"It took 19 years for the world to burn, dying a slow lingering death filled with pain, torment and despair. By the end the nuclear fires were a blessing, washing the lands clean and leaving the Wastes for the strong and mighty to seize for themselves. They weren't alone though, no. There were many pretenders for the Promised Lands, raiders and muties, thugs and slavers, all clawing for their piece of the shattered Earth."

This roleplay takes place in a loose version of the world of Mad Max, around the time of Fury Road although in a totally different location. The story follows a small group of survivors looking to carve out a piece of territory for themselves, surviving as best they can against the harsh world in which they live. Random events will get in their way, including raider gangs, supply shortages and severe weather conditions, and the group will have to either work together or find ways to prosper on their own.

The adventure will start with the players arriving in the new territory equipped with light vehicles (motorcycles, trikes or buggies) and having to obtain supplies to survive and materials to improve their equipment with. Each player will be invited to propose a 'project' to be completed, which can either be a community event designed to improve the overall status of the group (such as scavenging supplies, establishing or expanding a base camp, or scouting new locations) or more personal projects designed to improve their own characters (acquiring or upgrading a vehicle or piece of equipment, training to gain new skills or learn new abilities, or tracking down a rival for some payback.) Based on these proposed projects I as GM will create a list of objectives required to complete the project, and players can then post on the activities they undertake to try and complete those objectives.

Some projects may be simple and only require a few easy to complete objectives before being completed, while others may take far more objectives are will represent a prolonged investment of a character's time and resources, and may even require the assistance of other players in order to complete. For instance any piece of equipment with moving parts or which use chemicals in their operations (guns, engines, etc.) would need the services of a Blackfinger, while any task involving medicine or biological knowledge may need the input of an Organic Mechanic.

Speaking of Blackfingers and Organic Mechanics, each character may choose upto two roles from the following list. By combining traits from these roles players can craft their characters into a more flexible and well rounded participant than any one role would allow, while still leaving them in need of help from other players.

  • War Boys - melee fighters
  • Road Warriors - combat drivers
  • Speakers - diplomats and traders
  • Longlookers - scouts and surveyors
  • Blackfingers - mechanics/engineers
  • Organic Mechanic - medical 'expert'
  • Leadslingers - snipers and gunslingers

In order to try and reward players for acting in a consistent manner with their character I'll be using a scoring system which will allow players to pull off mind-bendingly powerful actions as long as they fit with their character's personality. The way this is managed is through the Motivations point system, with players being granted points for acting in certain ways, while losing points in opposing traits at the same time.

The five personality types are:
  • Blue
Represents wisdom, enlightenment, and mysticism. The type of people whose goal is to expand the mind and the spirit, or gain knowledge. Opposed to Red and Silver.
  • Red
Represents passion, emotion, action, and zeal. The type of people whose goal is to live in the moment, to experience life to its fullest, or to follow their heart wherever it leads them. Opposed to Blue and Green.
  • Yellow
Represents justice, compromise, and the greater good. The type of people who view life's difficulties from a broad, communal perspective rather than an individual one. Opposed to Green and Silver.
  • Green
Represents charity, sacrifice, and empathy. The Tide of people whose primary goal is to help others, especially at a cost to themselves. Opposed to Red and Yellow.
  • Silver
Represents admiration of power and seekers of fame. The Tide of people who seek to influence the lives of others or who actively seek to be remembered. Opposed to Blue and Yellow.

Comparison chart for personality paths. Colours opposite one another on the chart are opposed,
while those beside each other compliment one another.

Each time a player makes a post which phrases an action or piece of speech by their character in a manner representing one of these types they will receive one point for that personality type colour, but will lose a point in both of the opposed colours at the same time.

Points will not usually be awarded for multiple posts made by the same character in quick succession, with these events being counted as a single prolonged scene rather than separate ones. An exception may be made to this rule if sufficient time has passed since the last post, or if a significant change in the course of events has occurred for the character between posts.

Once collected these points can be used either by spending one to overcome an obstacle or difficulty faced by the character, such as running out of fuel or ammunition, or to dodge an incoming attack from an enemy, or they can be used by spending five points at once to pull off some sort of impossible feat associated with the personality colour of the points being spent.

Hopefully this will mean that players who nmake the effort to keep their character acting in a similar manner consistently will be rewarded for these efforts by having a character who can survive harsh conditions better and who can perform more skilfully in event the toughest situations, without everyone making their characters into immortal super soldiers right off the bat.

@The Bork Lazer Just wondering, but does SawBones have a large, refrigerated box which he stores ‘spare’ body parts in called the Hippo’s Crate?

Okay, first IC post is up so feel free to jump in whenever you can.

I'll be looking for characters to make some sort of statement as to their intents for the opening, with a clear idea of what they'd like to achieve in the short term based on the way their convoy has been shattered.

This should be something along the lines of salvaging what they can from the wrecks, policing the dead bodies for gear, scouting the nearby area for supplies/safe camp sites, setting up a guard position to protect from any returning radiers, etc. The details are entirely upto each player, but they will affect what happens next in the adventure so please try to plan ahead.

Thanks, and have fun! :D

Don't worry, there'll be a new event at the end of the day even if no other players post. Haven't made the die roll yet though, so not sure if it'll be a good event or a bad one.
