~ Vesuvius00
1000 or so years from now, Earth is doing pretty well. Science has solved most problems, and the ones that couldn't be solved are bearable, at least. Grand cities in Bio-Domes scattered over the surface of the Earth shine as beacons of life and success- as deserts and oceans cover most of the rest of the planet. Any life outside of the Bio-Domes has had to work really hard to survive the lack of stable resources, and the freak weather, and the lack of a literal glass dome protecting them from god knows what else the world decides to throw at them. Travel between Dome-cities is easy. Entry into the system is not.
Aspiria City is a Bio-Dome on the west coast of what used to be the USA, around where where Ohio used to be. The dome is 100 miles in radius, so that's 200 miles across. In a car hovering at 50 mph, it would take at least 4 hours to cross the entire dome. The government of the dome is fair and tries to keep its citizens happy more than anything else. To do this they have the help of various AI like PHAs (Personal Home Assistants) and C.O.N.N.O.R.
The C.O.N.N.O.R. system is the City Official Neuro-Natural Operations Regulatory system (also called C.O.N.N.O.R. or connor.sys) is an AI which has been created specifically to run the more general aspects of the city. It gives planned-weather and traffic reports, hosts various daily news providers, allows citizens access to the intranet and internet, and controls various other low-level duties such as running the garbage incinerators and the recycling plants, and making sure the air vents are circulating hot air out of the dome and keeping oxygen levels fresh.
Outside of the dome life is much less pleasant. Solar radiation bleaches the ground and mutates any plants or animals that happen to be stuck out in it for too long. The heat is bearable, at least when you're far enough away from a city's vents, but the nights can get dreadfully cold too. The people that live in the wastes are mostly left alone by the cities, so far.
