Alvios held a hand out in front of him as the darkness surrounded himself and Jenso, and began emitting a bright light from the palm in an attempt to illuminate what was ahead of them. He was keeping his eyes on the ceiling before anything else; finding a pocket of air would be a priority over progressing, after all. Couldn't really kill much if they drowned.

Jenso smiled at Alvios as he lighted up the way. He would have done so himself with his flame powers under normal circumstances, but was unable too since they were underwater. He began to scan the ceiling along with Alvios, trying to find a pocket of air.

The cavern lit up, showing that the cave actually curved downwards, but rose back up after a little while. It wouldn't be long before the two ran out of air.

Alvios would have sighed had it not been a waste of oxygen. With the cave curving like that, it wasn't possible to see the end from here. Who knows how much longer they would have to go?

Well, it had to end somewhere, right?

Alvios did a combination of swimming, bouncing, and walking over to Jenso, grabbing him by the back of the shirt. He guess Jenso could probably do something similar, if fire worked underwater. He built up energy in his legs, the space beneath his feet glowing slightly as he kicked off the floor, shooting the both of them forwards through the cave.

Swimming was for normal people anyway.

Alvios' efforts lead the two to the end of the cavern in seconds, both men erupting from the water's surface with a splash, and landing in the small cavern, with several tunnels leading in five directions from the medium-sized dome-like room. The walls were uneven, and rough, spikes jutting out with a purplish glint. In fact, every square inch of the cavern glowed with a rainbow of pastel shades. Purple, pink, and blue, cascaded together into one massive pattern.

It was a crystal cavern.

Jenso looked around in the cavern, and smiled at Alvios. "Good move man...that was close." Jenso said to him, looking at the five tunnels. "Five paths...we can either split up or stick together. Splitting up might make us find something faster...but it'd also be more dangerous, obviously.." Jenso muttered. "I'm fine with both options, honestly...I'm sure we'll find the source eventually either way."

Alvios looked down the five paths, trying to look for any clue that one of them had something indicating which one led them to... well, wherever the Swarm nested he supposed. He wasn't really quite sure of the plan at this point. The idea was to come down here and just kill everything really. He hadn't really thought about what they might find.

"We'll split up. Walk for about ten minutes in one direction or until one of us finds something, then we'll come back here and see if we've found anything. If not, we try two more paths, same idea. If we've found something, then we'll be able to meet up back here. If we've found nothing after ten minutes in any one path, it just means we'll have to try again going deeper." Alvios drew his blade, stepping towards the entrance of one of the paths, before pausing and looking back at Jenso.

"A word of warning. The Swarm can infest people. Slowly takes over their mind, then their body. I've seen it happen before. They usually try to do it to women, and just kill men. I'm not sure why. Still, it doesn't matter who you see down here, if it isn't me, it's best you put them out of their misery." Alvios turned back towards the path he had chosen, grip tightening on his blade.

Jenso nodded at Alvios, albeit frowning when he told him that he needed to put people out of their misery if he ran into them. "Yeah...got it!" He said to him, as Pij suddenly emerged from his chest. The flame phoenix chirped happily at Alvios, and flew into one of the other four tunnels. "Let's do this!" Jenso added, and headed into yet another tunnel.

As Pij Flew off, a loud screeching was heard from all five of the tunnels. Moments later, the small, drone-like infantry monsters sped towards the entrance chamber in gratuitous numbers, latching to the floor, walls, and ceiling, and flooding 4 of the tunnels. The only tunnel they didn't flood, was the one that Pij flew down. From there, instead, zombified humanoids began to lurch forwards, taking heavy steps and they were barely able to step forward.

"Well THAT didn't take long!" Alvios bolted back towards the center chamber, throwing a crescent-shaped blade of light into the swarm behind him. "JENSO! Turn back around, I found the right--" Alvios was interrupted as he reached the center chamber again, suddenly having to fend off enemies from all sides. Well, I guess every tunnel was right...damn.

Alvios looked around quickly, first towards the tunnel that Jenso had gone down, then towards the one tunnel that didn't have Swarmlings flooding from it. The one the random bird that just flown out of Jenso's chest had gone. Because that was just a normal thing apparently. "Get back here and follow your fire...bird...thing!" he shouted, hoping Jenso wouldn't take long to group back up with him.

Jenso noticed the small monsters coming in front of him, and heard Alvios call out to him. He slammed his left heel into the ground and dashed back to the center of the room to meet up with Alvios again. "Oh yeah, her name is Pij-" Jenso muttered, and got in a combat stance, his back turned towards Alvios's back.

Where Jenso struck his foot earlier, a flame wave erupted, wide and big enough to cover the entire tunnel as it moved forwards through it. Jenso took aim at another tunnel beside him at the same time, and launched a torrent of flames into it in order to stop the creatures from coming from that side as well.

Pij flew over the heads of the zombies, and slammed her left wing into the head of one of the zombies in the center of the group. The flames would engulf the person's face, and hopefully spread out quickly towards the rest of the group. The bird didn't waste any time after doing this, and flew straight back to the center of the room. She flew back into Jenso's chest.

Two of the caverns were completely blocked off by Jenso's efforts, even if only for a few moments, but the swarmlings from the unimpeded cave, as well as the few that survived Alvios' attack from earlier, ran right past Jenso and Alvios, hopping straight into the water hole that lead back out into the ocean. They didn't seem eager to fight, or guard any of the tunnels at all. They seemed a lot more eager to head for the now unprotected city of Corona.

The zombies that proceeded forward were now in perfect view. Alvios could recognise them as some of the women who had gone missing over the past month. Sarah, Lilith, Maria... Now putrid walking monstrosities. Despite that, their clothes and skin seemed relatively unworn, despite how they were covered in water and dirt. "G..Graa..h..." They all gurgled, barely conscious, but still able to direct their eyes in the direction of the people. "H..Help.. Helpp.." They called out, begging for assistance as they crept closer.

Alvios quickly looked between the bugs and the infested, zombie women approaching them. Alvios grit his teeth with the painful decision, but he made it quickly, running towards the cave with the women and cutting through them without a second thought, pressing onward as fast as possible. "Forget the Swarmlings Jenso, follow me!"

Jenso's eyes widened as the creatures ran past them. "Where are they- No, don't tell me.." Jenso muttered, realising what was going on. He dashed after Alvios immediately. "I'm right behind you!" He called out to him, running close behind his friend, while coating his body in flames to avoid being grabbed by any of the zombies.

The women screeched in pain, falling to the ground, torn to pieces. As Jenso and Alvios ran past them, one of the women clutched to Jenso's pants and was pulled along with him for a few feet before getting shaken off, terribly quickly.

"W..Why.." She said, quietly, before losing consciousness.

Jenso and Alvios soon found themselves in a wider tunnel, further down the line. Before long, another infested group of humans blocked their path, each begging for assistance, more desperately than the last. They looked to Alvios, and Jenso, tears welling up on their eyes.

"Please, Alvios.."
"Don't.."
"Please.. Help.."

At this point, the mouth of the tunnel's exit was in view, leading into a massive room with a spiked ceiling. It was just beyond this group. What were Jenso and Alvios going to do now?

"We... We're still alive.."
"Don't.."
"Please.. Save.. Us.."

Jenso frowned as the group of infested people stood before them. "Maybe we can handle this without killing them.." Jenso said to Alvios, creating a flame whip in his hands. He threw the whip towards one of the people before him, aiming to wrap the whip around his waist. Jenso dashed around the group afterwards while still holding the whip, aiming to dash around the group in circles rapidly while trying to wrap the whip around the people at the outer ring of the group. He then clenched the palm of his left hand shut, and the whip would start getting more tighter and tighter, while the flames didn't seem to burn or hut the zombies at all. It would keep pulling tighter until the entire group was tied up succesfully, and remain strong as it would stop getting tighter to avoid crushing their bones.

Alvios slowed as he looked at Jenso subduing the former humans. His hope boarders on naivety... Alvios turned away, swinging his sword at them once, a burst of light burning away the infected women. He pressed onward through the tunnel, taking care to kill them efficiently.

"Jenso, I've seen this happen too many times before, and trust me, I've tried everything in my power to cleanse them. At this stage, they're lost. It's better to end what fragmented consciousness is suffering, and keep moving forward. These things were stealing humans, and for some reason, bringing them through this cave. They had to be bringing them to something. Perhaps to feed or protect something larger. If it's important enough, once it's in danger, the ones that left may panic and turn around to try and stop us. Which means we need to end this quickly. Let's keep moving. Alvios had said all he needed to say. It was still bothering him to do what he was doing, but he knew it had to be done.

A-Alvy...don't...

Jenso frowned as Alvios eradicated the women. He dashed after him and clenched his fists. It pained him to see Alvios do this, and he was doing his best not to complain. Jenso still had hope that these people could be saved, but he knew it would be a sensitive subject for Alvios. "I know...I know that we need to end it quickly. Let's make the swarm pay for what they've done." Jenso stated.

As the two proceeded deeper into the cavern, human wails echoed from deeper within. Louder and more pained than before, forcing an ere of despair onto Jenso and Alvios. Their path was stopped as they entered the larger room, regardless, by three massive, 8-legged creatures. They towered high above Jenso and Alvios, had 4 arms, wielding claws, and a thickly armoured carapace, coloured to match the fragmented crystalline cavern walls. All three of them stood their ground, not attacking, but instead, blocking the path into the inner areas of the cavern.
