The demon's head snapped to his direction. It let out a loud huff, but didn't approach. Daya put her finger over her lips, and stared at the creature. Her head was pounding now, but no where near as bad as Ethan's migraine. "It's hearing is better than a normal wolf, so shh." She whispered as quiet as she could. The demon didn't notice them.

Daya was hiding behind a thick tree, but her large body made her more noticeable than the smaller members of her team. But, luckily, her brown-and-white feathers made her look like the trees around her. Her hands started to shake, not from the weakness that burdened her, but from the adrenaline coursing through her veins.

Sebastian knew what he had to do. He couldn't harm the demon, but he didn't need to. "I'll distract, you attack." Without another word, he vanished into the growing darkness.

Ethan stifled his breath. A little more detail regarding Sebastian's plan would have been nice, but from what little he knew of the hybrid, it wouldn't be necessary. A couple minutes later, surely enough, Sebastian yelled from the other side of the demon, darting past and then yelling again.

Daya let out a screech that sounded like a barn owl's call, and jumped into the air. The demon's head was turned to look at Sebastian, so she should be able to attack- the demon turned its head to look at her, but it was too slow, as her blades were already digging into its side. It let out a loud howl, and turned to swipe at her. It's claws dug through the skin under her feathers, but they didn't go deep. She yanked her blades out of its side. Two large holes were left in its side as she jumped away, her scratch bleeding slightly. "Ethan! Attack it!" She yelled. The demon was now growling at her, ready to pounce on its target.

Staying where he was, Ethan breathed as deeply as he could. He tried to focus as much energy as possible. The air pressure dropped. The temperature plummeted. All sounds ceased except for a low whistling sound discernible only to him. Eyes closed, he pinpointed his target - the signature of the demon, magnified as its magic leaked through the holes Daya's daggers had made - and made the appropriate gesture with his arms. Silently, the ground twisted up in a sharp spire and speared the demon through its neck.

The spire of rock receded. A loud whooshing sound was heard as air rushed back to its natural position. Heat didn't return, though, and nor did Ethan's health. That had all taken less than a second, but it left weaker than the demon did. Eyes still closed, he sat down.

The demon collapsed. It's glow started to fade, until its breathing stopped and the glow had disappeared. Daya stared at the corpse, her body still shaking. "That.. that wasn't so hard. One less demon in the world."

Sebastian's strength returned, though not in full. He still had a bit of a headache, and didn't feel like running anywhere anytime soon. He wanted to say something positive and encouraging, but he was honestly in shock. He'd never witnessed magic before; is that what it's like? For a moment, he was in complete fear of Ethan, the little kid who can't climb down stairs. "Uh. Wow. Um, what was that?"

Daya glanced down at Ethan, who obviously didn't seem strong enough to do anything at the moment. "Let him rest." She uttered, now looking at Sebastian. She, too, had regained her strength, and her headache began to subside.

"We're gonna have to get going soon. Animals are gonna smell my blood and come running." Daya rubbed her scratch. Though it was shallow and would only take a few days to heal, it stung like hell.

"All right." Sebastian patted Ethan's shoulder to let him know that they needed to leave, and helped him up. It was his turn to be supported by Sebastian, and together they walked back to the outpost.

Daya followed them back to the outpost. "Does that happen every time you use magic?" She questioned once Ethan started feeling better. "That really helped a lot, by the way." She added before he answered.

"Does... what happen every time?" He swallowed, and pulled out his honey. It seemed to make him feel better, though he didn't eat much. "Not everyone uses magic th- the same way I do. If you want me to explain, I can try, but it's a little complicated."

"You don't have to right now. You can rest, if you need to." Daya put her knives in their sheaths, since she just realized she was still holding them.

"Mmm'kay," he murmured, falling asleep.

Sebastian set down the demon carcass, which was much lighter than it should have been. Instead of blood, a fine blue powder fell lightly from its wounds. "What is this stuff?" he wondered, rubbing it between his fingers. It left them a light blue color, even when he tried to sweep the powder off his hands.

"When you shake it around too much, it starts to.. well, 'decompose' in a way? And it leaves that stuff behind." Daya looked down at his fingers. "You could make some great face paint with that, too. It looks cool." She said, then looked at Ethan. Dang, using magic is that tiring?

Once they got back to the outpost, Daya plopped onto the ground, rubbing her face. She dug through her bag, and took out some gauze and medicine for her small wound.

"Interesting." He ran his fingers through the demon's fur, getting tons of dust on his hand. He smeared it on his cheeks, tinting them sky blue. Considering that he was literally coating himself with the remains of a dead creature, this was mildly disconcerting, but he didn't even realize it. "How do I look?"

Daya smirked, "You look like.. fifty-percent idiot, and fifty-percent like you're about to kill someone with a spear." She rubbed her feathered hand through the fur as well, then examined the dust that was left on her hand. "Hm. It feels like.. sugar, or flour. It's weird." She rubbed it on her other hand, tinting the feathers blue.

Sebastian laughed a little. "I suppose." He tried to wipe the discoloration off his face and hands, but still a bit of color remained. He washed his hands in the stream, but it didn't work. "Um. What is this? I hope it's not dangerous."

Daya shrugged, "It's not anything bad. If it was, they would've told us. It might come off over time, I think?" She shrugged. The moon was now high in the sky as they loitered around the outpost. "Should we go soon, or wait until tomorrow?"

"I think it would be best to wait. Ethan said there might be more than one demon? 'N also, demons are more active at night." He pulled out a bag of dried fruit and began munching on a strip. "With Ethan in the state that he is, I don't really feel comfortable traveling right now. We're pretty safe where we are, I think, so let's not risk it."

"True. Since we're staying, I'm gonna go to sleep. I'm tired after all that walking." She muttered, lying down on the ground. It was surprisingly comfy, though a little cold. She grabbed one of her blankets; a thick, soft blanket made out of the fur of a large, brown animal. She didn't know what kind, though, as she bought it at a random store she went to, located a few blocks away form where she lived.

She drifted off to sleep after a few minutes. The only sound she made were soft, quiet snores.
