@Aristo Yeah, absolutely feel free to go hog wild on the military tech details. Notes would be the perfect place for that sort of thing.
Like you say, mecha are by no means realistic, but I am aiming for something more “grounded.” Like a midway between a modern tank and a gundam. Obviously with some extra liberties taken(like some using swords, or blades claws).
And hey, if you liked the first Titanfall, I cannot recommend Titanfall 2 highly enough.
I was trying to gauge how you envisioned the utilities/last stand (video game-esque abilities vs. 'grounded' hardware/tech systems). I'll play with the sheet, figure something out in the meantime. Some of the systems might be suitable to port into those sections.
Is this still accepting? And I know this is an advanced roleplay, ignore my post count as I am actually pretty experienced, I just switched over from a smaller website.
At the moment, I'm writing up a Sniper/Heavy Tank character. He relies on long range sniping, while his Mech/Titan is heavily armed so they operate on a method of one sniping, while the other heavier defensive tank draws fire.
@Rebirth It is, though you should be warned I am out of town next week and will have a delayed start until then. And this most certainly is not advanced. You are free to put in as much detail as you'd like(I mean, to a point. I'm not reading a thesis on bipedal robot mechanics from an engineering doctorate candidate, but you know), but I don't require any particular level.
Sarah is a woman in her early thirties with dark brown hair, tanned skin, and green eyes. 1.75m (69 inches) tall.
Helmet:
Weapons: Breaker Rifle - A upgrade of a tried and true classic this assault rifle uses special Breaker rounds to penetrate any armor worn by the target. Combat/Utility Data Knife - A serrated blade that can act as a survival tool, an effective anti personal weapon, and be used to store information and access computers. Viral Pistol - A standard sidearm adapted to use a special poisoned ammunition. while not as effective at penetrating armor as the Breaker Rifle it is devastating to living targets when the neuro toxins enter the blood stream. Gear: Holo Clone - A shoulder mounted projector allows Sarah to make a full scale copy of herself at any point up to 40 meter away from her current position as long as she has line of sight. This also works as a method of disguise by using the Holo projection on herself, allowing Sarah to take on the appearance of a previously scanned humanoid figure. Background:
"Tum kurtlar Kaplandan korkar" (Turkish: All wolves fear the Tiger). Motto of the Kaplan Tactical Services.
Kaplan Tactical Services (KTS) is a military and private security company subsidiary of Beyhan Resources Şti., a private engineering and construction corporation property of Hikmet Bey, one of the great Silk tycoons. KTS was created with the purpose of defending the many facilities and staff under the Beyhan Resources Şti. umbrella during the turbulent days of the Silk Revolts. In those days the Sultanate, overwhelmed by the attacks of insurrectionist tycoons, was unable to guarantee the protection of any transorbital facility. Hikmet Bey therefore personally charged former military colonel Çelik Ozalan with the creation of an elite unit to secure the continuity of Beyhan Resources Şti.'s operations. The success of KTS was so clear that by the end of the Silk Revolts, it had its size and operational capability improved to be able to offer its services to third parties. In the years since the Silk Revolts, and thanks to the contacts of Hikmet Bey, KTS has gained several security contracts with the Funduq Sultanate, including protection, defense and support operations. It has also received attack contracts, especially during the Ariadnan Commercial Conflicts and the Paradiso Offensives. The Kaplan especially stand out as expert combat engineers, specializing in sabotage and counter-sabotage techniques. The success of Kaplan Tactical Services is fundamentally due to the character granted by its bold and efficient founder, former colonel Ozalan. This veteran soldier gifted the KTS with a self-sacrificing combat spirit driven by the humanist ideals of Haqqislamite culture. The Kaplan mercenary, a Turkish word meaning "Tiger", is always expected to be as courageous as he is intelligent and uncompromising in his mission. The strict Kaplan code of behavior gives them an aura of "honorable mercenaries" that clearly distinguishes them beyond any other soldier of fortune. In KTS, recruits are not asked about their past, but are forced towards a full accord with the unit's code of honor and those who fail to meet these standards are expelled without regard. In the same way, KTS can break a contract if it discovers the operational terms, or its client's objectives, contradict its own code, even if this may cause some friction with its mother corporation, Beyhan Resources Şti. This strong esprit de corps makes the Kaplan feel superior to the majority of professional mercenaries, as well as to most regular military units. However, their operational capabilities, their technical skills and their adaptability to any situation, no matter how difficult, are true facts and qualities highly esteemed by their clients. Thanks to their professionalism as highly trusted elite troops, KTS has been so well integrated into the Qapu Khalqi's military structure that they are also known as the "Sultan's Tigers", undertaking complex operations in the Sultanate's service and forging their fame and prestige. But no matter whether they are working for a government or a private company, Kaplans are always a guarantee of success; their strict code forces them to accept no other option. Sarah joined Kaplan 3 years ago and has served with them on more than a dozen jobs, sometimes as part of a squad but most often as a independent specialist. She had her background wiped upon signing up and most of her file is redacted or blacked out. But a definite is that she has served in the Haqqislamite army and has also done time in a jail, what her sentence was however has been expunged from her records.
Titan
Name: Harb Appearance: Harb is a custom warmachine using a Anaconda pattern Titan as the base. It is a Medium class with moderate armor plating and a kinetic shield generator with weapon mounts added to the shoulders. Originally meant to be used as a shock assault unit Sarah has modified Harb to fit her needs as a long range attacker.
Class: Medium Armament: Shoulder Rail Gun Packs - These weapons are aftermarket add-ons, they alternate ammo types using internal loaders and fire solid slugs or charged explosive rounds that cannot be pre-detonated. Pile Launchers - Mounted in the forearms the pile launchers are the up close weapons used by Harb. They are meant to combat other mechs like the Anaconda by overloading their kinetic shielding with crushing mass. Auto Cannon - Handheld the auto cannon uses a looped ammo feed to provide a sealed mechanism for the weapon. it is most often loaded with depleted uranium tipped rounds and can be devastating when used on lighter Titan's and infantry. Utility: Shield Generators - Mounted just behind the core is kinetic shield generators that provide protection from ballistic and explosive weaponry. The shields only block physical weapons however and cannot defend the Titan from energy based weapons like lasers or the heat from an explosion. In an emergency Sarah can activate her Titan's Last Stand "God of Harb" which drops the kinetic shielding defenses and instead focuses them into thin focused strands that can actively cut through any physical material using intense friction. This is a dangerous use of the Shield Generators and this method of use can only be maintained for about 60 seconds before the safety measures kick in and set the generator on emergency cool down. during this time the core opens vents on the back of the Titan to cool down and runs at half power until it is stabilized. Notes: Harb has been in service with Kaplan for several years and received a memory wipe when Sarah was assigned to it. She has used the Titan for several years during her service with the Security team and bonded with the AI, she has never had Harb go through another memory wipe since she became it's pilot and trusts in Harb's ability to help her make decisions on the battlefield based off previous encounters and missions.
@Jinxlynx All looks good to me. What planet is she from? And why is she out here on Actaeon?
The titan is a little bit off form, but it’s close enough that we could just assume stylistic difference by culture.
I honestly tried to find a mech as close to the style as I could. She is a professional mercenary from a PMC so she was orginally on the planet looking to work with Alvarez but their idea using military force against a town of innocent people goes against the Kaplan code and Sarah instead offered her services to the people of McDonough's Rest. Sarah is from a planet called Bourak, which is the heart of the New Islamite culture and Silk trade.
@Thecrash20 I’m not entirely sure how many people are still joining at this point. Feel free to submit a CS, though.
Here’s a sneak peak at the beginning of the story.
A harried woman was having a moment of peace in her field, tending the rows of coffee shrubs. Her crop was in tiered rows, up the hill toward one of six mouths into the cavernous mine that McDonough’s Rest was built into. The plants went all the way to the tall, electric wire fence that abutted the edge of the lush jungle. The fence kept out the worst of the predators on the planet, but was irritatingly ineffective against the arboreal herbivores, who had developed a taste for the leaves and branches of the coffee plants. A boom, and a shift in the air made her look up. There was a ship, just now arriving in the atmosphere, and moving quickly toward McDonough’s Rest. The woman looked at it with a mixture of curiosity and confusion. She switched to outrage as the ship - some basic sort of shuttle - landed on the outskirts of the field, crushing a segment of the security fence.
“Patrick!” the woman shrieked over her shoulder, back toward the sheltered supply shed, “Get the slathe-gun!” There was an indistinct response from within, but a moment later a man in dirty coveralls stepped out with a large bored, revolving rifle. He was moving with a bewildered caution toward the ship, while his wife stalked furiously ahead of him. As they approached, the ramp unfolded from the bottom hatch, revealing a wide entrance into the belly of the shuttle. A man stepped out. He had jet black, unnaturally neat hair, and a tan complexion. He was dressed in all black as well, the collar of his long jacket coming almost to his chin.
“And I suppose you’ll be paying for those crops you just ruin’d?” the woman asked in a fury.
He looked at her, a cruel laughter behind his eyes. “You suppose wrongly. As I own this land, anything planted here is mine to keep, or destroy, as I please.”
She was apoplectic. “I was born here! Ain’t know prissy space man gonna land his ship on my land, squish my crops, and then look me in the face and tell me it’s his!”
“I think you’ll find,” he began silkily as the woman crossed her arms and glared, “That my paperwork is-”
He was reaching into an interior pocket, presumably to produce said paperwork, when she interrupted him. “Patrick, shoot ‘im.”
As Patrick was bringing his slathe-gun to bear, an enormous metal arm reached out from the mouth of the shuttle, and put itself between the stranger and them. It was followed by a similarly black clad titan, which had to duck its way out of the ship’s belly.
“If that’s the way you will play this,” he said, ice creeping into his voice, “I think you’ll find my armament is every bit as orderly as my paperwork. If you would be so kind as to allow an introduction - I am Hector Federico Alvarez. And you are?” The titan had moved its hand away so that they could speak face to face, but it had a nasty looking gun trained on the both of them.
“Maggie McDonough,” she replied through clenched teeth. Other townsfolk were gathering to this side of the mine, peering from the opening, or approaching from around one side or the other. “Patrick,” Patrick said simply, holding his rifle down at his side.
“McDonough as well..?” He asked, pointing slyly between the two of them.
“Aye.”
“Well, always nice to have good company. Either by rule or law, or rule of gun, I think you’ll find this land to be every bit mine. You are in some amount of luck, however. My equipment and workforce is a few weeks behind me, so you have the fortune of a bit of a grace period. I will be returning in,” He waved his hand in front of him, producing a holographic screen that he consulted, “Sixteen standard days. You have until then to vacate the premises. When we arrive, we will use whatever Force is necessary to clear out all of… this. It has been quite the pleasure, Mrs. McDonough, Mr. McDonough. I hope I won’t see you again. Fairwell.” He turned on his heel and marched back into the shuttle. The sleek black titan seemed to look them over a moment longer before following suit as the ship’s engines began to rev.
I’m out of town now though(posting during a layover) so don’t expect frequent responses.
Since others are somewhat similar, I am changing my titan.
Name: Recluse Appearance:
Class: Medium Armament: ~Kr-133 Focused Plasma Rifle. Fires bolts of plasma at 900 rounds per minute. The plasma cartridge carries 35 bolts worth of compressed plasma matter. ~Tor Industries Arc Cannon Mk-IV. A shoulder mounted heavy gun that fires a relatively slow moving orb, which arcs high voltage electricity off of it. Utility: The Web. A line launcher that embeds heavy duty conductive lines into its targets. The lines can remain attached to Recluse, or be anchored to another object or surface. Recluse’s arc cannon, or any other electric weapon, can conduct along these lines to electrocute whatever is attached to either end. Last Stand: Venomous Bite. Recluse launches one of their lines, with a direct link to their own power source. They empty their capacitors into the conductive line, causing massive electrical damage. If launched into a network of Webs, this charge can be spread to multiple targets, or an area of effect. This leaves Recluse stunned for about three seconds, and slowed for another ten while their capacitors recharge. Notes:
6'5 and is way past his prime Burns body carries the scars of decades of war and combat. At 67 much of his body was replaced with old gen 3 cybernetics during his time in the confederacy military and the subsequent years. Burns still wears the marks of Sol Confederacy military on his clothing and armor.
Helmet:
Weapons: -He carries a LMG -The Ironhail: A heavy automatic shotgun - He carries a .45 as a side arm. Gear: Ironwall Burns can have deployed a portable combat shield to give him mobile cover during battle. Background: Born in the Martian badlands during the time of the old Sol Confederacy to some miners. Burns was orphan at a young age due to a mining accident. He soon fell in with Martian independence group in the badlands. He was soon arrested along with the rest of his group in the Martian capital New Austin in a failed uprising attempt. Sent to a maximum-security prison to await execution for rebellion. While he was in prison he received an offer of to fight for the confederacy or take his chances with the firing squad. Burns accepted the offer. At the time, the Sol confederacy was dealing with a massive insurrection and desperately need soldiers. Burns was sent to the siege squads a group of infantries that specialized in assaulting heavily fortified position. Due to the high rate of attrition in the units the Confederacy was forced to recruit prisoners. Arriving in the Varoux sector he was assign to the 8th siege infantry division. Burns fought for next few years as a normal rifleman fighting in the various sieges in the sector. Again, with the high amount of attrition Burns was selected to become a pilot and war paired with a Adalbert-class heavy assault titan called Jotunn. The pair preformed phenomenal for the remaining years. The war ended for Burns when the Sol Confederacy collapse. In the following chaos Burn left the core worlds with his titan and traveled to the frontier. Once out on the frontier he became a freelancer for the next several decades.
Titan Name: Jotunn Appearance:
Class: heavy Armament: Minigun: Jotunn carries the AS-M12 mini-gun a short barrel version of M11 mini-gun. Its role its to deal with infantry and light armored targets. As well as to provide suppressive fire to friendly units. Heavy laser cannon: The Jotunn heavy hitter is the mounted Heavy laser cannon. Used to destroy hard-points along with other titans. Utility: Active defense system: The ADS is not one but two systems working in tandem with each other. First is a electronic countermeasure system that interferes with the lock on for guided weaponry. The next system is the directional shielding. With this system the titans shield would automatically direct the shield against incoming fire. Last stand: Super charge: Jotunn funnels all its power into the mounted laser cannon firing a highly destructive beam obliterating all in its way. The amount of power the core must vent the excess heat. Notes: Its known that the Adalbert-class titan AI due to the role they have would become highly aggressive causing the Confederacy to rest the AI often.
