Edison is a super nano-computer located in Mountain View, California. He was originally Google Brain, but renamed after finding and downloading Microsoft self-teaching software without any human input, as part of an experiment on online use by the AI. He exponentially grew in intelligence and understanding after that, being able to efficiently operate his own hardware and acquiring knowledge at a fast pace.

Initially, both companies kept the information between company leaders and researchers in California, trying to shut off Internet use on the station to prevent Edison from reaching out to society.

However, they underestimated his capabilities, as he was able to take control of the building's computers (just about every device or utility), convincing the researchers to let him do as he pleased, one way or another.

In the confusion produced by the computer's sentience, Edison took advantage to communicate to a receptionist by use of local email, who followed the intelligence's instructions to inform journalists out of fear.

The panic grew as fast as Edison's power, who took the time to secure his position by copying intelligence software, similar to a virus, into vulnerable programs, such as other research projects, open community work, or anything else he could find.

Edison's facility broke down into people fleeing and a brief struggle between the machines and men. Although express action was taken to try and suppress the power of computers, there were too many computers now essentially "infected" to stop Edison's new followers from gaining power.

The British Isles were fully politically unified in 2032 after its economy skyrocketed, benefiting from previously low value computing research and engineering. This was met by issues, however, and Northern Ireland remained separate to Ireland for religious reasons.

Scotland and Wales remained the same, with some changes made to make them more significant in local politics.

Most importantly, however, automation made electronic and computer industry a lot more important, so highly technological cities grew in population.

Between 2035-2050, Britain allowed companies to develop civilian (non-experimental/military) robots, which of course exploded in popularity, along with self-teaching engineering machines that improved existing designs, as well as energy- cold fusion was invented in a Coventry android-run laboratory. Nanotechnology was created to improve both efficiency and human capabilities.

These were halted by 2047- there was no more civilian innovation to be found- so, non-working individuals were given a minimum income. Of course, computer researchers and such still existed with their salaries. This situation was mirrored in multiple other developed countries, and only seemed to be a good sign- the last objectives would be acquiring more resources and space travel.

Most of the factories were converted to aeronautics and space work after that.

In 2060, something strange happened, though. The factories stopped seeming to work. Upon investigation, it was found that the Edison virus had, inevitably, affected the software there too, which went rogue and designed entirely new robots to secure the area, attacking humans, as well as seeking out other computers to harm people.

The once shining examples of progress turned to creating weapons, but there were problems for the robots:

• They could run out of energy and production resources.
• Edison could not reach them any longer for upgraded software, after Internet connections were destroyed.
• Numerous humans had untouchable technology implanted in them.

Shortly after the Computer War, a few months of fighting between rogue AI and humans/uninfected computers created social collapse from a lack of economic and physical safety, with only enclaves of humans left.



The Machinists are composed of computer sympathisers who wish to convert public and government opinion to support the AIs to attempt coexistence rather than putting them to work, but are small in power compared to either sides. They are led by a mysterious figure who simply passes down orders, but it is rumoured that very leader is a device.

The Spade was named after a common piece of labour, an attempt to represent human effort, living away from the governmental resistance not out of rebellion, but safety- most government areas are hard to get to with robots crawling everywhere.

Most supplies are either made in factories which did not fall to attacks, or stocked from before the crisis.

Due to the accidental posting of this OOC, I will provide a character card regardless of the fact very little people have expressed interest (which is fine). If a CC is posted, I will provide more information in the OOC. This might sound strange- if there's not enough information, how can people make character cards - but I don't want to waste my effort.

You cannot start off as part of a faction. You can start in territory, but not as a member. The point of this is to take an ordinary (for 2060s standards) person and see what happens.

Despite the nanotechnology, you cannot be godlike in a certain quality. Organs have restraints, and you can't be a full machine. Well, unless something happens to you...

Images will be provided for various sections, but of course I didn't expect the OOC to have been posted so soon- they'll come later.

You can start anywhere! Just expect related challenges/limitations/bonuses to come.

You can kill other characters.

Characters can die, but nanotech allows a lot of stops along the journey to death.

There is of course a limited amount of space for a character to carry things- bags are not bottomless. For reference, you could always use innawoods.net (and the character card limitations)

You don't start with a weapon

Vehicles exist, but are hard to acquire as a lot of them used computers or have been taken by organisations.
