A cockroach jumps in your way! Disgusted by its presence, and ashamed for having feelings ill befitted to a warrior of your station, you get ready to crush it. However, the cockroach lifts one of its exoskeleton's limbs, which gives you reason to pause... and to your absolute disbelief, it begins speaking in a high pitched tone. Clearly, there is dark sorcery at hand.
"Halt, simpleton! My Master demands an audience with you. Follow me... or else."
You decide to follow the cockroach. Despite it's size, you could appreciate some sort of tiny sash as it fluttered away. Also, you really didn't like the slow and deliberate way it said 'or else,' almost as if savouring the words.
You finally arrive to a sinister figure, cloaked entirely in black. It is pacing around nervously, talking to itself, almost as if rehearsing. However as soon as it catches sight of you, it tenses, becoming incredibly well composed, almost dignified in its stance.
"May I present to you, the King of All Edges, the Cli..."
The cockroach's antennae seem to shrivel: you can almost swear you can feel its stern gaze even though you can't see beyond its dread drapes; not even as it turns to regard you.
"Greetings, peon.
Over the years, I have accumulated many names and titles. Some are too dreadful to be uttered, for to speak them would unleash terrible evils upon the world, or worse, bring you to my attention. Others are too alien to even be pronounced, not to mention your fragile little minds would shatter were you to hear even a single one of them. For now, you shall content yourself with knowing me by one of my less harmful monickers: the Crooked Knight.
I have ridden far and wide in search of a worthy househould to which I might pledge my pen. Might this be it? You should hope so, for I do not suffer fools who waste my time."
There is an awkward shift in the figure's body language, clearly uncomfortable as it looks away from you.
"Now, as my monicker of choice implies, I am a lawful entity, and droll and wholly uncreative as it may be, I will abide by the site's standard introduction format:"
Roleplaying career: I consider myself a veteran, and I've RPed in just about every medium I'm aware of, to some extent(forum RP, videogames, particularly MMORPGs, tabletop, LARP (once!) and my latest guilty pleasure, interactive novels). I consider proper RP etiquette and OOC communication paramount to telling a good story, be there a GM or not.
I've also RPed a wide variety of characters in wildly different settings, covering a bunch of genres and pretty much the whole of the classic alignment spectrum. I am most used to playing original characters, but I am more than happy mold a character around a GM's specific needs, and even provide redshirts, quest-givers and antagonists.
Roleplaying preferences: I much prefer complex stories with deep, character-driven plots... although I'll also join a dumb, easygoing comedy any day if the story and the writing's good.
I'm most experienced in fantasy, although I would loathe to single any particular genre out as my favourite. The logic above applies: if the plot catches my interest and I'm in good company, everything's a go.
I'm also well acquainted with the more mature aspects of RP, and personally have no taboos when it comes to mature themes, graphical depictions of sex and/or violence, etc. That being said, I have no interest in crass or gratuitous displays. Telling a good story is my primary concern, along with having a good time... and of course, I am more than happy to respect my peers' sensibilities, just like I wish they respect mine.
Honestly, I've come back to forum RP because, for some time now, roleplaying's been feeling like a chore, and I wish to rediscover my joy for collaborative storytelling. Also, I've been feeling rather stuck playing in the same setting for many years... so I crave to discover new worlds and create new characters to play with.
Hobbies and interests: Other than writing? Well, the usual, you know... foiling good, upsetting justice... Oh! I enjoy watching the light go out of my enemies' eyes as I devour their souls with terrible and ancient magicks! Let's see, what else... Oh, yes! Tying maidens up and leaving them on railroads! I will grow moustaches exclusively to stroke them as they shriek and weep before the dread visage of a locomitive! Hah! The classics are always a good laugh.
Now, call me a tired cliché, but ever since I was a little boy my dream has been to subjugate the entire world. I don't have the manpower right this second, but I hope to one day have enough minions to enact my dastardly plans. I am currently accepting applications: anyone interested in furthering their career as an evil follower in the exclusive field of world domination can drop me their CV in a PM. Prior experience as a henchman is not a must, but will be taken heavily into consideration.
(No, but in all seriousness, nice to meet you everybody =D).
