It's been almost a month since The Protectors were brought together by over a dozen multinational companies for the publicity. Since that day they've worked together to take down several criminals, including bank robbers, murderers, even a few assaults, but no supervillains yet.

Two weeks ago we were invited to an opening at the Metroville Museum. Dozens of the richest people in town, including many celebrities, will be there. Those celebrities include LeLand Musk, whose company SpaceXplorers started a colony on the moon 5 years ago, and a local genius by the name of Eugene Pine, who has earned over a billion dollars selling his inventions to other companies, including SpaceXplorers and several of the companies which hired us.

In one hour the Museum will be revealing a MesoAmerican exhibit with artifacts that have never before been available to the public. While we are there as guests, our employer has made it clear that we should help if their is an attack. After all, no one likes a superhero team that won't protect them.

Our base is at the top of a thirty story building in the middle of downtown. The top floor is for business, and the next floor down is divided into eight apartments, one for each of us, and four more in case the team gets larger or we need to protect some important overnight. The other floors can be set up for anything we need on site, and include several laboratories, a shooting range and a gym, for developing our skills, inventing, repairing, and doing forensics work.

The Museum opening begins in one hour, but we can show up early if we wish.

Quantum checked his suit one more time, verifying that he had all of his equipment, then left his apartment. He sent a quick text to the other people on the team and walked down to the shooting range, taking the stairs so that he would get at least a little exercise.

The message read:

"I'm creating a portal to the museum in five minutes in the shooting range. If you want to go with me, meet me there."

InfraStep laughed when he saw the text. He was laying in his bed in his costume, his belt hung on a hook on the wall next to his bed. He joyfully jumped of the bed and put his belt on before running to the shooting range, being beside Quantum in mere seconds. "Let's make this a race." he smiled. "Your portal against my speed." Just to show off a bit, he began running back and forth along the shooting range furthest from the door.

The television was on in Stormalong's room. If you listened closely from the outside, you might hear it going "You unlock this door with a key of imagination...". That was The Twilight Zone playing. He liked the classics. Someone tried to remake the old shows like this and The Outer Limits in color, with new episodes, but somehow it seemed wrong and unnecessary. After all, these were the brainchilds of writers who were otherwise blacklisted at the time and that they were given their outlet and due payment this way. At any rate, the man in the hat muted it when his phone vibrated with a text message. Honestly, he didn't like the things, but they were a useful enough tool. His was specially insulated against ummm...himself...after the last problem.

"Hmmm. As much fun as instant transmission is..."

He sent back a text saying 'I'll be taking the car'. And you might ask why, of course, but part of being a Mystery Man is...being a mystery. That was one of the many great wisdoms publically spoken by the Red Panda. Basically, you never explain how your powers work, never allow criminals to understand the subtle nuances of your abilities, and therefore...the chances of them surprising you are dramatically reduced. Not to say that it had been particularly difficult, thus far. Stormalong hadn't really exercised much of his powers to capture or subdue people. Really, if he struck a man with a heavy lightning bolt, he'd probably die. Holding back kept them guessing and it kept him from having to tap his concentration too much.

So anyway... Hat, coat, suit-up, and head downstairs to the garage. There it was, the Perfect Storm. Well, time to head to the museum.

"I'm creating a portal to the museum in five minutes in the shooting range. If you want to go with me, meet me there.", Izzi saw the text that...wait what was his super name again?...Quantity? Quantim? Quarter? Whatever, she text back saying, "ok, i'll meet you there"

Izzi put on her suit and say goodbye to her family, telling them she is going to the shooting range with other supers. As she step outside, a group of kids saw her "Cool costume! But it's not Halloween yet." with that, the kids went on their mary little way. Izzi sigh but she continue her walk to the shooting range.

@Rockin Strings"Well, you'd have to go through the door at the top of the stairs, then the bottom, then the front door of this building, which is glass and might shatter if you hit it at full speed. Then the front door of the museum. It will take me a second or two to open the portal, and three or four to go through. I don't see how you can win, but it's worth a shot. Once Kinetica goes through, I'll close it and we'll start. Or I can come back to pick her up. Either way you want to do it."

@TheUnknowable "Once everyone else is through." he agreed, doing beside Quantum. "Wanna bet some money on it?" he smirked, teasing his friend. He wasn't being serious, just cocky. Once everyone else was through, he got to a ready stance. He nodded to his ally before counting down. "3... 2... 1... Go!" As soon as he said, he began running his fastest, trying to get to the museum before the portal even opened. He knew that was impossible but still tried his best. He rushed through the door of the staircase with a bang as he thought. What would he say if he won? What would he say if he lost? What would he say if he won? He exited the stairway, alerting the doorman. As he ran past, he tried the man a bill for his fast work. Must have been waiting for me. he thought as he raced down the street. He ran through the crowd as he approached the museum. He slid in the door as it opened, smiling as he sat to rest not far from the door.

Infra probably passed Mr. Blue Sky as he was running by. It was going to happen. The man was pure speed, after all, and Stormalong wasn't really worried so much about who got there first. The museum wan't letting anyone in just yet. Only us hero types were going in, right now. And him? Well, he parked down the street, actually. He wasn't making the grand entrance. He was first taking to the roof with a little chain action and fire escape climbing, followed by some roof-leaping to make his way to the top of the museum. He preferred to enter unexpectedly. And frankly, people liked that of him, if they werent' criminals. It DID mean using ductwork alot, or at least unlocking and re-locking some roof access. Suffice to say, it allowed him to get into the head of a normal human guy, looking to enter a place. He could make it look easy with his powers, but the subtler nuances of breaking in afforded him a wider understanding of things.

That said, who was gonna be here to greet them all?

As soon as Kinetica was through was through the portal, arriving just outside the museum's front door, Quantum closed it. "Ready?" he asked Infrastep. As soon as Infrastep finished the countdown Quantum pointed his palm towards the floor and started creating a new portal, the other end opening about two meters from where the last portal was. He made it about as small as he could so that it would form as fast as possible, but it still took almost a second to form. As soon as it was stable he jumped onto its center, hands above his head so that he would fit through without touching the sides. With a slight sound similar to something being sucked through a pipe he was pulled through, his feet appearing about half a mile away, two meters off the ground. Once through he fell, feet slightly pointed downwards so that his toes would touch first, he saw the blur of a speedster slide by him, mere feet away.

A man in a suit approached them as soon as he noticed their arrival. "Hello," he said in a Hispanic accent, "I am doctor Raul Consuelo, curator of the meso-american exhibit. Will Mr. Stormalong be joining you?" After Quantum assured him that the entire team would be here, Dr. Consuelo offered to introduce them to the other guests once they arrived.

InfraStep smiled as he walked to Quantum. "Hard to tell who won that." he said, passing his ally on the back. "But it was fun. Don't think I've ran that fast before. What do you think?"

It was then he noticed the curator. After listening to Quantum's reply, he pointed at the man, "I think I've seen you with him. He's the curator, right? Should we introduce ourselves?"
