"My father," said Shaine. "Being an angel, he knows far more about humans than he'd like." He sighed. "It's rather simple: you can see demons, and you have the power to destroy them. If you were a human, you could be considered an exorcist, but you don't use divine power to destroy demons. You walk a very thin line, Veronica."

Veronica felt her shoulder slump. Her grandmother went on spiels in her younger years, warning her of things that she deemed insane. "I can't believe this." She stood there for a moment longer before waking towards the entry of the alleyway. "I'm going home." She muttered as she passed the man, getting a good look at him, before moving on.

A wall of solid blackness blocked her. "Solid shadow," Shaine explained. "It's one of the quirks of being the son of the Destroying Angel." He snapped his fingers. "My father wishes to speak to you. At least, he said he did when he assigned me to watch over you."

"Are you kidding me?" Veronica groaned when the shadow wall pushed against her. "Assigned you?" Shaking her head she turned to face him, giving up. Her head was too rattled for her to even think of anything. "Okay, so where's your father? I don't see him anywhere." Her tone was snappy, her shoulders ridged.

Shaine snapped his fingers and the world around them wss tinged violet and blue. Everything but them seemed to be frozen, but upon closer inspection, it was moving very, very slowly. "Welcome to the spiritual plane," said Shaine.

Veronica's eyes adjusted to the difference of colors. If she thought before that the humming was too much before, it was a completely different story now. The motion of everything made her feel like she was the only one alive. "You come here after you pass?" She questioned, waking slowly.

"Some spirits who die and have unfinished business stay here," explained Shaine. "More correctly, this is the plane between the physical world, Heaven, and Hell. Think of it like a mall: the wide halls with the occasional vendor or candy machine. You'll see angels, demons, and spirits here of nearly every type."

"A world of dead," Veronica thought out loud, continuing to slowly move around. Some distorted creatures made noises directed towards her but she ignored them, blocking the buzzing from her mind. The was surreal to her, but so interesting as she gazed around. "Okay," she started, turning to face the man, "Where's your father?"

There was the sound of footsteps from behind them. Shaine turned to see an imposing figure: his father. Michael was tall, with the same white hair and coal-colored eyes as his son. He was clad in black armor, his wings composed of black feathers, but at the moment, they were draped over his shoulders like a cloak. "I've been expecting you, young lady," he said.
