...........................................................................................................................

For some reason, you have always wanted to be something more. Your village needed you, but for some reason, you left it. Your yearning of something more than the mundane was naive and impulsive, but it was who you are and you are proud of that fact. Your path led you through the world that you have known for the last eighteen or so years of your life. This world is huge and unexplored, though what is explored is known through the petty Kingdoms that make up the "civilized" portion. But you are not a king or princess. You are on the bottom of the totem pole. Or mostly bottom. But you believe through great effort, luck, or skill you can climb the pole and craft a legacy that is more than mundane. But the life of an adventurer is not so easy.

The gods are not kind to those who are unprepared or cocky! The gods are like a cruel mistress without a much-needed bubble bath.

...........................................................................................................................

...........................................................................................................................

The world is a large and mostly unexplored place.

For centuries, monsters and demons have been a constant. Goblin hordes shuffle in the darkness like the mythical dwarves once did, spiders skitter within the largest forests and mountains, and birds of prey look for their next meal with a insaitable hunger. But the darkest things are not the monsters that roam the landscape, but rather the corruptable spirit of human and elf alike -- a spirit that demons felt from across the void. All it took was the right amount of desperation from the mages who hid in their fortresses and enclaves from the devouring hordes. Dark magic helped in repelling the monsters who were still picking their teeth from the bones of the dwarves, but ultimately it would create a cycle of consorting with non-primordial magics. Years upon years after the use of dark magic to fell a good portion of the goblinoid population, one mage was possessed by a demon whom would become known as The Demon King.

With the help of a fallen angel (and the advent of holy magics) the Demon King was destroyed and sealed away. Dark magics were outlawed in most petty kingdoms and a rebuilding era would begin. It has been two hundred years since this occured.

In the township of Ilagorn, one chapter of the Adventurer's Guild is doing business as usual. For some reason you appeared at their doorsteps, hungry from adventure. What is your story?

There are four central classes of the adventurer profession, though there is always room for interpretation. Such things are the fighter, cleric, rogue, and the mage. Interpretations include things like the ranger, assassin, duelist, brawler, wizard, witch, paladin, hunter, and many other things but such things cannot be described to newbie adventurers so we must go with the basics.

Each class is trained through adventurer's guild experts or experience in developing things on their own. One is faster for acquiring new knowledges, but also much more costly. Those who struggle to handle slimes and goblins early on often depend on these experts at the cost of their wealth. Generally though, a newly minted type of person holds at least the fundamentals and a few abilities. I will direct said abilities, though you are free to suggest ideas or even give alternate suggestions. But level one of sorts will be set. That said we should note this story is less about crunch-a-dunch and more about feelings, bonds, trauma, and watnot. Characters will be expected to have a degree of plot armor and I will be very forgiving. But you will maybe get injured and have to deal with that. You might have to deal with PC death, though, so keep in mind that you might have to make new character later in the story.

In addition to class I will ask about the profession your character abandoned and allow you some passive skills to go with what you learned in your old trade. For example, if you were a blacksmith you will be talented in apprenticeship blacksmithing and stuff. I will leave fairly open for creative development! This also includes your childhood heirloom and I will judge sheets on how well people balance class, profession, and backstory.

Oh! Races should be human or elf! Any gender.

Huh, gotta ask. Is it possible for a character to be of more noble breeding? Or would you prefer to have every be set as nameless nerds? And how's em literacy levels?

I would maybe only accept one secret noble? I think I set trade up as important to ensure we mostly had nobodies, but I am not opposed to a super-rich nobody if the sheet is extra good. If you can make the trade skills, inventory, etc. work than I feel it would be only fair to let you play what you want to play.

Huh, guess before I get too involved in this character...how's misogyny in this RP? Do we have 21st century ideas about women, or medieval ideas about em?

A little bit of column a, a little bit of column b! But yes, um, females adopting "male roles" will be scoffed at and given the nature of dark fantasy life is kind of cruel -- but as the adventurer's survey CS thingie suggests, all genders are welcome. Girls decide to be adventurers and knights and stuff; its not like impossible or anything? Though girls should expect snide comments, some not so ok behavior, and other things!

Can the eldest daughter of a noble family inherit titles and property? Or does it go to eldest son in every case?

I would expect that it depends on said petty kingdom's law of inheritance? Standard would be that all trueborn sons inherit before trueborn daughters.

This seems like it could be fun. What would you say about a D&D style monk as a character?

Also I see elves and humans as playable races. But what about half-elves?

I would say maybe clarify. I mean brawler-monk type thing is doable, but I thought I explained the classes in my write-up tho.

@Quincy

You left it pretty open ended in the write up (at least from my perspective) I can think of plent 'what about this?' questions in regards to archtypes. So i'm not quote clear where I can push and in what regard. Druids? Bards? I have a bunch of questions regarding on magic alone and how that works

I also said best to keep it simple at the start, I think. But planning for brawler is fine. Magic is primordial--elemental of sorts. Demon King ruined that by introducing dark magics. And then angel fell down and boom holy magics. I figured I'd keep the setup very um bare bones?

I know you wanted us to be low-key at the start. but I was also thinking towards the long term and a fun specialization. Gotta have a plan on where to take a character and what not.

And my question on magics was more, how does it work? Especially in regards to the not infernal or holy side of magic. Do you control it innately through fortunes of birth/bloodlines or similar cosmic lottery type of deal? Or is it studied fastidiously in colleges and academies and can be taught to more or less anyone who puts in the time and effort? i.e sorcery or wizardry respectively.

Just trying to get a feel of things for the sake of character ideas. I admittedly no nothing about the animes this idea is based off (or anime in general) and am coming at this with a more traditional sword and sorcery/ mindset. That's why i'm kinda wondering how magic works and what its potential limits are, how spells are cast (magic staves and thespian gibberish or waving hands in the air and sprinkling material components everywhere), etc , etc.

Plans are good.

I think I understand now. As for how magic works -- all I've really figured out is primordial/elemental is the norm, but I figured I'd do what I use to do in my RP chats and make it up as I go along. That's not very smart of me, I guess. But yes, there are academies! My example sheet has mention of magical seminaries and stuff. But magic is more learned than taught. Everyone is more like wizards! Power words, books, and other stuff.

@QuincyIf you could offer the bbcode template for the character sheet, that'd be nice.
