So, I broke my arm. It doesn't mean I have to drop out but it'll slow me down a bit (a lot).

I hope you're alright. But, if it helps, you should be able to dictate posts.

Y'all have been pretty quiet.

I've been pretty busy myself this last week, finally on break now. I went and saw The Giver. It sucked. Just read the book.

What's everyone been up to?

I've been working on a vamp RP you may have seen in the advanced section, recovering, looking after my family, trying to learn the cello (I won't have the strength to play the bass for quite some time, I don't think, so I need to take up something similar but new), trying to sort out insurance because the insurance told me that "every broken bone has a value" and frankly if they're going to give me moniez, I'm not rich enough to refuse, sorting out stuff for uni next year, AND finding time to frantically boxset Veep, Orphan Black, Utopia, Black Mirror and Being Human.

Busy Jig is busy.

Sure sounds like it. I've been trying to work out my financial aid for this next semester, a few of my classmates have already left because of financial trouble. I'm on break till the end of the month though so that's nice, although I'm already bored after being home for just one day, and I don't currently have a car to drive. I've also got to measure and cut out a bunch of fabric because I'm making Ezio's costume from AC2, so I guess that will keep me busy for a little while. It's kind of fun, I've never made a costume from scratch before so I'm trying to be extra careful with the measuring and cutting since I don't have an exact pattern, just measurements and what I've seen in tutorials. Eh, we'll see how it turns out. I like having a project.

Time was I wanted to learn how to make clothes, but the finance, patience and expertise in getting started just aren't things I have. I think I decided at one point to either take up the cello one day eventually or the sewing machine one day eventually and I chose the loud one to make everybody, not just me, suffer from my inability. xD

Lol, well I used to play violin so I guess I can relate. I just didn't have the patience for it, though I still pick it up every once in a while and remind myself why I don't play anymore. I keep thinking that someday I'll just start practicing again and maybe be pretty good, but… that hasn't quite worked out yet.

I actually picked up an electric violin from a garage sale last year, and that's pretty fun. I may start practicing with that more, since I can just plug headphones into it so no one else has to really hear it.

Ha. I considered trying the (electric) violin when Jig's Very Patient Partner got one for themselves. Hey, I thought, I play fretless bass/electric double bass - I'm used to fingerboards. I bet it'll be easy!

No.

I didn't like the upside-downiness, the pegs, or the MASSIVE difference a very slightly misplaced finger makes. At least the cello sits where you put it and isn't QUITE so picky about where you finger it.

My parents were the sort that "made" me play the piano when I was younger, it was only after a couple years of that they let me take violin lessons. It was tricky at first but I caught on pretty fast. I always played entirely by ear, I can't really read music, which frustrated my instructor. Guess I'm a mimic, I can play just about anything I hear, with limited accuracy because, like I said, I never practice. But that helped me to hear when I was slightly off with the fingering, so correction was easy and after a while you can just do it no problem.

Awh man, I can't stand musicians that can just 'hear' the difference just out of jealousy. Even as a semi-professional musician (very semi, very semi indeed...), I've had to work crazy hard to even hear the difference between two different notes when other people just 'get it'. People insist that I'm musical just because I'm interested and do gig with a band (or did play, depending on my arm), but I find all of it crazy hard; timing, pitch, rhythm, all of it, and while I can play some decent bass, I'm really untechnical and take ages to learn new stuff or to build a bassline to an original song.

I used to take flute as a kid with sheet music, but I wished I'd taken almost any other instrument, where the body is in control of what note is being played, rather than relying on a combination of keys or frets to guide the note into the right place. I kinda feel like it's 'cheating' and it's really hampered my ability to correct. I'm wondering whether putting markers on my cello to mark the 7th and 9th of each string will slow me down in the long-run, even if it's torturous at the minute.

It's worth a try I guess. I think above playing an instrument I like just using my voice (shower acoustics y'know), at least that's probably my best "instrument" since I like to sing a lot, though I wish I was more dedicated to playing an instrument because I really admire people who work really hard and practice a lot and are really good. I just get bored doing the same thing, and dabble in all areas of creativity, so I'm just kind of mediocre at best for a lot of things, but not particularly good at one or another.

Nope, just because I want one. I might wear it to Comicon next year. If I finish it…

Also sorry for being so absent, I seem to have downloaded something nasty that's causing lots of unwanted popups when I click on friendly links, so I'm trying to deal with that now.

How's everyone doing, bored already?
