Introduction

A bit of a reboot/spiritual successor to Bluetommy’s excellent efforts on the first two games of the same name, this version of Blood Runs Over Westeros is a character-driven sandbox role-play centered around the events of the end of Queen Daenerys’s reign as ruler of Westeros. The year is 379 AC, nearly eighty years after the restoration of House Targaryen and the defeat of The Night King by the unified forces of The Iron Throne.

The longest reigning monarch to sit on the Iron Throne, Queen Daenerys I Targaryen, has served the realm faithfully; serving as a champion of the downtrodden with a plethora of reformist policies that have for better or worse effected the realm with little opposition. But that duty to the realm has come to pass as the elderly ruler has fallen ill and declared incapable. The Hand of the Queen, Vaegon Celtigar, looks to stabilize concerns given the fragile Queen has not made a declaration for who is to succeed her. A peculiarity in the state of affairs, Daenerys had consistently denied all marriages for her hand following deaths close to her during the infancy of her reign and had promised that she would elect an option when her time was near the end. A promise that has either been well-hidden or outright ignored by the small council.

Speculating that Queen Daenerys is near her end of days, lords of the realm have begun to plot. House Baratheon, descendant of Edric Baratheon, look to possibly reassert their claim for the throne based on their connection to King Robert I Baratheon as well as the loose claim that once earned him the crown. Alternatively, there are those with distant Targaryen blood in their veins just the same – the houses of Martell, Arryn, Velaryon, Hightower, and many others look to the Citadel to back up their ancestral blood connection to House Targaryen in hopes to validate their ambitions. Though there are some whom say the succession should be electoral as the Queen aspired to “break the wheel” in her youth and a small minority who perceive that the orphan Queen Daenerys brought back with her from Lys eleven years ago should be heir apparent.

Of whom will hold the Iron Throne is unclear, but one thing is for certain for the soon-to-be future. Westeros will bleed.

Ice & Fire: A Reading of the Reign of Queen Daenerys Targaryen

Queen Daenerys Targaryen was crowned on the Iron Throne by the High Septon several weeks following the routing of the mad usurper, Cersei Lannister, whom denied aid to the North when it became revealed that our greatest and most nightmarish prophecies were very true. There were many losses to the undying. Two dragons, many northern lords, and ultimately the King in the North and Lord-Commander of the Night’s Watch, Jon Snow, when he died as he made his final stand in the halls of where his kinsman and predecessor, Robb Stark, was betrayed at The Red Wedding. A fitting, albeit bittersweet end for the ambitions of the honorable and righteous. Had Cersei Lannister been a little luckier, Daenerys would’ve perished with him and with her the claim for the throne.

But she didn’t.

Those who had survived the War of the Five Kings, The Long Night, and Cersei had a long task ahead of them and Daenerys’ found herself sitting on the Throne in vociferous anxiety on all ends with some of her closest and most treasured allies buried, one dragon at her side, and a small council that insisted on holding off on her ambitions as the realm recovered. This did not please the young dragon, but Daenerys, was no fool – she knew the deep depression in the north, the financial recession at court, and addressing repairs at King’s Landing from the siege was of upmost importance. Though she would not sit on her dreams of breaking the wheel for long.

[TO BE FINISHED]

Major Events of Queen Daenerys' Reign

- 322 AC: Daenerys declares the first of her major reforms now that her small council has been adjusted and recovery has stabilized for the time being. The entire realm is declared to follow Dornish succession laws -- women inherit on the same grounds of men. She announces this at a Grand Tournament of King's Landing where all the Lord Paramounts are present.

- 336 AC: A series of lords of various positions refuse to follow Daenerys’ succession reforms. The Hand of the Queen and Master of Laws discuss ways to arbitrate these issues before things go out of hand. Their attempts to negotiate are seen as weak-handed.

- 341 AC: A very agitated Daenerys declares all those who have refused to follow her reforms to the letter as traitors to the realm. She fires the weak Monterys Velaryon as Hand of the Queen and elects Denys Tully in their place, ordering her new hand to not fail like his predecessor.

- 341 AC: Several minor lords and some significant ones rise against Daenerys. Daenerys rides Drogon to each of their keeps. The revolt is put down.

- 369 AC: The Stepstones Rebellion begins when Aegon Velaryon attempts to kidnap Queen Daenerys as she leaves Lys. His plot fails due to the intervention of an accompaniment of Ironborn ships that safeguard her to Sunspear. This leads to the Siege of Estermont and a several months long series of skirmishes before Aegon's forces are defeated at Bloodstone.

- 369 AC: Following the rebellion, Daenerys fires Aerion Velaryon after being talked down on executing him for his unproved complicit behavior towards his kinsmen, Aegon. On the same day she knights every Ironborn who saved her from certain doom and elects several replacements for her half-empty council.

- 372 AC: Daenerys names Serenei a member of House Targaryen to her Small Council, implying the child would be her heir despite not blatantly announcing it to the realm at a public event. She elects the silver-haired lyseni to the small council as an adviser to prepare her for her soon-to-be responsibilities.

- 374 AC: The Great Sept of Daenerys is finally finished after seventy years of arduous construction. It is a humbler structure due to an era of less extravagance and glorification. It is the last public appearance of the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

- 379 AC: Present

The Queensguard

Lord Commander Axel Tully, 56
Elected to the Queensguard in 344 AC

Ser Axel Tully, Lord Commander of the Queensguard. The White is a sacred brotherhood, in which only death is a member released from their vows. Of all those who serve within the Queensguard, none can say that are as loyal and devoted to the Queen as Ser Axel, only one of two surviving members of the Queensguard from before the Stepstone's Rebellion. At six-and-fifty, the aged Lord Commander still holds his own against his younger brethren and sister. To the youth; he is old fashioned, by the book, no nonsense, to those with age; Ser Axel is akin to Lord Commander Barristan Selmy and Gerold Hightower, a fearless fighter and loyal servant.

Ser Bryen Hightower, 48
Elected to the Queensguard in 350 AC

Noble and just in his ways, Ser Bryen comes from the distinguished house Hightower of Oldtown. Perhaps the most dignified swordsman in the Queensguard, he is devout in his vows to the Dragon Queen and to the Faith of the Seven. Even as a now middle aged knight his blade is still fearsomely quick. His reputation is one of utter commitment and honor, having proven himself in his twenty years of serving protecting Queen Daenerys. His feats in the Stepstones Rebellion especially earned him a great deal of praise.

Ser Andrey Yronwood, 44
Elected to the Queensguard in 369 AC

Andrey is by far the greatest swordsman House Yronwood has ever produced. His real talents lie with horse riding and cavalry combat, a skill that has allowed him to win several notable jousting tournaments in his younger years. Andrey is not regarded as the strongest warrior on the queensguard, but is known for having a merciless edge to him and being a man with less concern for honor than many of the other whitecloaks in service to Daenerys do.

Ser Orys Seaworth, 42
Elected to the Queensguard in 369 AC
Trained Warrior, Strong

On Estermont, the towering figure of Orys Seaworth stood as Lyonel Baratheon’s shield. At six foot five, he is the largest of the current members of the Queensguard and the bluntest in manners. His feats in the Stepstones Rebellion were enough for him to be appointed to the highest service a knight could earn. Still a skilled fighter, though his injuries and age are starting to catch up with him. Carles Santagar once called him a “bear of a man, in appearance and in intellect”.

Ser Carles Santagar, 37
Elected to the Queensguard in 369 AC
Formidable Fighter

When Daenerys landed on Sunspear with an Ironborn contingent speaking of Aegon’s treason, Carles Santagar was one of the first to offer his spear to the queen’s defense. He proved himself in the Stepstones and was later offered the role of Queensguard. His demeanor is often dry and sarcastic, though he is always respectful to those of higher station than he. He is one of the most formidable combatants despite him using the spear over the sword. He is Serenei Targaryen’s personal guard by order of the Queen.

Ser Jena Wylde, 31
Elected to the Queensguard in 369 AC
Skilled Warrior, Duelist

Once spoken of as a quiet girl who cared more for swords than the company of men, Jena is the youngest daughter of an aging Lord of Rain House. When Estermont was attacked she served as one of the members of the Wylde ships that Lyonel Baratheon sailed with to defeat Aegon’s raiders. A girl of only one-and-twenty, Jena proved to be one of the most competent combatants on Estermont. This would later lead to her appointment to a vacant seat on the Queensguard, an appointment that broke a budding marriage offer with another stormlander lord. She is honest and constantly challenges her Lord Commander to sparring matches to keep her skills sharp.

Ser Justin Farring, 29
Elected to the Queensguard in 369 AC
Trained Warrior

Described as a conceited man, Justin Farring is the youngest of the Queensguard and the most high strung. He often boasts that he is as skilled as Aemon the Dragonknight was described, though such boasting has been constantly dismissed by his peers. He fought against Aegon's men in the Stepstones Rebellion as a nineteen year old who craved to prove he was more than a tourney knight. Jena Wylde considers him "a loud rooster with dull claws".

A heads-up, Sunset has convinced me to post the bones of what we have so he can edit it periodically. Give us a few days, but with a “finalized” thread it should show the commitment we need to get this out there. I'll have the bulleted outline up and a sheet template within the next few hours. Thanks for your continued patience.

For any interested writers, we are currently in the process of accepting applications. The character sheet is now up, so feel free to hop on in. Any house that is not listed on the 'Roster' section of the Character Sheets page is fair game. Lastly, joining the discord is a great way to communicate with the others making applications and to get quick answers to any questions you may have.

Pinging some currently interested folks to let'cha know the character sheet is good to go.

Thank you for the tag. I'm going to have a think about the kind of characters I am wanting to make and still have to decide if I am going to do a House or not. I am tempted to make a sellsword, or perhaps a sellsword turned hedgeknight? (If that is possible.)

Also just want to ask about the character images that we will be using. Will we be using realistic art/anime (well realistic as that can be) or something more like actors?
