The basic idea for my character is a Dr Jekyll / Mr Hyde concept. I rarely ever run dominant sorts as main characters. But I thought it was time to take one of my characters and give him a dark twist. The character I had in mind is socially withdrawn. Oh, he gets lots of face time with people and does just fine. It is just on the personal front that he avoids people. He does, however, have a very dark period in his life back when he was almost 16 years old. He even died - for all of 1 min 8 sec. Gang related event. Lots of death. Heck, it even made the news.
Now our boy is a genius - like DaVinci type genius. PhD's at 15. Nobel Prizes at 17. Real overachiever. But have you ever watched Dexter? All that violence happened at the end of 10 years of child abuse. Something had to give. Right?
Wrong.
His life took a turn for the better right after the "rough patch". He was adopted by two great, loving parents. Sounds dreamy, huh? Well, it was. But he was left a physical wreck. His adoptive father was an engineer at Sandia Labs (Albuquerque, NM). His adoptive mother ... was a doctor at UNM Medical center.
Now for his mother he decided to attempt medical research. He treated the human body like it was a machine - something to simply repair. His first medical nano was one that "cured" leukemia. (Not a true cure; it just bound up the sites that the disease used to spread.) Then he created a medical nano that could deliver stem cells straight to an injured spot in the body to effect repairs. Then he decided to try to fix himself.
The repair nano worked. It healed his hip, removing his limp. It restored his lung capacity. And it started healing the scars on his back. Unfortunately it started to do more than that. Years of repressed anger and withholding from temptation have surfaced. Now he will NOT mess around with drugs. And he doesn't care much for rape. It was a drug gang that killed his mother, and nearly ended his own life, tried to kill his little brothers and probably killed his older brother. But he might obliterate a drug cartel. And when it comes to women, his alter ego will seek to dominate women, not rape them. He'll want them to want him. So he may try to be charming.
He tends to avoid blondes and hispanic women. Again, this has to do with his past. And he avoids resorting to violence against women of children. He isn’t evil. But he might use some very sinister methods against a love interest’s Ex boyfriends - especially if the Ex was abusive himself. The other guy might discover all his car’s tires flattened. Battery might be dead. But those would be something to do to guys who are working professionals. If they are really bad people, it could get ugly. (There was a vigilante buried in my guy’s psyche just dying to get out - and is out now.)
++++++++++++++
I will effectively be running two versions of the same character. (I may color code my text as to who is talking or thinking.) No, his appearance doesn't change - though he may change his mannerisms and style a bit.
You can run one or more characters. Heck, my character may start to collect a harem. Or you might have some girls who like to share. But a single character is fine. Just tossing out options. His preferences will be dark hair, redheads, and asian. He will also prefer good girls, women with education, athletic … or what most would consider intimidating. Lowlife isn’t his thing. He isn’t into tattoos. (One or two is fine. But a body covered with them is a bit much, and reminds him of gangs.)
Yes, you will need a CS.
