Historically speaking, the health of an empire can be linked to the state of it's roads. Just ask the Romans about that.
In 1119 A.D., a group of nine crusaders became known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon--a militant order charged with protecting pilgrims and caravans traveling on the roads to and from the Holy Land. In time, these crusaders would grow in power and become the Knights Templar. In time, the order would be laid low. However, a small offshoot of the Templars would return to the order's original mission: to defend the roads of the world and guard those who travel on them.
Theirs is a secret line of knights: big riggers, bikers, taxi hacks, state troopers, bus drivers--any of the folks who live and work on the asphalt arteries of America. They call themselves the Brotherhood of the Wheel, and they wage a bloody and secretive war against those that lurk in shadows.
Possessed biker gangs, Black Eyed Kids, supernatural serial killers, coyotes smuggling people across the border and taking their money, dirty cops, big rig pirates.....the roads are a scary and dangerous place and the only thing standing between you and a missing person report is one of the members of this secretive order
