How long do I usually write?
I write two to three paragraphs per post; more if I have the energy.
Do you enjoy writing collaborative posts for things like conversations, combat, etc.?
Honestly, I like doing my own thing and letting other people react accordingly. I'm prepared to allow godmodding of my character by someone else for the sake of mutual convenience.
Is grammar and depth of writing important to you?
I shall perform the street dance of grammar and flow to the best of my ability. *dab*
Are there any writing subjects you particularly enjoy exploring?
Space, ships, guns, back room politics, and dire straits.
Is there anything you really dislike and want to avoid like the plague?
Sappy romance.
Is there something you are uncomfortable with happening to your character?
No disintegrations! Kidding, I don't mind if his ship gets blown up or something. A lot of my characters end up dying horribly for various reasons. Muhahahaha!
Do you have any short-term or long-term goals with this character?
I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-trousers kind of fellow.
Derv definitely wants to transition to starfighters over troop transports though. Seems like a good goal to me.

Detailed appearance:
Derv Brovan stands at an imposing 6'4" softened somewhat by a beanpole musculature. His jet black hair, cut to military regulations, and light black grizzled stubble (nobody's perfectly shaven), and dark brown eyes complete his general appearance. The eyes are red-rimmed quite often when he's on land and surrounded by excessive pollen that irritates his moderate allergies (for which he needs to take daily medication to alleviate symptoms). His ears are somewhat larger than average, but lay flat against his skull. His nose appears slightly pinched.
Report on skills and talents, including level of skill
Dervan Brovan is identified as being right hand dominant. His vision is an impressive 20/15 which makes him an excellent candidate for piloting. He has tested negative for Force sensitivity since testing began during childhood. His piloting proficiency level is deemed to be near readiness for solo flight. His academy CO has recommended him for graduation from the academy as well as to be put on the active duty naval roster for his first assignment in a non-training capacity. His psychological profile is consistent with that of a young, indoctrinated soldier loyal to the Empire. He does, however mysteriously, retain a debilitating phobia of mynocks. This is only known irrational fear, and - while it shouldn't come into play all that often in the line of duty - is notable enough to be taken under advisement. Subject may need psychological conditioning to forcibly remove the fear by any means necessary.
Derv excels at starship marksmanship (first in his class in trials testing precision and speed). His overall piloting, while second in his class, still boasts an exceptional reaction time of 0.19 seconds to a visual stimulus. His marksmanship in field testing is above average as well, although his interests and training make him bound for space
Report on known combat experience, training and weapons training.
Dervan has been trained in the standard Imperial procedures regarding fighter piloting, freighter piloting, advanced physical fitness, low-G, high-G, and zero-G flight, and basic weapons training and maintenance in the following academic environments: ground-based, starship-based, starfighter-based. Lastly, he has received basic training in ground troop movements and landing zone procedures as it pertains to his job in troop transportation.
Report on role, specialization and responsibilities pertaining to the subject’s military deployment.
Subject has shown an interest in starfighter piloting. Imperial Command is assigning him to troop transport piloting for the time being, given Dervan's propensity for nationalistic zeal in combat simulations. Recommend that he stays away from starfighters until his current CO concurs that his psychological profile remains stable enough for following orders during intensive combat flying.
Detailed notes on political influence and associates.
Dervan has no known associates (yet), and has expressed no public interest in making friends with other squadmates, fire team members, or academic peers beyond a professional working relationship. This may change as he ages; be advised.
He occasionally sends letters to his aging father; however, his father usually is either late in replying - to which he says "proud of you, but you could be better" or something of that ilk, or he doesn't reply at all.
Detailed notes on known rivals and enemies, outside and within the Empire.
Dervan Brovan has no known contact with anybody outside the Empire. As per usual, his communications - like that of all cadets, privates, and crewmen - are closely monitored for the purpose of ensuring his continued loyalty.
List and description of other known associates, including subordinates.
- List subject to update with rank increase and military assignment.
List of known all ownerships, including vessels, non-standard equipment, slaves and locations.
- His family owns one slave, a royal blue Twi'lek (known but not referred to by her first name of Shyla, imported from Ryloth to care for Dervan's ailing elderly father.
- He is set to inherit his family's estate, a small two-story detached house located on the outskirts of Dromund Kaas City, upon the death of his last living parent, Reginius Brovan.
- No owned non-standard equipment on his person.
Psychological evaluation of candidate.
ESFJ-A
Subject has a complicated psychological makeup that combines a mild satirical sense of humor, without being disrespectful, with a strict adherence to and sense of duty. Dervan will follow orders regardless of whether he agrees with them or not. As far as we in Imperial Intelligence can tell, the subject was not subjected to any emotionally scarring environmental factors - save for a few physically scarring endeavors involving tree climbing and one count of speeder racing as a minor (which was paid off with eighty hours of community service). Thus, we believe that Dervan shall continue to behave in such a manner as befitting an Imperial pilot. He has yet to experience a direct encounter with the Republic, so he is still to be monitored.
Dervan can be described as fun-loving, a classification that some lesser species might even call a "flyboy". He lives life in the present, regrets very little, and pays as little attention to mistakes as possible - only using them to improve. He does seem to be a bit flawed when it comes to capital ship simulations, command simulations, and scenarios where he is the sole representative of the Empire in an area. Case and point, his lack of diplomacy skills - aside from bedding overly willing females of his species - is a serious flaw that should be taken into consideration before he is ever promoted to a position of command. He does not argue, but he is a man who knows what he wants, when he wants it, and that sort of personality may clash with other superiors of the Empire as well as upset diplomatic relations with other entities. Finally, on this point, he is also becoming slightly arrogant about his own abilities, although this is dimmed somewhat by his general good-natured, optimistic outlook on life. This may change in the years to come as he gains experience.
Dervan is extremely competitive with his peers; to the point where he pushes people away as friends because he sees them as threats to his goals. Had he turned out to be Force sensitive, Dervan might have possessed great potential as a Sith Lord if not for his willingness to help squadmates in trouble. Although he demonstrates loyalty, a competitive drive, and passively avoids frivolous relationships beyond one night stands, he definitely lacks blood-lust and ruthlessness beyond following his training to kill that which is designated by his commanding officer(s) as the enemy.
List and description of known and suspected flaws. To be put into restricted database.
- Mynockphobic
- Arrogant
- Overly competitive
- Serial womanizer
- Allergies
- The beginnings of mild alcoholism
Known interests of the candidate.
Dervan is known among his peers for enjoying starfighter piloting, maintenance and upgrades. He has a reputation for going to unsanctioned parties, although has recorded no official disciplinary strikes from these outings...yet. He also enjoys attending Imperial sanctioned festivals, holidays, and academy events.
When questioned, the then student responded to inquisitors saying, "If it involves space, dogfighting, parties or liquor, then I am all ears. If it involves all four, I am diving in headfirst." He quickly corrected himself to say that he'd never imbibe mind-altering substances - liquid, vaporous, or otherwise - before, during and even sometimes after work.
Major achievements on record:
- Graduated second in his class at the Dromund Kaas academy in piloting.
Major failures on record (confidential):
- Failed, and had to retake, an economics class and a species relation class. Student initially expressed sympathetic interests in some aliens. At least overtly, these interests appear to have been effectively quashed. Continued observation is recommended throughout his career.
Personal biography, as detailed by the subject for use in imperial archives. Acquired shortly after last achievement of note.
Dervan's Salutatorian Opening Speech at Dromund Kaas Imperial Navy Graduation Ceremony
"Hello and welcome, my fellow cadets and citizens of our Empire! We here, before our families, friends, and instructors, invite you all to celebrate with us this day before we enter into service protecting the Empire!"
He pauses, waiting for cheers to die down - the cheers being mostly from the other few graduates and their families. The instructors do their best to uphold their military stoicism, but some can be seen smiling and clapping in a reserved manner.
As you all can see, I, Dervan Brovan - soon to be Private Dervan Brovan," this drew a smattering of chuckling as he glanced at where the instructors stood in front. "...am your class salutatorian. Before we kick off these festivities with the greatest gusto the Empire has to offer, why don't we start off with the crispest of salutes to the many instructors we had to help us through our trials and training?"
He makes a ninety degree about-face, as do all of his fellow graduates, eight counting Dervan. They faced the instructors' portion of the front row of the crowd, saluted, and the highest ranking officer in the room shouted, "At ease!" in a relaxed, sonorous voice. All of the students, Dervan included, returned to the at ease position, and resumed their normal positions.
Dervan gave a half smile, gripped the sides of the podium and leaned forward as if to impart some great secret. Then, sighing, he said, "Well, that's all I had planned for this little speech. I've been taught to be a man of action, not a man of words. Let's let the valedictorian have fun with that, shall we?" He winked at the audience, one of the younger female cadets - who was the younger sibling of one of the graduates - was visibly moved and titillated at this gesture, putting her hand backwards upon her brow, drawing stares from her surrounding family members.
