If I had to say something bad about discord, it's that perhaps it makes one too connected. I've recently decided that I'm basically only going to write over the weekends to keep the rest of my week free for other stuff, but I find that more often than not, someone has an idea they want to share with me, or I just find myself rambling to people about RP stuff. It's easy enough to just go invisible, but then that one time you forget to turn invisibility off and people think you're ignoring them when you really are offline. Also, fully turning off discord makes you harder to get a hold of, which was one of the things using discord was suppose to fix.

This is a problem I've always struggled with, but it's a bit worse in the hyper connectivity era we currently live in. That and I'm a co-gm/GM in 3 rps now. Maybe I just need to scale back.

@BrokenPromise sounds like some FOMO shit. Sounds like stuff that is included on every social media (and probably even RPG, as sad as that sounds, lol).

I used to dislike discord, thinking it was a tool that made it hard to roleplay because there was so much chat with no direction, and so much to catch up to if I wanted relevant information. But as I've learned over the year, it was never really discord that was at fault, rather those who use it. Discord, the forum, etc., all of them are tools and it's up to the GMs and players to use them responsibly.

I've had mostly bad experiences with discord and roleplays, but the one good experience I've had has clearly taught me the above- it was the GMs and the players, and probably even myself. Use the tools you have efficiently and you'll have good experiences. It's that simple for me anyway.

@POOHEAD189 Honestly, same. I have no problem with discord, and I primarily use it because that's what everyone else is on. But Skype's biggest edge over Discord is that I don't have to see every random "general-chat" conversation that doesn't pertain to me.

I mean, I don't think I'd count that as an edge, if you're really against seeing 'General Chat' you can 'mute' the channel, then select 'hide all muted channels'. Then you'll only need to see that channel if you're directly mentioned.

I'm not a huge Skype fan but then I never actually used it for socializing, rather for work purposes. I've found discord way easier to use, personally, very noob friendly, and definitely mobile friendly.
