Okay, I'll show you the basic premise what I had in mind and let you tell your opinions about it before starting:

Strange Holes/Gates appear across Westeros, leading to other plane(s), Faerun, Eberron and/or some original world. The story could be about the confusion of the first days of the reveal(set at the end of Robert's rebellion), or years later when things have normalized and many adventurers have tied themselves to the Westerosi Houses, and politics have turned interplanar(start of canon or maybe the War of the Five Kings).

My candidate for the original world, where the holes lead to is Dungeon, a seemingly endless subterranean world full of strange lands called Gates, each of which has its own "theme" (Bridgegate is a land full of rivers, where Trolls control a bridge network, Chivalrygate is something straight out of Arthurian mythos, Wintergate is a land of endless ice and snow, and so on.).

I'm not the most familair of Game of Thrones when compared to Eberron and especially Faerun. I played, read and watched most contents related to Faerun. But this could perhaps play well with a character from Faerun who is introduced to Westeros. But I would most likely will have some questions on how things are and work in Westeros, in and out of character. If you have any links that you think would be great source of information that relates to this campaign, that would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

The original world idea does sound fun since unlike the other pre existing settings, these worlds sound like a nice fun treat to be surprised and venture in.

But again, I just feel concern that my lack of knowledge with Game of Thrones may hinder progress of the campaign as I would have to spend time learning about it while being busy with irl work.

Another question I would like to add is how should we determine our ability scores?

I haven't thought any specific level. I'll ask if you have any wishes before deciding anything. But I think something less than 10 would be good.

Speaking of levels, one possible idea I had in mind was that experience can only be gained in dungeon or wherever the holes lead to, because Planetos doesn't have enough magic. But whether or not we use it is up to you.

Speaking of levels, would you like to use actual experience or do I level you up periodically in appropriate situations.

Lack of knowledge won't be a problem. Your character can be someone who is new to Westeros, who arrives there for one reason or another (maybe to look for fame and fortune, escape from trouble or whatever)

I have also a thread where I've been building this setting myself (I'd be running this game partly to get rid of writer's block). Do you have an account at AlternateHistory.com?

But even if you don't, I can tell you this setting won't follow the story to the letter, at least if we go by "years have passed". Details I'll reveal later. And if we go by the "start of it all", you'd have basically ended up in Planetos by accident, so not knowing the setting shouldn't be too much of a disadvantage.

I too find myself more interested in either doing something within Faerun (much more familiar with it) or original world.

Specificaly, I like the holes that leads into different types of worlds, all in a dungeony feel to it.

Also, We will be working with 5e?

By the way, shall I describe any details of the Dungeon or how different Planetos looks like in "Years have passed" scenario? I mean, I will when I post the RP and these scenarios are chosen, but would you like to read about them here and now?

If you want a second or third "table", I'd be willing to DM 5e. Currently, I'm DMing a weekly group of four for Ghosts of Saltmarsh IRL (their party is only level 2 though). As long as I have whatever module it is on DNDBeyond (I have the DM tier subscription), I can DM it.

I am actually interested in the Ghosts of Saltmarsh module. I read a bit of D&D UA about sailing and sea, which really got me excited to hear that they would actually make a module. Not sure if they would put the UA info into this module.

Nonetheless, I'm interested with the module. But I thought it hasn't released yet?

I thought you already had at least 2 DMs? I was thinking I'd just run whatever scenario the primary DM ran, but for another table, with different PCs. Ghosts of Saltmarsh is like the newest of the new; I only have it because I pre-ordered. It's quite challenging for newbies.

I make no guarantees for either my activity or a start date. I have a preliminary appointment to have my wisdom teeth removed next Monday, not knowing when the date of the actual removal will be.

It's a little weird, actually.

There's a bunch of folks here who know how to DM, but there was no real desicion who would do it, and there aren't so many players that an extra DM would be needed. I simply stepped forward with my campaign, though I was ready to use another one if players wanted, in this case Ghosts of Saltmarsh.

Although, if I'm still the DM, I have to tell ya that I have no idea where you can find Ghosts of Saltmarsh.

I do have some other ready-made campaign books though, like Tyranny of Dragons and Elemental Evil...

Since some of us are new, it would probably be best if we start at a low level. Preferably I like starting as low as 2 or 3. Level 2 is because it gives player a bit more options to do, get a sense of the class before some classes choose their sub class, and level 1 I feel player characters could easily die if not handled well. Level 3 is when all classes have access to choose their sub classes.

A module for a lv 1-5 campaign that I'm the most familiar is Waterdeep Dragon Heist. Takes place in the city of Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realm setting. Has many factions and characters that players could try interacting with. And generally feel it has a good introduction to D&D. I would like to say that I could try running it, but I am busy with irl work, although for a post by play, it could give players enough time to post before I continue the game. But still, felt like stating that now.

Between Tyranny of Dragons and Elemental Evil, I would like to try Elemental Evil as I have heard Tyranny of Dragons can be quite unbalance as 5e was recent when it came out.

I feel most portions of the game that have maps, I could still detail them enough in a post to convey the area. But I feel it taking place in such a large city and things to do in there, I think it helps to make a play by post RP easier. It is when combat occurs and depending on how many people are involved, I may need to create a map here to easily show where everyone is.

When a combat starts, I'll roll everyone's initiative, then I will group the average of the player party and enemy party to help decide the turn order. That way with the players can act as a group than in a queue. That and you players can post when you can than waiting for someone to post and move the turn. I would wait at least a week for player to post what they did on their turn before doing the enemies turn, but if everyone does it before the week ends, then I may post early.

Also I am not an encyclopedia with forgotten realms. The most I know are from a few Drizzt novels, a few modules and live streams that take place in the setting. But the Waterdeep module does have about a 25 page details the city and more pages outside of that still lend some extra information if needed.

If we decide to do this, I would start everyone at level 2 than 1 for reason mentioned in my previous post. This module has leveling based on the progression of the chapters. For this campaign, I would prefer if people created characters based on official or UA materials released from Wizard of the Coasts. But I am open to other ideas, but let me know first and I'll decide if I would allow it. I have been using this site for creating characters if anyone needs help searching for a collection of character creation stuff.

Another question I have is how should we handle our character sheet? I've seen some people use some online resources, but I haven't used them before and thus not familiar enough with them. Or are we just going to create a template here on the site for players to use and update?

But as @Chiro mentioned, there are a few of us have with some experience of DMing. I just feel like sharing my knowledge and ideas when DMing. But it feels like we should come to some decision of the setting and who will DM. After that we should probably move this to a new thread with these decisions made.

Mostly inexperienced when it comes to rping. Have played Eclipse Phase. Tendency towards quick pick up of rules. Looking forward to playing some 5e. This still open?
