Alright guys, this'll be a short and sweet check because honestly fuck being all formal in ICs. I wanna be pals with the people I RP with, so casual language/formatting just feels more right.

Preferences aside, I've been wanting to do an advanced intrigue game for ages now, but the thing is that I don't have time. And I still don't! But I have time for a Free one. Weird free, though, as I'll be expecting advanced levels of writing in short and concise posts. So proper English skills, colourful language, and *real* characters, as opposed to... shit ones.

I was kinda skeptical of a free intrigue RP at first, but I thought about it more and now I think it's not such a bad idea. You're giving away less info about your plots per post, and you're interacting with more players. In my opinion, both of these could really benefit an intrigue RP.

It'll be set in a post ancient world, similar in nature to how I imagine it must've been after the fall of any of the great empires of history. New Kingdoms rise and fall in the place of older, more advanced ones. People make it their business to study these walls that go up to 20 meters high, when they can hardly build walls three meters high themselves. Metallurgists ponder over why this strange, malformed shiny stuff is harder than their pretty and well formed shiny stuff. Nature is reclaiming the old world, but it's only a matter of time before the new people replicate this ancient technology.

As players, you'll be working towards your individual goals with the appropriate amount of zealous vigor in a semi sandbox world. Kingdoms rise and fall in the span of months, and only the most ruthless survive. As players, you can choose whether you want to play in an established state, a failing one, or a fresh upstart, but that's some time away so let's not worry about that for now.

As a GM, I'll let you do anything, so long as your character has the influence or ability. Can't say the other players will let you do things, though ;)

Let me know your thoughts! RP is a collaborative medium, so I'm more than happy to take suggestions on board :)

I notice this check has a fantasy tag. What level of fantasy do you plan on using?

Mid fantasy, but not Tolkien fantasy. The fantastical elements revolve mainly around what scholars call Enigmas, and fully understanding these. Magic will require both studying and pondering said Enigmas, so basically mages are natural philosophers. How you discover them and what they do... Well they're called Enigmas for a reason ;)
(PM for more info, only mage characters should know anything else)

I haven't considered fantasy races yet, but I don't want Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, Orcs, Goblins, Hobbits, etc., because they're kinda used as a crutch in my opinion.

Overall, everyone has the capacity to do magic, but because of the education, study, and mindset required, it's fairly rare. On average, about 1 in 100 people know a low tier spell, 1 in 250 have 5 or 6 spells at a middling power, and 1 in 1000 are as powerful as what we'd call a mage, with tens of spells at their disposal, some possibly taking days to complete.

What about fantasy creatures? Dragons, griffins, unicorns, that sort of thing.

@rush99999 Oh, good question! So part of what the Old World left behind are these colossal skeletons of all different shapes and sizes sticking out of the ground (No, not dinosaurs). Some theorise that these were left by some kind of animal that had clay for bones. They can range from towering ribcage looking things that tower hundreds of meters high, to fossilised fan like bone structures barely larger than a fingernail.

As for the here and now in the world, there are rumors and sightings of 8 foot monsters with smooth, cracked skin and hollow faces that roam forests, and small dogs with chicken heads and long, spindly limbs. There are other reports, too, but they're less common. The sources for these rumors are credible.

Regular world animals all exist, just for ease of writing.

So folks will be playing nations/peoples that arose from the fall of old empires, left to their own fates, trying to make sense of the ancient world they left behind?

Could be cool - are you leaving it up to the players to create a cohesive history, or do you have something in mind to work from?

Definitely peoples rather than nations. They can play the rulers of nations later on, but unless it's a dictatorship, they'll still have councils/advisors/etc. to run through ;)

A part of it will definitely be trying to make sense of the Old World! Depending on the submissions I get, it'll be anywhere between a heavy focus or a light glance.

And I've definitely got history there, it's just that when the empire fell... well, it fell hard, and very little is left to actually study. Think along the lines of the real life dark ages; we know shit happened, we just don't know what shit.

Play wise, I want it to be heavily intrigue and interpersonal relationships based. The CS will have a 'Goals' section, for players to write compelling goals for their characters to carry out.

I am interested. Do you limit your players to certain races (the old elves, dwarves, etc?). I make my own.

@Arianrhod Sorry if this is disappointing, but try to keep it to human at the moment. Fantasy races do exist, but they're not elves, dwarves, etc.

That being said, if you come up with something exceptionally interesting, I'll be more inclined to accept
