August 31st, 2050.

0645 HRs.

The sun was just coming over the horizon of the New Philadelphia, the city was bustling though even at this time. The city that never sleeps, that's what one may call New Philly. The streets were dirty but maintained, the asphalt from before was paved over with something plastic and metallic. It always seemed to shine in the early morning, but not too much to see a reflection. To most it was just a retrofitted fix for a dying side street or main road, not that they were used much anymore since shacks and shanties crowded most of the major areas. It sucks living in the poor district but most can't handle it, unless you are military, a corp or government you may see a different side of life.

Thugs usually walk around, all the time. Pickpockets, muggers, there isn't enough guards or police to stop them. Philly's downfall could be it's crime and corruption but nobody really minds it now that a bigger fish is in the sea - literally. A fleet of naval ships, who they are and their purpose is unknown but they threaten New American. An unofficial poll shows 99% of New Phillyians are united against this threat, it's with this unity as a historic city in the new world that New Americans will survive this shit show. With or without help, New Philly will survive. It's understandable why most are pessimistic about this new expedition, the one that is heading out west. The last one never came back, no one wants to help.

Welcome to the new world.

Meanwhile in the hub of the city, where the General Barracks are the military planners and logistics soldiers are getting ready for the arrival of the new expedition in a few hours. Preparing vehicles, as well as plans and gear for the new volunteers - or fresh meat as the ghouls say. Something sinister is on everyone's minds, the fog isn't a thick and it's concerning and with the state of affairs in New Philly as is it seems unsafe to leave at nine o'clock.

But we don't make the rules, do we?

Character Name: Grace Hudson

Location: Walking towards the General Barracks
Interacting With: Anybody willing to listen

Grace walked up towards the Barracks, a woman her age normally isn't seen towards a barracks at least not for the reasons she's walking towards it. She's late and she knows it, feeling kinda awkward as she packed light. As she enters she hopes her looks will put a smile on someone. "Uh, hello everybody. I'm Grace Hudson, I just got here ready to volunteer." She immediately blushes, sighs and turns. Well don't I sound like a wanton woman from one of my trashy romance novels. She thinks. She walks out of the barracks and tries to introduce herself yet again.

"I'm Grace Hudson and I'm ready to serve my dear." She says. She pauses and taps someone on a shoulder. "Excuse me my dear sir, did I sound too matronly for someone like me?" She asks. Anybody seeing her do this has realized while she's a pretty face that has some skills, it's not in the combat scenario, on the field or inspiring people. That or just a woman that is obsessed with her image.

Tara Bales

Location: Walking towards the General Barracks
Interacting With: Herself

I'm not really going to go to the barracks, that would be silly

The nicer area of New Philly might almost be confused with the cities that Tara hardly rememeber this early in the morning. People where milling about and, despite the feeling of a near security there was also a vibe of being unwanted and welcome to nearly everyone who dare cross these streets.

I'm just going for a walk. Towards the barracks

She had been up late the night before, shifting through the piles and piles of paper work and notes that had become her life. So different than what she had expected. She used to stay in the make-shift community homes of a burned out hotel, but lately it was easier for her to just stay at the research center and, if anyone cared, they didn't say anything. The research center lay on the invisible boarder between the crooks and victims and was almost universally left alone.

With...all my stuff that would be worth taking on a trip... like this one.

Hanging in her left hand was the message that had been passed around the city like a plague. Although it had existed for less than an hour, it was already more than common knowledge. A chance to cross through the fog, to areas all but lost to New Philly, save the maps that boasted of a much larger world. Like the map she kept pinned on her wall in the lab, carefully marked a larger square of 'Colorado'. A target really.

As she crossed through the gate, she let out a breath of relief. The slums weren't the most pleasant of places at the best of times and these were far from those. Tara knew many girls who went through great lengths to keep themselves unnoticed in those areas. From dressing like boys to acting like old women. Tara never bothered. Just pulled her hood up, kept her eyes forward and always ready to run.

A few quick questions towards anxious looking guards sent her in the right direction. Inside a barrack ,there was a crowd of people that seems to clash horribly with the regulation of everything else the military had to offer. There were men of varying ages and a smattering of women. Some people she was certain couldn't have been older than 10 or 11 (those people were quickly rushed away). Yet, knowing what she did about the population of New Philly, the amount who showed was pathetic, but not surprising.

"And you are?" came a sharp voice from a man in an army regulated uniform.

"Tara Bales. Researcher, she said, pulling down her hood. "I'm here to volunteer"
