Taurl was a fairly average member of the Green Bone tribe, all things considered. Born as part of a litter of six children, he found that the life of a hunter suited him. It was a fairly simple existence: he tracked, stalked, and killed woodland creatures, then brought them back into the village. He used the meat for food, and traded the furs for what few possessions he needed. Of those few items, he used just two on a regular basis: his spear, and a loincloth. While he had a couple of changes of the latter, it was the only piece of clothing he bothered to use. Everything else was either unnecessary or was deemed a hindrance to his agile style of hunting.

He was a reasonably well-regarded figure in the village, especially since he had participated in a few raids and a handful of battles. He had won no great victories, scored only a single kill against a rival goblin tribe, and only had a couple of small scars on his chest to show for it all. As a mating prospect, he was often passed over in favor of the more seasoned warriors, although he was hardly hopeless when it came to finding a female. Most of his tribesmen called him "Ty" for short, as his name, pronounced "Ty-oar-ll" was hard to pronounce. When he asked his mother about it, she told him that it was one of a few names she hadn't already given to her earlier offspring. He was from her fifth litter, after all.

Today, Ty was stalking a particularly tricky prey. Fastest of all the land animals he could hope to bring down alone, this vile creature was as wily as it was swift. More importantly, he was doing his tribe a favor by slaying the beast. It's kin had raided their food supply three times in the past month alone. Perhaps this would end their reign of terror.

"I'll get you today, damned rabbit."

"You having him working on the dirt again?" Goro asked amused as he watched the old warrior teaching his adopted human the ways of working the soil to bear the fruits of seeds.

"The boy will have a strong back because of it," Kag grunted as he watched the boy expertly swing the pickaxe into the pebbly soil. This was a task the boy had performed thousands of times over, his downward swing was already smooth and effective, the metal blade of the pick easily dug into the soil parting its hard and dry surface.

Kag was constantly making small gardens of different edible plants and seeds. It kept the goblin diet varied and it gave strength to the boy as he worked to make it so. He watched with a little pride as the boy swung over and over again, expertly shuffling down the line making a deep groove. Once the line was complete he would take a smaller pick to break down the dirt and mix it with Kag's personal fertilizer mix that includes crushed bones and the remains of fish and other animals along with the compost of rotting leaves. The mix constantly proved to be effective in its nutrition.

All of this was taught to Kag by a human and it seemed only right that the boy learn it all from him as well.

"...and just like that!" Tovo announces as he swings his prized stick like a sword twice through the air and performs a downward two handed slash before rising to a heroic stance, much to the glee and interest of the group of goblin children that watched with full attention to his story. "I defeated the ferocious wolf and saved the dried meat cache from being eaten!"

The group of goblin children errupt into cheers and praises as Tovo bows to them to revel in it. He is soon brought back to reality when he sees one of his fellow hunters impatiently waiting for him at the village gates. He takes the hint and waves goodbye to his audience while slowly walking away.
"I would love to tell another story but I have important duties to attend to. Fare well for now!"

The small crowd quickly dissipates as Tovo walks closer toward his hunting companion.
"Tovo, what nonsense are you spouting to the children? Ferocious wolves?
Defending the dried food stores? Ancestor's sake Tovo. You save a basket of dried meat from a fox once now this happens..."

Tovo only shrugs with a sheepish smile.
"I am sorry...the children wanted to hear a courageous story, not a story where I shoo away a overly curious fox. I did not want to disappoint."

Tovo's hunting companion only lets out a sigh and just turns to the gates and gestures to him to follow. Tovo is rather content with the reaction and does what is instructed of him.

Ty hid in the bushes as the white-furred rabbit carefully scanned the surrounding area. The goblin's green skin blended in well with the foliage, although he knew that the camouflage would come to nothing if he didn't stay still. As soon as the rabbit turned its head away from him, he pounced. Taurl leapt at the rabbit with his spear, leading with the tip of his weapon. The rabbit darted for cover as soon as it heard him, but it was too late. The lapine's flesh was pierced by the spear, killing it within seconds.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure to use your remains properly. You're gonna make for some fine eating. Gonna sell your fur and give your head to the shaman, too." He knew that the rabbit couldn't hear him, but it was in his nature to gloat a bit when he scored a victory. Ty picked up the rabbit and started back for the town. Under the customs of the tribe, he could keep the rabbit for himself, as he had caught it using his own effort. If he decided to give any part of the rabbit away, it would be his own choice entirely.

He made it back in under half an hour, holding aloft the white rabbit as if it was a great prize. He passed several other goblins on the way, including Tovo and Kag. For a goblin, a rabbit was not as meager a prize as it would be for a human, given the relatively large size of a rabbit compared to the smaller humanoids.

A solitary piece of firewood stood upright on the stump of a tree. With a mighty swing, Bok cut it down the middle, the two asymmetrical halves rapidly cleaved away from each other. Bok felt the axe go an inch into the much more solid stump, and he yanked it free with a grunt.

"Yep. That's a fine choppin' axe right there," He said aloud, examining the fire-axe in his hand. It would make a fine weapon, but it's place was here in the village, buried in the stumps of trees rather than the skulls of outsiders. A wooden handle and a sharp iron plate on the end, scratched, dinged and bented, but not rusted, for goblins take care of their weapons. Satisfied, he plunged the tool back into the stump with a thunk, picked up the two halves and threw them onto the small pile of firewood he had gathered ontop of a piece of cloth.

He dragged the cloth back into the main foresting area and stored the wood in a clearing where several other piles of wood lay. Others would come and gather it up for fire and fuel later. Bok spotted a pile of wood next to his and noticed it had more. Since nobody was looking, he casually picked up two pieces and chucked them onto his own stack, just to even the score a little bit. That seemed a bit more fair.

His signature club leaned up against a fallen tree in the forest, where he had hidden it while he worked so noone could steal her. She was his Basher. "Bashah, didn't mean to keep you waitin'," He cooed.

A wooden club was noble enough, of course. Narrow at the bottom, most clubs grew larger at the top for more weight, for more bone-breaking power. Basher, however, was special. The thickest part of the weapon that was farthest away from where Bok held it, a piece of bronze was welded and nailed to the lumber. A cylinder of bronze. It didn't go all the way around the top, Bok could see the very tip of Basher protruding from the bronze covering.

He swung her at the open air, imagining some human's knees shattering. "Beautiful," He said, grinning.

Hefting Basher over his shoulder, he began patrolling around the large village, glaring suspiciously into the dark forest for outsiders, foreigners and aliens lest they wish to steal or plunder.

A young goblin stood atop a thick branch as he gazed north into the distance. He could make out the outline of the village. He raises his thumb to scope the distance and nods sagely before turning to his hunting companion seated beside him.

"The village is quite far from where we are but I think we can make it if we run fast enough."

His companion only looks downwards and to see a mean looking wolf baring its fangs and staring right back at the two of them. His companion simply shakes his head.

"A wolf like this can easily out run the both of us, Tovo. Don't be foolish."

Tovo nods to affirm the statement and sits beside him before placing his prized stick to his forehead before closing his eyes as if meditating. His companion is about to reprimand him for it but Tovo holds up his free hand and silencing him.

"Don't question the lucky stick. It has saved me times before, it won't fail me now."

Olric yawned loudly as he woke up that morning. It was another day, another glorious day to what he loves and that's creating weapons and armor for his fellow goblins. He got up from his bed which was just a big pile of hay near his smithing station and put on his clothes and grabbed his hammer, pliers, and his dagger. Once he was dressed he ate a small breakfast before he left his little shack and took a few steps to his station and got to work. He heated up his forge as normal and once he was ready he grabbed some ore and started melting it down to create a new sword for some ambitious goblin hoping to be chief.

The two goblins sat on the branch for what they could assume to be, give or take, a couple hours since they were forced up that very tree by a lone wolf. Tovo still held his stick to his forehead, barely moving an inch within the two hours. While his companion simply sat beside him, returning the wolf at fault's glare with a glare of his own and hoping to the ancestors that they would be found by a large enough hunting group to fend off this wolf. He was so engrossed in his own thoughts that he failed to notice that Tovo had stood up, eyes gleaming with inspiration. He had just realized that Tovo stood only when he saw him step off the branch.

"The stick has spoken!" Tovo announced, voice swelling with joy, just before his rear collided square on the wolf's head. As the dust settled, it revealed the disoriented but happy goblin laying atop the large unconscious form of the wolf. The sudden force itself was more than enough to knock the wolf out, but the accompanying weight of the goblin made sure that the wolf would not be waking up anytime soon.

"Ancestors above, Tovo! Are you touched in the head?! What were you even thinking?!" His companion yelled at him with both concern and anger.

Tovo kissed his prized stick before he raised it up, still grasped firmly in his hand, and spoke. "The lucky stick told me that the wolf was looking at you the most and it was the perfect opportunity for a sneak attack, so I did!" He lets out a victorious laugh as he pats the unconscious wolf below him before sheathing the stick. "Now get down from there! The chief is going to be so proud of us when we bring this back to the village!"

His companion, due to the absurdity of it all or mental exhaustion or a combination of both, chose not to push the topic and made his way down to help his possibly insane companion carry the wolf back to the village.

Bok spotted movement in the forest as he patrolled around the large village. His eyes went wide, then very narrow, and he held Basher high above his head as his big eyes searched the dark forest.

"Who's there!?" He shouted into the forest, briefly attracting the attention of a few sundy goblins. Eventually, the dark shape came into view. It was two goblins carrying a...wolf?

Bok held Basher in one hand, resting the big end on the dirt.

"Tovo?" He said, looking at the wolf. He glanced at the other goblin, making a vague gesture. "...You?"

Staring at the wolf, he saw it's sides expand with breath. "It's still alive, you gibbons." He hefted his club over his head and walked over to it, preparing to smack it over the head.

"Bok! No! Not yet." Tovo says hurriedly as he lifts his free hand to stop his fellow goblin from attacking. He speaks again after seeing that he stoped Bok's attempt. "We have to bring the spoils back to the chief. Its been weeks since we got a haul this big and we ought to pay respects to the nature spirits and ancestors for this."

Taurl took the catch back to his hut. He set down his spear and picked up a stone dagger he had left on the dirt floor, and used it to behead the rabbit. The head would have to be taken to the village's temple, where the shaman would accept the offering and mount the skull on a stake outside of the temple.

On the way over, he ran into Bok and Tovo.

"Oh, hey there. Are you two going to bring an offering to the gods? I brought down a rabbit."

Tovo looks to Taurl and nods. "It seems that you grow more skilled with your spear every passing day." He lets out a good-hearted chuckle. "and yes, we were about to go deeper in the village to tell the chief of this bountiful haul but Bok wanted to kill the wolf with his club. I did not want the wolf's skull to be damaged before we could offer it so I had to stop his attempt."

He then turns to look towards Bok rather apologetically. "Bok, I am sorry for stopping you but I promise that you can kill the wolf after we show it to the chief and the shaman. I only ask you to not use your club to do it."

Goro settled for watching the human child who was right now equally as tall and as strong as any warrior goblin as he toiled away at creating his small garden square. It was a pleasure to watch the work being done, Goro was not like most goblins who had simpler thoughts, nor was he the strongest of his kind. His mind was what allowed him his position, he developed a fighting style that worked well against his lesser kin and his warrior spirit was fueled by his steadfast mind during combat with greater opponents. He inspired obedience during bloodshed and overwhelming force because he always appeared to know the answer to their current dreadful and threatening problems. He also kept in mind that he was but on kog, after all without Kag they would have long suffered seasons ago. Kag's gardens kept them well fed and allowed the community to grow without problems, this however, was a threat to all other tribes of their kind.

Kag stopped looming over his leader as Joel advanced further, he then raised a sack of seeds and began tracing the lines the boy had made filling them with a proper number of seeds at even number of spaces. They were currently planting the fourth potato garden, this was a root Kag was taught by the human that it would provide most of the nourishment their people would need. These potatoes were always their best and most popular of harvests, they could be cooked in various ways, a knowledge that Kag had passed on to other goblin cooks from the teachings of that human.

Taurl spoke to Tovo and Bok.

"You can tell the chief if you want, but I'd suggest going to the temple at some point. I was thinking of gathering some warriors together for a raid on the Rockbiter Tribe. They've been raiding our fields and hunting in our woods for too long, and we need to send them a message." Taurl explained.

"I think that the gods will bless us on this raid if we sacrifice enough to them. We've given almost enough lately to earn at least one good raid. This rabbit's head might just put it over the top. You think Goro and Olric might be interested?"

"You make a valid point. I'll head to the temple first and offer the wolf's skull." Tovo then quickly looks back to Bok "You are free to kill the wolf, just make sure that the skull is unharmed."

He then turns his head back to Taurl. "A raid against those pompous gibbons would be perfect. I'm sure the chief would agree that they crossed the line when they raided the fields and Olric could use some time out of that stuffy forge of his." Tovo pauses for a bit before speaking again. "How about Noel? You think Elder Kag would let him join us?"

The overpowering smell of pig dung made Nabi's eyes water and her nose crinkle, but she ignored the stench as she slowly crept forward on hands and knees. The tiny bug with the rainbow wings was just standing there on the edge of the little puddle in the corner of the pig pen. Nabi had never seen one so close before, and she wanted to get an even closer look, but she didn't want to spook it, so she was doing her best to be as sneaky as possible. Inch by inch, she moved closer, expecting the little bug to go fluttering away back into the air at any moment, but it remained where it was. She really got excited when she managed to close within less than two feet, and she was about to reach her hand out and try to touch the bug's pretty wings when . . .

"Nabi! What are you doing?"

The young female goblin jumped at the sound of her sister's voice, and that startled the little bug so that it took off into the sky. All Nabi could do was rest her chin in the palms of her hands as she watched the bug flutter away towards the forest. Then she shot to her feet and gave her sister a dirty look.

"I was trying to do something, Gabi."

"You were trying to avoid work . . . as usual," Gabi said, placing her hands on her hips. She then held out a shovel with the spade end all bent and chipped. "Go take this to Olric the blacksmith. He told me he would repair it if I brought it in today. And don't wander off exploring after either. There's still plenty of work to do here."

"Whatever you say." Nabi grabbed the shovel from her sister and then left the pig pen behind as she made her way down the dirt streets of the goblin village towards the blacksmith's forge. All the while, her mischievous mind wondering what she might end up doing today other than what her sister wanted her to. And when she finally reached the blacksmith's hut, she came to a stop just outside and peered in. "Hello? Olric, are you in here?"

Olric was working on making a good sword four the moment. He had been beating the iron to its prefect edge and he was singing, he found that singing helped him focus on the task at hand and get him into rhythm. He soon finished his hammering and he used his pliers to put the got steel into his drum of water to cool it. He soon heard another goblin call out to him and he said "come in mind the sparks" he warned.

He then brought the now cooled steel and hammered it on the anvil once more. When he saw who it was he smirked and said "Hey nabi how's your sister?" He asked since he of course heard of the twins since they were like night and day. When he saw the shovel he gave a nod and said "give me a moment and I'll get to work on the shovel" he said hammering out the global details on the sword before he placed it safely on a him to work on later.

Nabi made her way inside when she heard Olric call out to her. She found him hammering away at a sword when she did. Then he asked her about her sister, which prompted Nabi to just shrug her shoulders. "She's annoying as usual. In fact, she's been even more moody than normal lately. I don't know why." And when he mentioned the shovel in her hands, she said, "Oh, sure, take your time with it. I don't care. The sooner that it's ready, the sooner that Gabi is going to make me do some more work with it I'm sure. She never stops." Her eyes were fixed on the sword. "So . . . what's that for?"

He smirked as she said that she was as adoring as ever. Olric made sure the sword was secure on the hook above them before he took her shovel and went to work repairing it using copper and iron to reinforce it so it would be less likely to break again. He laughed a bit as she said the sooner he finished the sooner she would start to work with it and he said "I'll try and be extra careful then. As for the sword I'm planning to give it to the next goblin that wants to be chief. Their is always some young goblin wanting to be the big boss so I make a good sword for them" he said as if it were a normal occurrence. Of course it was normal that the headstrong goblins want to be chief all olric was doing was providing them with the tools to do so with.

Once he melted down the copper he serrated to hammer it into the shovel singing once again "goblins on the first day made camp, goblins on the second day made hay, goblins on the third day make farms, goblins on the fifth day got guards..." he kept singing onward keeping rhythm as he counted days for the goblins as he hammered

Nabi listened to him explain what the sword was for while her mind filled with images of young male goblins all wielding swords in battle with one another in a test of strength. It was exciting to think about. Much more exciting than the future that Nabi knew awaited her. She then sat down on the floor with her legs crossed and her hands in her lap as she listened to Olric sing. She had heard the song before, but she had never heard Olric sing it before.
