So after Exodus came out, I played the shit out of it. Once I beat it I replayed the others, in an attempt to quench my Metro thirst. This thirst has yet to be slated, and so I am now trying to start an RP based on the series. This could either be all in the metro tunnels as the first two were, similar to Exodus in where we travel above ground to various locations, or a combination of the two. I have no particular location in mind for a setting as of yet, so this would be something we could all talk about.

TLDR; All aboard for a Metro adventure!

Could be interesting. I'd rather not do it in Russia, since that retreads familiar ground, but it doesn't much matter either way.

Definitively interested too. I also share the sentiment of not setting it on Russia... What about London?

Good thing Australia has no Metro system (to my knowledge). Imagine the mutants there.

Sorry about my absence there people, had a bit of a health issue which landed me in the hospital. That said, I'm back now. I'm glad you're all interested, and I can understand not wanting to do Russia, seeing as the three games covered that pretty well, though we'll still need to decide if we're in the metro tunnels or if we're following an exodus type story.

As @FoxFire said, what about London? Big metro system to work with, with the potential for fuckery that may lead to trying to cross the Chunnel

London could certainly be interesting. I'll need to look at the map of their metro system myself, as well as local fauna which may have mutated.

EDIT: I've found a map which shows the lines that are in tunnels. From what I can tell, any lines with gray bars surrounding them are underground.

For those who would like to see a geographically accurate (if a few years out of date) map, here's a pdf of one. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/224813/response/560395/attach/3/London%20Connections%20Map.pdf

EDIT: Upon further inspection, most of the underground lines are barely below the surface. The Tube does have deeper lines but they appear to be only the newer ones.

Loved the books, loved the games - I'll have a one way ticket on this metro please!

Shit, glad you're OK.

About the depth, that's an odd one. VDNKh is 53 meters underground (just 5 meters less than the deepest one in London IIRC), but two of the stations making up Polis are 12 (Lenin's Library) and 8 (Aleksandrovsky Sad) meters deep and people seem just fine there.

London may lead to some problems weapons-wise, though it would leave room for a lot of metro-made stuff.

As for animals, There seemes to be a lot of foxes there even deeper in the city, though I've only been there twice.

I'm doing fine now, thanks for the concern. I suppose if Polis is only that deep then the London tunnels would probably be safe, but the other issue is that according to that map the tunnels appear to resurface in a few places, even along the Circle line. I'm not exactly familiar with the layout of London so I can't confirm this one way or another, though if it does we could just say it's AU, and the underground lines are only underground, unless they transfer to an above ground line or something. And I doubt the Tube has blast doors like Moscow's Metro, so those will likely need to be added as well.

As for weapons, a majority of the weapons in Metro seemed to be hand made. The only pre-war weapons were the AK47, the Kalash 2012, the VSV, the Bulldog in Exodus, and the Saiga-12. All the rest were made from scrap basically. I believe the brits had their own assault rifles to replace these though. In a world where nukes were launched, I'm sure London probably had some kind of military presence protecting it, and thus some military grade weapons and ammunition.

Foxes might be a good start. I'll need to see what else there is.

Hey.
So I see you’re thinking of doing this RP in London, just wanted to say that I don’t think that it’ll work very well.
The reason why metro 2033 worked so well was because it was the underground in Russia, considering most of their major Underground’s were built to double as nuclear shelters, as backed by the hermetically sealing doors in most stations.

London’s tube network is much older and doesn’t have nearly the sophisticated defences in place that Moscow’s did, the lack of hostile wildlife (bears and wolves) and without a doubt the lack of guns or ammunition would make it really difficult to work well.

This is just in my opinion of course- but if you wanted to do somewhere else- there’s St Petersburg, that has a similar construction to Moscow’s metro and the same goal in mind, as well as being mentioned briefly in the books.

St. Petersburg would work, though a cpuple of people would like to avoid setting it in Russia. If we were going to do London, we probably would need to say it was an AU, and say the tunnels were built in a manner similar to Moscow's metro. In all honesty that's probably what we'll need for any setting other than Russia, or perhaps Pyongyang's metro. That system is only like 22km or something though.

Oh yeah if we’re doing an AU I’m down for that, I was just talking about the actual construction of them.
Still my personal preference would be the actual Metro, especially since there Are parts of it that have remained unexplored in the current media available and are ripe for some interesting work.

But yeah London’s metro gives us a lot to work with.
I suppose we could fill in the local wildlife by saying some creatures evolved from animals that were in Zoos?
To give us a bit more in terms of variety and working space.

Also we could have Britain’s stance in the Cold War to be far more allied with America?
Basically making it a two v one scenario, meaning that there would be far more in the way of military installations and funding to aid with having a larger pool of weapons and ammunition to go around.
As well as that Britain would have acted as a forward base for the US allowing for a larger variety of arms.

You have a point about the military presence, I forgot how many wrecked T-90s there are in Novosibirsk. Brits use L85s among other stuff, which is good since bullpups are great in close quarters.

London's underground is apparently longer than Moscow metro, too, though that includes the above ground lines (and since we're strongly considering an alternate reality, those may not all be above ground). Length-wise, New York might also work should London fall through (Orange = underground).

Unfortunately only about 45% of London's rail system is underground, so the size of the underground metro would be about half the total length of Moscow's. In any case, I think enough interest has been gathered to open an OoC, so I'll likely be doing that later tonight. When I do I'll be tagging everyone to make sure you're all still onboard. Once we're in there, we'll be able to hash things out a bit more in depth. Honestly though, I'm currently debating saying all the lines are underground for London's metro system in this AU. It would make things much less complex.
