I agree completely. Skyrim is the game I go to for mindless, beautiful wandering, and it's a very blank canvas story-wise, so it lends itself to being great to mold into your own thing. But NV is a special kind of game imo, since it not only has one of the best stories I've come across in a game, it still gives you all the choice you could want. And with mods, the atmosphere can be as good as skyrim's.
Also it's a plus that it's fun to describe in the most vague terms to friends who haven't played it yet. "Uh, it's a game where you play a mailman who gets beat up by Chandler Bing and have to go find him and beat him up too, and also you can send some dudes to the moon, and there's some really hardcore Roman Empire LARP-ers, and a cute robodog..."
It really does. I confused someone so badly the more I tried to explain it. "Also you can meet this really cool dude inside a huge ass dinosaur, and also one of the other companions thinks that your character is her grandkid even though she's an entirely different species, and-"
