Kali glanced towards Anela after her remark towards herself ’I suppose given who it is coming from, it should be taken as a complement’ Kali thought to herself as a small smile crept up at the edge of her lips, glad to see that despite her pride she still felt the same as Kali felt. As the eyes of the Goddess fell upon her though, Kali’s found her vision was quickly dragged back towards Cecilia as she spoke to them once more, her attention once more undivided as the Goddess continued the story of the years long since passed. As Cecilia pushed herself up from the table, her form gracefully weaving through the air as she paced in the shrine, Kali’s mind drifted back to the words both Anela and Cecilia had spoken ’To be gifted the Wisdom and Guidance of a Goddess as fair and noble as Cecilia, though I may be foolish as Anela had said I stand by that decision I made in that moment.’.

With her mind confident that she truly agreed with what she had said, her heart quickened as the Goddess gazed at them once more and spoke of the prospect of a hero’s life. To quest across the land in the name of Cecilia! Often when her mind wandered through the endless fields of possibilities, the prospect of becoming a hero had always been a favourable dream to pondered on for hours. And yet now here came the chance for that dream to become reality. Catching the Goddess’s eyes for but a moment Kali felt a tinge of heat in her cheeks, a reaction she was sure would remain for many an encounter yet. So caught up in the moment and the idea of being a hero, Kali almost missed that last word as is so gently slipped from those divine lips, Kali almost doubting if she had even heard it correctly.

’Yet? Does that mean we could become Immortal? To be with Cecilia forever?!’ Kali’s mind quickly raced with the possibilities of what such a future could hold. Quickly clamping that train of thoughts down before she lost herself in day-dreaming, she forced herself to focus back on Cecilia’s question as she was no doubt expecting an answer. ’W-well, I can’t say I’ve ever had to fight in a proper battle before…” Kali started off rather bashfully, wanting to be honest of her abilities but at the same time not wanting to come off as useless ’Nor have I had the chance to delve into the arcane arts. B-but I do have some skill with a bow and have some skill in tracking from the times I’ve been hunting.’. Pausing for a moment she thought about the best way to word her next statement ”..And I have had some experience with some sleight of hand along with inconspicuous movements out in public ”

Cecilia smiled at Kali and paused with it on her face before slowing sheathing her blades at her back. "So you are a rogue of sorts.. but prefer the bow.. I can work with this." She nodded and started toward the exit of the shrine, glancing back. "Come, we have a place to visit for you.."

~Later, after Adela had decided that it was indeed foolish to follow the Goddess..

The pair was now walking up a mountain trail as the light breeze brushed their skin, the sun high in the sky, but just barely above the peaks as the rays shined across the dirt road. It was said giants often made their camps here, but Cecilia had walked forth as if the notion made little matter to her, though she did seem slightly disappointed that Adela had back away and went her own way. Eventually they came to a large fire, the grey smoke waffling into the upper skies, indicating the presence of the large humanoids. The goddess paused and glanced back, giving Kali a reassuring smile. "You needn't worry.. I'll make sure you're protected," she said with a soft reassuring tone.

As they approached the camp, two male giants perked up and turned to watch the goddess stroll towards them, quickly jumping up and grabbing large clubs - these were not well equipped men at all, but rather nomads of sorts, though a small tribe had apparently marked this area. Behind them were entrance to ancient ruins of sorts, but they were not of the norm - no, they had stood the test of time and were built with sharp angles and dwarven steel. It was a prize and the giants meant to keep it that way, though as Cecilia drew closer, they could help but chuckle.

"Look. Tiny woman comes to us! She think she brave - steal our new home. You are silly, girl!" Though perhaps not lacking as much intelligence as rumors would have one believe, they're grammar was broken none-the-less, even though that didn't make them any less threatening. The other chimed in, sounding a bit smarter. "Yes, brother, I see. Do you really think those tiny sticks on your back will help you? Shoo! Now! Before things get nasty.." He puffed up his chest as he bellowed out, before glaring at her.

Cecilia came to a slow stop and looked them over before pursing her lips in slight irritation. "Move aside. I am not here to steal your home, but there is something in there that I am claiming." Her tone was far more confident than before at the shine, making it obvious how - perhaps - bashful the goddess had been before. Here, she held no such fears, pulling out her twin daggers slowly. The gesture was not lost on the giants however as they charged, their pride being challenged. The first giant swung his club downwards, threatening to squash Cecilia into the ground, but the goddess raised one of her daggers to block it. The other giant threw back his club as well, ready to attack, but found himself stumble in surprise.

Under the first club stood Cecilia, holding her dagger against it as if it were but a feather. Even in her current condition - only with one follower - she was in a completely different class then even giants. Truly, there was no contest. She pushed against the club and nearly sent the giant stumbling backwards before it regained it's balance. Causally so, she lowered her weapons and pointed down another path opposite of her and Kali. "I would suggest you leave us be.. lest you see what I'm truly capable of.." The smarter of the two scowled in disgust but finally nodded, grabbing his brother and pulling him away, leaving the two women to themselves.

The goddess put her weapons away and looked back to Kali, smiling softly as she gestured that it was safe. "See?" she said, "I told you it'd be safe. There is a bow in here.. that we are seeking for you.. after all, all heroes need a legendary weapon, do they not?" She smiled warmly and the shyness all the more noticeable now in face of what she could do. Cecilia was not sure if she felt this subtle attraction because Kali was someone she'd normally be interested in or because it was her that was sustaining her presence here.. but honestly, the goddess didn't care much at the moment.

Kali watched nervously as Cecilia seemed to access the two woman before her, weighing up the information they had provided. There was a moment of doubt that spread across Kali’s thoughts as she wondered if perhaps she had been underwhelming in her descriptions of her abilities. Such doubts and fears alleviated themselves as Cecilia treated the two of them to the sight of her smile once more. ’A Rogue, I suppose that is a fitting description she thought with a small grin, the smile spreading as Cecilia confirmed that she had a place for one such as Kali.

~~~
It was hours later, the familiar sights of the rolling plains and green forests had given way to the towering stone and brown dirt roads. The cold night wind had faded in strength as the first rays of the sun split over the peaks that lay above them, providing some warmth that curbed the cut of the freezing air. Glancing to her side, and to the right of Cecilia, Kali did feel a small tinge of sadness that Adela had declined the offer to join the Goddess. Though Kali mind was fond of the idea being the only one to accompany the Goddess on this journey, she knew that was a somewhat selfish desire. As she turned back, she glanced at Cecilia as she confidently strode along the path, it was often rumoured in the town that Giants made their home in these peaks and the sights of large patches of disturbed dirt seemed to lead credence to that idea.
Somewhat lost in her own thoughts, Kali barely noticed that Cecilia had stopped, and almost ran into her back. As Cecilia offered the words of confidence, Kali suddenly realized they were approaching a camp of sorts, and that if she needed to offer such assurances then there was possibly danger ahead. Though the tales of terrible giants swum with violent images in her mind, Kali could not find the will to panic, as long as she was in the presence of Cecilia she felt protected.
As the Giants noticed their presence and withdrew their own weapons, Kali stopped as Cecilia continued forward, if there was a chance of a battle occurring Kali did not wish to get in Cecilia’s way or otherwise hamper her. Despite the intimidating size and nature of the giants the Goddess was unphased by their demands, treating them as though there were but an unpleasant nuisance. Her voice rung strongly through the air, her words carrying a weight of divine authority and force of command, almost daring the giants to challenge her demand. Prideful and protective of their own territory, the giants met the challenge in what Kali believed would be an incredible battle.
But to her surprise, Cecilia easily held the first Giant’s strike as though it had no force behind it, her entire form remaining still as the dirt and ground cracked underneath her from absorbing such a heavy blow ”Unbelieveable” Kali uttered in Amazement as with a simple flick of the Goddess’s dagger hand sent the massive creature tumbling backwards against its own will, the Giants seeming to be even more surprised than Kali at the situation. Giving them a second chance, the Giants were quick to take it, their thundering footsteps quickly fading into the distance and leaving Kali and Cecilia to silence save for the crackling of the now abandoned fire.
Walking back up to Cecilia as she replaced her daggers, Kali replied to her statement “And I never had a doubt that you would keep your word” Kali spoke as a smile of her own matched Cecilia’s. As they walked forward and the purpose of this trip was explained Kali could not help but exclaim ”We’re seeking a Legendary bow for me?! Well...I suppose then this is almost a gift of sorts from you then?” Kali replied with a soft giggle at the thought. In some ways this whole situation seemed almost unreal, and the idea of a Goddess gifting her a bow of legends seemed to only add to that factor. Looking at Cecilia she could feel a tinge of heat spread across her cheeks as she replied ”And I guess that does fit the story of a hero, to be both chosen and then gifted a legendary weapon by a beautiful goddess herself.”. Despite the cool air that the mountain currents drove down the mountain path, Kali found herself filled with a strange warmth. Perhaps it was just an effect of being within the Presence of Cecilia but, Kali suspected there may have been more to it than that
"A gift?" Cecilia replied with a smirk, letting Kali continue. Thoughtful as they walked, the goddess could only smile playfully, the tinge in her own cheeks staying as she giggled a little. "Yes, well.. I have not been so complimented before.. but to think you, of all people, see me as beautiful - that is certainly flattering. I'm sure more than just a few people turn their heads to stare at you.." They both wandered into the ruins, giving way to very unnaturally kept walls of dwarven steel, copper, and chiseled stone. It had an eerie ebb and flow to it's atmosphere, seeming almost ancient and dark, but Cecilia seemed as unphased as ever and thankfully her divine aura kept Kali's own nerves at bay.
Eventually they came to a large room which the goddess stopped right before stepping inside it, looking around, adorning a more stoic expression. She took in a deep breath and slowly removed her daggers once more and looked over to Kali. Though her lips melted into a gentle smile, the seriousness of the situation never left her eyes, though it was hard to figure out why. The room itself was far too dark to really make anything out besides the copper and gold designs outlining the walls, indicating it was a very large and open room.
Lightly, Cecilia brushed her fingers against the back of Kali's hand, causing a strange sensation crawl across the woman's skin. She found herself feeling lighter, more empowered, almost as if she were waking up for the first time in her life - everything was sharper, crisper, clearer, and the dark room was now lit up through her own dark vision. At the end of the room stood a giant stone statue of sorts, but nothing like anything she had ever encountered before. It stood, motionless, but it's eyes close as if slumbering for centuries. Something in her new perception told her that the statue lived, breathed and bathed in magic. Cecilia then tensed, tightening her grip on her daggers. "Behind it is the bow.. it's arrows are made of pure magic, so you only need draw it's string.. and it's powerful. I'll distract the golem while you grab it." It was hard to imagine the stone being was enough to hold the goddess at bay, but her tone indicated that it might be.
At that moment, Cecilia darted forward with such a speed that it left the dust swirling in her wake. She was upon the golem before Kali could even breathe, but that wasn't the strangest part. The rogue found herself able to follow Ccilia with her eyes! She could tell that normally she could never read movements so fast, but she could now, as Cecilia leaped into the air and brought both daggers down. The Golem was already awake by this time, blocking the attack with it's massive arm. While the daggers clearly did far more damage than even a greatsword could hope to manage, the golem did not hesitate in grabbing Cecilia's legs and swinging her to the far wall. Her body smacked against it, causing it to crumble into a small creator. For as big as the golem was, it was unbelievably quick, having marched to the goddess in moments. This time, when the creature swung downwards, Cecilia needed to block it with both daggers. She yelled out across the room, "Kali, go!"
The atmosphere between the two of them seemed to be brimming with positive energy, Kali’s voice almost have a hint of wonder to it as her mind struggled to keep itself grounded in the reality of the situation ”Well I have been able to make heads turn when I want to, but I’d say I’d have to draw that attention to myself.” She paused for a moment as she let out a soft sigh ”It’s as though there is no true substance to those looks I suppose, it’s one thing to be desirable to someone but another entirely for them to be able to see more than just the surface of you and still find the complete picture compelling” She explained, her mind drifting back to the first interactions she had had with Cecilia and how the Goddess had seen and measured her, the way that piercing gaze of hers had no doubt seen to every corner of Kali and still judged her in such high regards.
As they continued on into the ruins, Kali eyes darted around, drawn to the strange sights of the well kept and defined walls. The outside of these ruins seemed to indicate they had been here eons ago, and the atmosphere felt as though it was choking from an untold passage of time. Yet the walls seemed to show no sign of where, either being of the most skilled level of craft or even imbued with magic. Despite the strangeness of the setting, Kali noted that Cecilia seemed to be certain of the direction she was heading, her confidence radiating out from her form and flowing into Kali.
Stopping at the entrance to the large room, Kali paused just behind and to the side of Cecilia wondering if this was the destination. As the motion of Cecilia removing her daggers caught her eyes, the surprise must have shown on her face as the Goddess offered a gentle smile. Though the shadows stretched far across the room and obscured its contents to Kali, the posture and eyes of Cecilia informed Kali that there was something hidden away in that darkness, something that, unlike the Giants from before, actually had a degree of danger linked to its existence
Kali’s attention was snapped back to her own form as she felt the divine touch of the Goddess grace her form, a subtle brushing of Cecilia’s digits as they ever so lightly danced across the back of Kali’s hand. The warmth of her touch faded as her fingers moved on, but in there placed a strange and energetic tingling remained. Almost like an electric shock, the energy spread from the initial contact point leaving Kali’s body feeling stronger and faster than it had ever felt before. Her senses seemed to heighten as well, her eyes now piercing through the shroud of shadows that covered the room and revealing a motionless statue that stood guard. And yet even with an understanding that she did not fully comprehend, it was as though Kali could see the very essence of magic that flowed in the statue, moving beneath its stone surface in a manner akin to a respitorary system.
As Kali listened to Cecilia explain the situation, she could not help but notice the change of tone in her voice, determination and serious giving it a hard edge that Kali had not yet heard before. She briefly doubted in a construct of stone could really give a Goddess such trouble but as she watched Cecilia darted into the room with inhuman speed, the Golem already reacting to the presence in its chamber with a reaction time that was just as unnatural. ”Wait a minute, I can see this! Kali exclaimed to herself as she found her eyes following Cecilia’s motions. She could tell that Cecilia was moving at speeds that were unlike anything Kali had seen before and yet somehow her eyes and mind were able to track the motions and process it, eyes then flickering to the Golem as saw it raise its own stone limb, the rock clashing with the steel of daggers in a spectacular show of force.
The impact of the strikes scattered the accumulated years of dust, a small shockwave of dirt ebbing out from the clash of power. Kali was almost mesmerized by the sight, her thoughts turning to horror as she watch the Golem seize the opportunity to counter attack as Cecilia was thrown with force strong enough to shatter the stone wall, let alone the bones and organs of an ordinary human. Yet if she was injured, Cecilia showed no signs of it as she responded to the Golems next blow, holding her own against the construct. Still mesmerized by the scene unfolding before her, Cecilia’s authoritative voice cut through Kali’s dazzled thoughts and sprung her into action. ”I know Cecilia can handle such a creation, I need to do my part and not let her down she thought as her attention turned back to where the golem had been.
With the Guardian now occupied elsewhere, the treasure it had been stationed to protect was now visible. Even in the gloom of the room, Kali could ‘see’ the magic that flowed through the bow, its elegant and intricate design hinting to its important nature. Without a second though, Kali sprinted into the room, eyes focused on the prize ahead of her. She trusted Cecilia to handle the golem, and if it should begin to threaten her she was certain Cecilia would let her know
By the time Kali had reached the bow, Cecilia was trading blows with the ancient creation. Though it seemed the goddess was enduring just fine, the golem was no push over to be sure, slamming the divine feature against the ground which cracked over and over from the force. Kali could feel the weapon almost call to her, like it was cooing warmly in her presence and as she pulled the bow string to fire, it nearly sang in approval. A magical arrow of light blue formed at her finger tips as it was drawn and as Kali released the arrow, it let out a gentle burst of pixie dust before storming towards it's target. The golem managed to dodge one of the goddess' blow just as the projectile hit it's back, causing a large gash - much like Cecilia's own daggers, though not quite to the same extreme - forcing the creature to turn it's attention to the mortal woman.
As it attempted to march toward her, Cecilia locked her daggers together and a whirlwind of light centered on the cross before a flash enveloped the goddess and she was instantly on the other side of the construct, her form back in a fighting stance. The only time Kali could not follow Cecilia's movements, but it was not hard to tell what had happened from the giant hole in the creature's chest. It whined loudly before slowly going limp, falling to the floor in a lifeless state. Taking in a deep breath, Cecilia slowly put her daggers back in place and smiled towards Kali, jogging over to her in an easy pace.
"Thank you.." The goddess took a moment to admire the bow. "A fitting weapon for such a powerful woman," she complimented, slowly folding her hands in front of her - almost seemingly servant-like, despite her station as a god. "The bow's name is Julia's Cord.. it was actually her bow, another forgotten goddess that no one prays to anymore.." Pausing in thought, she gave Kali a soft smile. "Let's find some fresh air, shall we?"
Before long, they stood outside the ruins as knelt down on the ground, folding her hands in her lap. Another thing Kali noticed was that she seemed less affected by temperature now, even though it was high noon and the mountains had thin air, she barely felt hot - let alone uncomfortable. "... I'll be honest," she said softly, looking down for a few moments before finding Kali's eyes. "There is something else I've been thinking of seeking. It's a rumor among gods... a relic, old as the world itself, that allows deities to cut the thread of faith. Meaning, one could be a god.. and not have a single follower. I'm thinking it might be something I'd like - if such a thing were real. I could help.. and not worry so much about being forgotten again.." At that, she simply shrugged, sighing softly. Cecilia actually looked unsure, perhaps even lost at what to really do or if she should bother trying.
Kali did her best to ignoring the rumbling and cracking of stone’s that echoed throughout the stone chamber behind her, the stone-work of the structure holding strong despite the intense battle that was raging. As she reached the bow, Kali could not help but marvel at its beauty for a moment. Though she had been able to gaze at it from a distance, up close the divinity of the craft was all too clear. The glowing string of the bow almost seemed to sing in approval as her hand reached out for the instrument, as though its vibrations held the final song of a long forgotten figure.
As her hand touched it, Kali felt a natural understanding of this weapon as a warm presences seemed to flow from the weapon, teaching her all that she would need to use the weapon. As the chamber was rocked from another impact, Kali quickly turned her attention back to the unfolding battle. Raising the weapon, she pulled back on the string as the singing voice of the string seemed to grow in pitch as the tension built. As her aim settled on the golem and the magical arrow formed, Kali released the arrow, its trail marked by a burst of pixie dust as the string erupted in a soft sound of delight as the tension of the string was released.
Though the magical arrow was not enough to slay the beast in one shot, it was more than enough to damage it and draw its anger. Already nocking another arrow, Kali was prepared to release her second shot before she realised Cecilia had moved in front of the golem once more. Kali surprise was evident as she watched the creature fall to the ground, whatever magic animated it no longer seemed to be held in place now that its form was ruptured. Kali’s look of surprise must not have phased Cecilia as she returned to an almost casual mood.
”Julia’s Cord..” Kali spoke softly, as Cecilia explained the nature of the weapon, wondering if perhaps the sound of the string was perhaps the only remaining record of the goddess’s voice. Kali was almost tempted to quiz Cecilia to learn more about this other forgotten Goddess, but thought better of it. She could not imagine that such a line of conversation could be a pleasing topic and with the soft smile that Cecilia had she could not bring herself to potentially spoil the mood ”Some fresh air sounds lovely, all this dust can’t be good for us” she replied, referring to the sizable dust cloud that had been summoned from the fight with the golem
Back outside of the ruins, the two of them sat down on the ground, the fire from before hand burnt away all of its wood and now lay dormant while the sun had rising above the peaks and now spread its rays across this entire area. It seemed that the effects Cecilia had gifted her with earlier were still in place as Kali could not only notice details she had missed before but found the weather to be rather, comfortable, despite knowing the sun was burning quite strongly today. These stray thoughts and ponders were brought to a halt as Cecilia broke the silence that had come over while they had rested.
Turning to face Cecilia as she spoke, she watched as the goddess raised her head and the two held each other’s gaze. Kali listened intently as Cecilia explained the relic that she was thinking about searching for. Once more, the usual look of uncertainty settled of Cecilia’s expression, her face covered with troubles that seemed so odd to see on a divine face such as hers. It was clear to Kali that the relic was of some interest to Cecilia but at the same time, perhaps the implications of having need for such a relic was a troubling concept. Indeed, a relic like that would only be needed if one was forgotten, and if one was entirely forgotten would they really wish to roam the earth. Regardless of that line of thought, Kali reached out and touch Cecilia’s hand in reassurance ”Even if you are uncertain if you would need such a relic, we could always begin our search for it while you reach your decision. But for what it is worth Cecilia, I can promise you that I will never forget you or let the memories of you be claimed by the passage of time once more.” Kali stated firmly, though she suspected that in Cecilia’s time she had no doubt heard similar pledges from her followers, Kali words held all of her conviction. If Cecilia determined this relic was what she needed, Kali would help her find it, and if she was uncertain Kali would happily stay by her side until she was decided.
The goddess drew in a soft breath as her hand was grasped, her eyes looking down once more as her gaze focused on their touching hands. Cecilia had heard such claims before and while she had no reason to disbelieve Kali, the declaration came with a flood of memories. It wasn't disloyalty that caused her followers to vanish, but instead the 'beast,' which she often blamed herself for in the first place. She grit her teeth for a moment, fighting internally with herself as one side wanted to push the mortal away in fear of hurting her, while the other side spoke of something highly unusual - a feeling of safety. Why was it that Kali's words comforted her so easily? They had never met. She didn't even remind her of Sarah and yet here she was, feeling that familiar comfort of physical touch, promising that everything would be okay.
Biting her lip then, she felt the softest of glows cross her cheeks and while she wanted to pull her hand back out of fear, she couldn't bring herself to do it. "Thank you.." she eventually said, daring to gently squeeze Kali's hand in return. ".. if we really do search for it though, we shall need you to be.." Cecilia paused, trying to search for the right words. "More prepared. Which means more practice with that bow.. in situations like the golem.. are you okay with that?" The goddess looked at Kali, curiously. "There may be many dangers ahead on this course.. assuming rumors are true.." Despite her best efforts, Cecilia still hadn't let go of the mortal's hand, but with a final push of will she finally did - letting her hand slip slowly from Kali's fingers.
As Kali touch Cecilia’s hand, there was a strangeness that took hold over the flow of time, drawing out the moment to what felt as though it was the lengths of eternity. She could feel the warmth of Cecilia’s hand as she held it, and then sensed the weight of her eyes as they bore down on Kali’s own hand. Multiple looks flashed across Cecilia’s face in that hanging moment, a full range of emotions passing through her features as Kali wondered if perhaps she had been to forward. Cecilia’s hand beneath her own noticable tensed but thankfully did not pull away. ’Perhaps I was to forward, she is a Goddess after all” Kali reminding herself, with how open and welcoming the air between the two of them had been, it was easy to forgot Cecilia’s divine stature
Kali’s heart relaxed though as the expression on Cecilia’s face finally softened as it took on a slightly reddened tone, that prolonged moment finally ending as the normal passage of time resumed. Whatever thoughts she had been wrestling with no doubt carried strong amounts of fear and pain, but Kali was glad that her presence was able to offer some comfort. As the Goddess hands slipped away, the warmth of her skin replaced with the cool mountain breeze, it was now Kali’s turn to consider her own thoughts. Her gaze settled on the ground as the implications of the Gods words spread through her hurts. ”I guess she is concerned for me. With the dangers that this path will bring I need to be certain I can face them.”.
Looking back up, Kali let her eyes meet the Goddess’s inquisitive look. Thinking for a moment longer, Kali smiled softly and smiled ’Though it may be a dangerous path this journey takes us, as long as I am with you I feel confident that I can face whatever comes across our path.” she replied firmly. Though she could not deny she was somewhat nervous, there was also a degree of excitement that bubbled through her body at the thought of adventure along with a strong desire to want to help out Cecilia. Though she was still uncertain about all of the thoughts that might trouble the goddess, if she could help at all, Kali would be glad to aid the divine being
Cecilia eyes lit up. "You sound a little like Samantha.. though she was more of a take charge sort of woman.. and didn't need me to be confident - though as people started to look up to me, so did she." Slowly she stood up and shrugged lightly. "I never did understand what people saw in me though. Sam said it was this 'undeniable light,' like I was some sort of beacon of hope for everyone.. I don't know, I just did what I thought needed to be done.." Taking a deep breath, she then smiled to Kali, giving her a thoughtful glance. "Regardless.. I am glad it is you who stuck by me thus far. I will do what I can to help you become the warrior that I see you becoming.. there's a lot you can learn from her Cord." She gestured to the bow, implying that the bow could somehow teach Kali techniques of some sort. "For now, let's find an inn.. let you rest." Biting her lips lightly, she turned to lead the way confidently.
In Lakewood, a nearby town..
Cecilia stood in front of the Lion's Den, the only inn the town had to offer, but despite it being in the late afternoon - it seemed to be bustling with activity. Though not overly crowded as one might imagine at night, there was still plenty of talk, that it's sounds floated outside the door. The goddess glanced back to Kali with a soft smile and pushed the door, walking inside the wooden building. Though Cecilia had a presence that was not easily ignored, most of the bystanders could not hope to guess 'what' she was and thus only gave her a few moments of a stare before returning to their conversations. Cecilia was glad for this, never one wanting to draw attention in her modesty, and took a seat near the corner. Though she was certainly of a darker tone than most of the patrons of the tavern, she didn't stand out as much as one might think, leading to the waitress asking her causally what they both wanted to drink - the goddess simply asked for any juice they could find.
However, before too long, a fire-hair woman had started to wander over to the pair. She smiled, though it was more of a smirk as she leaned against the back of an empty chair. "Hello ladies.." she began, winking specifically to Cecilia which spurred a blink of surprise from the goddess. "What is a beautiful thing like you doing in this small town?" The redhead wasted no time in inviting herself, sitting right next to the goddess and leaning just slightly in as she reached out to play with a single strand of the goddess' hair. The woman seemed fairly attractive herself, though she dressed more or less like a bard, a flute tied to her waist - and she was not shy.
Cecilia on the other hand, even despite her station, flushed softly and pulled back just a bit. "Um.." Her gaze went over to Kali, wandering what the archer would do, almost looking to her for aid. ".. just.. visiting.. looking for work." It would almost be cute, the way Cecilia was beginning to blush, if she didn't also look slightly uncomfortable - though she didn't seem to mind the attention either, giving Kali a few mixed signals.
The bard seemed quick on her toes and pulled back, grinning widely. "Oh? I have some work you could do for me.. we'd need to discuss it in private though.. in my room upstairs, if that's not too troubling?" She gave Cecilia a wink, laying one of her arms over the back of her own chair and gently poking Cecilia's own chair.
The faint sensation of heat spread across Kali’s cheeks as she found herself blushing slightly at the Goddess’s comment. Though it involved some assumptions, Samantha had seemed to be a very cherished person in Cecilia’s world, so to be compared so favorably with such a figure stirred a number of strange feelings within Kali, some of them very pleasant and distracting for her. Thankfully Cecilia had taken the time to stand up as she continued her story, giving Kali enough time to recompose herself before she turned her attention back towards her, their eyes meeting once more.
”And I am glad to be here with you Cecilia, if you see potential in me to become a great warrior than I have no doubts that I can” Kali replied confidentiality as her gaze swept down towards the bow. The weapon...no that word didn’t fit, it was more a divine instrument, and it still seemed to glow and pulse with that warm powers he had felt when she first touched it. Curiosity bubbled in Kali’s mind, racing with ideas of what secrets this bow could hold. The time for wondering could come later though though, as Cecilia began to lead the way towards an Inn, Kali quickly stood and fell into step behind her. She was glad to have Cecilia leading the way, as the pleasant sensations she had briefly dismissed before had began to return, and with those feelings came both thoughts that she would have been embarrassed to share and a strong blush that kept her face warm despite the cool mountain air
Their journey had taken them the better part of the day, and though their appearance had brought some wandering eyes overall it had been a pleasant walk down the mountains and through the countryside. Thankfully by the time Cecilia looked back and blessed Kali with another one of her smiles, Kali had regained control of her wild thoughts and any physical indication that they had been dominating the attention of her mind had since passed. As the door swung open, the wave of noise washed over the two new patrons. Such an environment was familiar to Kali, a number of heads turned to see the newcomers, perhaps expecting someone they knew or otherwise just ones of a curious nature. ’Just a few stares and no changes of expression, shouldn’t be any trouble for us here then Kali thought to herself, even if this Inn did seem respectable, it never hurt to make sure no one was looking at you as a mark.
Unfortunately for Kali though, there was one individual in the tavern who had marked them for interest, but not the kind that she had expected. Kali and Cecilia had only just settled in when the firey-haired woman wandered over and invited herself to the table. Kali quickly gave her a look up and down, she was a rather striking figure and a day ago Kali may have been rather stunned by her looks, her clothing showing off what she had to work with. At first Kali expect Cecilia to handle this lady expertly, no doubt a lady of her stature was familiar with flattery and the antics of those that showered one with praise, but to her surprise Cecilia seemed a little bashful as though caught off guard by the sheer forwardness of this woman’s offer.
A small tinge of jealousy shot through Kali’s mind, surprising herself that such a strong feeling was invoked from the situation. Though a part of her could understand the desire behind the woman’s antics, it did nothing to curb the flickering of anger in her thoughts at this moment. Kali interjected in a calm tone ”Oh I have no doubt that the task you have in mind would require you to enlist help to solve it, but I am afraid that my companion and I are looking to help solve more...serious issues”, her voice staying level and keeping any heat from the bubbling anger hidden. As tempting as it was to escalate the situation though, it would do little good to make an enemy so quickly. Turning in her seat slightly to face Cecilia Kali smiled at the Goddess as she added ”Of course, that is not to say you could perhaps have some other work that would require both of our skills. Perhaps once the rest of the daylight has been spent there might be time for other discussions”. Kali figured that the Bard would have a ‘hand’ on the pulse of the time and could make a very solid contact, so to fully shut down her intentions and earning her anger would be an unwise move, as tempting as line of thought was for Kali given the situation
"Hm?" The bard seemed surprised by Kali's forwardness and just smirked. ".. oh, is she claimed, then?" The redhead leaned a little back from Cecilia as she examined Kali with an almost knowing smile, while the goddess herself glanced towards her companion, but mostly kept her expression in check - excluding the obvious blush on her cheeks. "All right then - more serious matters. Sure. If you've got the coin, I'll be around later tonight. Do whatever you need to do.. but, uh.. don't waste it all on a room, eh?" The bard smiled amusingly. "Don't want to make her too sore to come down the stairs.." Without giving either of them a moment to argue about it, she had spun around and started to walk away. Though, in truth, if Kali truly wanted to stop her - she could have - her senses and reflexes were still at amazing heights.
As the bard disappeared into the crowd though, Cecilia started to bite her lip softly, seeming to stare off into thought for several moment. Clearing her throat finally and turning to Kali with a soft smile, her cheeks were none-the-less red. "So.. um.. yeah.. sorry.. I'm not really used to.. that kind of attention.. I got it sometimes as a mortal, but.. Samantha was kind of possessive - and never got it as my divine form. I never really.. came to the mortal plane before now or.. not this long anyways." Cecilia had reached up to light chew on her nails as she watched Kali for a few moment, again with the thoughtful expression. "What do you think we should do next?..." Why a goddess was asking her follower such a question would've been beyond most. However the longer Kali stayed under the effects of whatever Cecilia had put her under, the more she would begin to see the goddess for who she truly was and be less under the spell of divinity. Not to say the feeling was gone, in fact, Kali seemed more acute of it than before.
Kail
Kali gave the bard a knowing smirk but otherwise remained quiet as she spoke her piece. Though she managed to keep her expression neutral, internally she could feel heat spreading through her form as the bard’s words conjured vivid images in Kali’s mind. ‘As troubling as her company prove to be in the future, it does seem like she has a lead we could follow up on’ Kali concluded as she and the goddess watched the Bard’s form mingle and then disappear into the crowded bar, and only when she was out of sight did Kali release a sigh and relax her form.
Taking a few moments to compose herself, Kalu turned back to Cecilia and returned the soft-smile with her own. ”No need to apologise, I can understand being flustered at such forward attention. Especially if you have not experienced it before it can be quite easy to be caught off guard” Kali replied with a soft chuckle. In truth she had pulled very similar stints before when mingling with social circles of higher standing than her own. When she had performed it herself, she had always wondered how it could have been so effective, but now having witnessed it performed against her, it was easy to see why many people could become flustered and led along as one desired. ”I suppose as far as encounters like that go, the outcome was preferable. It seems as though she might even be able to give us a lead to follow, though I might need to keep an eye on her lest she try to steal you away” Kali continued, finishing with a bemused smile at the last thought - both thinking the bard would struggle at any attempts but still being somewhat possessive of Cecilia.
At Cecilia’s question of their next step, Kali leaned back in the seat and glanced across the bar as she considered their options, before finding her gaze returned to Cecilia’s face, unable to fight the desire to continue to stare at the goddess. ’I wonder if she wants me to make the decision as a form of test? Or perhaps that last encounter has her somewhat..unsettled perhaps? Kali thought to herself as she studying the Goddess with her own thoughtful expression. After a moment she replied ”Well, I’ll admit I’m somewhat new to the adventuring life but when I was travelling it was often necessary to stock up on supplies. Even with our abilities we’ll likely find some use looking through the town stores and spying for anything that might prove useful. I’m not sure what kind of work that Red-haired woman might have in mind, but since she wants to discuss it at night we’d be best booking a room for the two of us while there’s still vacancies as well. I do also admit I am curious to learn more about Julia’s Cord through practice, so if there is time it could be fun to explore the nearby terrain and perhaps take a few practice shots”
