Name: Lei Shoubo
Aliases: Lei Baifeng (White Phoenix), The Prodigy
Titles: Heir to the Lei Wu School, second generation student of the infamous Beggar Kuo
Age: 19
Place of Origin: Southern province of Zhoudong
Kingdom: Taisong
Gender: Male
Time of Death: 0
Eyes: Lively, aquiline hazel
Hair: Jet black and quite long, neatly styled up into a ponytail with a few loose strands.
Physical traits:Lei stands at a not particularly impressive six feet sharp and weighs around 185 pounds. At first glance he appears something of a lanky runt, a perception furthered by his long arms and 78 inches of reach making him appear gangly, but he possesses an obviously well trained athletic physique packed with lean and well defined muscle, especially for his age. Though his face is clean and sharp, retaining boyish good looks, his body shows the strenuous life he has led and is covered in a myriad of scars and markings, with his limbs in particular being terribly hardened from relentless conditioning.
Day To Day Attire:While not ordained himself, Lei dresses in blue and white robes similar to those worn by monks in his homeland and other territories in close proximity, even wearing a set of 12 large prayer beads around his neck. Each bead in Baifeng’s rosary is decorated with a single character that either is evocative of a specific mantra or is a mantra in its own right. Not as common but not unheard of, the martial artist supplements his soft-soled cloth moccasins with near knee-high cloth wraps and wears similar cloth gauntlets and wrappings on his hands and forearms.
Strengths:Superbly talented and trained martial artist, gifted in body and mind, surprisingly well educated
Weaknesses:Does not and will not use magic, weapons or armor, supremely self-assured
Energetic * Loyal * Unyielding * Honest (sometimes to a fault) * Combative * Supremely self-assured * Meritocratic * Self-reliant
Sexuality: “Who am I interested in? Well, anyone anyone with strong martial arts obviously, I want to keep getting better”
Relationship Status: “I’ve gone out plenty! Lots of training trips and challenges!”
Personality:An outgoing and energetic youth, seemingly always in high spirits, Lei Baifeng nonetheless follows the path of warrior of his own choosing and this shapes his interactions with others. Downright obsessed with the martial arts and combat skills, he is tremendously secure in his lofty abilities and somewhat lacking in social graces, making him terribly blunt at times and prone to criticizing the form and skills of others, though he’s also friendly enough and can be easy to get along with if one takes his quirks into account.
And speaking of his quirks, The Prodigy holds himself to exceedingly high standards first and foremost, in excess of what he expects of others. Lei puts deception and treachery beneath him and is extremely driven to prove himself as good as he thinks he is, especially as it would bring honor to his teachers and family. On the one hand this makes him bold, loyal, straightforward and brave, but on the other it can make him adventurous to a fault and at times unnecessarily combative and unwilling to let a slight go.
Finally, he is a firm believer in self growth through hard work and earning one's keep. He thinks little of those gifted their position or power, having earned his through much effort, and similarly expects others to put in the work to help themselves rather than just be fed easy solutions. Having said this, he acknowledges the skill and strength of others when proven and greatly values growth and the necessary conditions for it, meaning he will go out of his way to ensure people can carve their own path in life.

- Lei Wu Tiger Crane Fist (Grand master): Lei Baifeng is one of the greatest unarmed fighters in the world, having turned his entire body into a deadly weapon capable of contending with armed and armored adversaries. Trained in the combined skills of three martial masters, and well versed in other fighting forms and combat in general, Shoubo employs a versatile, deceptive and highly technical style. Controlling engagements through defense, positioning and timing, with much circular motion and darting in and out of range, in offense he is precise and patient, prodding and slowly breaking opponents apart at a distance until the opportunity for a sudden, focused attack presents itself.
- The Way of Observation (Master): Much of The Prodigy’s success comes from his ability to read opponents and the flow of an engagement. As much a natural aptitude as it is a specifically trained and developed skill, forged through comprehensive understanding of combat dynamics and technique and hours upon hours of study, Shoubo is very hard to catch unawares or out of position.
- Body skills (Master): Intent on training himself to the utmost, Lei has not only engaged in the necessary physical preparation for martial arts training, he has also delved into a great number of avenues for body development and expression. From sprinting and long distance running, to swimming, climbing and even some acrobatics and free running, the most impressive part of Baifeng’s athletic abilities are his near-gravity defying leaps and bounds commonly known in Taisong as the light body skills or qinggong.
- Survival skills (Expert): The life of a wandering martial artist can be quite inhospitable, exposed to the fury of the elements and the dangers of wildlife as one embarks on training voyages or sets out in a new adventure, and thus many masters often learn to thrive in the wilderness. Lei is quick to adapt to the ways of nature even in foreign lands, reliably able to find food, water and shelter, deal with wildlife on some level, endure harsh conditions such as extreme temperatures or altitude and generally get by just fine with nothing but his own two hands.
- Physiotherapy (Expert): A large part of training in the martial arts is ensuring the body does not break down, and it is normal throughout the world for top instructors to be well versed in medicine to ensure this. Though not a healer per se, Baifeng has enough knowledge to help stabilize the wounded, knows medicinal herbs and concoctions and is well versed in anatomy and how to best manipulate it through therapeutic massage and bonesetting.
- Education (Journeyman): Though it’d be easy to take him for a meathead, which is truthfully not an entirely wrong assessment, Lei Shoubo actually received an education on matters not fistic violence from a local temple. While he was not particularly scholarly inclined and never wanted to be a monk himself, he is decently versed in lore, history and other common knowledge subjects, can read and write, speaks a little of a smattering of languages and even knows a little of song and dance for festivals.
Unlike many other heroes, Lei Baifeng employs no magic and carries no items of power, instead possessing the following physical gifts:
- The body a fortress: Lei Shoubo possesses no wondrous magics, no artifacts passed down in myth, only himself as he came into this world and as he will leave it, and this single-minded dedication has borne fruit. Though there definitely are larger, stronger beings as far as pure lifting is concerned, The Prodigy is not easy to overpower on muscle alone, and the rest of his physical parameters are so developed as to allow him to fight evenly with fully equipped adversaries. His entire body is tremendously difficult to damage, eradicates poisons, toxins and disease with absurd ease and he can work his simple physical attributes against sorcerous forces without being brushed aside.
- The mind a temple: The Prodigy has developed a mental acumen to match his physicality, not so much on the intellectual side of things and more predicated on unbreakable willpower and sharp instincts. He has has excellent control over his body’s functions, able to do things such as shut out pain and push himself beyond his reasonable physical limits at times, and attempts at psychic attacks or mental tampering can be about as difficult as trying to fistfight him. He has also trained himself to not rely entirely on his eyesight by focusing on his other senses, and he possesses an outstanding talent for perceiving danger and tracking targets as well as an uncanny sense of direction.
Myth / Legend: Arguably, Lei Baifeng’s legend has yet to truly begin, as he is but a young man born and living in the current day. What this doesn’t take into account is that he a true prodigy of the martial arts, son to highly respected pugilists
“Dancing Boulder” Lei Kam Bo and
“Wild Princess” Wu Chan Yu, with his father’s teacher and adoptive parent being the infamous master of drunken boxing, rumoured immortal
Beggar Kuo Siu-tien. With his pedigree and potential growth, Shoubo is perhaps the most promising prospect the vast martial community in Taisong has seen in many years and a definite legend in the making.
It was for this reason that when the world began to wither and die, Lei went against his family’s wishes and presented himself to the Gathering of Champions at the famed Mount Lo. Knowing the situation of the land was dire the foremost martial figures of Taisong came together with the authorities to arrange for a grand contest, one that would determine worthy heroes to undertake a quest for the sake of all living things. Feeling he was still lacking in maturity, Shoubo was forbidden from attending, but the impetuous youth snuck out intent on proving the validity of what he had been taught but most importantly proving himself special.
It didn’t take long for the impulsive, critical and brutally honest youth to make enemies for himself as stringent etiquette went unobserved and egos ran wild. Certainly, once the heir to the Lei Wu School proved his identity and worth with a victory over famed temple exponent Wong Hark, many were chomping at the bit to challenge him seeking fame, recognition and the downfall of a potentially troublesome rival. Letting his arrogance get the better of him, the so called Prodigy personally challenged the five favorites to win the contest, betting his life on his ability to best all of them one after the other.
The battles were hard fought and increasingly grueling. The chosen five were famed warriors skilled in the use of various weapons and curious fighting skills, but Lei Baifeng would not be denied and his beautiful art saw him fell men that in other time might have been legends in their own right. The spectators were wowed by this youth’s skill, poise and courage, and even his rivals came to respect his abilities and the willpower to carry on the fight as his body deteriorated. The Prodigy’s victory seemed clear, but as he was on the cusp of glory it was snatched away, the dream suddenly turning into a nightmare.
His final rival, battered and bloodied and assumed beaten but never declared the loser, gave Baifeng a lesson in cunning. With the battles taking place in a natural location, full of traps for the unsuspecting and the unskilled, the villainous Lu Wei pounced on a moment of weakness from the youth and found it in him to cast Lei down a great waterfall nearby. Those watching panicked first, then accepted fate with sorrow. Surely, with his wounds not even The Prodigy could survive, and Lu Wei had acted well within his right against a challenger who signed for a death match. With a heavy heart, they sought to recover the body for burial.
But once again defying the odds, Lei Shoubo had not passed on to the next life, and as he was rescued and tended to he grasped as firm a hold on life as he ever had. Had he died? Had he not? How long had the fall been, how long had he watched his short life unfold before him? He did not know, but now he knew he had a purpose, a mission to see through. The World had called upon the souls of great heroes and so he would answer...
Parents: Lei Kam Bo and Wu Chan Yu, Kuo Siu-tien is his father's master and adoptive father.
Siblings: None
Childhood:Shoubo’s life has been as hectic as it comes. Raised by two martial artists to be their successor, and helped along by an ancient drunken master in it as much for his own amusement as for Lei’s benefit, for a fair part of his life his parents chose to avoid exposing him to the greater rigors of their lifestyle, instead leaving him to study and learn the basics of combat in a local temple. Ever since it was reasonable to do so Lei Kam Bo and Wu Chan Yu both personally instructed Baifeng in the intricacies of their styles, taking him on formative training journeys and expecting him to excel, often also saddling him with settling disputes and disagreements between them to boot.
Adulthood:Ongoing
Special Moments:Accompanying his parents on their journeys, triumphing in his first fight, his first defeat at the hands of an older, more experienced opponent, earning his lofty reputation.
