Objiten is a nation where the entirety of its populated area is on one side of a large taiga, that leads to the Avishoun Table which is assumed to be the biggest plateau in the world. The plateau was once home to an ancient society that roughly 1,200 years ago suddenly died out, the reason behind this is unknown. The lore of the current avian natives states that they are the descendants of those that survived whatever horrible cataclysm befell that plateau. None of them dares expand towards the treeline because the people that walk in, who mostly consist of criminals trying to escape the law and small Objiten research parties, never return or come back in small boxes of body parts. No one knows for sure why this happens either, but if you consult local lore again it’s either a gateway to the afterlife that only the pure of heart can get through or filled with spirits and monsters that radiate from the city. Under normal circumstances staying away from the forest wouldn’t be much of a problem, but these bitter wastes are one of the last refuges for most life on earth. Over the course of 2-3 years or so, a miasma has covered the world with poison and the cold of this area has halted it. The influx of refugees, however, has taken a massive toll on the already small amount of resources the nation has.
You're currently all at a small hole in the wall inn. It's warm and full of people but the amount of silence is chilling, not to say there isn’t some noise but given the number of people you’d expect it to be louder. It's mostly filled with other refugees staring into their drinks with eyes like rusted faucets. A native server looks pityingly as she passes drinks to customers. The owner sits behind the counter and sheds a tear looking at the display and wipes it with a large stack of foreign bills. Most of the bar's seating is in the form of booths that hug the wall. A group of three tall, heavily veiled people in bamboo hats sit on the floor.
Notes:
Weapons: Firearm technology hasn’t gotten past the wild west era so you’re mostly restricted to lever action rifles and revolvers, but guns in this place are an incredibly rare and hot commodity. So everyone mostly depends on swords and bows and the like. Magic also exists but is not very well understood because there isn’t really an organized effort to catalog any of it and the number of fake magic scrolls in circulation makes the effort of learning even more difficult.
Information On the Races: There are avian people and there are fish people and there are humans for the most part. No terrestrial furries are allowed unless specifically approved.
-Fish people can both breathe air and breathe underwater they’re also really great at sensing other living things in their environment.
-Bird people are able to fly and are generally pretty agile but are also very fragile due to their hollow bones and light bodies.
-Humans are humans.
(There is going to be combat but don’t depend on that aspect of your character too much.)
