My name is Jake Bookman and I'm a journalist, and yesterday I became a hero.
Not the caped variety. There's plenty of those already. They've been around since the 40s.
My chance to become a hero was a stroke of luck. At first I thought a meteor had crashed in my backyard. I hurried out to find a large glowing red crater, with thick black smoke and white steam vapors snaking into the open night air.
I drew closer, and it was then I saw an unconscious person, so badly hurt I couldn't even make out a face. I hesitated for a moment, but then reached in, grabbing the dying person, bringing them into the house.
In the kitchen I did what I could. I'm no doctor. I just cleaned up the wounds and made the person as comfortable as I could.
It was then I saw the badge with the words "Night Legion" on it. I gasped. The Night Legion were the fiercest and most hated villain force I knew...and this person was one of them.
I knew the right thing to do was call an ambulance, they would soon tell the Day Brigade capes the villain was here...but I just didn't.
I sat nursing the body for hours...it was slowly healing itself at an alarming rate.
