Sorry about the lack of activity yall, its the end of the school year so that means nothing but big tests and projects. I particularly am a little burnt out when it comes to writing. So this might be on a slight hold for a bit, but I promise i'll get back to it and post the real thing as soon as I can find the time and motivation.

@ReveTheDreamer I see you've put this on hold and that's totally fine, whether or not it starts up soon (and whether or not I actually join by then, haha) I'm creating a character, and I have a few questions regarding that. No rush, though; I don't need answers right away!

Firstly, you said in the OP that the disease's progression is accelerated by things like anger, hunting, and survival instincts. Is there anything that can actively slow progression? Also, forgetting acceleration, roughly how long does it take for the disease to progress all the way to beast-mode? Months? Years? How many?

Regarding a character, I'm thinking one who's been living in Deadware for some time now, is somewhat more progressed in her disease than the rest of the cast and took on a sort of alpha for the existing residents of Deadware. Experience in animal behavior as well as her more progressed status has given her a knack for catching the attention of fellow infected and exerting some measure of influence over them. I'm going for the type of person who commands respect, and who others kind of want to follow. Is that a sort of character that could work here?

Without any significant acceleration, it'd take several years, at least. But most of the time, especially under the conditions in Deadware, it takes less. I'm still working on my other character who has been there about two years if I remember correctly, and she's at the stage where like she's starting to show more advanced transformation, like with her ears and such. As for specific timelines, my brain doesn't really work that way, haha, especially since it really varies. If your looking for someone with a more advanced stage of the disease who has in the past been pretty stable, its in the range of years, about 2-4 depending on exactly how far you want the progression to be.

And I don't particularly like the idea of an "alpha" - your character can have leadership qualities, but I want it to feel more family-like and communal rather than introducing like a power dynamic in there. You can have someone who seems mature and respectable, but nobody should feel compelled to listen to them if they don't want to. Does that make sense?

@ReveTheDreamer That's fair enough. The character I'm designing is kind of like a mother figure, but the kind of mother you don't want to piss off unless you want an ass-whoopin'. I'm thinking she acts as a sort of mentor to new people, helping them cope with their disease and slow its progression by adhering to a lot of exclusively human mannerisms (discipline, schedules, communication, keeping emotions in check, etc.). No one would be compelled to listen to her, but I envision her as the type of person worth listening to, if that makes sense. She has a group of people who associate with her because they value her leadership of their own accord, but there are lots of people in Deadware who don't. She wants to help people, and doesn't want anyone causing any more chaos than there already is. Of course, if you still don't like it, that's fine.

I was thinking she'd been there about five years, could bring it down to four though. She's been able to slow her progression through methods like the ones above, clinging to humanity and doing her best not to succumb to more basic impulses. I'm looking for someone pretty significantly progressed who hasn't lost their human rationality yet, but is beginning to grapple with the occasional lapse.

@Obscene Symphony That sounds perfect to me! I think based on that description she'd get along well with my second character, who is similarly motherly. I still have to finish her form, but I haven't had the time with all the essays i've had to do for schools haha.

and yeah, 5 years is totally fine, like I said I don't have a very firm grasp on specific dates so if thats what you feel is good, then go ahead.

Interested,

Can I have a non-infected person who voluntarily entered.
Perhaps looking for someone, a gf or something.
The character I’m envisioning isn’t gonna do to well once infected.
Short temper and headstrong.

@Dark Light Thats an interesting idea for sure. I don’t think you can just “voluntarily enter” deadware however. If they managed to sneak in though, i’m all for that.

The main question I have then is are you playing the gf, is she just kinda an NPC who doesn’t actually show up (too far gone, killed by someone else there, ect.) or is someone else going to play her?

Was thinking maybe he used to work on the wall, or escorted people in. Knows a bit about the layout (and horrors) of what goes on. Used that knowledge/ connections to sneak in.
I won’t be playing the gf (initially anyway) I don’t mind if someone else wants to other wise she will start as an elusive npc who he is always one step behind.

Don't mind how new my account is, had to remake it seeing as I've been away so long I forgot my login.

Had a basic character idea involving an old man who has been part of the town since nearly the beginning, (depending on how long that would be) and is frighteningly far into the whole transformation thing, but still retains enough of himself to interact with most folks. Essentially the whole "Old man too stubborn to die" trope in the vein of Bill from L4D. Just, his outward attitude makes people surprised at how he survived this long, but on the inside he is just like that grumpy dad who loves the dog he said he never wanted and still says he hates it even though he spoils the pup rotten. I have other ideas in mind but this caught my attention.

Hey man, this idea is SUPER cool. I was curious though, is lycanthrophy in this just how it's usually seen in movies and tv? I might've missed your answer to this question if someone else asked it. :P

@Dark Light Oh yeah! I really like that, go for it!

@KiwiTime Thats an excellent concept and i’m 100% here for it. I cant wait to see your character!

@MK2 I’m not sure how to answer this because i don’t really know what you mean? Could you please explain “how its usually seen” because I honestly don’t watch nearly enough movies/tv to understand what you mean.

@MK2 It's explained in the OP, but the gist is that you don't change back and forth, you just slowly change over a number of years until you're more monster than human. A more detailed description is in the first post of this thread.
