I'm interested in this RP, but I'm a ridiculous stickler for details. I'm nearly 30 and have been into Harry Potter since I was 14, so I feel as though perhaps I might be a little anal. I don't know if I should join, as I know this is meant to be for fun, but I know a lot about the world and the ins and outs. ;A; That feeling when you know too much for your own good.
@Fxcail I personally enjoy having people like that, I like to learn. Obviously probably will get into disagreements, but I'm down to have you around. (I'm the same way with Dungeons and Dragons)
I'm working on a post right now, Slytherin pureblood with a resentment for the goody-two shoes :V
Also if this is taking place in modern times, are there any active dark mages or did most of that stuff die out with Voldemort He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named ?
Edit: Okay I've made a CS, tell me if there are any problems
Name: Vance Teufel Age: 11 Gender: Male Appearance:
House: Slytherin Wand:
As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner.
The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.
Elm with Dragonheart string,12 ½" in length, hard flexibility
The unfounded belief that only pure-bloods can produce magic from elm wands was undoubtedly started by some elm wand owner seeking to prove his own blood credentials, for I have known perfect matches of elm wands who are Muggle-borns. The truth is that elm wands prefer owners with presence, magical dexterity and a certain native dignity. Of all wand woods, elm, in my experience, produces the fewest accidents, the least foolish errors, and the most elegant charms and spells; these are sophisticated wands, capable of highly advanced magic in the right hands (which, again, makes it highly desirable to those who espouse the pure-blood philosophy).
Blood Type: Pureblood Personality: Vance is a crafty individual with a curiosity that is only matched by his spite. He is not somebody to forget if someone has crossed him but the reverse is also true, assuming that repaying them does not involve risking his own plans of course. Vance is no social butterfly but he isn't exactly the sort of person to stutter or fear interaction with others. While he still has a distaste for Muggle-borns, he is willing to get along with them if they acknowledge their 'inferiority'.
In his spare time he enjoys reading and is fond of playing the violin. History: Vance was born in East England to a wealthy pureblood family. While the family has always kept up a tolerant attitude for generations, the rise of Voldemort caused them to show their true colours, this resulted in the death of Vance's father during the Battle of Hogwarts. Fortunately his mother survived by claiming to be forced to join the Dark Lord by her husband. Vance was raised to hate those who had wronged his family, the auroras, the Order of the Phoenix and any others. After a time of consideration, Vance's mother decided Hogwarts was the best place for him to get, despite the fate of her husband in the school.
Vance's childhood was relatively unevenly, he was taught numerical skills and other essentials, how to play the violin and of his families heritage, beginning in Germany and eventually moving to England shortly after the Industrial Revolution. Pet: N/A
Name: James Brown Age: 11 Gender: Appearance: Akio stands at about 4 foot 11, His ash-blond hair falls to his shoulders in an artfully messy tangle, with bangs falling over one of his big brown eyes. He has a full-lipped mouth that seems to be made for kisses and easy smiles. Underneath the eye not hidden by his bangs is a small Mark. House: Ravenclaw Wand: Black Walnut Wood, 13 inch, Phoenix Feather Core. Blood Type: Half-Born Personality: James is a Kind guy at heart and is a normal person and does everyday things but he can get sad and could beat someone up from a hardcore rage. History: James Was born 2006 Into a Wizard Neighbor hood, His mom and dad were kind people and Let him go outside a ton turning him into a nature and weather geek. In grade school he did great and hanged out with his friends, In the meantime he learned magic by him self mostley and was really chill about being a Wizard, Later he got into hogwarts. Pet: Owl: Mr. Beeks

Thank you, I appreciate the acceptance of my exceedingly analytical RP mind. Hahaha.
I would like to know what the current time periods, lore is. Are we sticking to utmost canon, are we going with the idea that Albus has - as of 2017, just started Hogwarts?( Born in 2006, he should be roughly 11 this year.) Who is headmaster, is it Minerva? Would like to know about teachers per class etc. I actually play pretty decent Professor's if you'd care for some. I have a Potion's Master, whom happens to be a Lycanthrope. Might I play two characters, a student and a Professor? If you wouldn't mind, I have a lot of question's to set up the world around my character, to know what is a viable option as far as character creation and Student x teacher interaction. I already have a character in mind - When are we starting the RP for instance? Is it set on the first day? Will we have the joy of riding the train, and being " sorted " ?
I would also like to minutely point out, that though I do agree with a lot of the assumptions that Canary has made about someones destined house- there is a very integral key, to joining a particular house. The hat takes into account, what you want. Harry said " Not Slytherin.. " - and the hat discussed with him, told him he had potential in that house, but because Harry said " Not - " the two distinctions, being that Slytherin and Gryffindor are nearly identical.. other than small opposing ideals; he was put into Gryffindor, mainly because Harry chose to go there.
On the other side, if I am not mistaken, Draco was just repeating " Slytherin.. " - in his head, over and over, and therefore, was immediately, with barely a hover over his head, sent over to Slytherin.
I'm pretty sure that no matter your random differences, if someone desires the house, because they think it's where they belong, the hat will sort them. If nothing more, perhaps I feel- as I do with myself, having people take the sorting quiz from Pottermore, as if they were their character, and demanding that they be truly honest with answering their questions, would be important. Also, getting your Patronus early on, and having it hidden until Year 5-6 ( As I recall, the books and movie attempted to stress that though the students learned the Patronus at Yr 5, it was actually meant to be a spell for the elder students ) - would also help emphasize someones personality type.
These are all things I've been thinking of, I apologize if it's too much. If I seem too much a hassle, please let me know if you'd rather not have to deal with me, and I'll just skidaddle lol.
I saw this randomly on the front page and kind of wanted in, as I'm a big fan but wanted fun, easy going RP.
Reading through the comments, I'm unsure what's happening. @Fxcail, if you make one I'll take a look. One look at my HP RP posting history and you'll probably see I'm a bit of a lore stickler myself(though willing to be flexible to introduce new things).
So let me know what happens, it looks like there's still a fair amount of people who are pretty willing.
I'd be up for joining this new RP if this one is dead.
Also the Harry Potter series is a series any self-respecting fantasy nerd should read, roleplayer or not imo. Great book series...maybe besides the Cursed Child, that one was pretty eh...
I never had the opportunity to read them as a kid so I'm doing some catching up :) I will admit that I've been slow with it... I blame my book club :P we read approximately a book per month so it doesn't leave much room for other reading in my world.
TBQH I think I plan on keeping this modern, but I thought it would be quite interesting if - instead of " self sorting " and saying what house you are in.. I could play the sorting hat, and do a one on one pm rp with each student, and essentially incorporate that into a large post, whereby, therein allowing students to slowly become introduced to houses. We could go into the subject of knowing from the profile, what your character's personality is like, have the hat converse with you, and then ultimately make a decision " together " - about the house. Or it can be done, quickly on skype, and then put a ( as mentioned before ) together a master post, where the hat sorts all the students, after which the sorted students can begin to mingle..
I like playing the headmaster a lot, so I would take up that post, and if anyone was considering a teacher, I would look them over myself. I am a " post privately " about your characters, type of person, so if any of this is of interest to you, I can create several threads. 1 for Character lists, with hidden tabs that only the DM - aka me, would be able to see. I would like to start this aforementioned RP on the first day of school ( obviously ) so, it would make it easier for everyone to jump onto the train and talk to one another etc.
@Fxcail sounds like a pretty interesting idea, I'd be up for it I'm just not sure everyone would be willing to wait so long for that post. Also have an idea for a plot point involving my character later on in the RP that I think would be pretty interesting.
Edit: Also, perhaps having a tiered spell system so we don't have first years with no idea about charms creating a patronus? Shouldn't be too difficult to create, just look through the spells used in each year of the main series and go from there.
We could just base spell teirs on when spells were learned in the books, minus the patronus, as Harry was extraordinary for learning it while still in school.

How does this sound?
That sounds cool! We had all done the pottermore test and used that for our houses.
Also, I'm going away to Anime North this weekend so I dunno how connected i'll be to keep up with this thread.
@Fxcail How would you handle a character (if you would allow it) who has The Sight?
You mean like Professor Trelawney? Explain your definition of that?
To everyone else, I had planned on giving the owner of this thread, enough time to sort themselves out, maybe a week- but it seems she hasn't come back, so I will make graphics, and move ahead with my RP. I feel the main objective, would be to start with filling teachers rolls, in order to better balance what it is will be happening. Having teachers for 1st year classes is integral. I'm more than happy to play 2 teachers and the headmaster, as well as perhaps 1 student to help balance things out. I would almost certainly play the main antogonist as well, as I feel that every good story needs an overarching plot.
As for classes, I will gather the information needed to align peoples classes per- house, and the like :)
