Hello! I'm looking for a small/medium and committed group of individuals to either join or create. (Maybe 5-7 individuals?)

A little bit about me - I'm 23 and I'm currently in graduate school studying to become a therapist and working 2 jobs. So, needless to say, my time is limited. Nevertheless, I WANT to write again. In undergrad I had a second major in writing for fun so, overall, I at least have a wealth of writing experience (how "good" or "bad" it is is entirely subjective). However, since then, my creative writing life has been stagnant/non-existent.
Due to the many commitments I have in my life, I want a group of trustworthy and consistent people who I can keep in contact with outside of the website in case I forget to respond for a while (and vice versa). (I'm on my computer more than once a day and I am always on a chat program for gaming when I am on the computer to relax, so that's what I mean by that.)

As for writing, I am pretty relaxed and my rule of thumb would be to ask yourself after each post "is this something someone can reasonably respond to?" We're making a story together and sometimes that necessitates multiple lengthy paragraphs and sometimes that means 2 sentences or less during a quick dialogue back & forth scene. Therefore, my only expectation is that the post be RESPOND-ABLE.
EDIT: I feel the need to add, I DO like detail and depth to posts, so my standards are bit higher than one-liners and speed posting. I just don't like unnecessary wordage.

I have a lot of interests for roleplay but mostly I just want to go on an original adventure (I prefer fantasy and fiction but I am open to more realistic). I'm just looking for some roleplay to participate in that piques my interest.
If we create group we can all brainstorm a setting/plot/theme/etc. and see about going from there or if someone already has those things, I'd love to hop on board!

Oh and I feel the need to note, I am willing to participate in a RP with darker/adult themes but I don't write smut.

I look forward to adventuring with you!

@Blue2 Sure! Here are some questions (anyone can answer) and whoever wants to join can collaboratively work on the brainstorming/whatever process! Only answer what you want/value!

- What are some interesting ideas or themes you've played with in the past?
- Are there any RP cliches that you've really enjoyed?
- What about RP cliches that you've hated?
- Do "we" want to have one person control storyline twists and turns or have a group of adventurers who decide what to do together/based on the environment we construct for one another?
- Should the world be entirely original? Based on something? Or based on the real world (like a fantasy taking place in a specific part of the world at a specific time)?
- Any elements you love to have in your roleplays? (Magic, specific fantasy species, etc.)
- Is there anything else I should ask?

As for my own answers:
- Romance is fun, I love character development... if I think of anything else I'll add it.
- Back when I used to RP a lot (many years ago) I really enjoyed school roleplays, "gifted" individuals, and arranged marriage (although I wonder how I would feel about them now).
- I kind of want a group of adventurers who collaboratively decide on the "next step" my fear with this is a stagnation so we would need a really diverse group of characters who all have different goals/desires that are pulling them in different directions. Also we would need pre-determined things to happen in the world or people to play characters whose goals don't align.
- I honestly don't know how I want to make the world - I love original worlds but they are a lot of work. We COULD start small and design a town or a region and grow as the RP grows.
- I DO enjoy magic... but we'd need some specific rules to make it not OP.

I'll try to answer your questions

-In the past I've been involved in some long-term 1x1 midieval fantasy settings, with humans, demons and practically anything we could come up with so I'm familiar with that. We built the world from scratch, just as we went and it was really fun. But I also think it could be interesting to have more of a modern-day setting (I was a huge fan of Charmed, a little less of the teenage shows like vampire diaries, but I could work with that kind of world too. I dislike them for the teenage part, the fantasy part is fine)

-I did the 'gifted school' thing too, but those usually died out rather quickly because everybody was all about themselves. I don't really like playing with all teenage characters. I prefer them to be 18+, or better 20+ so they have actually develloped some character and can react reasonable instead of hormonal.

-I really like magic, but agree with you that a good set of ground rules are important. I'd rather not have every character be a half-breed, but I can work with a few of them. I'm not fond of half-breed elves, though. It's a cliché I don't often like the way they turned out.

-I like a group growing closer together through their adventures. Romance is fine with me, so long as it doesn't exclude the other players as you're going for a small group. With groups on an adventure, I worry that some are online more frequent than others which either stalls the adventure or ends up excluding some characters. We'd have to discuss how to deal with that.

-I would prefer having everybody play one (or maybe two) character(s) and the GM playing all the rest.

Awesome! Sorry I ask lots of questions but thank you for answering. I used to watch Charmed when I was younger and really enjoyed that - perhaps we could mix "real world" and "fantasy" by keeping the real world as the primary setting but making up an entire region/continent/place to explore that is set apart from the rest of the world? (Alternate universe, I suppose? Just a thought!)

I'm gonna have to agree with you on the 20+ haha I'm over the teenage character phase and want developed/realistic characters more than cliches if possible!

We could stick to humans, depending on the setting. Other races can be fun but only if there's a reasoning behind them or a good backstory to explain them.

You make a REALLY good point about people being on more than others and getting ahead. We'll probably all have to figure out how to handle that when we get more people.

Any more thoughts? What about how many people you're hoping for?

Hopefully we can get some others to jump on board for the brainstorming, at least.

I don't mind the questions. It's important to know if you think alike or it's better not to start at all.

I like the real world and fantasy mix. In Charmed there were many places that don't exist in the real world, like the underworld, the amazon island Leo gets banished to by Chris, the heavenly place where the elders live, the demonic market, the astral plane. In Harry Potter there are regions which are unplottable. Muggles can't find them or draw maps of them but the magical community can.

So basically you could create a magical world within the real world or go to another dimension/plane. Alternate universe is possible too, either as a 'we got transported here and need to find our way home' (Wizard of Oz/Alice in Wonderland) or as a 'we need something and can only find it here' kind of plot.

I was playing around with the idea of a bar where only magical creatures could enter. You say 'magic' to the doorman and if he sees the magic in you he'll let you in. Both good and evil are allowed, fighting gets you kicked, but the barman there has a lot of knowledge, he's like a walking library but his info costs money (or magical currency). It's not the right setting for an adventure (I meant it as a leisure thing) but it could be a place to start the adventure or return to when the characters are stuck if you like the idea?

As for the amount of people involved I think a party of 3-5 and a GM (or a GM who also plays a character) would be fun. 6 people is already a lot if you want to keep going. For example: it's 11pm here so bedtime.

Bah, can't sleep. The group could be mercenaries or bounty hunters or other hired help for the magical community. This could give endless plot opportunities. Or they are on the run from something while trying to fix the situation. Or they are after the same thing for different reasons. Or one of the group wants/needs something and the others join in to help.

@Blue2 The magic bar idea would be a good place to start. Alternatively (or in addition) maybe it is out character motivations that gives us our adventure? Just some things to consider. I'd be interested to get a skeleton for the setting and then we could develop some characters and use them and their background/motivations to flesh out the locations and the world?

I'm always looking for more committed role players to familiarise myself with. I have a couple projects myself, but nothing I'm GMing will see the light of day for new players anytime soon. With that in mind, I wouldn't be opposed to tagging along with another group and working on a different universe on the side.

Okay! We can all start forming something and see who would like to stick around based on interests and what comes out! If you all want to answer some of the questions I asked Blue above we could start fleshing out some ideas. (Here or elsewhere.) I'm working right now and will probably going to sleep right after but the more ideas everyone gets going the more we can formulate! @tex@Yogananda@Blue2@MissCapnCrunch

As for the thread, if there is still interest, feel free to comment! I'd be open to one more person :) If not, then we have a good amount unless someone decides that they aren't as interested once we get a working idea! I'll keep the thread pretty fluid until we can get some ideas nailed down.

@Cereline

A little bit about me based on your questions:

- What are some interesting ideas or themes you've played with in the past?
I enjoy horror themes, fantasy, slice of life with a twist, anything that has something has character growth and development. Most roleplays I have been in last less than a month and you barely scratch the surface of who your character is and who you are with. I hate that, I want deeper!

- Are there any RP cliches that you've really enjoyed?
I can't think of any cliches that I've really enjoyed.
I like unexpected parties/groups though. But not SO unexpected that it makes no sense to be together.

- What about RP cliches that you've hated?
I do not like over emotional teenagers. :|

- Do "we" want to have one person control storyline twists and turns or have a group of adventurers who decide what to do together/based on the environment we construct for one another?
A little bit here, a little bit there. Maybe if the group meshes well enough we can take turns leading certain events- if we craft a single world where these type of things can happen- then I think it's possible. I'm more of a follower- so I don't mind either way.

- Should the world be entirely original? Based on something? Or based on the real world (like a fantasy taking place in a specific part of the world at a specific time)?
I would love an entirely original world but that takes a lot of time! I'm not a huge fan of fandoms so I don't like a copypasta of a world and our characters being canon or what have you- but I don't mind taking familiar worlds or places and going from there.

- Any elements you love to have in your roleplays? (Magic, specific fantasy species, etc.)
I'm a take it or leave it type of girl, I don't mind razzle dazzle and I enjoy every day life too. Either way :) I'm flexible.

- Is there anything else I should ask?
Probably time zones of people and activity levels!

- What are some interesting ideas or themes you've played with in the past?
I created once a roleplay that was based around a future psuedo utopia, essentially after a war (cliche i know) select number of the population lived within walls in the middle of basically nowhere and knew nothing but these walls (this was long before AOT) very peace loving peoples, horticulturists, scientists, etc and one day the walls are invaded by bandits/outsiders.. Basically point of the story was focused around character development, not knowing violence to having to resort to cthese elements, watching the psyches of the characters change

- Are there any RP cliches that you've really enjoyed?
Inns are fun, the schools for gifted are cool, I really enjoy traveling in groups accomplishing quests, missions .. unraveling mystery

- What about RP cliches that you've hated?
vampires, demonic type things, I don't mind them as villains but I really prefer not to be grouped together with these low vibrations

- Do "we" want to have one person control storyline twists and turns or have a group of adventurers who decide what to do together/based on the environment we construct for one another?
A bit of guidance from a GM is always good but also I like the plot to be pushed along by the characters

- Should the world be entirely original? Based on something? Or based on the real world (like a fantasy taking place in a specific part of the world at a specific time)?
Ill agree with the above, I prefer to stay away from fandom as I'm not familiar with most .. a mostly original world or drawing from specific elements/time periods is cool ..

- Any elements you love to have in your roleplays? (Magic, specific fantasy species, etc.)
teamwork

- Is there anything else I should ask?
timezones, with my current schedule (for the next 3 weeks essentially) I can commit to a specific time of day and night and then my time frees up more

A healer is always useful! I would like to play a kowledge based character, but if necessary I can play someone with active powers too.
