“That’s...” Aria nodded, looking surprised at Serena before letting out a chuckle. “I thought you were gonna come out with a specific race, and all their handsome features. You think different than a lot of people, huh?” she complimented, with an honest grin.

“Well, I’ll keep my eyes peeled. I doubt we’ll find anyone like that where we’re going tomorrow! Speaking of... let’s get outta here when we finish these. Travelling on a cart with a hangover is not advisable~...”

"Sorry to dissapoint. But love knows no boundaries. Race, place of birth... None of it matters when it comes to matters of the heart." Serena said, polishing off the remainder of her mead soon after before setting the bottle on the ground beside her.

"It's just that, well, Some of the guys I've come across so far just seem to only like me for my looks... And how quickly they think they can get into my pants. Others think they can just tell me what I can and can't do like some possessive slave driver. And you'd know how well someone who can wield a sword as long as her body is tall without hassle would take either scenario. I think I might've busted one guy's fertility completely." Serena said, letting out an annoyed sigh afterwards.

"Anyway. Enough worrying about what could be. Who knows. My special someone could be closer than I think. But tomorrow, we crack skulls."

“It’ll be great! Just the two of us, our gear, wind in our hair, and some unlucky bandit trash~...” Aria agreed, glugging down what remained of her mead. She gave a stern nod as she held the empty bottle up to the fire, looking it over. Honningbrew would be sorely missed over the next few days!

“I hope we find a troll while we’re out there. It’s gonna be real frosty with winter setting in, and their fat makes for excellent fuel for lamps and torches. I haven’t needed to survive in the wilderness for years... Might be rusty, but we’ll manage, easy.”

"Best get our heads down early. Be the last chance we have to sleep in a cosy bed before we take to the field. Guessing Crobalt and Yuki'll be holding down the fort in our absence." Serena said, picking up her empty bottle.

"Here's hoping they hit a breakthrough on your existing problems while we're gone." Serena said, before walking over to the bar and setting the empty bottle down, heading towards the door of the bannered mare shortly afterward.

Aria would follow along, rejoining Serena on the street outside for the short stroll back to the shop. There was a chill in the air, signalling the return of winter.

“I’ll have to grab some more blankets, now there’s two more at home. The payout from a job like this will set us up for all the firewood and kindling we’ll need. At least we don’t need to spend time trying to start a fire, huh? Flick of the wrist’ll be enough.”

She opened the door to the shop when they arrived, waving politely for Serena to go first. “Speaking of our needs for the shop, is there anything you need personally to make life easier or more convenient? I imagine our youngest will hound me for some magic-related equipment...”

"Nothing besides hot food and a roof over my head. I'm used to living with whatever I can get my hands on. Nomadic life does that to a person. Once fashioned a makeshift tent from sticks and a lot of brute force." Serena said, the prospect of routine meals like the one from yesterday making her drool a little as she stepped into the building.

"Though if I'm going to be sharing a bed with your only male worker... I don't think you'll be needing a fourth unless we have a guest." Serena said, before slapping her forehead after realizing the implications of what she just said.

“That... is~...” Aria trailed off, processing Serena’s words, “Not what I was expecting, but if he agrees to it, awesome!” she chuckled nervously. It didn’t seem like the traveller meant to blurt something like that out, but she didn’t try to immediately correct herself either. Aria could only giggle and waved Serena inside, following after her shortly.

“As long as no one wakes up screaming, I’m all good with it!” she said. Sighing cheerfully, she stepped over to her desk to throw her feet up as usual.

"I'll have to check in with him before retiring to bed for the night. As for the no screaming thing, that was probably because I did it without consent and startled him. He must be a pretty heavy sleeper if he didn't wake up from me moving him though." Serena said, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly.

"A little advance warning next time please!" Cronic's voice echoed from upstairs, the lone male of the group presently double-checking the fit of Yuki's attire before she goes to bed.

“I’m sure you’ll be happy to have your bed to yourself after tonight!” Aria called upstairs, shutting her eyes and trying to fall asleep. It was getting easier, little by little... despite learning of her old enemy stalking Skyrim.

Yuki stood in a T shape and followed Cronic’s instructions as he made sure his work was top quality for the young mage. All in all, it was just a tiny bit big, but that meant she’d be well protected from the harsh climate. On the off chance of a sunny day, she always had a shirt under the coat anyway.

“It feels so cozy...” she told Cronic, with a big smile.

Serena let out a yawn, leaving Aria to nod off on her own, before going to check in with Cronic.

"The things I have to put up with from that woman..." Cronic said under his breath as he checked Yuki's outfit.

"Hmm. Looks like I made it a little too big. Flipside, shouldn't be too constrictive, and should do the job it was designed for." Cronic said, getting back up to his feet.

"Well, nothing else for it but to see how it holds up out in the field. I'll leave you be now." Cronic said, turning round to come face to face with Serena, who was stood in the doorway.

"Got a moment?" Serena asked Cronic.

"Thank you!" Yuki said on her way out the door, wishing to give the two the space they wanted. She wondered what Serena wanted, but the girl wouldn't pry. Instead, she'd close her door in the room opposite, and get to bed. Or, that's what you could imagine she was doing - she was actually reading tomes until the twilight hours. Early in the morning, when Cronic woke up, he'd probably find her fast asleep with a book over her face.

---------- The Next Day ----------

Aria, always of the habit, would be up and training out back already in the morning chill. Businesses wouldn't open for hours yet, but the coach would be ready and waiting soon to take herself and Serena across the province, further North into the harsher terrain.

"I wanted to ask if it was alright if I stay with you tonight?" Serena asked, closing the door behind her.

-----The Next Day-----

Sure enough, Cronic was already awake, though still confined to the bed. The reason being that Serena herself was presently using him as a pillow, and was still sawing logs. Naturally he was both bored and hungry as a result.

"Didn't think she'd be such a heavy sleeper when she gets cosy." Cronic thought to himself, wishing he'd had the foresight to bring something along to read until she woke up.

“Serena~...” Aria called upstairs as she strolled inside the shop. She scratched her head after no reply came for a few moments. Shrugging, she went upstairs and knocked on the door twice before opening it slightly, just to peek in. “The carriage will be ready soon, time to get up,” she spoke softly.

—————

The carriage driver was the same Nord man that had helped Aria and Cronic evacuate a target of the Miraak Cult to Cyrodiil. He passed the shop after leaving the Bannered Mare. He had a bow and arrows on his person, ready to fight with at any moment. As well as that, he carried a knapsack over his shoulder, likely packed with a few things for the road, in addition to what was already standard on board the carriage. Skyrim certainly wasn’t safe - but he was ready as he could be.

"...Do I have to get up...? I was having such a nice dream..." Serena said through a mix of groans and grumbling, clearly not in any mood to get up, much to Cronic's dismay as she shifted around to get cosy again.

"...As much as I'd like to serve as your pillow all day, someone's gotta man the fort while you two are gone." Cronic said, clearly fully awake from Aria's perspective, looking at Aria with a silent plea for help.

"...Uuuugh... Fine..." Serena said, reluctantly pulling herself off of Cronic, yawning as she did so, before rolling off the bed and onto the floor.

"...Oh geez..." Cronic said, bringing one hand to his forehead as he finally got off the bed and started to stretch his legs.

Aria raised a brow at Serena as she landed on the floor. She was the heaviest sleeper she’d ever met. It made Aria wonder though, if she was this lazy and, to be fair, happy, how was she without anyone to hold at night? There seemed to be so much to uncover about the wandering songstress yet...

“Heh, take your time getting up. By that I mean, any amount of time under twenty minutes. I saw the carriage driver heading out, let’s not keep him waiting too long. Lots of ground to cover!”

With that said, Aria gave the two a nod and quickly left. She crossed the hall to go see Yuki then. The door creaked open, and Aria stuck her head inside just long enough to see a head of silver hair poking out of the bed sheets. She simply closed the door as quietly as she could.

“D’aww~...” the redhead giggled on her way downstairs, off to grab her gear.

Soon after, Serena stepped down the stairs sleepily yawning, greatsword and bow strapped to her back, with Cronic following behind her, the latter taking up a spot by Aria's desk, the former raiding the pantry for a morning snack.

"Try not to have too much fun you two." Cronic said, pulling up a chair and grabbing a nearby book from the shelf, and began to read, taking an apple in his free hand.

"Alright... Lead the way." Serena said, scarfing down a few slices of bread immediately after.

“It shouldn’t take longer than a couple days, if it’s any longer I’ll write back with the details,” Aria said to Cronic as she stepped out into the dawn. “Don’t knock the place down while I’m gone!” she chuckled, starting off down the road. She had a bag of some supplies, her usual gear, and her sword. Marksmanship was never something she picked up on, so it was very beneficial to have Serena along.

After the two exited the gates, and headed down past the defences of Whiterun, the carriage driver would be ready, waving a hand in greeting as the women left the hold capital.

“I love trips like this... We can get to know each other, and see each other in action. Looking forward to it!” Aria spoke happily as they approached the carriage.

"I'd be more worried about Arcadia's place if I were you. If anything's likely to burn down, it'd be that because of one errant mixture." Cronic said before Aria left, returning to his book.

---------

Serena said nothing in response to that, simply letting out a yawn as she tries to wake herself up, lazily hauling herself into the carriage. Once she'd settled down, she slapped her cheeks a few times, before running an inspection on her gear.

"I'd be more worried if I haven't woken up fully in time, if I were you... I'm more likely to put an arrow in your butt than I am to actually be of use."

After Aria climbed in and took a seat, she tossed a bag of coins to the driver, who caught it and nodded before getting the horses moving. “Alright, it’s out by Riverwood isn’t it?” He asked.

“Yup,” Aria replied, “You can leave us there, we’ll go the rest of the way on foot... So, the contract is actually active across all the Holds - apparently the fort we’re headed to isn’t just a home to bandits, but a place they strike out from, it’s rumoured to be a bigger operation than it looks on the outside.”

The driver shrugged, “I’m sure you’ll both have fun with all that. Tell you what - I’ll take you closer. Might even be able to keep some of them busy.”

"So we take this place out of commission, it basically hinders all bandit activity across the holds. Naturally that'd mean, since it's essentially a vital point of their operations... It's going to be crawling with Bandits." Serena said, sharpening her sword once Aria had explained the lowdown on the place they were going.

"A literal hive of villainy. Full of scumbags that won't be missed if someone left them as fodder for the birds. Guaranteed to be a hell of a fight with just the two of us." Serena said, gazing up at Aria for a moment, and for a moment she could see a flash of anger in her eyes.
