Shinobi Academy, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak

Hatake Toshiro stood in silence outside of the Konohagakure Academy, preparing himself for the celebration that was to come. The celebration of the accomplishments of this generation of students and all of the hard work they had put into their ambition to be officially recognized as genin of the leaf and continue on their journey as kunoichi and shinobi. The only thing he wished would be different was the weather.

It had been raining for two strikes before dawn; a heavy torrent that was as unyielding as it was distressing. The more spiritual denizens of the leaf would’ve marked it as an ill omen, precedence that the new generation of shinobi were doomed, and that the ancestors themselves were making their voice known. These were things Toshiro did not believe. However, what Toshiro did believe was that it was a dour and unpleasant thing that would only dampen his student’s morale, especially those who were already dealing with emotional troubles. He feared how they could be inspired by the promotion when all they could think about was the weather. But worst of all, his students were going to be wet. They were going to be wet and drag all of the rain in with them; rain and mud. The thought of it just made him feel anxious beyond all realm of sense, despite him very well knowing it was ridiculous to be so mincing given his line of work. It was a trait of his that had carried over from when he was an academy student, even with all of the hazing and jokes his friends and comrades-in-arms used to make.

It was like the incident with the Inuzuka genin's dog all over again.

If there was some silver lining to the graduation ceremony it was the fact that he no longer had to dread about Kimura’s canine companion. Beyond light-hearted incidents like that, there wasn’t much for Toshiro to grief over. The students had diverse personalities. There were some who had their troublesome traits, but overall they reminded him a lot of his day as an academy student himself. He just hoped that he had prepared them better than his class had been prepared. That was his nindo, after all; to prepare them for the future that was waiting in the shadows to strike.

As for the results themselves, they were better than anyone could imagine; even someone as meticulous and demanding as he. He was proud of their accomplishments of the entire class doing well and all graduating to genin. He was content that he was a contributing factor for their growth, though he knew their paths following this day were in another sensei’s hands. He had read over the scroll handed over to him by the Hokage’s right-hand agent more times than he could count. More than half the class had been remarked upon by the Hokage herself as ‘exceptional’, a feat that had earned them accolades among the inner circle of the leaf. Whether she would arrive to personally give a speech to the aspiring genin was something she had teased at in her private dissertation. But Toshiro wasn’t good with things that weren’t spelled out for him; so he wasn’t sure if she was going to arrive later in the morning or not. Even as a child Tsugumi of the Hyuga Clan was an anomaly to him and it appeared that fact had not changed in the last twelve years.

He wondered if the jonin she had listed as her choice for team leaders had retained their personalities from their youth as well.

What would the elder council say though?

A wide smirk formed on Toshiro’s face as the thought came into his mind as he began to head back into the building. As a member from the lesser clans of the village there was only one thoughtful reply he could give himself.

Who Cares?

Namikaze Compound, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak

For most shinobi academy students, getting up before dawn seemed like something was unnecessary. The shinobi academy wasn’t a far walk and generally, most students enjoyed getting a full rest. For Namikaze Fukushu it was a normal thing to wake up before the sun reared its head above the village. Also, it was kind of expected of her from her mother. Fukushu still remembered all the times when she was younger where her mother drilled it into her head that a shinobi should be ready for anything at anytime and as such should be prepared before even the sun itself. However, there was another reason why Fukushu was already ready to go.

She was excited.

But then again, what student of the shinobi academy of Konohagakure wouldn’t be on their graduation day?

Fukushu stretched her legs before leaving her bedroom, a genuine smile upon her face as she did so. Not only did she get up bright and early, the day was already announcing itself to be a blessing – a good omen for her spirits and everything she deserved. A rainstorm that overtook the dawn was a sign, acknowledging Fukushu’s prowess with elemental ninjutsu of the very chakra nature she possessed. As far as her perspective went, it was a good day.

Today’s the day. The day everyone finally recognizes me. The day I finally beat my rival and show him who the greatest shinobi of our generation is.

As she moved to grab an umbrella in the entrance hall she noticed the appearance of her mother doing her morning meditation. She was quick to not disturb her as she carefully opened the door, sliding it aside as she looked at the storm outside.

“Fukushu.”

The purple-haired girl paused at the voice of her mother. She had been hoping to not disturb her, after all.

Fukushu's mother, Namikaze Ayano, was a particular woman. She had raised Fukushu by herself for eleven years in Konohagakure with little help from friends and family. She was a hard and strict parent, but she was the only parental figure Fukushu had. As a young girl she had found her mother's discipline tough and unfair, but as she grew into a shinobi she recognized what her mother did was in her best interests. The biggest surprise on this morning was the fact her mother was even awake, considering the fact that she had been generally absent for morning rituals for the last year or so. Her work as an ANBU agent took much of her time, after all. Perhaps this was her mother’s way of recognizing Fukushu’s graduation was important? To send her off with her respect? It was a strange thought, but Fukushu was unsure about what other possible reason her mother could have tasked herself with given the circumstances.

Fukushu turned face, looking to her mother. However, before she could respond she could hear her mother speak again.

“Do your best. Don’t disappoint me.”

Fukushu nodded, “Of course, mother. I won't.”

Before deciding to leave the purple-haired girl decided to ask her mother if there was anything she needed of her in addition to the graduation ceremony. “Is there anything you need from the stores after school is over?”

“Hn. No, I don’t think so, Fukushu. You may enjoy the afternoon to yourself.”

“Understood. I'll see you later, then.”

As Fukushu left there were no more words between the two shinobi. As was their way. Much like any other school day, Fukushu picked up her pace to ensure she arrived at the academy early.

"Fufufu~ All alone, rude little monkey, there's no one to save you now, and after we're done, we'll destroy Konohagakure!" The Evil ninja, with hundreds of lackeys, spread throughout the trees, perched menacingly, laughed down at Asami, standing alone on the forest floor.

"Never! Heroic Ninja Asami will stop you! Five Dragon Armor, Ignite!" Heroic Ninja Asami took a pose, as the flames ignited on her fiery red super samurai armor.

"Then you shall die. BAD NINJAS, ATTACK!" The Evil ninja sent forth his bad ninjas, dozens of whom jumped at Heroic Ninja Asami.

"Five Dragons Armor, Erupt!" Heroic Ninja Asami's armor suddenly had the flames blast up super fast, spinning her in circles and sending a tornado of flames everywhere.

"Oh no, we jumped too close to the legendary Five Dragons Armor, and now we die, AUUUUGGGH." All the bad ninjas who had jumped at her shouted as they burned away to ash.

"Heh, you've fallen for my trap! I've seen through your armors weakness, and it can't be used several times in quick succession. That's why I only sent a few dozen of my hundreds of bad ninjas at you! Wave two, attack!" The Evil ninja sneered from his treetop place, as the second wave of ninjas streamed forward.

"We're not like the chaff that came before, we're not gonna die that easily!" Said the bad ninjas as they fell through the air at Heroic Ninja Asami. "Metal Rain of Explosive Death!" Said the bad ninjas as they all threw throwing knives with explosive tags at Heroic Ninja Asami.

"Form of the Invincible Mountain!" Heroic Ninja Asami counted by transforming into a really big rock shaped like a mountain, and all the explosive tags hit it and blew up and Heroic Ninja Asami was covered in smoke.

"Do you think we got her?" One of the bad ninjas asked the other bad ninja as they finally landed around the smoke cloud.

"I don't know, she did use a defensive jutsu. We'd best walk into the smoke slowly and from all directions with our weapons ready to make sure. We don't want to get taken out like those other guys before." Responded the bad ninja to the bad ninja that asked the question.

"Good thinking. Everybody, spread out and approach the smoke from all directions! With your weapons ready. We won't go down without a fight, like those other bad ninjas before." Said the bad ninja who asked the question. All the bad ninjas drew their weapons, knives and chains and swords, and slowly walked into the smoke.

"Art of Silent Killing! Smoke Hell Murder!" Heroic Ninja Asami yelled as she silently crept up behind the bad ninjas in the smoke, after having transformed back into a ninja instead of a mountain. She had trained herself to be able to sniff out the bad guys, even in the most acrid of smoke with her heroic nose. One bad guy she smacked with her staff, then two with a sweep, then three with a twirl.

"Oh no, we should have known that smoke was the territory of the Heroic Ninja Asami, known for her firepower and skill, and now we die, AUUUUGGGH." The last bad ninja yelled just before he was taken down just before the smoke cleared.

"Hmmph, that was just the second wave, now you face all the hundreds of my bad ninjas now that I know you don't have any tricks left!" The Evil ninja was starting to look a little angry.

"Clumping up was a mistake." Heroic Ninja Asami smugly asserted.

"Oh, and why is that." The Evil ninja looked down on Heroic Ninja Asami.

"I have a Weapon Scroll!" Heroic Ninja Asami unveiled her weapon scroll from her pack.

"What single weapon could possible defeat my army?" The Evil ninja dismissed Heroic Ninja Asami.

"Not a single weapon... The HUNDRED HWACHA ANNIHILATION ARSENAL!" Heroic Ninja Asami dramatically swooshed around her scroll as she spread her blood on it, and in a massive flare of chakra summoned a hundred hwacha.

"OH NO!" Shouted the bad ninja army.

"FIRE!" Yelled Heroic Ninja Asami as she fired all the Hwacha at the bad guy army, who ran around panicking as they were killed by ten thousand rockets.

"Grr! That was still only half my army!" Angrily growled the Evil Ninja.

"It's not over yet, did you think I wouldn't use explosive tags too? Each of the hundred rockets in my hundred hwacha have a hundred explosive tags in them! It's my Million Missile Massacre!" Heroic Ninja Asami made an handsign, and the rockets all exploded the whole forest as the bad ninjas yelled "Oh no, AAAUUUUGH!" and died.

"It's not over yet, Heroic Ninja Asami! I, Evil Ninja, will chase you to the ends of the world, and catch you and punish you for this!" The Evil Ninja yelled.

"You can try to catch a ninja on fire, Evil Ninja, but all you'll catch is on fire!" Heroic Ninja Asami posed for her catchphrase dramatically, before running away dramatically.

~~

It was then that Heroic Ninja Asami did accidentally trip over a stick and fall down, breathless, onto the soft bushy grass of her backyard, tumbling over and landing on her back. Asami stared up at the soft sky, slowly calming her breathing. That was fun.

"Oi, done beating up all the bad guys, Heroic Ninja Asami? You can't leave me here all defenseless and alone if there are any left." Her mother's voice lilted from the house.

"Yup. All done!" Asami continued catching her breath, lying on her back as Momoko cautiously approached the now much less frenetically active Asami. They laid there for a few moments, Asami's eyes closed, but she could still sense Momoko's breath so close to her head. And then Momoko bapped Asami lightly on the forehead. "Alright, I'm up. Let's get breakfast. Mum, is that breakfast?"

"Ah! Yes... Um. A little light meal, don't want you to be too full for your graduation ceremony." Ashi glanced over the mostly eaten food that she had accidentally consumed while idly watching Asami play. "You know, in case there's a surprise test."

~~

Asami, finished with a light breakfast, then trod a path she had walked many a time before, along the way to the Inuzuka side of the family. It was one of those roads that she doesn't remember when she learned it. It was just one of those things she knew, as unconscious as breathing. Her mother Ashi had walked with her on the path so many times before, but now it was Momoko who accompanied her. The monkey scampering along eaves, only to leap onto Asami's raised and waiting hand as the building ended. Soon enough, Asami's eyes brightened as she caught the scent of the Inuzuka compound, a thousand warm scents that set her head abuzz with the memories of fluffy hugs. Finally, she stopped outside the walls, still in the public area, and quietly picked up a rock.

"KIMURA! WANNA WALK TO SCHOOL TOGETHER? I BROUGHT AN UMBRELLA." Asami chucked a rock, aiming to skip it along Kimura's room's roof for multiple clattering knocks.

Yakushi Residence, Konohagakure
Daybreak, Present Day

"Uggggggggggggggggggh. . . Why does it have to be raininnnnnnnnnnnngggggg!!!!!" Bright red eyes glared at the dull gray sky above as it heaped a seaming endless downpour onto Konoha as if trying to dispell the clouds with nothing but sheer force of will. Unfortunately, the clouds remained and rain continued to spill from the sky, ruining her routine. With a sigh, Tsume let the bag of equipment fall to her side with a dull thud, running a bandaged hand through her scarlet hair as she thought of what to do with the rest of her morning. She'd wanted to get a quick bout of warm-up exercises in before she had to attend the ceremony, to get herself all jazzed up for meeting her Sensei and teammates. But thanks to the weather, she couldn't help but feel bummed as she turned away from the doorway to venture back into the house, failing to stifle a small yawn as she stretched her arms upward. "Bleh. . . I guess I can go see if Sawako-san is up yet. . ."

Making her way down the hallway with a hand trailing along the wall, Tsume made her way to her guardian's room, sliding the paper door open to see the woman still laying on the floor beneath a mound of blankets. A fringe of brown hair could just be seen peeking out of one side of the mound, emanating soft snoring as the woman seemed to still be deep asleep. She must've been working pretty hard at the hospital last night. . . The girl wondered, quietly stepping over to the sleeping figure before kneeling down by the mess of hair and gently pushing at the mound.

"Sawako-san. . . Sawako-san. . . Sawako-san." She spoke in an urgent yet hushed whisper, not wanting to disturb her care-taker too much but still wanting to talk to her. After a few minutes of persistent bugging and groggy false starts, the mess of hair rose up to reveal a single half-lidded brown eye staring at the prepubescent girl with an annoyed glare.

"Yes. . . yes, I'm up Tsume-chan. . . despite my best efforts," With a drawn-out sigh, the woman rose up into a sitting position, still swaddled in her blankets as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes before stretching out her arms as she sat up more properly. ""What is it you seem to desperately need me for, my little hanabi?"

"Sawako-san, how long are you going to call me that?" The young yakushi gave her guardian a small pout at the pet name, even going so far as to turn away from her with a huff, though the smile playing at the edges of her lips betrayed her true feelings about the title. "Don't you know I'm going to be a genin after today!! A true shinobi, just like Noriaki-san!!"

" Yes, so you've been constantly saying ever since we got confirmation that you passed the exam." Sawako chuckled as she ruffled the Tsume's hair, who weakly fought her off with weak slaps and laughter. Once that was done, Sawako got up with a groan, likely from the aching muscles that often assaulted her after her more exhausting days at the hospital. Tsume often made her a special kind of tea on these days, she had forgotten about it in all the excitement and as she watched her guardian slowly get up, she couldn't help but feel a bit of her joy fade a bit, though was quick to shake it off as Sawako turned her attention back on her. ""So, what is all the bother to get me up this morning, hmmm? Normally, I'm lucky to catch a glimpse of you these days before you go off to start your little training routine."

The redhead couldn't help but flush slightly as Sawako's voice took a bit of a pointed tone when it came to the subject of her training, wishing that Noriaki-san was here right now. He always knew just what to say to get Sawako-san off her back when it came to her habits now that she had learned to pace herself a bit better, but right now she was all on her lonesome. "I just. . . wanted to enjoy a meal with you, Sawako-san. Ya, one last meal before I become a true shinobi!! Who knows when we'll next get time to eat together when I become a genin!"

""Hmmm. . ." Sawako raised a single eyebrow at that statement, giving Tsume a look that seemed to spear right through her. But there was no way that she could possibly guess tha- "Is that why you're dressed in your training clothes and not the kimono I had bought specifically for this occasion?"

Oh. . . shoot. Tsume's face shifted from one of shock to one of disgust as she remembered the [s]torture device[/i] kimono that Sawako had forced her to pick up a little while ago for the ceremony. It was admittedly rather pretty, Tsume could admit that much, but the way Sawako set it up on her made it feel way too tight and constrictive than she liked. Perhaps waking up Sawko-san for breakfast was a mistake.

Tsume's silence proved all the answer that Sawako needed, as she let out a sigh before getting up, grabbing the rambunctious tomboy by the collar as she started dragging her towards the door. This quickly broke Tsume out of her slight stupor, and as she realized what was about to happen, so to began the kicking and screaming as she was determined to fight putting on that damn thing as much as she possibly could. It was a fight that she knew to be ultimately pointless, but she would never give in to such a fate without a fight.

Tsume once again looked up at the sky with a glare, though this time her gaze was blocked by the taut folds of her umbrella as she slowly made her way to the Academy beneath the pouring rains. She looked down at the fancy kimono Sawako had forced her into, a fiery orange thing with specs of red dancing along the hems. Again, it was pretty, but each step she took reminded her of how restrictive and tight it was around her body. She was glad that Sawako-san was celebrating the event, given her feelings on Tsume's decision to be a ninja, but the redhead wished that her guardian would accept the fact that things like this just weren't for her.

"I bet I'm going to be the only dressed so needlessly fancy today. Ugh, it's going to be so embrassing, and I can't even complain to Fukuchan about it."She pouted, imagining what her noble friend would likely say about her plight. Most likely something to the tone effect of 'suck it up and don't complain'or 'a real shinobi wouldn't be bother by such trivial things'. Tsume loved her friend with all her heart, but she could be so annoyingly practical sometimes. "Uggggh. . . just bear with it Tsume. Soon, you'll meet your sensei, your teammates, and be one step closer to catching up to Noriaki-san and show how awesome you really are."

With a huff, Tsume half jogged-half waddled along the path with renewed intensity, ready to take on the whole of Konoha if she had too. Today was her day, and no amount of tight dresses, snide remarks, or stupid rain was going to put a big damper on her spirits. She couldn't way till she saw Noriaki-san again and showed off her new headband to him. She was certain that he'd be really happy, even if he didn't show it. perhaps she could even convince him to stay and partake in the dinner her and Sawako-san had planned on making tonight(after they finished thier little scuffle with the kimono). "Noriaki-san should just come with me and Sawako-san already, and leave his stinky clan of meanies to be stinky by themselves. . . oh, except for Riachan. Ria's fun, even if she's a bit weird, and she takes me to the theatres every now and then."

And with those little random thoughts, her mind would continue to trail off as she netered a daydream of cool ninja stuff with all her, as well as Noriaki-san giving that mean short Uchiha lady a stern talking too about how he and Tsume and Sawako were all family and were going to start living together and that there was nothing she could do to stop it.

Uchiha Compound, Konohagakure
Daybreak, Present Day

Rain? The skies are crying out because it dreads disappointment. Perhaps the heavens have relinquished their faith in me, Uchiha Ria, the black sheep of the Uchiha and all of Ninja History from present and all generations to come. O thou Rikudo Sennin, have mercy on this child without love, may thou bless and anoint Uchiha Ria the Black Sheep of the Uchiha clan, O thou Rikudo Sennin fan thy paths to goodness and avert destruction before me.

I, Uchiha Ria recited and took out a quote from a religious theatrical play. The original text totally differed from what I have said, I can vaguely remember what it was. Perhaps, I may try one more.....I can just make my own prayer

"My heart is the bridge to my spirit for thy cornerstone fans the flames of destiny

May O great ancestors of the Uchiha guide your troubled descendant

The spring wind becomes a wall of flames eradicating evil. The closed doors of earth open, coming from the deepest of clear waters, the blood presented is as sound as lightning.

I, Uchiha Ria of the Main Branch.

――――I declare."

"You have further impeded my generosity once again, my dear firstborn. Tell me daughter, is this how a Shinobi should be?" My Father, Uchiha Kazuma spake unto me and explained that he had been watching my stupid antics the whole time. He reeked of disgust and anger and above all, disappointment. I thought we just reconciled yesterday, at least that's what I thought but come to think of it it's just another lie through his thick teeth. My father despite being a master of deception has always been brutally truthful in the subject matter of Shinobi.

"Come on Dad whether I become Genin or not, I will surpass Eita--" I thought I was gonna give him an assurance that I will succeed and bring his hopes into reality but I guess I'm once again...wrong. It's almost as if the heavens have relinquished their faith in me. On the receiving end, my father slapped me, at least in his point of view his slap to my face would snap some sense to me.

"I did not ask for your opinion, my dear Ria. This is not the time for you to be acting so typical. If only there is a benefit in your bleak investments of Theater you would have no conflict about your right to rule as the next head of the Uchiha by now nor would you have that impudent nephew of mine treating you like a bitch. Tch.. get that lustrous book out of my face, there is a time and place that I could bend you to feel pleasure but wake up! You, my daughter will be a Genin whether you like it or not, you are a Kunoichi! HOW CAN YOU BE WORTHY TO GAZE UPON YOUR OWN GRANDMOTHER, MY MOTHER, CHIAKI! HOW?!"

Dad seemed to have lost his brains today and I didn't wanna talk back to him.

What's this? As much as I held my emotions repressed, I ended up crying. My mother, Nora caught up with our sermon and this was the day I can never forget. I watched my mother calm my father down and didn't seem to rant against her, it's like a dramatic theater scene where the casts mute their voice to foreshadow something important to the protagonist and her plot. Afterwards my mother and I headed the Academy to celebrate the Graduation Ceremony but my heart felt sadness since Dad promised that we'll be a complete family to watch me graduate.

Family Residence to Training Grounds, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak

It is raining. There is a five-year-old on top of him, and it is raining. Tomoya doesn’t think he has ever woken up so irritated and it’s very foreboding that his mood is sour on such a momentous day like this. Because Tomoya finally made it out of the Academy – he was average in the test, but he still graduated and it’s raining and there’s a five-year-old in his lap.

Tetsu-chan, isn’t onee-chan supposed to be watching you? Despite his trying patience, Tomoya worked hard to keep his tone light lest he invoke crocodile tears from his little brother. Then it would be raining with a crying five-year-old in his lap and Tomoya doesn’t think he’s emotionally mature enough to handle that.

Instead of answering him with words, Tetsuya just shrugged which was basically an admittance to errant behavior on his end – he probably ran away from Kaede to visit Tomoya. If that’s true, then any minute now –

Bam! There you are, you little rascal!

It was too early for this shit.

The door that Kaede had so carelessly slammed open hit the wall with a loud smack! and the graduating Uchiha could see cracks from where the door knob indented the wall. Tomoya wasn’t religious, but he was really thinking about taking it up since everyone talks about how you become more virtuous that way. Tomoya could really use some virtue right now if he was going to not kill his sister.

In one fell swoop, Kaede wrangled Tetsuya off of Tomoya’s bed before the five-year-old could run somewhere else and, subsequently, Tetsuya began wailing with his arms outstretched towards Tomoya. It always broke his heart when Tetsuya gave him those big puppy-dog eyes, seeking for Tomoya’s undivided attention. Tetsuya’s watering eyes were begging for his help against their sister and Tomoya’s heart ached in sympathy.

Tomoya turned in his bed and shut his eyes. It was raining and a five-year-old was crying, but at least that five-year-old isn’t crying on his lap.

Tetsuya’s cries got farther and farther, but he didn’t hear anyone shut his door and that just really pisses him off. If Kaede was going to barge into his room, she could at least close the door behind her. There’s no use getting to sleep now.

Raining or not, Tomoya was going to do his morning training routine. Tetsuya and Kotoe had a bad habit of waking up early, so the older Uchiha siblings took turns babysitting in the morning as their parents slept off their sleepless nights from the nightmare that is the baby. Tomoya’s turn was tomorrow, but maybe he could wiggle out of it somehow – maybe his new shinobi responsibilities would save him.

Tomoya really did not want to encounter his siblings this morning (or any morning really, but especially on a day as sucky as this one). So Tomoya packed his training bag with spare clothes and climbed out of his window on the second floor. Mud splashed beneath him and soaked the cuffs of his pants in an ugly brown color. Tomoya hates brown and he hates ruined clothes even more.

After his disastrous morning, early training went okay enough. The rain sucked, he hated rain with a passion because it hindered his training, but he didn’t fall and sprain anything (which was a major plus). Tomoya did cut his cheek when he was practicing his shuriken throwing; luckily, he always brings bandaids with him, and he slapped that sucker onto his cheek – good as new. Afterwards, the Uchiha changed into his spare clothes – golden, pristine, and about to be sopping wet (Tomoya isn’t pleased) – for the graduation ceremony.

Tomoya’s feelings were mixed when he left the training grounds to head to the Academy. He was excited to be a real shinobi, pissed off his day started shitty, and a bit apprehensive of leaving the comfort of boyhood behind him.

New beginnings, he told himself quietly, time to become a badass.

Shinobi Academy, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak

Fukushu shivered, the rain was cold and it wasn’t letting up as she moved down the backstreets nearing the shinobi academy.

Not that this changed Fukushu’s opinion that the rain was a good omen. How she looked at it was more akin to the omen being a lot like her mother – cold and forceful, but approachable and inspiring. If the last day of being an academy student was without challenge the young girl would’ve been worried.

As the silhouette of the academy came into view, Fukushu’s thoughts were that on her classmates, going through her opinions of how each of them had done the last few years, almost as if she believed she was in a position to judge them and evaluate whether they were good enough to be elevated to the rank of genin. But Fukushu’s arrogance was always one of her biggest flaws; her unflinching views on who should’ve been allowed to graduate with her was just another testament to that. Before she was on the bridge leading to the academy doors she had concluded that the only ones worth the title of genin were Hyuga Hikari, Uzumaki Kiyoshi, Yakushi Tsume, Uchiha Tomoya, and her ultimate rival in that of Sarutobi Seiichi. It wasn’t easy to come to the conclusion that her “sworn enemy” was acceptable, but she could not discredit is skill like she could others.

The consideration of her other classmates was a thought she didn’t entertain, though she did believe they would graduate with her despite not deserving it. Konoha wasn’t exactly known for holding people back unless they were completely inadequate.

As she ended her mental evaluation of her peers, she looked forward to see said instructor opening the doors of the classroom. She was the first genin to arrive. She smiled wider, because of course she was the first. She was always the best and brightest, no matter what others said.

“Sensei! Today's going to be a great day!” She uttered as she moved past him and into the classroom.

Hyuga Compound, headed to the Shinobi Academy, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak
@Raijinslayer

In the case of most aspiring shinobi, the day of graduation is one of the greatest moments of their lives. The first step in their dreams of becoming true ninja, no longer stuck within a stuffy classroom and forced to study day after day, and fully on their way into their future profession. It should’ve been the same for Hyuga Hikari, as she awakened from her slumber early in the morning, preparing herself for the day to come as she executed the motions of her daily routine.

But to her, it was merely another day, which just so happened to involve her graduation from the Academy.
Any other possibility did not exist. To have failed to graduate, to be a step behind her peers, was never an option. She would have rather died on the spot rather than sully the reputation of her clan with such a display of incompetence.

Yet, by the time she had gotten her personal affairs in order, the sun had merely begun to peek over the horizon. So, she utilized the excess time in a productive manner. The wooden training dummies in one of the compound’s many training rooms were implements she was well acquainted with, and her quick, precise movements with minimum overextension belied the power behind each of her finger pokes and palm strikes, faint puffs of chakra exploding outwards with each hit as imaginary tenketsu points are closed within her mental picture of a person’s chakra system.

It wasn’t a perfect recreation, she hadn’t quite memorized the position of the human body’s inner systems to have a one-to-one visualization, but it serviced her well enough as the satisfying sound of cracking wood reaches her ears. Pulling her palm away from the dent she had created in her current target, she released a calming sigh as she went through the procedure of replacing the dummy. Main branch members relied on the lower branch to resupply their tools whenever anything was below a workable standard, leaving many a training ground trashed for others to clean up. But as a lower branch member herself, Hikari was expected to replace anything she broke with due haste, in case any main branch members wished to utilize the training room at any point in time. With how frequently of an occurrence it was for her, the formerly disgruntling act did not bother her as much, noticing that enough time had passed since she began training that the Academy would opening its doors within the next hour or so.

Refreshing herself with a lukewarm bath and a formal kimono for the upcoming event, a thirteen-piece ensemble of white and grey that befits a member of her clan, Hikari bowed towards her parents as she sliped on her outdoor footwear at the entrance of her home. “Have a good day, mother, father. I will return as soon as the graduation ceremony has finished.”

“I will be here to greet you then, daughter.” Her formal greeting towards her parents is responded to just as politely as her mother returned the bow with her own, her father only grunting to recognize his daughter’s declaration. While she did not have a close emotional tie to her immediate family, they had taken care of her throughout her life, and so she found it proper to inform them of her coming and going as to not cause them any undue worry over whether or not she was disgracing the clan with her actions.

Her surface level duties as a child met, Hikari left the building without delay, the branch members guarding the Hyuga Clan district gates recieving a polite nod as she headed towards the Academy. The streets were relatively empty, with only business owners, early risers, and other students of the Academy visible during this time of day. With her Byakugan active, she was capable of correcting her course to intentionally avoid the latter groups, unwilling to interact with her peers before reaching the Academy. A glimpse of Yakushi Tsume causes her to pause, but she continued onwards, convincing herself that she could speak with one of her few acquaintances in length at the Academy.

The same could not be said when a less than desirable person had coincidentally crossed with her path. She wasn’t quite sure what it was that drew her to meet with them, whether it was the novelty of the act, a fleeting whim, or the sharp, curdling feeling one experiences when catching sight of something that they detested, yet the Hyuuga branch member found her feet leading herself to stand before the redhead at the Academy. “Ah, so you’ve arrived. The fact that you possess the ability to pull yourself out of bed and ignore your crippling fear of the opposite sex each day you’re at the Academy is quite the achievement. I suppose congratulations are in order for suppressing at least one of your multiple flaws for the sake of bettering yourself, Uzumaki-san.”

Sarutobi Compound, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak
Interacting with: N/A

The Sarutobi clan was bustling on the morning of the graduation of not one, but two of its member. The young shinobi to be was brimming with excitement. He’d prepared himself for the world that he was entering, steeled himself to live his life for the village and clan. At least, that’s what he told himself. Still, as excited as he was, he was also nervous. He'd hardly been able to sleep; the few winks he had gotten in he wasted with extremely early morning training. He couldn't help it. Seiichi knew that if he was to become a respected member of Konoha, if he was to live up to the legacy set by his father, and his father before him, he would have more than a little work to do. It always began with his morning routine (100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10km run around the compound). Seiichi had worked up quite the sweat with what should have been a small warm up routine to keep himself limber and at the ready, never wasting a moment that could be used to better himself. In truth, that likely did more harm than good. He'd been told many times, by his father even, that overwork was just as dangerous to the budding ninja as under work.

But he could never heed these warnings. He had to work harder. If not for himself then for his demonic aunt who would suplex him if she thought he was slacking, or the branch members of the clan who expected him to one day lead it, or even just to show that he wasn’t top of his class due solely to the talent so many praised him for. He scoffed at the notion. As the next clan head of the Sarutobi, he was determined to show the village what he was truly capable of. And it all began today.

He had just finished and taken a moment to sit on his bed when a lesser member of the clan entered his room. It was about time to get ready, a fact Seiichi knew, though he'd been giving himself some time to think as he got himself dressed. He was dressed as he normally did when leaving the compound:a dark green, short, shirt-like, Kimono with matching pants, mesh armor underneath, visible at the ankles and wrists, and a brown, sleeveless haori with a fur lined trim and the Sarutobi crest over the left and right of his chest. He was fixing his hand guards as he ventured out only to see his father, relaxing as others prepared what could only be a celebration for later on. His father seemed to enjoy things like this on occasion. The older man looked his son over, stopping for a moment to examine his bear fur trimmed Kegutsu. He tilted his head at it, but smiled and laughed all the same. Adorned with his ninja tool pouches and his other gear, the boy seemed perhaps a bit too overzealous.

“Seiichi, you are aware you likely won’t be beginning training or any missions today, yes?” The man asked poking fun as his offsping. Seiichi’s face grew a slightly deeper shade of pink than he had been previously before he cleared his throat.

“W-well father, a good shinobi should always be prepared.” He finally responded after a brief moment.

Until just now, Seiichi had been unsure of how to face his mother and father. Two individuals who had taught him that a ninja was more than just a weapon, contrary to so many other teachings he’d experienced in the Leaf. And yet, he felt silly to have thought they would have been anything other than who he’d grown to admire during his life. Still, the pressure he felt, whether unintentional or not, came just as much from them as it did the rest of the clan, his peers, and his sensei.

For a moment, that was all he could hear: the clan elders, lesser members, even those who weren't shinobi. His accomplishments no longer felt as such. They were expected. Any less could potentially be seen as a disappointment. Failure to live up to them could tarnish his clan, his family’s name and reputation.

"Seiichi!" His father spoke up a bit, pulling the young man from his thoughts. "Being nervous on the day of your graduation is natural. But you should relax a bit." He voice returned to a more laid back tone. "You'll be faced with challenges like never before."

"But your father and I have no doubt that you and your brother will make a fine shinobi." His mother chimed in.

"Push everything out of your mind." Atsuo said simply. "You've worked hard to come to this point. You're ready." Words of encouragement had become his father's forte. It was almost like the man could sense the pressure his son put on himself, even if he hadn't yet worked out how exactly such a thing could be fixed. But then, he was sure the jonin his son would be assigned to could more than handle the situation.

"Yes father." Seiichi finally replied when it looked like his parents had finished speaking. He smiled and without another word, he made his way out of the compound.

Met with the rain that laid before him Seiichi took a deep breath. He had an umbrella in his hand. He wasn't in much of a rush. He wouldn't be late if he kept at his regular pace. Still, as he walked, his smile had shifted to form something of a scowl while he moved through the paths of the village before him. Was this an omen? Rain on the day of this generation of Shinobi's graduation couldn't be a good sign. Although those kinds of things weren't much his forte.

Seiichi arrived at the school relatively quicker than he'd expected. There weren't as many people in the way as was the usual case because of the rain. That helped to make the trip much simpler, if not a bit more lonely. He was quiet as he entered the academy, closing his umbrella and shaking the excess water off before continuing down the hall toward his classroom. And soon, he was there. He wasn’t the first, but having almost been once again overcome with the slight nerves as his mind ran laps around the ideas of omens and expectations, he opened his mouth only once to speak. "Good morning," he said to nobody in particular as he went to his seat. He didn't interact much further than that though, mostly just observing and waiting.

Senju Complex ->Academy, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak

As the dreary rain beat a staccato rhythm against the rooftops of the Senju clan Compound, a young boy seemed oblivious to these sounds from where he sat. Head down against a desk littered with various sealing diagrams, papers, ink wells, and everything else the young Sealing prodigy could need, he lay in a deep but troubled sleep. His features were scrunched, and every passing second brought with it some twitch or low groan, tell-tale signs of a nightmare ravaging his poor mind. So tightly did this terror have a hold of him that even the sound of the rice-paper door sliding open did not wake him.

"Young Master? Young Master, it's time to get up." The servant was a man of elder years, a faithful servant of the Senju. But as he trudged through the mess of seal diagrams, half-opened scrolls, and who knows how brushes, he couldn't help but mutter under his breath about the indignity of the young man put under his charge. With a sigh, he placed on the boy's shoulder in order to rouse him. "Youn-"

The words had barely left his mouth when the boy suddenly jolted to an upright position at the man's touched, violet eyes wide and bloodshot as he brought up a sealing tag before him, breathing heavily as his gaze swept across the room. the servant, for his part, did his best to give the boy his space, knowing how he tended to get after his nightmares. . . though this one must've been rather bad for him to have this kind of reaction.

"Master Kiyoshi . . . calm yourself. It was only a dream." The servant held his hands out, makign sure to make no sudden movements as he waited for the young man to full come wake and come to his senses. The wait was not long, thankfully, as the hazy glare of Kiyoshi's gaze steady after a few blinks, tag lowering back to the desk as he rubbed at the bridge of his noses.

"Yes. . . Yes, of course." He muttered softly, looking down at his work from the previous night with a far off look. Before the servant could deem to try and comfort the boy with whatever words of wisdom he had, Kiyoshi raised a hand to silence him. "It's fine. It's not the first nightmare I've had. . . tell mother I'll be making my way to the academy in a bit."

". . . Do you not want to try. . speaking with her?"

"We both know how that will turn out." A cold reply, with barely a hint of remorse.

"But maybe-"

"I said no!" This time the words held heat, a heat that burned within the violet eyes glaring from beneath a messy curtain of scarlet. "I am a genin now, are I Not? Not a child that needs to hide under his mother's skirt whenever his mind plays tricks. It will pass, like always. So remember your place and do not push the subject."

". . . As you wish, young master." The servant let out a sigh, as he turned away to allow Kiyoshi to get ready in privacy. It was a vain hope, but the old man often hoped that the young master would try to take steps to overcome his trauma. His mother often confided in him how she feared her own child held some ill will against her, and after so many years serving the young boy. . . he was inclined to agree. Even with his unusual fear, his avoidance of his mother seemed extreme. But alas, there was nothing he could do. Trying to force the issue only worsened matters, as the old servant found the tales of Uzumaki stubbornness to be quite true in regards to the young heir. No, the only way this matter could be resolved is if the boy wished for it to be. He could only wish that day come sooner rather than later.

Kiyoshi walked to the Academy in his usual state of dress, with hair a barely combed mass of wild, messy waves, unkempt bangs framing an effeminate face, his small figure draped in a cotton yukata ill-befitting his station but much less costly o replace when it became inevitably stained with Fuin Ink. This morning, a particularly large ink smudge was present on his face, a remnant of the last night's project. He inwardly cursed his inability to stay awake, as he had likely negated last night's progress with his carelessness. Rubbing at his eyes, the boy took his seat towards the back of his room, setting his parasol to the side of him as he took a small scroll from the folds of his yukata. The parasol that he used was imbued with seals to improve its ability to protect against the rain, but still, the young Uzumaki felt a distaste for the weather around. Not only did it make for a poor omen, but it also meant he was unable to work on his seals before class. A truly irritating circumstance.

Alas, the day's irritations didn't seem to end with just poor weather, as Kiyoshi felt a different kind of chill crawl up his spine, a lone inkling that proceeded the coming storm that was Hyuuga Hikari. The branch member seemed to have it out for him for some idiotic reason that he couldn't begin to understand, and she proved a constant annoyance day in and day out. With any luck, today would be the last in which he ever had to interact with the she-devil ever again. That being said, 'interact'would be a strong word for what Kiyoshi did as Hikari stood in front of him.

While the Hyuuga's words flew into one ear and out the other, every step towards him prompted 3 steps away by Kiyoshi, his eyes kept downward as he felt his heart rate quicken in her presence, his breathing growing haggard as he sought a way out of this situation. I should've gone to get Shunpei. . he would be able to fend of this annoyance. . . or at the very least, assist me in facilitating a response.

Alas, Shunpei was not in sight, so Kiyoshi had to make due with what possessions he had on hand. Clenching the handle of his parasol tight, he made to walk around the Hyuuga, offering her no words of greeting nor even acknowledgment of her presence. Honestly, he just wished to be as far away from her as possible. He was hardly in the mood for her games in the first place, and after today's . . . incident, that mood had only worsened.

Inuzuka Compound, Konohagakure
Present Day, Daybreak
@The 42nd Gecko

Inuzuka Kimura’s morning started off just like any other of her mornings, with loud noises, harried shouts, and the consequences of waking up unprepared to a figurative symphony of traps all around her room that she hadn’t placed, herself.

“Wah!” The sudden cry of shock from a young girl filled the room as the aspiring kunoichi, Inuzuka Kimura, dove through the opening connecting the common area of her home to her room, her ninken partner clutched fiercely in her protective grip as the icy blue rattling of metal impacting tatami echoed from her previous spot in the adjacent room. Visibly disheveled and still wearing their respective pajamas, the two stayed perfectly still, eyes and ears rotating around the living space as their noses cautiously sniffed the open air. Well acquainted with the source of their current predicament, the two Inuzuka were perfectly aware of the possibility of an air-based chemical agent being used against them and were prepared to move at the slightest inclination of anything out of place.

After a minute of tense waiting, Kimura’s grip finally slackened, a heavy exhale escaping from her mouth as she rises from the crouch she had rolled into instinctively. Her ninken, however, stayed very much alert, even as his partner voices her relief. “Whew, that was really close, wasn’t it Gureeeeeeeeeeh!”

The moment she had risen to half of her height, a series of mechanisms were set off all at once, icy blue filling the edges of her vision as metal piece after metal piece clanked off one after the other. After a few dizzying moments where the young girl couldn’t tell her ups from her downs, Kimura found herself suspended ten feet off the floor, with the floor beneath her head and her legs bound above her, various pointy metal implements poised to perforate her many vital organs as her ninken growled out in chocolate brown distress, a paw pressed against his forehead. “Huh? But I thought we checked everything already! Did we agree that we couldn’t hear nor smell any metal, Gure?”

“You should have understood by now that I’ve already prepared a counter for such a thing,” the warm yet gruff sulfur yellow voice drew both of their attention as the green clack of wood reaches their ears, the visage of Inuzuka Obu appearing from the shadows as he rests his hands upon his cane, his single leg relieving the weight of his body onto the wooden implement as he gazes up at his unfortunately tied up daughter. “Now, again. You aren’t going to your graduation until your danger instincts have woken up.”

She wasn’t allowed to sit down and eat breakfast until she finally made her way through the onslaught without getting caught or hurt once, taking up enough time that she thought she might’ve missed the ceremony. Not only would the young Inuzuka have missed her chance of seeing all of her classmates together for one last time before splitting off into their respective teams, but she also wouldn’t have had the chance to update her personal info books on them. The last test revealed some information that she’d been dying to jot down and speculate about, but her father hadn’t given her a chance to do so until she’d been properly woken up.

When Kimura looked out the cracks of a boarded-up window to check the time, however, she was surprised to see the sun still fairly low in the distance. How early had her father woken her up today? Sure, he ambushed her even at ungodly hours whenever he felt that she was slacking in her vigilance, but to do so on the day of her graduation… even her father should understand the importance of being there on time, right?

Scarfing down her rice bowl as quickly as she could, after thoroughly checking that it wasn’t poisoned, of course, Kimura’s ears twitched as the sound of a pebble clacking against the roof of their house reached her ears, drawing her father and ninken’s attention as well. "KIMURA! WANNA WALK TO SCHOOL TOGETHER? I BROUGHT AN UMBRELLA."

The familiar pineapple yellow voice of her good friend Asami caused the would-be-kunoichi to perk up and quickly looked towards her father with pleading eyes. The one-legged father scratches at his chin, an unassuming hum rumbling in the back of his throat even as Guremaru rolled his eyes, rising from his doggy bowl to climb into Kimura’s hair, already knowing what answer the man would give. “When you return home, I want you to debrief yourself on any change in her usual attitude and social patterns, understood?”

“Yes Papa! ASAMI-CHAN, I’M ON MY WAY OUT!” Kimura accepts joyfully, calling back to her friend as she ran up to her father to plant a kiss on his cheek before scooping up her ninja tools, strapping various holsters to her legs and forearms and hiding them beneath the large sleeves of an orange kimono with blue dogs prancing across the fabric. The daughter waved goodbye as Gure barked out a promise towards her partner’s single parent, gaining an understanding smile in response before the duo run out to where Asami awaits.

“Sorry, Asami-chan! Papa wanted to play a bunch of games before I left,” Kimura attempted to explain, somewhat out of breath as she came to a stop alongside her friend. The grey puppy laying on her head barked out in greeting to the Sarutobi, but snuggled into his partner’s hair and quickly fell asleep as the trio began to make their way to the Academy. “Aren’t you exicted, Asami-chan? Today, we finally get to become real kunoichi! Unless the graduation ceremony is actually a foreign nation’s attempt to secretly trick and kidnap a bunch of children from Konoha… But I really hope it isn’t that!”

Sarutobi Compound, Konohagakure
Present Day, Sunrise
Interacting with: N/A

The sun light slowly crawled its way across the village hidden in the leaves to awake the villagers. As the sun shined across the Sarutobi Compound, it slowly rose upon the body of a young Sarutobi standing in the middle of the training ground. A young boy wearing only jogging pants and hand wraps that were stained with blood. Sweat rolled down his muscles before dripping to the earth below, staining it with his hard-work. Broken training dummies gave way to the actions that transpired that night. The young boy had been forcing his body to go beyond his limits all night, punching, kicking, and smashing the dummies. Indents in the ground gave way to his training on movement, constantly perfecting his agility as ninjas needed to be as agile as possible. His body was literally a shape in the soft dirt from all the various exercises that he had performed. A standard routine for Atsumi that he almost never missed, his body the perfect display of his love. For a kid his age, his body was ripped with muscle.

"I know you are there." The boy spoke out loud as he wiped the sweat from his brow with a towel around his neck.

"Atsumi, why aren't you sleep?" A female voice spoke softly yet it was still a commanding tone.

Atsumi's eyes met with the woman who had made herself known. This would be the woman that Atsumi called his mother. "Mother, I..." Before the Sarutobi child could finish his sentence, his mother had rushed forward to embrace him like any mother would. She loved to see the hard work that he put in his training but also worried that he was overworking himself to the bone. Atsumi could feel the warmth from his mother and it could only ever comfort him. She pulled away just a bit to look at her darling boy.

"Now Atsumi, you can't work yourself too hard. I know where you train so hard." His mother's words were soft, "You and your brother are my perfect----"

"Don't compare me to him." Atsumi pushed away from his mother, staring at her as if he was staring directly into her soul. His smile transformed into a grimace. "I'm nothing like him." Atsumi made how he felt known as he started a walking toward the inside of the compound.

Hours seem to pass as Atsumi had finally made it to the Academy. His red armor glistened in the sunlight and his eyes darted back and forth as to look for a certain female. Today was graduation day for the young shinobi and he wanted to be around Ria.

Hatake Farmhold, Konohagakure
Prior to Daybreak, Present Day

Among the Hatake there is a saying: "Every storm brings a blessed rain". The stock meaning of the phrase was self-evident, but under the circumstances Hatake Shunpei found himself in today, it could be taken in a much more literal respect as well. The sun was gone, the sky was dark and the rain was falling by the bucket-load, but the clouds would eventually part, the sun would shine again and the pouring rain would feed the land.

...Or something like that.

The deep and esoteric meanings of ancient proverbs were not the most important thing on the boy's mind. After all, he was on the cusp of a great and exciting change: Academy graduation! Unfortunately for his anxious mind, a significant part of "great and exciting change" was "change", and change wasn't always good, like when Fukushu stopped hanging out with him. And that meant there was something to worry about.

Fortunately, Shunpei had felt confident coming out of that examination; although he was no Fukushu or [Insert New Top of Class Here], he was positively, absolutely sure that he definitely passed. So he wouldn't have to worry about that, at least. He'd even made a point of asking Uncle Toshiro-sensei just to make sure, and his very own flesh and blood wouldn't have lied to him... Right? Right? But that begged a question: what if he didn't pass?

And more importantly, what would happen if he did?

Being forced to return to the Academy was one thing, but a genin squad was a whole new animal. He'd be stuck with the same three people, day in and day out. What if he just ended up being dead weight? What if they got annoyed with him forever? What if he wasn't teamed up with Kiyoshi?

...What if he wasn't teamed up with Kiyoshi? There's no way that could end well for anyone!

It was these and other, similar, intrusive thoughts that had occupied Shunpei's mind since he had woken up hours prior. He was used to waking up early though; a few less strikes of sleep wouldn't matter too much. But if he didn't want to think about how everything could go wrong, he had to do something. So Shunpei would do one of the few things he knew how to do well: plant cultivation.

Of course, his personal garden couldn't compare to his mom's or grandfather's. It probably shouldn't even be considered a "garden" since it was just three potted plants. It wasn't even three different potted plants; two were bonsai trees (named Hinami and Hotaru, respectively), and one was a "succulent" (named Mitsuko). But what his garden lacked in variety, it made up for in quality!

After all, farming and gardening, like ninja-ing, was something Shunpei always gave 110% on. It was like the old folks in the clan always said: "Every time you help something else grow, you grow a little yourself." That was probably why everyone in his family was so tall. They were farmers after all.

Though if you asked him, he would've rather grown into a better shinobi than grown a few centi--

'Nononono. Gotta focus!' Shunpei thought, leaning towards Hinami with kunai in hand. Sculpting bonsai was a delicate process, and he didn't want to mess up. There were no distractions here. There was only the sound of rainfall, punctuated by quiet snip!s and falling leaves. It was serene, it was soothing, and for the shortest, briefest period, would abate his anxious mind.

"Good morning Shuuchan, and congratulations!"

The kunai went SLICE! and THUNK! straight through two branches and half of the trunk.

"...Oh. I'm so sorry..."

"...A-Ah..." Shunpei stared at his scarred plant, expression warped into dismay. He slowly reached out and patted her on the leaves reassuringly. Cutting Hinami was unfortunate, but it would be okay in the end--once he got over it. He had cut Hotaru before, and Mitsuko even before that. Although Mitsuko always managed to bite back with her needling. You'd think the cactus was part Hyuga or something.

After a few brief moments of emotional recovery, Shunpei turned to face his mother--because who else would appear so suddenly like that?--and beamed: "Mornin' Ma!"

He quickly noticed that she was staring at the battered bonsai.

"Oh!" Shunpei dislodged the kunai from the trunk before setting it down, "Don't worry, it's-- it's no biggie, really."

Even after a decade of exposure, his mother's sudden appearances still caught him off guard. She had this way of showing up without any warning. It wasn't only him; being startled by Hatake Yumitsu was something of a clan mainstay at this point despite all attempts at remedying it. Apparently old habits died hard for the woman who’d used to be one of the village’s preeminent infiltrators.

"Wait, you're awake now!" Shunpei realized, "Does that mean we can start makin' 'em?"

To his dismay, she shook her head. "I don't think you'll have time enough to make one for everyone," the willowy woman explained, "...Unless... you're not visiting Auntie Nona today...?"

"No way! I mean...Ahh...Not getting to everyone ain't good...but...it ain't right leaving her hangin', y'know? 'Specially like this." He gestured to the inclement weather outside with wide arm motions. Then he let his arms fall limply to his sides. "Hnng...But... It's... I should still do somethin' for today, yeah? S'not every day we graduate..."

Shunpei put a hand to his mouth and pouted, mind racing to come to a decision. All the while, Yumitsu silently stared at her fussing child, expression indecipherable.

"...C'mon." She turned around and gestured for her seated son to follow. "Don't worry about it; I've got a little something in mind. But let's get you all spiffed up, and get some breakfast in that stomach too."

* * *

After dressing up and rapidly devouring a bowl of oyakodon (a meal second only to tempura in Shunpei's mind, but that was hardly suited for breakfast), Shunpei and his mother quickly got to work on the little project Shunpei had planned for today. Unfortunately his original plan--creating food to hand out to all his classmates and their pets--wouldn't pan out given the time constraints. Fortunately, his mother had different idea. They would make four bento for his genin team, and three extra at Shunpei's behest: one for Kiyoshi, and two just in case he was teamed with the Kimura or Asami.

"C'mon Ma, we gotta hustle if I can make it on time!" Shunpei huffed, diligently packing food into neat little sections.

"You want it to be good, right?" she pointed out, "Besides if you really wanted time, you could have woken me up."

"Thought 'bout it, but you're always so sleepy so I figured I should let you get some rest... but good point."

"Oh..." She stopped. "That was kind of you. I really appreciate it."

She looked at him and smiled, but despite her kind words, the expression she was greeted with was not one of embarrassment or mutual beneficence. Instead Shunpei's expression was confusion. For a few moments, they just stared at each other in mutual confusion.

"...Ma." It was the boy who broke the silence.

"What's wrong?"

"We got a deadline! Why'd you stop workin' on the bento?"

She laughed. "Of course, of course. How silly of me... Guess now we'll have to work really hard now, won't we?"

"You bet! But we'll get 'er done."

* * *

In one hand, Shunpei held an umbrella. In the other he held the bento, neatly wrapped in a decorative cloth. It seemed that they did, indeed, "get 'er done"--and on time as well. But there was something missing before he could leave. Something important.

"Where's Pa?" Shunpei asked quietly, only to be met with a tense silence.

"He's...away on another mission," Yumitsu answered. Shunpei couldn't see it since he was busy staring at his feet, but his mother's expression was morose, "He won't be back for a few days."

"It's okay," Shunpei sighed, scratching the back of his head with the handle of the umbrella. His father was an active duty shinobi. He saw this coming from a mile away, but even though you can see a shuriken coming at you didn't mean it didn't hurt when he hit.

"I'm sure Yuudai's proud of you, wherever he is... I made sure to let him know."

"I know..."

"I can wake up Sayuri, if you want."

"...No thanks!" Shunpei straightened out, mind drawn away from his absent parent by the thought of his troublesome little sister. "She's always so mean. I don't wanna deal with that."

"Shunpei... You shouldn't talk about your little sister like that..."

"Hmph. Okay. Sorry, fine. She's still mean though."

"I'll do it..."

"Maaaa...! Please...!?"

"Fine, fine... I won't."

There was a short, but noticeable, pause before Shunpei was enveloped by a tight hug.

"I'm proud of you," she said, stroking the back of his head, "I'm so proud of you. Don't let anyone get you down today, you hear?"

Yumitsu released her son from her embrace and straightened out the wrinkles in his formal clothes. "Now are you sure you don't want me to walk with you and Sanae one last time? You've got a lot to carry too."

"N-No way!" the boy huffed, red-faced. He puffed his chest out like he was a real man and not an 11-year old. "I'm a genin now I can take care of myself!"

She stared at him, completely unamused. She reached a hand out to ruffle his hair and sighed. "O...kay... If you say so Genin-san. Make sure you come talk to me before your first mission, okay? I have something important I need to tell you."

"Can you tell me now?"

"...No."

"Why not?"

"Because it's... a... "big boy thing"."

"Is this the same kind of "big boy thing" that Ria keeps talking about?"

It was at this point that Hatake Yumitsu went dead silent. She took a few long, deep breaths and fiddled with her fingers. "...Please don't talk to me about this... No," she stated flatly, harshly and quickly, "It isn't."

Shunpei was worried now. Apparently he'd mentioned some kind of taboo--which made sense, because according to Uncle Toshiro-sensei, they weren't supposed to know about that kind of stuff yet. "Sor--"

"Don't worry about it."

"Oh. Okay then..."

There was an awkward silence.

"...If that's all, guess I'll be going!" The excited youngster stepped out the door and opened his umbrella. Casting a final smile in his mother's direction and giving a short wave goodbye with his umbrella, Shunpei took off in the direction of the academy. "Bye Ma!"

"Don't go causin' too much trouble for your teammates or your sensei!" his mother called out before sliding the door shut. Finally alone, she sat on the floor and brought her knees to her chest.

As Kimura expressed her explanation for the wait, and expressed her excitement, Asami quickly took up position beside her, holding up the umbrella to shield them both, and of course, their partners. Asami nodded to Gūremaru's bark, acknowledging him with a gentle smile. The smile quickly turned more energetic though, as Kimura's excitement and theorizing rubbed off on Asami and set her overactive imagination alight.

"Ooooh! I dunno, that could still be fun. If we were kidnapped by Kirigakure, we could see mountains, and the ocean, right? And I hear they even have a mountain that shoots up fire from the ocean, called a volcano. Can you imagine how much fire a whole mountain could make? It'd be the best firework ever! FWOOOMF!" Asami gestures wildly with her hands to display what she imagines an erupting volcano must look like, resulting in the four of them getting showered with a little bit of rain before Asami quickly steadied herself and began properly holding the umbrella again. Momoko chittered a little at the unexpected wetness, swinging from one of Asami's shoulder's to another.

"On the other hand, Kumogakure sounds like they have the prettiest mountains, at least from what I've heard. And it sounds like it'd be a lot easier to get down from a mountain than it would be to escape across the sea. Even if it is supposedly so high up that it touches the clouds, I know how to climb, but I can't swim. But wouldn't that be fun, Kimura-chan? Getting to be so high up that you can touch the clouds?" Asami once again threatened to drench the four of them by reaching to the sky, but this time she stopped just shy of moving her umbrella out of the way to reach higher. Momoko had to hang on as Asami's head tilted, but Asami didn't seem to mind.

"The other two don't sound quite as interesting to me. What about you, Kimura-chan, which village would prefer to be captured by if it's all a secret ploy to kidnap us? I know you wouldn't want that, but, which one would be the least bad, for you?"

Ninja Academy

After sometime, Ria made it in the Academy and kept silent for Rikudo knows how long until she broke the dead silence surrounding her and snapped like a twig. Her heart is filled with excitement and stupidly ran across and greeted everyone like the annoying kid she is and patted their backs as a sign of good luck. Ria specifically gave a warm and tight hug to Atsumi considering he along with Tsume is her closest friend and dragged him along with her antics, expressing her joy of graduating.

"Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Everyone we're gonna graduate! We're gonna graduate! It's gonna be a blast right?! RIGHT?! RIGHT?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Congrats to everyone then! Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice! Listen up everyone I am also gonna graduate, I, Uchiha Ria the rightful heir of the Uchiha! So....Do not shut your eyes. My brilliance now outshines even the Sun, but I shall grant you the honor of gazing upon this exalted form. You'd do well to look closely and be sure to fan yourself, you may not take the heat of my overwhelming glory! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Ria started boasting about her prestige and self lauded Fanplay as if her intent was to bait the attention of Kiyoshi if he is present and if not Fukushu whom she looked up to and treated as her "rival".

For sure Ria would have made a such a huge scene with her ego exhibition and she just had to, after all, an Uchiha must be proud of anything they have accomplished. This was one of Ria's daily routines, make noise and get the crowd reject her only to spot a nice Kiyoshi.

"Now now now! This is isn't the time to look gloomy guys! Heck who gives a damn about dying in the battlefield like our ancestors, we are all young and eventually will surpass them! We can conquer anything! Where's that smile on your faces guys, aren't ya all excited to ascend as Shinobi?" Ria may not knew what she got herself into but to even put a shred of insulting remark about Konoha's ancestors may trigger those who are reserved. Again, it was all to bait Fukushu not Kiyoshi, but still having Kiyoshi in her midst would be a wonder to behold! @Inkarnate @Kal-El @Raijinslayer @voltaic

Yakushi Residence, Konohagakure--->Path to Academy, Konogakure
Daybreak, Present Day

Tsume let out a light yawn, the rhythmic tapping of fat raindrops on her umbrella proving an effective sleep-aid for the energetic girl, the dreariness of the day compounding with the exhaustion brought about by her fight with Sawako earlier.

"Stupid Sawako-san, making me wear this tight thing for my graduation. . . I bet no one else is going to be weary stuff like this. . . . ugggh." The young kunoichi groaned in distress at her predicament, feet stomping angrily against the dirt road when she spotted a familiar figure through the rain. It took her a second to recognize them, though once she did, a loud cheer would follow as she jogged over to catch her white-haired classmate in a one-armed headlock. "HIIIII Peichan!! I see you're on your way to the graduation ceremony too, right!?"

Still holding the boy in a tight grip, she looked around, the excited grin turning into a rather mystified look as she released him so they could talk properly.

"Hey, where's the, uh, the redhead that's always stuck to your side like glue? Not often I see ya by yourself."

Outside Kohaku Compound, Konohagakure
Daybreak, Present Day

Hatake Shunpei wasn't unaccustomed to waiting long for his cousin, even in rough weather like today. He'd waited at these gates in snow, sleet, hail, rain, and even a particularly nasty heat wave. The pouring rain, while hardly ideal, wasn't the worst weather he'd ever been in. As long as he had his trusty umbrella, he'd be perfectly fine out here.

That said, Shunpei had often been told -- by the girl he was waiting for herself no less! -- that waiting around here was pointless, but he didn't believe that one bit. There was nobody in the world who didn't want to have their friends around. A life like that would be real sad. But if there was a downside to his morning waits, it was that there wasn't much to do other than, well, wait. Especially now, since he had to carry around a bunch of bento and an umbrella.

Oh well. He could deal with it; Sanae wasn't a lazy bum so he was confident she would be out soon. All he could do, and would do, now was enjoy the soothing sound of rainfall.

Drip.

Drop.

Drip.
"HIIIII Peichan!! I see you're on your way to the graduation ceremony too, right!?"

Shunpei screamed. He screamed, and then he struggled. The umbrella in his hand became a makeshift weapon, uselessly flailing about much in the same way Shunpei did many other physical activities. In fact, it was probably even worse than that considering the umbrella was flicking rainwater everywhere, much less leaving him vulnerable.

"Lemmegolemmegolemmego!" he protested. It was clear the situation didn't quite register in his panicked mind yet. Mostly because of the surprise python grip on his throat, but also because all the noise, both his and the rain's, drowned out everything past the very loud "Hi". "I'll bite ya! Don't me do it!"

His chin rubbed into the arm constricting him. Was he actually going to bite it?

That question would never be answered, as Tsume--because it was Tsume and not a rogue ninja, as he was sure Kimura would have proposed--finally let go. With his air way completely unobstructed and his mind finally clear, Shunpei took a deep breath.

"...O-Oh! It's just you, Tsume. Good... Good mornin'," he breathed, lifting his umbrella back over his head. He was quite soaked after that exchange. He rubbed his cheek and blushed. "You kinda, err, scared me real bad there... Eheh... Sorry..."

"Uh... I dunno. Yoshi's probably there already; don't think he'd sleep through somethin' like this, no matter how late he slept," Shunpei answered, "I don't think he'd wanna be around right now anyway--"

He pointed a thumb to the Kohaku clan symbol on the gate.

"--since I'm kinda just waitin' 'round for Sacchin right now. How 'bout you?" he asked, "How 'bout you? Don't you usually follow Fukushu to school?"
