It was once said that the Alvor who seemed to live forever would rule forever. In fact it was repeated so much it became a proverb of the Tianfal empire, which unsurprisingly was ruled by the Alvor. Many claim that the Alvor started the rumour... Such a statement would be totally and factually correct.
It however isn't totally unfair to blame their own sense of smug self-superiority on simply being the most arrogant race. No, it's their looks that help them with that too. For all alvor, be that of the sky, the land, the caves or the sea, their ability to "glam" up their apperance does do wonders for their own internal ego. Besides once you've lived for almost three times the lifespan of most others, their worries begin to feel less and less relevant.
At the center of heart of it all is the strength of the Tianfal empire, stretching over their home continent of Awreala and over into the neighbouring continent of Orax. Now it reaching the end of the reign of the seventh Emperor, he lies half asleep, not knowing when it will become permanent. Though as he slowly dies, it is a peaceful death, one same in the knowledge that his eldest, the crown princess is a strong leader ready to take the throne. Unfortunately she's already dead, having died of food poisioning from the very exquisite dwarven dish she ate the night before. Afterwards the whole thing would be looked back upon as a clever ploy to throw the empire into a state of chaos by some extremely clever mastermind. Really it was just the mistake of one overenthusatic cook and his liking for a local sauce, which just so happened to be poisionus to Alvor. It was a very interesting chat for him afterwards.

A civil war was brewing, the second and third in line to the throne hated each other, everyone knew that. It was equally known that without anyone there to hold them back both would declare themselves emperor. Like many things which became "well known" throughout the captial, it very swiftly came to fruition.
Which is why Kudelia a local merchants daughter decided to run as far away as she could before the clouds broke. Yet to do that she needed a rag-tag team of helpers, one's who wouldn't hesitate to get their hands dirty should the need arise. So for any that were looking or just happened to be in the right place at the right time they'd find a set of small and discreet posters around the city, advertising for a group of willing helpers to meet Kudelia down at the Highwayman's Head Tavern near the sourthern gate.
