I would say two Witchers should be the absolute max.

I wouldn't mind rolling up an ol' cat eyed killer, but can just as easily go for something else if there's a lot of competition for the roles.

EDIT: What's the word on player controlled monster characters? I know some species don't lend themselves easily to the role (fiends, necrophages, gryphons etc jump to mind), but what about the likes of Dopplers or Higher Vampires. They have the sentience required to be considered a viable character, and there is precedent of their like rubbing shoulders with a Witcher.

The OP says we could do playable creatures, there's actually quite a few monsters who are sentient. A Higher Vampire might be too OP but even a Bruxa or Alp is sentient. There's even been precedent for a sentient ghoul.

Yeah, Higher Vampires are, if we're using the games as a basis, especially the DLC. I got the impression CD Projekt Red bumped the HV threat level a touch, as Regis wasn't quite as Godlike in the books as the HV are made out to be in Blood and Wine.

Hell, even the Higher Vamps displayed in the vanilla game are pushovers compared to those in B+W.

You could play a Higher Vampire that's not so OP. Maybe because they're young or something. I am making my way through the books and they're pretty great so far.

There's actually people with ESP and/or telekinetic powers who aren't mages but they never show up in the games. That's another character option. And then you have your druids, your priests, and you man-eating witches and what not.

If we're gonna do a Witcher and his monster buddy I think I'd quite like to do a cowardly Werewolf, though would need a contrived reason for why A) The Witcher didn't just kill him and B) Why he isn't eating folk every month.

Well, we know Werewolves can have some degree of reasoning even in wolf form. A Witcher might hesitate to kill one if they think it can be saved or even more incredibly, if it hasn't killed anyone. Not all Witchers kill beasts on sight. Perhaps he isolates himself and feeds on animals.

I know in one short story a werewolf comes by Geralt and Dandelion camping and doesn't attack because he recognizes Dandelion and listens to his music.

Like MrDidact says, there's plenty of sentient monsters around for people to play as. If you want to go for a total villain and suicide on the other players, I also don't mind if you end up cycling through a few different monster CS throughout the RP. I'm not going to try set any ground rules for this at the moment, and instead just look at each CS as they come.

@Fat Boy Kyle Suffice to say I think we have enough interest to move forward. If nobody else wants to, I might be able to GM but I can't make any promises as I am running two games right now.

I'll probably wait to see what CS sheets and writing styles are like before I decide on co-gms. Just on the off chance that I say to someone "Yeah sure, you can GM!" and they then make a Naruto clone and dribble all over the IC.

As for Witcher limit, I'd be inclined to agree that two max would be a good place to start, with the potential of more being introduced later. That said, if there's already two witchers and you have an absolutely fantastic CS that you've been working on, then don't just throw it away.
