Name
Naoki Sora
Age
18
Appearance
Naoki has jet black hair, its length bordering on what most would consider long. She usually keeps her hair in check by tying it up into a ponytail, having it float right above her shoulders. She’s got hazel eyes and is a little taller than an average female, being a bit bigger than Kaito. Naoki wears a Kuriboh pin on her dorm uniform, given to her by Kou as a good luck charm. She has a few other mementos given by other friends of hers in the dorm, some of which she keeps in her room and others she lets hang off her bag.
Personality
Naoki is generally a nice person, as she’s always helping people out in any way she can. Contrary to what you’d expect of a collector, Naoki’s pretty charitable and doesn’t mind giving her friends some cards in her collection if it would help them out. She’ll couple it with some advice, of course, wanting people to improve and better themselves. She isn’t worried about the cards she gives out, even if it’s one of her last ones, as she believes that with enough hard work she can get all of them back and their new owner would make better use of them anyway.

Naoki dislikes when people fight with each other, especially if they’re normally friends or in the same class as each other. Naoki always tries her best to break up any fight she witnesses, reconciling and helping the two parties to be better friends with each other. Most of the friends Naoki makes in life are through her helping people out like this, though her naïvete and blind optimism makes her a little too trusting of others.
Dorm
Xyz
History
Naoki was an avid card collector, even before her academy days. She enjoyed using her collection to her advantage, using a large variety of cards to change up her strategy whenever she wanted to. One day, however, she found a certain card: [Number 78: Number Archive]. This card piqued her curiosity, leading to her to research these Number cards. When she found out there were 100 of them, it convinced her to try and collect them all.

As time went on, however, strange things started happening. As Naoki’s collection of Numbers grew, she felt a pain course through her. A constant, unrelenting pain that would grow slightly more intense with each new Number cards. Eventually, voices started talking to Naoki inside of her head. The voice told her that the pain would subside if she collected them all. The girl, not knowing any better, decided to trust the voice and continued to collect Number cards. The pain has grown quite intense, causing her to have to make slow and careful movements.

Name
Masaru Chinen

Age
18

Appearance
Masaru is pretty average in terms of height, being neither particularly tall or short. He has medium-length, midnight blue hair with a few bangs hovering in front of his red-trimmed glasses. Behind his pair of spectacles lie two cool, azure eyes. His skin is smooth and well cared for, but his constant icy gaze and sneer to most people can be more than off-putting. Masaru pays great care to his appearance, which is evidence by how his uniform never seems even the slightest bit wrinkled. His more angular face bears great resemblance to that of his mother’s, showing that he inherited a lot from her. He’s also not very athletically built, being more scrawny than muscly.

Personality
Masaru is a diligent but stubborn individual, obsessed with constantly trying to improve and being the best at at all times. Because of this, and some inherent intelligence, he considers himself better than most people and will look down upon them most of the time. That’s not to say he can’t hold a regular conversation, but he’d rather not engage with people he does not deem worth his time. Because of these factors, Masaru is a very sore loser. He dislikes failing anything and will beat himself up over things in a disproportionate manner, leaving him unable to be happy for his opponent to have won.

Masaru is also generally cold and dismissive to people, which make him and Emi Fujino a surprisingly good duo. If you see either of them interact with somebody, it’s usually each other. Conversely, people like Hyousuke, who don’t take anything seriously, annoy Masaru to no end. Masaru doesn’t have a sense of humor, either, making him clueless whenever most people crack a joke.

Dorm
Synchro

History
Masaru is the son of Aiko Chinen, his dorm leader. She’s always been a hard worker who was hellbent on her goals, so it comes as a surprise to most people that she has a son to begin with. As you might expect of this hard working lady, though, she never had much time to spend with Masaru. The boy grew up around his father for the longest time, though on Masaru’s 10th birthday, his father passed away in an accident. Even so, however, Aiko had trouble finding time between her work hours to spend time with Masaru. She obviously cares for her son, but due to constant stress and overwork she put a lot of expectations on him and kept pushing the boy to get excellent results. Aiko was very strict in that regard, making Masaru grow up with very little fun in his life.

Things got even more complicated when the company Aiko was working for, Noritaka inc, wanted to transfer her over to Harmonia United as the lead researcher and one of the teachers there. Reluctantly she agreed, but decided to take Masaru with her once she did. Even if Aiko had little time to spend with her son, she wanted to at least be near him to be able to keep an eye on the boy. Still, this only made things harder for him. Since Aiko was a very strict teacher, Masaru had to quickly learn and study up on everything to work his way up with his grades. By the end of his first year at Harmonia, Masaru was already top of his class grades wise… but his dueling still lacked polish.

During his second year, however, he improved over time. Masaru didn’t have the time to make friends in his first year, but he met Keitaro and Emi on the following one. Both of them were already top notch duelists even back then, often crushing Masaru and knocking him further and further down on the leaderboards. Still, he got back up each time and analyzed his losses to the point of madness, ready to challenge either of them again soon enough. It took him a while, but by the end of his second year at Harmonia, these three had pushed themselves to their absolute limits and became some of the best students in their dorm. During the final exam to decide the next year’s champion, Masaru was put up against Hyousuke, the top runner of the year. After an intense, nail-biting duel, Masaru barely came out on top and clinched the title.

Now, however, he has so much more to lose and even more expectations placed upon him. No matter what it took, Masaru was going to prove that his hard work didn’t amount to nothing, that he deserved to be where he was.

-Name-
Hikaro Machi

-Age-
18

-Appearance-
Machi stands at 5'11", sporting a fairly toned bodybuild and a slouching walk that just screams "carefree". He has fairly short but messy orange hair, with a matching pair of somewhat bushy eyebrows directly above his emerald eyes. Machi is usually dirty and somewhat rough in appearance due to being a bit rowdy, and his uniform never looks that great due to him both not really caring and the fact he messes it up by doing stupid things, like wiping away barbecue sauce with his sleeve. When forced to dress decently however, he can still appear as a decent looking young man; Though perhaps he'd look more off because it's not normal for him at all.

-Personality-
Machi can be described as confident, and overly passionate about dueling. When he's not stuffing his face, he's testing his deck and forming new strategies, before testing them out on the fellow members of his dorm. His loud and rash nature can be a bit irritating to some, though he's generally a friendly guy: Unless you get on his bad side by being stuck-up or a general prick.

He'll gladly throw himself into a situation if he sees something that doesn't stick right with him; usually someone with a superiority complex is enough to pull Machi into trouble by adding himself into a fight or dueling to knock his opponent down a peg. He has a strong dislike for people who shoot down others due to their own cockiness, and tries his best to make them get lost when they cause an issue.

Picking fights aside, Machi is seen as a bit of an idiot due to his general upbeat nature and carelessness, but is respected by his dorm for his talent as a duelist. He's also friendly with the majority of his dorm; Annoyed by severe laziness like Kien's, though still finding him hilarious and incredibly smart. Terrified of Sinata's bursts of aggression and confused by foreign things. Despite being the champ, many of the people in his dorm honestly help keep him on track, though of them do it by making him regret his mistakes more than anything. In return, he tends to pull them into any stupid ideas he has. They're a mess of a crew.

-Dorm-
Fire

-History-
Machi grew up in a family of four: His parents, himself, and his younger sister were a small effective system in a middle-class household. Years before Machi had been born even, his father was a paleontologist: Studying fossils of the past, and meeting the love of his life who was but a simple tour guide on a school trip to an excavation site. Once Machi was born, he was introduced to everything prehistoric; His father decorated his room with fossils, most of his attire and toys were dinosaur themed, and over time the man tried to get his son as interested into paleontology as he was.

While the boy considered it all to be fascinating, he also easily got bored with everything that was involved after digging up the fossils. Scientific observations just weren't for him; He had other aspirations instead. During his childhood he became fascinated with dueling; Investing in his own card packs and building whatever he could out of what he had. Especially the dinosaur cards.

He was pretty good, too: By the time Harmonia Duel Academy had even been put in his head, he was already able to outplay most of his friends, though he found himself oddly on par with his younger sister who had also gotten into the game. Despite being younger, she could read her brother like an open book, and more often than not crushed him in duels.

His love for dueling, along with the fact most of his friends were trying to pass the exams, caused him to decide to try and get into Harmonia United. His father wanted him to strive towards paleontology, but Machi wasn't enthusiastic about spending his life staring at bones. With his mother's consent, and his father caving in and allowing him to pursue what he wished, he was off; Saying goodbye to his parents and little sister, swearing to write, while also telling his sister to also take the exams once she was older.

He told her to keep practicing, too. As he swore to get a lot better before they dueled again.

His exams could have gone better; He wasn't the dumbest kid around but he wasn't terribly smart, either. His dueling managed to place him in the top five, ranking as the fourth best exam duelist behind a surprisingly laid back kid in third; Nari Kien. Who had also proven to be extremely intelligent in his prior tests, as well. Though neither of them were the best of the best, they were exceptional; And ended up in the Fire Dorm together, too.

Machi's first year was fun, more than anything. He was a bit careless, but managed to place himself as one of the better duelists of his first year; Managing to beat Kien and a third year student before losing to the best student in the dorm at the end of the year: Marouki Sinata, a first year like him, in an absolute blowout. He wasn't angry, or disappointed, he had a lot of fun with it; And was determined to change things around during his second year.

Which he did; Along with the help of Kien. His fellow second year student helped him learn and become much better over time; He worked hard on his strategies, he ate all the leftover barbecue after Fiery Friday, and despite harsh competition, the positions changed: Sinata ended up pushed back to third that year, though she mostly went unopposed with the students below her.

It left Kien as the best student of the dorm that year, with Machi in second after managing to get Sinata back for his loss at the end of the first year by kicking her down the ladder to deny her passage to the title of champ. This lead to the finals being between Machi and Kien, which ended up being a very close and drastic duel; Kien's mind playing around Machi's strategies that he helped build himself.

But Machi held out.

Whenever Kien thought he won, Machi pulled himself out of defeat barely. By the end of the duel, Machi had only 400 Life Points left to Kien's 2200, before landing a devastating direct attack. Making him the champion, and leaving Kien blasted back down to second place.

One thing bothered Machi; And it was Kien's field during his direct attack. He had two cards set, and neither of them had triggered during that final turn. It was possible they were bluffs; But he knew Kien. That guy thought long and hard about the decisions he made, and he planned a lot. He has had a sinking feeling Kien let him win that duel, but he has never managed to ask Kien to confirm it. Despite how much it bothered him, he left it be. Not wanting to insult Kien as both a friend and duelist he respected.

Machi is now going into his third year as the newest champ of the Fire Dorm; Not yet realizing just how much his actions mattered now. He had a bumpy road ahead of him, and the only people he had were his dormmates to keep him from falling off the path and screwing things up.

Leonard L. Leonard

("Leo")

Age
19

DARK Dorm would be my preference.

Appearance:
Leo looks like a ruffian, through and through. He’s tall (6’3”), lanky and skinny. His hair is long, just short of his shoulders, brown and usually tangled. His uniform is usually kept in rags as well, although not unwearable (yet) all of it has noticeable tears and damage he’s never bothered to repair or replace. He has deep blue eyes (which lose their colour when his psychic dueling is in effect) and usually has just a touch of facial hair that he won’t shave off as he should.

Note:
I couldn’t find anywhere this kinda fit in very well - at least not to explain in detail, but it’s an important pillar of the character. Leo is a Psychic Duelist, as they appear in 5Ds, meaning he is able to deal real, physical damage with duel monsters in proportion to the Life Point damage dealt to the player. He does have some grasp on his power, mind. He’s really not likely to seriously hurt anyone unless he invokes particularly powerful monsters (the only time he ever did cause a serious injury was the first time his power manifested. Then, he put a school bully in the hospital, mind) although he has before caused some minor cuts, bruises and burns still. This is part of why he’s at Harmonia - to help him better learn to temper and control his power. He does have a psychic inhibitor - his is a golden-looking earring that curls around the back of his earlobe. (Think like Akiza Izinski's hair accessory in 5Ds. If he takes it off, shit goes *down*.)

Personality:
Leo seems to be the only student at Harmonia who has the astounding ability to seem like he doesn’t even remotely want to be there. This is mostly a half-truth borne out of his homesickness, fear of his own power and ultimately the feeling that amongst Harmonia’s student populace, he feels as if he’s very much alone, even in the largest crowds.

Leo has been demonised by some of the other students - at least the ones who found out one way or another that he is a Psychic Duelist and to an extent he welcomes it, although he’s nowhere near as unfriendly as one might believe - he is unbelievably serious about his Dueling, given both his status and ability but he still tries his best to maintain an indifferent, chilled demeanour otherwise - lest the constant pressure drive him insane of course. He outwardly projects that he’s not interested in making friends, although the truth of it might not be the case.

He has had a few problems integrating into the local culture and has had a tough time learning the local language - although he’s just about competent as spoken, he’s hopeless at reading and writing.

History:
Leo had always been a strange child, but he could never really perceive why. Sure enough he went to an average school in his average hometown of Leicester, got average grades and played Duel Monsters with his friends and siblings, at which he was average. Just about the only abnormal thing about him was his name, which certainly didn’t help a young Leo not get bullied, but wasn’t even remotely enough to justify that feeling of ill belonging. When he got his answer, he immediately wished he had never learnt.

See, one particular brute at the school also played Duel Monsters and he was pretty damned good at it too. This boy, by the name of Alexander had a particular thing against Leo, if only because he wanted Leo’s rarest card, “Sophia, Goddess of Rebirth”. He hounded the young boy for weeks until he put the card up in an ante duel. All seemed normal for the Duel. Alexander pushed Leo into a corner with his abilities but he left too many special monsters on the field, which allowed Leo to summon his precious Sophia with his opponent’s cards. But that’s when it got weird. This was just a duel with cards on a table but.... Sophia appeared and more than that, she attacked Alexander. The result was not pretty. It was one school bully spending the next few weeks in the hospital, half of the school population traumatised from watching and property damage that the school had to claim was an act of a god. Once his powers surfaced, Leo lost his chance at a normal life - and with Duel Britannia, the pre-eminent dueling school in the UK, ill-equipped to handle a Psychic student, he had to board a plane halfway around the world to one that was.

He bade farewell to his family and friends, at least for now but he realised at least one positive of the situation. Once he did arrive at Harmonia, he flourished. Finding out about his power and having the responsibility to control it finally gave Leo the drive he had been lacking for as long as he had. During his first year at the Academy, he was still fairly regular, sometimes threatening the tops of the rankings but only barely - and with his grading continued into his second year, he couldn’t quite break the glass ceiling placed above him by his first year’s grades. But the third year carried a fresh start...

Hell & The Unknown

Leo brought his “Burning Abyss” deck with him, which are far more common in the West, although he has supplemented them now with a series of “Entities” - almost unheard of back home but far more common here in Japan.

Leo’s deck does not feature on raw power, given his distaste for causing harm with Psychic Dueling. Instead, he uses powerful effects like his Viruses to control the field and disable his opponents from getting to their own power cards, or to easily remove them from play once they have hit the field or even to use his opponent’s cards as nothing more than common material. He often presents significant obstacles for the opponent(s) to overcome and rarely fights back from behind himself, although he’s capable of doing so if he needs.

Name Kanna Hayashi

Age 18

Appearance
While slightly above average height at 5’ 4” Kanna is still the shortest of the Top 5 in her dorm; paired with her slight frame, with thin shoulders, a narrow waist and a small bust, at first glance she doesn’t appear to be very imposing, though it would be a mistake to underestimate her.

Kanna keeps her black hair tied back in a ponytail with a long triangular fringe swept to one side of her face, the tip of which can just brush her cheekbones. She has a pretty face, narrow with a thin nose and slightly pouty lips; her eyes are a dark, chocolaty brown that contain a fire that belies her unassuming looks.

She rigidly adheres to the school’s uniform standards and expects the same of her dorm mates, though she has had little success at encouraging this except with Touma.

Personality
Kanna takes things seriously; whether it’s her studies, her duelling or her self-inflicted status as her dorms leader she approaches it with the same strong will and driven nature that propelled her to the top of her dorms rankings. Most of Kanna’s life at Harmonia United is spent in a state of constantly trying to improve, through deck building and testing, studying or theory crafting.

All of this means that Kanna is somewhat highly strung and at times finds herself a little stressed out; her ambition to be the best encourages her to work herself too hard while her competitive nature then pushes her to prove that her efforts have paid off against others. She has a hard time letting things go and just relaxing, which is why it is important that she has people in her dorm who will force her to take a break every now and then.

Her dorm is both a source of pride and ire for Kanna. As the top ranked duellist she sees herself as their leader and tries to be a strong example for them as well as someone that they feel they can rely on, while also encouraging them to improve as duellists. However, while she gets along with most of them and there is not a single person she would say she dislikes, their various quirks, hang-ups and in a few cases complete unwillingness to take things seriously mean that she is often at her wits end when dealing with them.

Dorm
Water

History
Kanna is the only child of a pro duellist and a nurse. Growing up she didn’t see her father a lot growing up as he was often on the road, travelling to various duelling tournaments around the world. Even so she had a good relationship with her father and was always happy whenever she got to see him; she was very proud to have a famous duellist for a father and would always try to watch his matches on TV.

Hajime Hayashi is an Atlantean/Mermail player and when it came time for Kanna to make her own deck she made a pure Atlantean deck to try and emulate him. She wasn’t a very good duellist at first and had trouble getting used to the way the deck played but with some advice from her father and constant practise on her part she improved over time.

Becoming a pro-duellist was always Kanna’s goal as could be expected. She enrolled herself at Harmonia United for its reputation as one of the best academies and was accepted after passing both the written and duelling exams, the first with flying colours and the latter with an above average but not exceptional performance.

For her first year at the academy she continued to use her Atlantean deck only to quickly find that her skills with the deck were not good enough to earn her a place in the higher ranks. While she slowly managed to crawl up the ranking through her hard work and earn herself a reputation as someone not to take lightly, the amount of work required to improve was large disproportionate to the gains she was making. She stubbornly wanted to keep using the deck she had made to honour her father but despite her efforts she began to see a limit to what she could do with her current deck alone.

Half way through her second year she finally made the call to switch to a new deck and chose Nekroz for its apparent versatility and the fact that it was still at least a Water attribute deck. With this new deck it was like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders and she saw massive improvements to her duelling that rocketed her to the top of her dorms rankings.

Name
Samantha “Sammy” Clover

Age
18

Appearance
If you see a short blonde haired girl with a big pink bow in her hair roaming the academy grounds, that is Samantha Clover. Sammy stands at 5’3” and is athletically built. She has the sweetest most innocent face, and seems generally happy all the time. Her blonde hair is long a flowing and her eyes a bright blue. Her uniform is usually well kept and proper. Her most distinguishing feature about her daily appearance would be the big pink bow she keeps in her hair. When she is about play a ranked duel she usually asks if she can change clothes to her “alter ego”. She puts a very elaborate green sailor magical girl costume with a green bow in her hair, tiara, and a “magic” wand. She becomes the “SUPER DUELING BISHOUJO – MAGIC EARTH” (no actual magical powers included).

Personality
Sammy is a very positive person, often looking for the up sides in any situation. Many would consider her Happy-Go-Lucky. She is very much an introvert and is very soft spoken and quiet. If one was to just walk up to her she will shy away from them, but the longer you are around her the more she opens up to you. In her “SUPER DUELING BISHOUJO – MAGIC EARTH” persona, she is generally more outgoing and energetic. She often spouts nonsensical one-liners and performs silly poses. Sammy is also quite the health nut. She goes on a jog every morning, she eats well, and she keeps good hygiene. But most of all, Sammy is a very kind-hearted and compassionate individual. She will help almost anyone if they are in trouble.
Despite how good of a duelist she is, Sammy is as dumb as a rock. She is bad at everything that isn’t dueling, drawling, or designing costumes. Most notable is that Sammy is a terrible cook. Even though Sumika often tries to teach her to cook, it always comes out terrible. All of Earth Dorm dreads it when Sammy is even present in the kitchen when food is being cooked. And she is completely clueless of how bad she is. Her stupidity can come at an advantage as opponents tend to underestimate her.

History
Samantha grew up the daughter of cartoonist and an aerobics instructor. She was an only child and had a very simple childhood. Sammy’s parent took very good care of her, and she’s always been happy. Her father taught her to draw at a young age and art became one of the few things she’s good at. Despite her happy home life, Sammy struggled in school both academically and socially. She has always been very shy and had trouble making friends. Sammy would see the kids in the schoolyard playing Duel Monsters, and at first she didn’t think much of the game. Sammy’s mother, however, saw that Sammy was very lonely so she came up with a plan to get her daughter to connect more with the other kids at school. Sammy’s mom bought some of the cutest Duel Monsters that a young girl might like, and gave them to Sammy. Sammy immediacy connected with her cards, and began to play the game with the other kids. Some cards Sammy still plays to this day was part of the first cards her mom bought her: including Fairy Tail – Snow, Fairy Tail – Rella, Fairy Tail – Luna, and Fairy Tail – Sleeper.
As Sammy got older and she got better and better at the game, her parents decided to enroll Sammy in the prestigious dueling academy Harmonia United. At her first year at Harmonia, Sammy managed to befriend Jacquelyn Demoise, a French student. They bonded over both of them being the two shortest students in Earth Dorm. She also became friends with Sakuya Mishuki after Sakuya defended Sammy from bullies from another dorm. At the end of her first year Sammy was ranked 3rd in earth down, below Sakuya who was 2nd, and Jacquelyn who was 1st. At the beginning of her 2nd year, Sakuya managed to defeat Jacquelyn in an embarrassing blowout which made Sakuya the top student to beat in Earth Dorm. While Sakuya was enjoying her top spot, Sammy was having a winning strike of her own. Towards the end of the year Sammy challenged Sakuya in a duel to decide who number 1 in Earth Dorm is. In the intense duel that followed, Sakuya got so frustrated with having to deal with Sammy’s “SUPER DUELING BISHOUJO – MAGIC EARTH” antics and her odd jumbled deck that she misplayed costing her the game. Sakuya was so angry after the duel that she declared Sammy her nemesis and put a dent in their friendship. At the end of the 2nd year, Sammy was ranked 1st in Earth Dorm.
Sammy’s dream in Duel Monsters is not to be a top pro-duelist like many of the other students at Harmonia. While being pro-duelist helps hurt her dream, what she really wants to do is start a franchise out of “SUPER DUELING BISHOUJU – MAGIC EARTH”. She plans to get her name out to the public by being a pro-duelist. People would see “MAGIC EARTH” dueling and be interested in the character. She would then sell her comic of “MAGIC EARTH” and she would become a big name. Then she maybe have a T.V. show, and a movie. If Sammy can have a Duel Monster made of her creation, that would be the biggest dream come true.
“Magic Earth” was inspired by the magical shows Sammy use to watch as a child, and has been a character she had for a long time. She has always been an imaginative child and the character of “Magic Earth” is one of the characters she made as a child that stuck with her. There have many different variations of the character over the years. Sammy originally named her “Magic Love”, but she changed the name to “Magic Earth” after joining the Earth Dorm.
Sammy didn’t start taking on the “Magic Earth” persona until midway though her second year at Harmonia. Sammy use to always be criticized by others for being shy with her cards. Sammy would miss out on using some of her card effects because she is unsure if they would actually work. Sammy got the idea to take on the persona when her friend Aya suggested that Sammy act more like the character from her drawings. Sammy took that advice as “she should become that character”. With the help of Jacquelyn and Aya, Sammy managed to create her costume and so she started wearing the costume during duels. Taking on the persona helped Sammy be more confident in her abilities as a duelist.
