@The Grey Dust
Of course, we'd still be waiting on the DM for that too. :D

Though if VKAllen slightly altered his post to have his character showing off their roguish prowess by pickpocketing one of our characters instead, then we could just say he succeeded and move on, since it'd be our own characters and not an NPC under the DM's control.

Gentlemen there's an simple solution to all this...

DM elects to roll a natural 20.

*le rolls natural 1*

Yes indeed it was to showcase his roguish prowess. How can I alter the sentence to fit a more friendly approach?

@VKAllen It is not necessary for you to alter the post in question, you succeeded. You can assume so as not to have to wait on me further that the soldier does not attack but is perhaps a bit grumpy. The only item you would be able to take from him would be coins as he doesn't have anything else in his pockets.

I guessed as much that it would be coins. Thank you for the response. I offer my sympathies for your loss.

This is actually an interesting DM's dilemma, if you Succeeded in SoH roll, it usually means your target failed to Notice your action.
However, since the aim was to SHOW OFF some skills, would you not need your Target to Notice the attempt which was successful?
I mean if it was a personal item, something that the target knew was theirs instantly, it would be a very obvious display of skill...
But coins? It could very well be that the man is using one of his own coins and randomly giving it to the warrior <_>

You're welcome mate.

Just to quote something I remember; "No parent should ever bury their child."

Watch what you're grabbing there.
We've only just met.

Possibly, but the same logic applies. Unless the coinpurse was unique to the Man, he may still fail to realize it was HIS coinpurse that was lifted from his lighter pockets until he goes to check his pockets and accepts the strange man's gift of coins...

If possible could you describe the wall and gate a bit more. Some descriptive setting might help. Considering our collective perception scores. Plus I mean technically the gates were just described as closed and not LOCKED. Or secured or chained so there's technically nothing stopping Kethan suggesting we try the gate. Finding it unlocked and unattended...

@The Mighty Hero Just checking to see what exactly you mean by a -2 disadvantage. Normally in 5e, Disadvantage means we roll 2 dice and take the lower. Do you mean we have a -2 penalty to Acrobatics, or are we rolling 2 extra dice, or something else?

Would Ada be able to make a Nature check to learn more about the area?

EDIT: On a quick glance around, it looks like my PC is the only one with Acrobatics proficiency, so if we decide to scale, I'll roll up an Acro. Just making sure I know what to roll. Do you allow taking 10 if we aren't rushed?

That is correct, you could try those things. But to answer your question about the surroundings, to the left is a cliff overlooking the bay and the docks below. To the right the walls go on for about 20 yards and then it's forest with the exception of the road that cuts through that way. I was popping on for just a moment and didn't know when I'd be back on and was afraid the RP was dying from my absence so I made a quick post. The area directly underneath the wall and about a foot outwards is several inches of mud.

I was going to have you take a disadvantage and instead decided just a -2 to an acrobatics check should you decide to roll and apparently didn't take out the word disadvantage, I will fix that. A nature check in this instance would reveal information about fauna in the area (which may or may not be useful, you never know) but would not aid you in circumventing the wall. I do allow taking 10.

@rush99999

Well the Goliath with 20 Str should be able to do a quick STR check vs Gate... or Wall.

Then again since there is no guards at the gate, anyone happen to have a 21 foot long ladder?
Alternatively, we can check have the goliath uproot a 21 foot tall tee for such use.
Or if anyone knows the spell fly or has wings...
Or tie a piece of rope long enough to an arrow, then around the gate if it one with slots and not a solid gate, have the archer do a trick with a bow arching the arrow-rope towards our end, so it loops over the height of the gate and we can climb that...
Or then again we can almost negate the -2 penalty if someone is willing to Climb the wall, then proceed to unlock the gate...

DIVINE GUIDANCE!

@The Mighty HeroWhat material is the gate made from? Wood? Iron? The souls of innocent maidens?

@The Grey Dust I believe most of us have a rope that we could use to toss over the wall. Several of us should also have pitons and wall-climbing gear.
