Start of a journey

A flash of light tore through the dark tunnel as a speeding train came through faster and faster without stop. It was clear something was wrong as it started to tip to its side as the cars started to collide with each other all the while. It was clearly a disaster but this was only the beginning. All across the city, various disasters were reported. The fire started to spread across the city all the while seemingly overtaking the city. All the while soldiers dressed in Chinese garb was slowly making its way towards Fudomine high.

All the while the student council which was forced to stay behind due to a festival which was forced upon them by the school board. Kuremi who at the circular table sighed as she leaned back on her overly large chair her feet propped up on the table. Waiting for the others to arrive. All of them unaware of the approaching men that were coming towards the school at a steady pace. Their blue garb striking in its uniformity as they marched in sync as they approached the building which was coming to sight. Looking at the clock on the wall it the others would be arriving soon as she waited for the others to arrive as she took her feet of the table and started to spin in her chair.

It was -- with a stifled yawn -- that Fudomine Academy's newest Librarian Aide, Margaret Gertrude Karp (better known as Maggie) set to shelving the last book on her cart: ‘Lying Hearts and Dragon's Fire,’ the title read. Holding it, she read the summary, “First-sight romance and hasty lies, burning up two hearts, awakens a vengeful dragon in the soul of a desperate princess, and sends a foolish priest on a fearful race for survival.” Maggie rolled her eyes, and shelved the book; she didn't have time for such farces of fancy.

Maggie didn't believe in love -- especially at first sight. It was simply beyond her, since the things she'd loved the most were ripped cleanly, yet sloppily, away from her at a young age; this level of allowing herself to simply trust was an immense hurdle to pass, in and of itself. Sighing, she pushed the book out of her thoughts, and wheeled the cart to the backroom; she needed to finish up her duties, and press on.

Looking to the Librarian, she offered a nervously polite bow, as she proclaimed, “I've finished all my tasks, Hotsuin-sensei,” she says. “If you don't need me, I'll be heading off.” Looking over, the rather extravagant looking woman just gave her a dismissive smile, as she was face stuffed with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Maggie didn't question it, but she hurried took her bag.

Surely, Kuremi-senpai was getting impatient with her absent Treasurer -- but, it wasn't her fault that she was also the Librarian Aide, and she had a prior commitment in that. Still, she hurried...

...smashing into him.

Maggie's entire world flipped, as she took in, unknown to her, a fellow colleague upon the Student Council. For a moment, her breath held, hostage in her throat, as she stared at him; eyes wide, mouth gaping, heart pounding. Habitual panic started to gnaw at her, as he radiated danger unknown -- not threat, not death, but affection. In a single instant, the concept of “soulmates” clicked with her.

And, she didn't even know his name.

However, she knew to run.

Thus, she ran for the Student Council Room...

...Oh right. Today was Dad's birthday." A young man thought to himself, looking out the window of the classroom he was cleaning. The rest of the people on cleaning duty had long since left, leaving the Vice-President alone in the room. He always insisted on being last to leave anyways, since he had Student Council after regular classes. Walking over to the window, he placed his hand against and looked out over the city, eyes narrowing as he saw smoke in the distance. "...Fire? Was there an accident?" he pondered, questions directed to nobody going nowhere fast.

Finishing up in that room, his footsteps echoed through the relatively empty halls as he cast his gaze up to the ceiling. Today, just like any other, he'd hold out hope that his father would return out of nowhere, to say that he'd missed him so much, and apologize for all the time lost. But...this was reality, he reminded himself, only to deny even that fact of life. It was at the point now that he scarcely remembered what his father looked like, save for when he looked at the photograph he had in his wallet, the constant reminder of his hope and delusions. Keeping his head turned up, he had no time to react as a certain crimson-curled-comet slammed into him, knocking him onto his side.

Completely caught off guard, he was shocked as he looked up to see a girl...awfully surprised at just how lost he'd been. Before he could offer an apology upon standing, she ran away immediately. That was...odd. He felt guilty though, having not paid attention in the hall. Thinking back on it, her red hair definitely stood out...she was the Student Council Treasurer, right? Well, he'd have a chance to apologize, since he imagined she was going to the meeting as well.

Sliding open the door, he said: "Noboru Maki, present. Sorry I'm late Prez, cleaning ran a little long." he said, watching the President spin around in her chair. Wordlessly taking a seat, Noboru looked to Maggie and scratched the back of his head. "About the hallway thing...sorry about that. I was spacing out, was all," he said with a small smile on his face. "So Prez, what are we planning to do for the festival? Can't believe they pulled this on us last minute..."

Please leave me alone.

"And then I heard that the two of them..."

I don't care.

"But out of nowhere, this cop shows up and..."

I'm late. Please just let me leave.

"So after all this, he took her back to his place..."

Just stop. I don't care about your stupid gossip. I just want to be by myself.

"And that's why she didn't show up for school today."

"Man, I would have never guessed she'd get into that kind of trouble, Hana. Listen though, I've got a student council meeting to go to right now so how about we continue this tomorrow?"

"No need, I can just call you later tonight."

"Great. Talk to you then."

As Aoi walked away from her "friend" she could hear Hana begin spreading more hurtful rumors to another group of girls, and she wasn't sure if it was her imagination or not, but she was pretty sure that Hana mentioned her name as well. She wasn't surprised. Aoi was used to this sort of treatment, but like all of her other life problems, she ignored it with a smile. Why bother making a big deal about it? She should just focus on getting to the meeting. Definitely not think about whatever hurtful stuff Hana is saying behind her back.

The girl let out a sigh, giving herself just one opportunity to express her actual hidden feelings before forcing on a bright smile and opening the door to the student council. "Sorry I'm late, I got held up by foot traffic. I didn't miss anything did I?"

Wow, today was exhausting and it's not even over yet! After a long night yesterday and being thoroughly exhausted during gym, Rebecca was tired. Tired enough to the point where all she wanted to do was go home. Unfortunately for her, she had to help plan a festival today and in such short notice too. Thankfully she already did some digging on what happened in the past festivals, such as what worked and what did not, one of the perks of being the record-keeper of the student council being that she had access to old records.

At least I will be able to afford a new book today. Rebecca thought as she opened the door to one of the classrooms. Though she heard others speaking about herself as she passed by Rebecca did not pay much of a mind to it. After all, Rebecca was a girl with few friends and not necessarily outgoing.

Finally reaching the student council room Rebecca opened the door and saw who else was inside while holding her bag. Seemed the president, Kuremi, was here as well as Aoi, Maggie, and Noboru. In other words she was the last to arrive. Seems like I am late after all and I am last. Great, I love being both of those. Rebecca thought to herself with sarcasm. However one should not forget their manners even while being late. Rebecca adjusted her glasses and smiled as she calmly spoke "Hello! Sorry I am late, but I lost track of the time." As she spoke Rebecca put down her bag, took her seat, then pulled out the files she gathered about the previous festivals. At least she came prepared, otherwise this day would just get more stressful.

Kuremi Kurokage/Studen Council Room

Kuremi let out a loud sigh as she stopped her horseplay and leaned forward elbows resting on the table her fingers interlaced as brought her face closer her nose just peaking over her hands. "We come here today to discuss this impromptu meeting assigned to us by the school board on hosting a festival to boost the reputation and morale of the school. As you know this festival is only a few months away from the sports festival which means we have to hurry on this as well. I hate to say it but the odds are stacked on us. Remember our duty is to the students, not the faculty or the school board our first duty is to make sure the students have fun at this festival. Many will disagree with me but I want you all to list ideas. If you would please write down the ideas Noboru-chan" Kuremi said looking at her VP she let out a sigh as she started sifting through the papers she had in front of her desk this was going to be a long day.

"We may be here for a while again I am sorry to ask you of this but I have gotten food that will be delivered here in a bit along with some refreshments again I am sorry for this. In other news, there are a few papers in front of you listing the requirements of the faculty and school board. It must be safe, promote the school, and incite moral within the student body. These are the main requirements they want of us. On the sheet after that is a list of student requests I have gathered and shifted through via the suggestion box I implemented." Kuremi continued her hand went to her mask and took it off placing it gently on the desk showing just how serious she was about this situation. "Look I won't beat around the bush we are bound to fail in this somehow but we must do our best as is our role as student council. After we get this settled we also need to go over club budget once more due to some equipment repairs needed for the judo club, the baseball club and oddly enough the occult club." Kuremi looked around the room at the others waiting for a response she knew what she did will be hard but she was positive they could push through it.

"Got it, Kuremi-san." Noboru said, accepting the duty and clicking a pen out from his pants pocket, spinning it between his index and middle finger on his right hand for a moment. Grabbing a clipboard and a blank sheet of paper, he rested his right ankle on his left knee, humming. "They've sure pushed all the work on us this time. Let's see...something fun for a festival. What if we tried to work some sort of theme around it?" he asked, looking over the papers for the requirements.

"Well, it IS just a cultural festival in the end. They can huff all they want about boosting morale, but in the end we're just coming up with plans to shove onto students too. I'd say some sort of restaurant theme, but then a lot of guys are going to push for Maid Cafes." he said, scratching the crown of his head for a moment, before perking up. "What if we had the Drama club put on a play for the event? We might be able to get them ready in three months if we pick a play soon. Would also give something older people visiting could enjoy."

Noboru didn't need to be told whether his idea passed or not; After all, right now they were just brainstorming ideas. As such, he simply wrote his down for a Play, clicking his pen and then pointing the butt of it at Maggie. "Any suggestions, Ms. Treasurer?" he asked as he paused, standing a bit straighter up as his phone vibrated in his pocket. Taking a moment to open it and view the message from his mother, he had a look of concern. "...My mom's train got derailed. She wasn't on it, but she said there was some huge accident. I'll let her know I'm staying over tonight..." he said, mumbling the last bit as he got to texting his mom back.

Slouching back into his chair once again, he forced his lips back into a smile. "Sorry about that, let's keep going." his voice was the same as ever, but it was impossible to think he wasn't a little worried.

From the moment that Kuremi had mentioned budgeting concerns, Maggie was knee-deep in funding. Despite being an outsider to the culture at hand, the redhead had a good feel for where the students rested their interests. It certainly wasn’t with the Occult Club; it rarely tended to be that such a club wasn’t almost at constant odd with funding to begin with, and, while that could earn sympathy from a bleeding heart, Maggie’s did not -- that, and Japanese mythologies really clashed with her Irish mythologies, so, she’d a small cultural bias. It was simply logical that she would allocate less funding to the Occult Club; personal feelings aside.

In that, she was left with the Baseball Club and the Judo Club. As it stood, Judo didn’t stand on par with Baseball; the pastime was simply grander than the sport. If she divert funding from the Baseball Club, she stood to lose profit from game -- especially, away game. Judo was played for titles, for honor, and showmanship. At least, that’s how she saw it. It was better to profit, as that brought attention and funding into the academy. As such, she would slide what was needed to repair the Judo Club equipment, and nothing more.

As she processed, allocated, and reallocated funding here and there, Maggie was tapping her fingers against the side of a rather large abacus. It was an old device of ancient wood, first stone, and old magic -- unbeknownst to anyone outside her family, or without a fair degree of magical perception. To the layman, it was an archaic device that calculated numbers with practiced efficiency, and just an odd choice for doing math in the digital age. To her, it was a calming means of thinking, flexing her magic in public, and, of course, doing hard math.

However, her concentration was shattered, once Noboru addressed her. Looking up, she tried to pull, even a fragment, of conversation, and was falling to. Fortunately, before she had to answer him, or anyone, her hip was vibrated. Save by the silent bell, she picked up her cellphone, and answer in a near-impenetrably thick, Irish brogue, speaking at a fever pitch about... something. It was clearly distressing her, but she didn’t show it. Sighing, she hung up after several firm repeatings of the same phrase, and flopped into her seat.

Plaintively, she, clearly, swore something in a her native language, and looked up. “Wait... Did someone ask me something,” she asks, having genuinely forgotten what she was asked.

That's dumb. Don't bother suggesting it.

"Well, uh, maybe we could..." Aoi began, her pause sounding more like she had begun suggesting something before she actually had a concrete idea down, rather than the truth that she had just scrapped the first five that had come to mind.

That's a terrible idea too.

"Err, how about..."

Stop right there before they laugh at it.

"Uhh... Oh I know! How about we get the Sports Club and Body Improvement Club to put on some sort of game? Like flag football or something."

What were you thinking?! That was so dumb! Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Despite how critical her inner thoughts were, Aoi's face did not betray a single clue to her fellow student council members. She looked as enthusiastic and happy as ever, a big smile on her face and her hand raised in the air like some sort of cheer.

Kuremi's right. We're going to fail so hard. I wish my sis were here to help. She's so much better at this kind of thing than I am.

Hmm. These records show that a play, which Noboru suggested, would in fact be a good idea if the trend continues. Rebecca had already analyzed at least some of the documents that she gathered before coming to the room. The records would have to be analyzed further, but Rebecca did not exactly have time for an in-depth analysis at this time. She did not have any ideas at this moment as it took her a while to figure something out but Rebecca decided to do what she did best: listen and compare the suggestions to the past.

After listening to what everyone else had to say, Rebecca quickly looked at the records. It appeared that Aoi's suggestion did not seem to be such a bad one: sport events did seem very popular according to the records, though flag football itself was not an idea that was previously explored before. "That's not a bad idea Aoi. Seems like sports games like that were very popular in the past though I don't know exactly about flag football. Never been done before." Rebecca smiled slightly as she reported this finding, adjusting her glasses and scanning the room. "As for a play, I agree. It is a good idea if we can come up with something unique." After speaking, Rebecca felt a vibration from her phone. Taking the smartphone out of her pocket, Rebecca saw a message from her friend, Bill Cumberland, and read what it was.

Kuremi Kurokage/Student Council Room

Kuremi shuffled through the papers all the while listening to each and everything that was said "If I may interject we also got requests from students to hold a musical event at some point. Perhaps this would be a good time to try it out?" She asked not looking from her papers as she started to swiftly write down on a document and placed it in the outbox next to her. The meeting was interrupted as the loud music began to play from Kuremi's phone. Causing her to blush as a result as she quickly answered her cell. Her grandfather had been in a bout of good health felt well enough he said he was walking to the school to visit her with her favorite mochi. While also telling her to be careful cause of the chaos that was happening around town. "Sorry for that" Kuremi said her blush evident on her face as she motioned for the meeting to continue. She was glad her grandfather was feeling better perhaps this time they would be able to to take him home soon instead of him being cooped up in the hospital all the time. "If ideas are needed we can also turn to other suggestions from the students in the box as well," Kuremi said. It was there for that reason after all.

Maggie had ran the numbers, as Kuremi took her phone call, and looked up once she finished. “A musical... would work...” she offered, almost in silence, as if trying not to be heard. “If we pool resources from the Music Club, Drama Club, and Athletics Club,” she pressed her abacus forward, “we can run a production of something...” Maggie shrank back, as she hid her face behind her hair; long, crimson waves cascading to her hips. Suddenly, her attention was taken from the scene, as she felt a messenger stone rattling in her stone pouch. Opening it, she saw the crimson glow, and her heart mounted in abject fear.

Red meant Danger.

Her father wouldn't have sent her such a message, unless his very life was under threat of imminent death. Jumping to her feet, she started to the door, before it burst down. An influx of noises assaulted her ears, as the Student Council room was a repurposed old Theater Classroom; the soundproofing had been kept up, due to being built into the walls. As such, the sudden introduction to the outside sounds and the crash of the door, followed by the slam of stone against carpeted wood, was as disorienting as the action itself.

However, it wasn't nearly as disorienting as it was terrifying. Maggie barely registered what the intruder that had fell screamed, as he fell, before she listened to the “flight” option of the two responses. Fear rooted her in place, however as she didn't think about anything but reaching her father, and being saved by him. That would solve everything, as it always did.

Unfortunately, assumptions where the bane of better thinking, and instinct were the downfall of intellect, as Maggie suddenly bolted; deftly, she leapt over the fallen form of the man that had inspired her fear, and flew out of the room. Eyes all but shut, she ran through the hallways, and passed by a windowed door; attracting all the attention of the sentries in the room -- statues of stone that looked like students and teachers she knew drew swords and bows against her, and marched upon her.

Maggie stumbled, and looked back, as a hail of arrows came soaring at her; also to be suddenly rerouted into the walls. “H-Huh...” she stammered. Before her eyes, a faint hand of small, yellow particles faded into the ether, and she didn’t think on it another moment, as she forced herself to turn and run.

She needed to find her father.

She had to escape.

Just as progress was being made, Noboru nearly jumped out of his seat as the door slammed open, and a familiar looking man collapsed onto the wood. Unaware of what was going on, Noboru just watched the stone encroach upon the man's body until he was entirely swallowed by it, frozen in shock as he slowly recognized him. That was...Kuremi's Grandpa, wasn't it? This was terrible...was he somehow dipped in tar or something? No, that was just the attempts to rationalize the impossible going on. As far as he knew, no disease that made someone turn to stone existed.

Turning to Kuremi, he bit his lower lip, knowing he had to do something...anything. Before he could say anything though, Maggie suddenly bolted. Reaching out to try and stop her, Noboru called: "H-Hey wait, what's wrong? We should call an ambulance-" he said before he saw a hail of arrows pass by the door after Maggie. He had no idea if she was okay or not for a moment, and in the next few seconds he would see a stone soldier rush to the door he was at. Letting out a surprised yell, Noboru fell back and crawled towards the desks, grabbing one by the leg and regaining his footing before charging the stone soldier...now soldiers blocking the door and breaking the door apart. As the door broke, Noboru jammed the desk into the open doorway.

Feeling that he'd slowed them for a moment, Noboru quickly found himself incorrect as the soldier simply grabbed the desk and crumpled it in their hand like it was nothing. Shakily stepping back as that line of pitiful defense was broken through, Noboru finally got a good look at the stone soldier advancing towards him. As it raised its sword, Noboru was frozen in fearful shock, asking out loud: "M-Mom...?" before the blade came down.

Seconds turned to minutes in Noboru's mind, as he felt tears begin to trickle down his face. "Not Mom...please no, I can't...T-This is all a bad dream. This is just a nightmare. Don't make me...D-Don't make her..." he thought, mind on the verge of breaking. "Then, don't fight. Just defend," a voice whispered to his mind. Then, suddenly, his thoughts cleared, and in one swift motion, his hand met the stone set to drive into his chest. As if he were a master of it, he caught her sword deftly between the palms of his hands, a faint shimmer visible to him, as if something was guiding his hands.

"OPEN YOUR EYES! MOM, ITS ME!" he said, forced to sit up with one knee as he pushed back against the stone soldier resembling his mother. Shoving her back, Noboru looked to Aoi, Kuremi, and Rebecca, and shouted: "FIND A WAY OUT! JUMP OUT THE WINDOW IF YOU HAVE TO!" before another strike, this one aimed at his side, was blocked by a chair that he picked up. More soldiers were pouring in, and, worst of all, he doubted Kuremi would be in any state to move after seeing her grandfather like that...and thinking of how he was going to attack them like this if he got up.

Rebecca listened to the discussion as she flipped open her phone, the message being very clear. Confused for a few moments, all that registered in her mind was that Bill, her friend who really liked cowboy themes, was shot. "What? Bill's been sho-" was all that Rebecca managed to get out before all hell broke lose. The door being busted open by Kuremi's grandfather and Maggie almost getting shot was too much for Rebecca to process.

At first, Rebecca froze with fear: she didn't know what to do. The approaching soldiers followed by Noboru's shout for them all to find an exit shook her back to reality. Quickly picking up her bag and adjusting the glasses that shifted a little, Rebecca quickly realized the second part of Bill's message and the screams coming the hall meant that there was much more danger than just these soldiers. It also didn't take much analyzing to realize that there being more than one stone person meant there were many more. Therefore, Rebecca concluded that Noboru had the right idea: the window would be the best way to escape.

Quickly moving toward the window, Rebecca desperately looked for the lock on the window to undo it. Panic set it as she couldn't find the lock for a few moments before Rebecca finally found it shortly. Pushing it out and not caring that they were on the second floor or what was below the window, Rebecca called out "I got the window!" Rebecca waited until she saw everyone moving before attempting to jump out the window, not wanting to leave her friends and fellow council members behind.

Now, as far as Aoi knew, she was the only one in the student council who knew how to use any form of magic. In fact, she felt like it would be safe to assume that she was the only one in the group knowledgeable enough to recognize it's use. So when she saw an older man she'd never met before suddenly crash through their meeting room's doors, his flesh and clothes suddenly turning to stone right before all their eyes, the Director of School Events felt that it was her duty to protect her fellow classmates.

Of course, such a thing would be easier said than done if they weren't dealing with an enemy that seemed perfectly built against the magic she knew. There was no point in risking their lives and swearing them to secrecy about knowing she was a mage when these things probably wouldn't blink at the sight of a flashbang.

Prioritize. One person at a time. That's how you save as many as you can. By this logic, that meant some people wouldn't be saved, only her fellow council members that could save themselves or she helped first. Aoi tried not think about this, but it ate at the back of her mind as she ran first to Kuremi. She seemed the most shaken by the older man's appearance. Did she know him? "Please Kuremi, we need to get moving. We'll try to help them when we can, but that won't be possible if we get turned too," she told the president, trying to pull her toward the window where Rebecca was waiting.

Kuremi looked on in horror as her grandfather burst in screaming and she was forced to watch as stone crept up his body. Part of her wanted nothing more than to run up and do something anything but at the same time, she knew that there was more at stake. She had to be strong so it was with a heavy heart and tears running down her eyes she turned "go escape I'll catch up later!" She yelled at the remainder of the student council. As she grabbed Noboru by the back of the collar "forgive me for this" she said as she quickly pushed him out the window along with Aoi. "Steady breath and calm yourself a shaky hand leads to defeat" She muttered under her breath remembering the kendo lessons her grandfather gave her long ago. First things first she needed to defend her fellow students she alone would shoulder that burden as student council president. Her hand grabbed the mask and placed it a comfort that cost her some time but one that made her feel better about herself.

Kuremi looked there was a lot of the stone soldiers pouring in and she had little room to react. It was clear she had little choice as she backed towards the window. Her hands feeling around before finding purchase on a broom handle. Instinctively gripping it tightly in her hands she stared onward at the enemy using shelving around the room as makeshift shields."I-i-i-i-m Sorry grampa ill come back I promise...." She muttered before taking a swan dive out of the second story window hoping someone was done there to help just in case. Tears flowed freely down her face her hands still gripped tightly on the broom using it to find purchase to slow down her landing as she found purchase the head of the broom getting caught in a guard railing before snapping allowing Kuremi to land roughly on her feet.

Panic gripped her heart like curled fingers of fire and ice tipped with serrated talons of steel, as Maggie stumbled down the corridor. It was her ruckus that kept the bulk of the terracotta soldiers on her tail, and not the others; however, this was neither a noble sacrifice or a selfless one. It was fear, plain and simple. In the back of her mind, she knew she was a coward, knew she would run from danger... yet, no-one had stopped her.

Maybe, they tried, and the blood pounding in her ears had defended her to their desperate cries.

Maybe, someone reached out to her, and her years of fleeing from danger had rendered her simply faster.

Maybe.

Maybe..

Maybe...

[Not. They left.] said the mean voice in the back of her head; a dark spot of her paranoia, given voice. [After all, nobody with sense would willingly plunge into danger, if someone else is taking it away.]

Maggie heard stone marching upon her; swords ready to be drawn; ready to deliver the single slash needed to bring her into the fold as the order commanded over and over. However, a sudden bang caught her attention, as a door burst open, and she threw herself into a classroom; inside, there was no escape, beyond the window, and the teacher's desk. Instinctively, she threw herself under it, and into the alcove. Against the corner, she huddled, and hugged her knees to her chest; ready to rabbit, as soon as able.

They left me. Everyone abandoned me. They did, didn't they.’ Maggie thought, not questions, but statements. 'Even him.’ Her hands pressed into her temples. "Hey, wait! What's wrong!?" she remembered Noboru shouting. 'Wait. Was that to me? Did he try to stop me?’ she asks. 'Why didn't you follow me, Anchin? Why did you leave me...?

Suddenly, Maggie looked up, and a singular thought drowned out the shuffle of stone around her, as the soldiers wandered around the room: Who is Anchin?

No. Nononononono. It can't be. Even if she was no longer using her trademark walking stick, Aoi recognized the figure that slowly approached their group. After all, how could one not recognize their own sister? Hana please don't tell me you're-

I'm sorry child, but it's true.

Who's there? How is it I can hear you within my head?

Worry not. I know how you must feel right now. I have been in the same situation as you are now. It may hurt, but there is only one option. This is how she would want it.

No. Please.

I shall make it painless. Over Aoi's school uniform, suddenly pieces of armor decorated with crosses appeared over her vital areas. A large spear seemed to come out of thin air, placing itself in her grasp as if she was completely familiar with its shape and weight. Pulling back her arm, the girl prepared to thrust the pointed tip right through the stone soldier that was her sister, all the while tears began to trickle down her cheeks. Sometimes, you must kill the things you love to prevent their further suffering. I know this more than anyone.

"STOP!" Aoi shouted at the top of her lungs, wresting what little control she could muster to move the spear just enough to the right to instead impale the wall next to Hana. Her sister was safe, but now she was in danger of being on the end of that sword. Killed by the one she loved and tried to protect. The servant within was disappointed.

Noboru was fully prepared to fight to the death, before a tugging at his collar caught him completely off guard, and, in a swift motion, Kuremi tossed him out of the window and hurtling down towards the ground. Landing on his back, Noboru let out a groan of pain as his ass was surprisingly not broken. Wincing as he got up, Noboru was still holding tightly onto the broken leg of a chair, before Kuremi fell as well. Hurriedly scrambling to try and catch her, he was surprised that she managed that landing, and, seeing that she was alright, his full attention turned to Aoi...and her sister.

Silence overtook him as he watched, his balled fists trembling as he thought of why this could happen, or what could do something like this to people. "Its all HIS fault, you know." a voice rang out in his head for a moment. "Your mom, your friends' family...he's using them all like little slaves." it added, before Noburu clutched his head. "Shut up. Shut up. Shut up," he said, fighting back tears as a sharp pain welled up in his right arm. Wincing as he looked up at Aoi once more, he saw her holding a spear and...covered in armor? This had to be a dream. It all had to be just one really bad, really fucked up dream that he was having from staying up too late.

"Its not a dream. People will die if you don't act. But after all, its not your problem. Just run away and survive; They can manage themselves." the voice said, now perfectly clear, as if someone was speaking over his shoulder.

"SHUT UP!" Noboru suddenly bellowed, smashing the leg of the chair against the fence beside him, twisting the metal from the force before his eyes fixed on the school building. "She's still up there...she's still running. I can save her, I can save everyone. My body...our body..." his thoughts were taken away from him as a searing pain overtook his right arm, as flesh turned to bark, and bone turned into sturdy brambles interwoven beneath the verdant flesh. "AOI! REBECCA! KUREMI! RUN AND LEAVE THIS TO ME!" Noboru yelled forcefully, an almost bestial ferocity to his eyes as he suddenly bolted to the school building, smashing apart a window to draw attention to himself. As shards of glass harmlessly scattered off the wooden flesh of his arm, Noboru stared down the marching hordes of stone soldiers, and at the head of them was his mother, silent and expressionless as she pursued him. Arrows flew by his face, but...they seemed to be moving so slowly now.

"Mom...I'm here." Noboru said, walking towards her slowly as she approached, sword drawn.

"I'm sorry that I didn't thank you for breakfast today...I-It was delicious. My favorite, even." he said, as the first swing she made was caught by his altered right arm.

"...Mom. I'll save you, alright? So just...sit tight and wait." Noboru said, tears streaming down his face as he gently held his mother's calcified wrist.

"Say the words. You know them already. You who are my master, make my flesh your own. Install..."

"...Install." Noboru said before a green light erupted from his right arm just as a few more stone soldiers moved to pierce his still body.

In an instant, a chain wrapped around Noboru, intercepting their stone swords bound for his chest, furiously whipping away and knocking the soldiers aside, as Noboru emerged, twin antlers piercing his skull and jutting out of his hair as he looked at his mother, giving her a brief hug, her arm still forced still by his grasp, before he suddenly dashed past her. As if the chain had a mind of its own, it lashed out wildly against every attack bound for him, deflecting arrows and knocking the armored stone soldiers aside and into the walls as he ran forward. This speed, this power, this reaction time...right now, he didn't care for its source. Seeing that the stairwell was made impassable by the volume of soldiers ascending and descending, Noboru instead jumped out the window, his brown smock fluttered as he moved. Planting one foot firmly upon the side of the building, Noboru sprinted up the wall and crashed through the window on the second floor, and right into the thick of a horde of stone soldiers approaching Maggie.

"Sorry. It must have been scary." he said, looking back at her. "Find someplace safe." he requested, before starting to fight against the stone soldiers, furiously cracking his chain against them and knocking them aside, to the ground, and in some cases even out the window he'd come from.

Rebecca made for the window as soon as the last person was out, getting out of the window and stumbling onto the ground from the second floor. The impact made Rebecca disoriented for a few moments as she looked around, making sure everyone got out safely. However what came next was nothing that Rebecca expected: Aoi suddenly had armor plates and a spear. Where did she even get that thing?!

This only served to confuse the poor student as she was once again brought to reality by Noboru's words. However, something didn't sit right with her this time. Were they only just going to run? Was she only going to rely on Noboru and the others just to run away? As Rebecca thought of these questions she realized that Aoi was in real danger. Quickly, she dug through her backpack as she ran over, took out a book, then threw it at the terra cotta woman as a voice spoke to her. I knew you would make the right decision.

What was that voice just now?
