the Shieldwolf

- Leigh Tessa Wynne -

Chronological age: 66 (How long she’s lived)
Biological age: 34 (How aged her body is)

HISTORY
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Born to parents Antionio and Adona Wynne, Leigh grew up in a somewhat distant, but loving household, raised primarily by a tutor/nanny. Both her parents worked with something security related- her mother being an employee of Italy’s Lockheed Martin division, and her father being a security consultant after serving a decade in the Italian elite infantry division, the Arditi, having fought in a few wars of his own.

Immediately after high school, Leigh went into the one place to serve the two traits that both of her parents had made sure to instill in her- duty, and honor. Having signed up for the Italian army, she shouldered her way through any obstacle. Because of her father’s connections, Leigh found herself being recruited for the Arditi training process- and was welcomed into the elite branch shortly thereafter.

Her career in the Arditi mainly consisted of covert ops, such as the [REDACTED] operation, and many other similar jobs. Some of them required infiltration of various neighbors such as [REDACTED], to [----------REDACTED----------]. Commanding officers gave only praise for the young recruit that had the drive and determination to do anything.

Only a few years after joining the Italian military, she applied for enlistment into NATO. The enlistment process was quick and easy for Leigh- her commanding officer sent a letter of recommendation, and two generals- one from the Arditi, another from NATO- worked together to put together a unit from the Arditi to transfer to NATO. The reason of this was clear- the Italian government wanted to make it clear they were devoting resources to the rising conflicts, those that were being called an Omnic Crisis.

Leigh Wynne was assigned a different route from those she transferred with. After completing the enlistment process to NATO, she was set to be trained under one of NATO’s premium instructors, and the two of them went on to train thousands of incoming NATO troops to deploy all across the world to fight the Omnic Crisis. Leigh, in some emergency situations, saw action from time to time, some of it because of omnic attacks on the NATO base she was stationed at.

Leigh spent two years serving in this capacity, before being promoted to Sergeant, to train larger groups, and continued on as such. She spent much of her time focused on making herself, and her trainees, as best as they could possibly be. Despite being so young- in her twenties- she scared the living hell out of as many people as she could.

Five years passed, and she spent most of it training members freshly recruited from being a civilian, to transfers from other nations’ militaries. The goal was clear- train them to fight as NATO. They were to discard their former alliances, and become a global peacekeeper.

Leigh Wynne never personally fought in the Omnic Wars- instead, she trained and sent out thousands of recruits over the years to fight in her stead.

After the Omnic Crisis, Leigh’s role switched from the organization’s best instructor, to Head of Security at an important, classified NATO facility located near Milan, Italy, accompanied by a promotion to Sergeant Major.

Shortly after the catastrophe with the Zurich headquarters, a Talon terrorist attack hit the NATO base and made off with whatever was inside- while the base was still stunned from the giant attack on the most successful global peacekeeping strike organization’s headquarters.

Two Talon agents ambushed Leigh while she was on an inspection of the base, in the lower levels around one of the classified labs, and very nearly killed her. When they slammed her into a wall, a pipe jutting out slammed into the base of her neck. Vertebrae discs C7, T1, and T2 were shattered, and the spinal cord was damaged. Paralysis occured, and the Talon agents left her helpless on the ground.

Sergeant Major Leigh Wynne was found by cleanup crews after the Milan base terrorist attack, having been protected from the majority of the fight by her position underground, five days later, barely alive.

Two days were spent nursing her health back, and another passed with intensive surgery. Eventually, the doctors gave up, and then came in the alternative- Doctor Angela Ziegler’s medical nanites. Leigh never remembered much about that time period, but a surgeon had later remarked that she had to push, hard, for NATO to allow nanites, which were still experimental and untested, relatively, to be used on a live subject in need of major medical care.

Another round of surgeries, coupled with Dr. Ziegler’s technology, initiated. The same surgeon briefed her on the modifications made to save her life, afterwards: titanium discs replaced every single vertebrae from the middle of her neck, to the small of her back. Throughout it, the spinal cord had to be augmented with various tiny surgeries installing small electronics to restore feeling to her limbs. In order to keep her body from rejecting the electronics, however- which it did- a constant flow of nanites has to run trhough her spinal cord. The “dura mater” of the spinal cord, which keeps the vertebrae floating in spinal fluid, had to be refilled with a thick solution filled with nanites. The nanites constantly repair and knit together the titanium, augments, and spinal cord, and keep her functioning.

Simply put: Half her spinal cord was replaced with titanium, and her spinal cord was augmented to be usable again. The spinal fluids were replaced with nanites, which keeps it all safe and working.

To keep the steady flow of nanites, the titanium discs were modified further to jut out her back farther, and have a port that could connect to an external source. The external source would provide the resupply. A secondary protective spine- something that attaches to five of the ports along her back- that lays on the surface of her skin was constructed (think of the health bar in Dead Space).

The augments took away one of her sources of pride- that she was baseline human, that she could fight just as hard as anyone, even one of those fancy supersoldiers. Anyone could become strong, that it could be trained, bred, not made in a test tube or factory.

She did one thing before retiring, with a full NATO retirement package- visited each and every one of those surgeons that spent so long trying to save her.

After that, she went underground, hiding away from the spotlight that occasionally found her, and dragged her, her past, and her augment into the light of day.

Satisfied with herself, she went back to living a quiet life. Over the years, a nagging suspicion became official, to her- the nanites that her body ran off of were infiltrating her entire system. Healing was far faster, she recovered from just about anything unnaturally fast, and never fell sick. The nanites that she was kept supplied by NATO were taking over.

Twenty years later, she put two fingers to her neck, and felt no pulse. She did the same to her wrist; no pulse. The augmentations to save her life finally took it, and replaced it with an artificial one: Leigh relied entirely on nanites to survive, now. She looked almost exactly the same as she did when she first received the augments- if not slightly healthier.

(Go take another look at Mercy. She has a massive amount of nanites in her own system, and heals very quickly over time, without external assistance. She’s aged extremely little, and even has an emote where she checks her own pulse, and shrugs as if she feels nothing. In-game, she asks Mei about how she looks so young- Cryostasis. When Mei asks Mercy about how she looks so young, she doesn’t answer. When you have the devil or imp skin equipped and use her ultimate, she says “Heroes never die- for a price.” Mayhaps that price is their humanity? Reaper’s halfway immortal, and is constantly reforming, because the resurrection wasn’t perfected.)

PERSONALITY
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Leigh Wynne is bound by honor, duty, and strength. She believes that everyone has a purpose, and hers is to do her best to enforce the world’s laws to ensure peace. After a personal crisis following the destruction of her greatest role model- Overwatch- she went into seclusion, but nonetheless retains her sense of justice- helping those on the streets when she can, pulling bullies off children, etc.

She serves her beliefs- if she believes that being as straightforward as possible is the best course of action to get a mission completed, she’ll be straightforward. If she has to lie, she will. That being said, she does hate lying, and will attempt to be as honest as possible- but duty first.

COMBAT ROLE

+ Each hit target shows up to all allies for 15 seconds
+ Each hit target receives 15% more damage

- Passive: Slowly regenerates, all the time.
- Passive: Arditi training: silent footfalls, can jump off walls, and climb up round items, corners, or anything that has enough handholds.

And this is relevant to me why? I'm not the GM or Co-GM, and I don't know where they are. You were called out for being impatient the first time, but now I'll agree - 12 days is far too long without any word.
