𝕋𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕟𝕠 𝕓𝕖𝕒𝕦𝕥𝕪 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕤𝕠𝕞𝕖 𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕟𝕘𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕤𝕤

Ever dreamed of riding care free in the clouds with nothing more than the spinning gears and precisely timed springs of your latest invention keeping you aloft? Or perhaps you've finally proven your newest scientific theory? Maybe you just like to use the amazing creations of one of the many mad scientist types throughout the city for your own selfish endeavors? Whatever the case you have somehow come to the London of long past, a place where new inventions and theories are as common as they are often disproven and forgotten.

The city itself is like a dying organism; the grime covered cobblestone streets and soot stained rooftops the very veins that connect the large sections of rot to the finely manicured upper class. Factories steadily fill the air with a thick black smog that many have come to accept as an ever present cough inducing sign of progress; those that don't turn to crime for their sham of a lively hood often wind up employed and thoroughly broken down by the very same large companies that constantly pollute the sky.

Despite all this many still flock to the infamous city for a large list of reasons-some even of the opinion that if you can somehow look past the trash filled streets flowing with commoners, the wealthy, and criminals alike lies a hidden glimmer of beauty. A beauty most never see.

The advent of technology and its acceptance in society has begun to show itself in amazing ways in the day to day lives of people; everyone seems to know atleast one of those “odd science fellows” living on their street. Unfortunately the fast paced progress of life has also carried over to crime; criminals now organizing for the first time in a way that gave them the advantage of both numbers and newfangled weaponry. Equipped with little more than matching blue uniforms and their stout clubs the scandalously corrupt Metropolitan Police force has been at a loss when it comes to dealing with gun wielding gang members-not to mention those using their own scientific creations for nefarious reasons.

The year is 1888 and this is a time where heroes are needed, are you one of them?

Hey ya'll, this as you may be able to tell is an Interest check for my Victorian Age London roleplay. The focus of the roleplay will be around the fabulous creations and scientific ideas used by the player characters. I don't want to label this as “steampunk superheroes” but that is definitely where this idea stems from. Plot wise I have a bit planned already in the form of a “Moriarty” type criminal that will wind up being the focus of the characters. I really want people to have fun when it comes to making your characters too-Steam, Electricity, Magnetism, Alchemy, Clockwork creations-anything in that vein of “old old school sci fi” is really fair game when it comes to creating a character and their inventions/the science they have/are mastering.

The rp itself will start with “A call to arms” of sorts from the queen herself, every paper in the city having printed her majesties request that all men finding themselves capable report for face to face interviews with what will be my two main characters.

I actually already have the intro written up but still need to hammer out a character sheet.

Just wanted to see if there was any interest in this first though-really intending on this to be for about two other players (3 total)

Thanks for your time in reading all this! Hope you enjoyed it, feel free to PM me any questions!

Well that's a different take on superhero RPs. Will see if I can get something figured out I guess.

As a long-time fan of Girl Genius and the spirit, if not necessarily the implementation, of Genius: the Transgression, and the genre in general...yeah, this looks pretty awesome.

@Sisyphus

I am totally fine with a character like that but he would definitley be one of a kind-as things are right now nothing as fantastical as an automaton type man are being mass produced.

I wonder, would he think himself a man?

I'm really intrigued & I'd love to apply but I'm afraid that because this is a small group I wouldn't be able to make a cs in time

I totally understand man but I honestly don't know how to remedy the situation I think I will probably just have to go first come first serve just out of fairness-but then when I say that I worry I'll just get people throwin a sheet at me in an effort to reserve a spot. Totally a catch 22 situation.... I will totally read any sheet sent my way but, like I said, I just don't know a fairer/better way to handle it than first come first serve. Im really sorry though-but I am open to your or anyone else's suggestions if they have an idea on a better way to do things.

Is there a reason NOT to do competitive applications? First-come first-serve is only really fair to people in the right time zone, anyway (me, right now) - but then you don't necessarily get the best group and might end up missing players you'd really like over players who are, as you say, quick but maybe at a cost.

If you're not under a time crunch to get the game started, you could just declare a time period, let people app throughout it, and then pick the group you want at the end.

I myself am actually fine with that and honestly prefer it for basically the exact reason you said-In my past experience though that...kinda upset people. I guess if I go ahead and make that super clear in the top post we could go that route though? Really just don't wana scare people off that would have otherwise wound up joining

That honestly seems like a good alternative because of how competitive things seem to be already

Welp, I guess that's settled then. I will go ahead and put a clear disclaimer up top to let people know about this decision. I think I will go ahead and put a three day deadline on sheet entries, unless that sounds to long? Don't wana lost momentum but I also totally understand its the holidays.

There's a certain element of unfairness either way, I guess, but I feel like that route's probably better at producing groups that'll work together and that you're happy with, so yeah, it has my vote. I could fire something off now but it wouldn't be my best, you know? And granted I probably wouldn't be voting if I didn't feel good about my chances, but a timed selection instead of first-come gives more people a better chance to put their best foot forward.

Three days sound fine. Honestly I just want to sleep before I make a sheet. :P
