The wallet mechanic is a system based off of a dice rolling system to attain certain goods, services and equipment throughout the story line. "Loot" will be picked up from either defeated enemies or finished jobs as the characters travel through the world. While finishing a job grants a set amount offered from an npc or another player the dice rolling system comes into play when defeating an enemy.
Starting wallet is determined by 4d8*4+100=____
Should you defeat multiple NPC opponents in storyline play at once a dice roll of 1d6 per enemy will be used then the resulting number will be multiplied by 10. For example if you take down two enemies then roll a five and three respectively the total would come to 80 credits after the multiplication.
For single targets the dice roll is 1d10 multiplied by ten. This is to balance game play and evenly distribute money between characters in a group setting.
Note: if the opposing enemy is taken out via non-combatant or non-personal means you do not get the money from the kill. This includes but is not limited to: hitting them with cars, aforementioned traps that are triggered rsignally or by tripwire of some form (for an environmental effect to count you must trigger it personally ex: shooting out a support beam beneath an unstable structure and causing a collapse of rubble), rsignal controlled machines not designated as a primary offensive or horde tactics via npc (no having little robots or random mobs kill it for you to grind money) etc.
The player leading the scene and setting up the enemies will be expected to describe the equipment used by one's enemies and the variable conditions that said equipment may be in. Take into account a mutant living in the sewers who is starving is HIGHLY unlikely to be riding around in a freshly polished tank that smells of lemon pledge. (In other words don't be a dumbass for the sake of a quick chuckle. Weapon and armor conditions are described to limit the gap between player and enemy. If your party had a slingshot and you throw out an army of snipers with thermal sights and fully equipped with force fields you, good sir or madam, are an asshole and need to be put in the box of shame.)This mechanic is also to allow the players to loot the corpses. - Consent is very simple. To get consent for something it’s as easy as private messaging the player you wish to roleplay with and telling them what you intend to do to make sure they are comfortable with it. This is just making sure that you are not crossing any personal limits on the players around you and will help you seem more friendly and outgoing to the player base of the RPs a whole. The more reasonable the players think you are, the more likely you’ll get regular roleplay and avoid disputes.
- Consent is needed by rules in a few cases
· When doing any damage to/forcing your way into a faction base
· When entering a combat scene. These scenes might be very large and another player might make the scene take even longer.
· When entering a rape or abuse scene. In some cases, the victim of the rape scene might have consented to the aggressor raping them with no fallback, per the aggressor’s terms. You should ask before interrupting this scene in order to keep from interrupting what would otherwise be an enjoyable RP for them. This if the very definition of “White Knighting”. The ONLY expect to this rule would be is if the scene were happening on one of the main Midian Streets. So, to recap: Posting into an abuse or rape scene that is happening around an alley corner (even if it’s in that range of the main street) without consent is BAD. Posting into a rape or abuse scene that is happening in plain view of the street is ACCEPTABLE.
· When doing damage to a character you should message them and make sure they’re alright with it. If you do not message them and instead only post an attempt to damage then, do not be offended if they avoid it. This is them consenting out.
· When engaging in any roleplay with a character that might be long term. This includes but is not limited to Rape, kidnapping, memory alteration, hacking, or affecting a players mind through supernatural abilities.
When it comes to consent if you are not sure if you need it just ASK FOR IT ANYWAY. It is better to ask for consent when it is not needed than to not ask and possibly upset a player. - The consent rule exists because everyone has different limits. Some people are more comfortable with some types of roleplay than others. Beyond that, some players may not enjoy the type of roleplay you are wanting to do with them. It is unfair to ask a player to sit through a roleplay they might not enjoy just because you want to do it. It’s actually selfish.
Often times if you find a player does not wish to do a roleplay you want, you can try to come to an agreement with them in order to form a story. If you are a player who is thinking about consenting to be a victim for someone else under an expectation that you will be able to get revenge later you’ll want to talk about this BEFORE you roleplay out the scene where you are a victim. This prevents the story from becoming corrupted. It is poor planning to let your character become a victim without checking what type of fall back your aggressor will be open to. If your aggressor is open to little or no fall back you’ll want to limit the type of victim you play until it will be a logical in character reaction for you for the aggressor to have little or no fallback.
Example: If you or the friends of your character would want to seriously beat or harm your aggressor if he raped you but the aggressor is not open to this fall back from the rape then you would NOT want to consent to rape and instead enter into a story where something less serious happens to your character. The only exception to this would be if you are okay with the aggressor getting no fall back from the rape. In which case it is up to you as the victim to roleplay accordingly after the rape. - No really, no. Not if it is used right.
“This guy,” Says the inexperienced player. “He attacked my character and really hurt them and now won’t consent to any revenge!”
Well now, hold up. Did you ask the other player if they were open to consent before you let them harm your character? The way the consent rule works is the victim has all the power. This stays true in standards of revenge roleplay. Before you let yourself become a victim, you should work these terms out. - Easy. Just IM the player who is attacking you and let them know you do not consent in the most polite manner possible. Don’t worry; they won’t think you are being unfair. It’s fine to be uncomfortable with things or to not enjoy certain roleplays. It may be difficult for some but try not to be shy about this or feel bad. We don’t want you in a roleplay you won’t enjoy. If the player begins to OOCly insult you, belittle you or treat you rudely please make sure you use the Report a Player function in our forms. We take OOC harassment VERY seriously, and you can be assured an incident of it with the proof needed will be handled.
Now, if you are someone who has previously attacked or otherwise assaulted another character and now that character, their IC friends, or people they have hired are now seeking revenge on you it is fine to let them know that you do not wish to play along. I’m assuming this situation happened because you and your once-upon-a-victim did not come to an agreement on if you would consent to such BEFORE the victim roleplay happened. If you did not, it would be wise to try and be fair and allow some sort of fall back if they really want it. If you don’t want to roleplay it out you can always fade the scene to black.
What do I do if someone is ignoring consent?
If someone is attempting to force roleplay on your character that you have told them, politely, in OOC that you do not want please report the player right away. We will handle it. - Limits are the personal limitations of roleplay on a player per player basis. These are something you should ask if you're going to enter any type of victim roleplay.
There comes a time when people run into trouble during roleplay. It happens to the best of us, as much as we try to avoid it. Perhaps someone is trying to hand out a lot of damage, or maybe using power or metagaming. Voiding is one way to deal with this, but it comes with massive fallback for you. This page is going to break down the basics of how to void a roleplay if you deem it needed.

When you void a roleplay you are basically stating that any play that has happened during the time you have been posting in the scene should be erased from in character knowledge and history. This is a HUGE step and should not be taken lightly or done in a moment of anger. It’s most likely that if you do void a roleplay most of the people involved in the scene will not want to roleplay with you again. No one likes having to start over.

- This is petty. Just because the action is not going in a way you wanted or like do not mean you should just void it and leave. If you find you are no longer enjoying a scene you should post that your character is exiting, then simply walk away. This is allowed via the consent rule. No one can force you to roleplay in a scene you do not wish to be in.
- There is no time, ever, that you will be able to void another player’s post. If you suspect that someone is making a post because of OOC motivations, metagaming, or power-gaming you should message those involved and very politely express that you would like to leave so they can help you do so. Once out of the RPif you feel it needed, you can use the Report A Player Form to make a complaint.
Do not tell the player you are reporting that you will be making a complaint. This would be using the forms as an OOC threat. Also realize that upon Reporting a Player we will ask you for proof of you trying to work out the scene in a polite, adult manner in IMs with the offending party. Complaints submitted with no attempt to resolve the issue maturely will be dismissed. - This rule exists to prevent people from voiding scenes because they do not like the direction. Again, if you find that you are not enjoying a scene, private message the players involved and state that you wish to leave to allow them to help you make a proper exit.
- A mentor must give the okay to all voids. This process may take time as they will most likely ask for a log of the entire scene to review and request to know the details of why you are wishing to void. Expect them to also take the time to massage the other players involved to help you work a way out of the scene that does not involve voiding. This means your roleplay could be ground to a halt for over an hour if the issue is complex enough.
If a mentor is not online, please message the players involved, tell them that you would like to leave so they can help you post out and submit a form for a Request to Void. Do not tell the other players that you will be asking to void the scene. If your void is not approved then this will just make you look silly. It will also look like you are OOCly threatening the other players if you mention this and the players involved will probably not want to play with you again.

The basics

Do not free your weapon, aim, and fire in the same post. The standard set up is it should be one post to free your gun, one post to target your foe, and one post in which you fire. If you are attacked, or otherwise distracted during the process of aiming it is good form to take an additional post to re-center your aim. Grenades are three posts to use. One to draw. One to activate (pull the pin) and one to throw. If you choose to “cook off” the grenade (this means to hold it in hand for a couple of additional seconds so it goes off as soon as it hit the ground or in midair and give victims less time to dodge) then it is four posts. One to draw, one to activate, one to cook, and one to throw.
Please keep in mind all explosives require consent from everyone in scene. These do not include stinger grenades or flashbangs by the Midian ruleset. Details on how to play effects are below.

Sniping is a pretty complex trick to use, and should be use extremely sparingly as it is often considered a “free hit” by many people. When sniping, there should be at least three posts of setting up your shot, at least two posts of aiming (as there is some complex math involved), and after the shot there should be at least three posts of you packing up to leave. It’s best to plan to leave clues for your victim; otherwise most will not enjoy the RP and will consider the interaction in poor taste.[\hider]
At no point in time should the player odds ever be greater than 3:1. Larger odds than this are what is defined as dotmobbing. If you are roleplaying in a large group and run into a combat situation where you greatly overwhelm another party it would be wise to figure out a story means to have the numbers dwindle unless it is a preplanned scene, being it your party’s confidence that they don’t need large numbers to handle the problem, or the characters needing to attend other engagements.
Examples of good ways to employ this are:
- Medical center characters can signal they have received a page for urgent care due to an extremely wounded NPC being admitted to the hospital. This does not mean you have to go stand at the hospital and not RP. It’s just something to provide an exit. You can go to another RP scene and open your posting that you had just come from the hospital after saving or losing the NPC in question. If you are questioned in scene as to why you are not attending the battle, you can say you had to leave due to the wounded NPC.
- Police characters can signal they are being paged for NPC robberies going on at a non-staffed faction base. If you use a faction with a current player presence then it’s likely that the faction you’re pretending was robbed will be very confused (and possibly alarmed) in hearing they might have been robbed without their knowledge due to consent rules.
- If you are answering a backup call or plea for help, and notice the ratio is off, you can simply task yourself to removal of the wounded. Just be careful not to enter the combat or make aggressive posts toward the other party.
- Bar owning characters can signal that their NPC bartending character has become ill/wounded and you are forced to take over their shift.

If players are showing running they are probably consenting out of capture or combat. You are welcome to give chase, but following them for more than two posts can be a little much. Instead, signal losing them due to a sudden NPC wandering into your path, your characters lack of interest to follow, or other such details.
If you are running or not consenting to combat or capture please do not give in to the urge to give parting snark, cheap shots, or anything else that might encourage continued combat or you to be pursued. If you are unwilling to entertain a scene be a good sport and give your terrorizers some type of roleplay “bone”. Good examples of this would be showing fear, nervousness, or a wary mind of the situation. Bad examples would be laughing, taunting, or informing the other player character they’re beneath you/not worth your time before you walk away. Those will be baiting actions and if you are unwilling to engage in long combat it can be taken as OOCly offensive and give those you are playing with a bad taste in their mouths.
If Characters signal speaking quietly do not respond by showing you have heard them automatically, especially if your character has advanced hearing. Message the players and ask if they’re open to you over hearing and building story off what you have learned. Players often find being automatically heard when they take care to be quiet rude.
If you have walked into an area where people are already posting do not signal hearing what is being said, or getting a clear look at what is going on. Take a post to collect information on your surroundings. Only information posted after you have signald into a scene should be taken as knowledge for your character.
If characters are “Spraying bullets” they are looking to make you take cover. Standing openly in the street and taking no hits may be seen as rude.
If you have been maced it is good form to assume that your character is having trouble seeing and breathing for three post rounds. Recovering too quickly or showing immunity due to training or skills is seen as rude and cheesy.
If you have been tazed it is good form to assume two posts of recovery from the hit. showing your character is immune to such things can be seen as rude, not to mention cheesy.
If players are using Flashbangs or Stinger Grenades they are also looking to have their foes take cover. A good rule of thumb is to assume one post where you react to the grenade (fleeing or seeking cover), one post where you react to the weapon going off (being deafened or shielding), and three posts of being dazed or recovering during which time your character may move around but it would lack their normal grace. If you shielded yourself, then take one post after the grenade has gone off to assure that the weapon has discharged, and then resume normal functions.

The rules for firearms are designed to give a good balance between free-form playability and giving players who may not know much about firearms a good idea of how much damage they would reasonably take from a weapon. As always it is your decision what occurs from an attack, but the following will be a reasonable set of guidelines for various guns, wounds, and armor. Also, keep in mind it's possible one can use melee types of weapons as long as their size and weight are not unreasonable for that respective character. No weapons larger than the avatar.
- Weapon Calibers
An exhaustive list of bullets, and what they do, would be dull, tedious, and not really worth it for the RPor players. Instead, calibers are grouped into categories, so a player has a good idea of what a bullet might do to their mass upon impact. Ammo classifications are so complex as to make a comprehensive list impossible so this will offer just some basic "groupings"... use your judgment, and when in doubt ASK.
It would also be good to note the .50 Calibur round is banned. You should also be aware that any ammo or gun mods that could make your damage equal to a .50 Cal are also banned. - Armor
Again, armor in Midian is going to be grouped very generally, with a sense of how various rounds will interact with them. In the race between defense and attack through history, attack almost always has the advantage, so it’s safe to assume that even more, advanced hard armours in the future will find themselves vulnerable to enhanced bullet types. In short, no armor will let you weather the fire without so much as flinching unless they're using an air rifle. Armor is grouped by broad "types"
Below are the weapons and armor charts. These are what is most likely to happen when you are shot, in case you are unfamiliar with guns. Now, before you go send up player complaints about people not taken enough damage from gun shots keep in mind that Midian is a consent based sim. This means that people will only take as much damage as they consent to, in any case, and a player report should only be submitted if problems due to stylistic differences make story impossible to parse. Proper etiquette has been covered above, and those in violation of proper combat manners will be educated and warned if begins to affect the story in a negative manner. Repeated violations can result in being banned from Midian for poor sportsmanship.

There are two charts, one for a standard rate of healing, and one for a supernatural or otherwise “quick healing” character. Keep in mind, quick healers, that if you’re going to try and keep this ability secret then you’re going to want to at least appear wounded until the standard heal chart times have passed. The “quick heal” time also applies to mechs and robotic characters or parts. Assume this time is the hours your hardware will take to repair, especially if parts need be ordered or made.
Please be aware, these times are scaled down to “roleplayable” time frames. No one wants to roleplay out a broken arm for as long as it lasts in real life. These times are also not “Stackable”. All damage will heal at the same rate. Meaning, receiving more wounds does not add addition heal time beyond the longest standing heal rate of the worst wound consented to. If you need an IC reason to explain why then we can all just assume a generation of gene-therapy has made life awesome in unexpected ways. The max heal time for any damage is recommended at a week and a half. The smallest is the same day. All times are IRL day base to allow for easier maths.

Explosives are a very high damage weapon. As such, they are treated with extra care when it comes to roleplay. The proper manner of handling these weapons are outlined below. Not following these guidelines will result in an education over the rules and a warning. Repeated failure to use the proper manners when using these weapons will end in you being banned from the sim. Please read the following rules carefully.
- Message all players involved in the scene before using explosives
- If any characters do not consent to the explosive you cannot use it
- Expect characters to take damage sparingly
- Message all players involved in the scene before using explosives
- If you intend to use any type of explosive in a roleplay you must get consent from all parties involved before you use it. That means you will need to private message each player on an individual basis to get their okay to use the weapon. Explosives are often seriously wounding or lethal when roleplayed out correctly which is the driving factor behind this rule.
- If you run across a player who is not doing this, please, message them and let them know politely that explosives can only be used with the consent of all parties involved. If you do not consent, let them know that as well.
- If any characters do not consent to the explosive you cannot use it
Yes. Even if one player out of fifteen says no, the explosive cannot be used. Do not argue with them in IM, attempt to change their mind, or beg. Just don’t use the explosive. If you have posted using an explosive without asking consent and someone messages you to remind you of the rule, do not get rude. Simply take a moment to speak OOC in main chat and make sure everyone is okay with the explosive and request they private message you if they are not.
If you have already posted using an explosive without consent and someone does not consent to the use of explosives then you have three options. One is to go OOC in main chat and inform everyone that the explosive you used will be a dud. The second is to go OOC in main chat and inform people you will be changing your post and replace the explosive with an item that only LOOKS like its more lethal doppelganger. The final option is to go OOC in main chat and let everyone know you will be reposting and change your post entirely. - Expect characters to take damage sparingly
As mentioned several times in this article, explosives merit out a lot of damage. In the event that everyone consents, OOCly, to their use do not expect that everyone will take full damage from it. As per the Midian rules, it is everyone choice how much damage they take from any attack and though we would like to keep things as realistic as possible we will never force any player to take more damage than they are comfortable with in any situation.
