The Tournament of Valhalla

If there's anything you want to know, please say so. I feel I set out the rules a little harshly there, but honestly if you're not a jerk we'll probably get on fine.

I should also point out that while a number of people have stated their interest, we will continue to accept players until the first PC death.

You may not kill a character until you have had two of your previous posts for that fight become canon, so fights will not end in a single post.

I feel like the above statement can be interpreted in multiple ways, so it might be good to have a more clear and rigid combat structure laid out. The way I imagine it is as follows.

- Every fight consists of multiple rounds and is a best of five.
- Every round, both contestants write part of the battle and the other players vote which becomes canon. Since you're building up to a win, each post should probably involve your character gaining some sort of upper hand, like inflicting a minor wound on your opponent.
- If two of your posts have already been made canon, the next one wins you the match. This means you can end that post with killing or incapacitating your opponent.

Since characters will get killed while under someone's else's control, you might want to discourage people from killing their opponent in a way that would deny them any last words (i.e. decapitation). That way, the character's own player can still determine their final actions before they succumb to their injuries.

@Lalliman Yep, that's all correct. An it is probably a good idea to discourage that.

I'm assuming you don't have to go for a win after two in canon posts, though lalli' post implied the opposite. I'm guess that post was worded that way only for the assumption that someone would try to win at the first opportunity rather than that being the rule of law.

I imagine you can kill them in such a manner but only pausing to give them the last words, like Anakin versus Dooku. So the in canon post would end with them in position for certain victory that they can take after the opponents response. It would be more like an execution though.

I'm not the best at coming up with last words. Based on my character I'll submit (after work, sooner or later) she might do a congratulations of sorts for the epic battle as long as they fought fairly. For most people I imagine last words being incoherent babble and pleading, at least for civilian characters not mentally trained for death.

I'm sure you can prolong if both players agree, within reasonable limits. And, sure the execution thing works, though you'd have to be somewhat evil to have them at your mercy and still kill them, which I don't think the tournament requires.

And I suppose they don't have to say any dramatic last words, but I imagine people would want to roleplay their character's reaction to being mortally wounded.

Are you gonna use Evvie? :P

Yeah, perhaps you can wave your right to last words if desired.

I'm using Evvie. XD I'm going to alter her canon and powers somewhat for this version.

This is the best roleplay for her thanks to her personality causing difficulty winning otherwise. Not that it wouldn't cost her the win here either, but...

Evvie is kind of similar to Jormund, but oh well. There's bound to be some characters with some similar powers every now and again. I'll post Evvie anyways once I get her updated sheet made out.

Hmm...I forgot some of Evvie's nicknames.

EDIT: Posted the sheet but still need to add writing example and fix anything you need fixed.

EDIT: Due to being half dragon I imagine someone holding a grudge and racist against dragons due to them seemingly being all enemies here, or maybe a job as a dragon hunter in the past. Could be a good setup for a fight.

1) Yes, killing quickly is optional but recommended.
2) Character sheet looks good, aside from a few spelling/grammar mistakes.
3) Is Evvie pronounced "eh-vee" or "ee-vee"? I'm conflicted about which it would be.

1) I'll try to do so if it makes sense. A battle ending in as little as three posts could feel rushed to me most of the time unless they get some good content in those three posts, which is possible given the format here. I was mainly worried because in the arena a post is generally one attack, so someone could kill your battle hardened warrior in only three punches. The way this roleplay works it seems to alleviate that if the post is composed of multiple exchanges.

2) don't know if it was from the original sheet or the edits I did, which would make more sense. Or actually some of the grammar mistakes in the abilities and such could be intentional depending on what mistake because it saves words, omits periods at the end of only one sentance, etc. it wouldn't hurt for me to fix it anyways though. Could also be not capitalizing the first word of the sentance...which may or may not be on purpose as well. Mwahahahaha!

3) it's pronounced eve (as in Adam and Eve) and how you pronounce the letter v (unless you're from Great Britain and they pronounce it weird). The v is pronounced twice if you want the super accurate version but just saying ee-vee is so similar most might not notice. Some words in English are similar where we tend to make the two letters together into a single sound. For example, I think letter would be let ter. Don't know how many people actually pronounce it that way. Or maybe I'm just completely mistaken about that grammer.

This is not your average arena posting. You could quite possibly go back and forth several times in the course of a post and describe an entire battle arc from where I'm imagining it.

@ArenaSnow Yeah, that was more how I was thinking of it. One post does not have to equal one injury.

There you go. Just need to add a writing sample later. This might be the edgiest character I’ve ever made. I intend to use him as a villain/anti-hero in a story at some point, so I figured this is a good opportunity to practice writing him.

@JaceBeleren Turns out our characters are in the same profession. (I hadn’t fully read your CS until I was halfway through making mine.) The world is a big place, of course, but they might be acquainted as a result.

Watch him die in the first battle. Actually, it would be nice if we could come in with additional characters after one dies or else half the player base is out of the roleplay in the first round of conflict. If Evvie dies I could come in with my new character...Evvie Clone #97765!

I'll likely post my writing sample tomorrow.

Edit: I wonder how Markus would view Evvie. He didn't like endangering children, although Evvie is sort of between child and adult. I imagine you mean like 12 year olds, as Evvie is old enough to handle herself. He better figh fair and square or else she shall get revenge!

It wouldn't make sense for her to turn into her clone. She'd actually be a Zomcyvvie, a zombie cyborg different than Cyvvie. Now if Cyvvie died and turned into a zombie she'd be Cyzomvie the cyborg zombie dragon clone girl. Looks like someone didn't read the official lore book of Evvie-kind. Thanks to her cyborg brain attachment she remains sentient.

@ImportantNobody So what if Zomcyvvie gets bitten by a vampire? Does she become Vamzomcyvvie the vampire zombie cyborg dragon girl, or does the vampire turn into a dragon zombie vampire?

Yeah, I didn't do my homework on Evvkind in biology class. I learned about the Evvia Evvia and Evvia Automatus species, but I'm not sure on how they interact.

In all seriousness, I truly did resolve this issue in main canon in her other character sheet that says she cannot be turned into a vampire, werewolf, etc. thanks to the half dragon blood within her, but she can become a zombie, which likely happens in some zombie apocalypse alternate reality in my multiverse...that would be totally ripping off marvel zombies.

How about my third favorite species, Evvia Catgirlus! I honestly have no lore planned out for the half catgirl evvie clone other than she was created as part of experimentations with other "half animal" variations and she's one of the main ones. However, she's weaker than Cyvvie and Evvie by a lot. One half animal clone will be more powerful than the half dragon evvie, perhaps. Could be pretty cool.

Okay, I admit, I think I give Evvie way too much special treatment over my other characters but I can't help myself.

Obviously that would be Evvia felis. Get with Linnaean classification, bro. /s

But wait, if they want other half-breeds, why go human/cat instead dragon/cat? That seems more productive. Though a dragon cat would be an uncontrollable hazard. You'd have to herd them towards your enemies with laser pointers and hope they don't get distracted and burn down your own base.

The only Evvie that's more powerful than the original: Cthevvie. Half human, half Great Old One.

This is derailing into an Evvie discussion thread.
