Appearance: Felix is relatively short, at a mere 4'11, and has a naturally lithe build. He is a caucasian male of Irish descent, despite an Italian skin tone. Crimson Red hair flares out like he is constantly being shocked by lightning, and amber-brown eyes. His arms are covered in burns from various failed experiments. Despite being a Raven, he prefers shades of green for his clothing, hailing back to his Irish heritage.

History: Felix graduated Hogwarts in the class of '65, and was regarded either as a genius or a lunatic. A true Ravenclaw, he took the theory he learnt from the teachers and books and tested it to its natural limits. Due to this, he was one of a select list of Hogwarts students who had a bed named for them.
After graduation, he went travelling around Europe in order to attain a Mastery in Ancient Runes. When asked he replied; "Where better to learn about the languages than in their home countries?" He also gathered several tomes of obscure knowledge, many of which considered Dark by British standards, in order to learn about the limits other mages have reached. His experimental runic arrays, at least the more stable ones, were enough to attain his mastery in the subject.
Returning to Britain, bereft of funds and needing a job, he applied for the position of Ancient Runes Teacher. In his free time he began working on his second Mastery, literally choosing Transfiguration by throwing a dart at a bulletin board with pictures of his fellow professors, though it is slow going with constant distractions with his various magical experiments. Also frequent infirmary visits.

Personality: Felix is the Wizarding equivilent of a mad scientist. When left to his own devices, he tends to get overly absorbed in a topic to the extent he forgets about mundane things like eating or personal safety. Fortunately, when given a set schedule he tends to be much more sane... and stays out the infirmary. As a teacher, he is considered decent, preferring practical demonstrations in class to keep his students attention.

Appearance: James is on the short side of average height, measuring approximately 5'6" with a slim, runner-like build, but don't let his size fool you; he is surprisingly strong for his small build. He keeps his brown hair short and out of his face, which is round and fair-skinned and devoid of facial hair. His eyes are leaf-green and alight with kindness and intelligence.

History: James was born to an accomplished wizard who had gone from a clerk at Flourish and Blott's to Undersecretary to the Head of Magical Law Enforcement in five short years, and a muggle professor of chemistry at a college in a small town in western England near the Welsh border. He grew up in a small house in the country where his favorite pastimes included reading everything he could get his hands on and going on adventures in the vast woods and fields outside his home. He discovered his talent for magic on one of his adventures when he was deep in the woods and ran into a large cat. James was not an expert on the local fauna, but he was pretty sure there weren't any big cats native to his particular part of the country. None of that mattered, though, as he was there, and the cat didn't look friendly. James wasn't sure what to do. He knew he couldn't outrun the cat, and he couldn't take the cat on, and the cat didn't seem to be the least bit scared of James. James was rooted to the spot in a mix of fear and uncertainty, and suddenly the cat came forward. James could never truly say what happened next, but one moment he was facing a large cat approaching him, and the next there was a harmless kitten scampering away from him. He returned home to tell his parents about what had happened. When his dad heard about this adventure, he swelled with pride and explained that he knew his boy would be a great wizard. Like any young boy, James was naturally excited at the prospect of being a wizard, and from that moment, he would read anything he could about magic and Hogwarts and the Wizarding World. He found his dad's old Hogwarts textbooks and began reading them, trying to memorize as many spells and potions from the books as possible. During his outdoor adventures, he would often take a stick and pretend it was his wand and that he could perform great magic with it, even though he could hardly even control the outcome of the magic he did most of the time. He finally got his letter from Hogwarts and all but begged his dad to take him to Diagon Alley right away so that he could get his stuff. He had to settle with waiting until the weekend to go, but once he did, he got his robes, his textbooks, his wand (sycamore and phoenix feather, 10 1/2 inches, slightly bendy), and a pet (a barn owl named Jareth). James was willing and excited to begin his education at Hogwarts.

On his arrival at Hogwarts, James proved to be a hatstall. The sorting hat could not decide whether James's bravery or intelligence was his more important trait and waffled between sorting him into Gryffindor or Ravenclaw for a good ten minutes (his kindness and fierce loyalty also gained a brief consideration for Hufflepuff, but this was quickly rejected as his bravery and cleverness eclipsed his kindness and loyalty). In the end, bravery won over intelligence and James was sorted into Gryffindor, but the hat admitted during the process that James could just as easily fit into Ravenclaw. During his time at Hogwarts, James continued to pursue his passions of adventuring and learning and would be frequently found, outside of class times, either in the library or exploring the grounds, sometimes in places where he shouldn't have been, due to his thirst for adventure. James worked hard and earned good marks in all his classes, but he showed a special talent for Transfiguration and Care of Magical Creatures, even writing an unassigned essay on phoenixes for the latter, to the jealousy of one of his Ravenclaw classmates. In his fifth year he was made Prefect for Gryffindor House (despite a slight tendency to break the rules) as well as Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, for which he played as a Chaser. That year he achieved a full set of OWLs and went on to NEWT levels of all his classes, and while this made James busier than ever, he still found time to indulge in his other interests outside of classes and even become an animagus.

Upon finishing his education at Hogwarts, James spent some time traveling, having no clue what he really wanted to do with his life. After a year of traveling, James decided he wanted to follow in the footsteps of New Scamander and other illustrious magizoologists and study the magical creatures of the world. His work took him further afield than his travels after graduating Hogwarts, and he explored some of the most remote, uninhabited parts of the world. He expanded on the work of his predecessors and discovered five new species of magical beasts and rediscovered a hidden enclave of a creature that had been believed to be extinct for nearly a century, and was even still endangered. After nearly eleven years of exploration, discovery, and reports far too long for most people to care about, James felt a change of pace was needed. He loved the work he had been doing up to this point, but the extensive travel and physical demands were also starting to wear on him, and so he figured he might do well to take a slower job for a few years. With the Wizarding world in turmoil due to the rise of Voldemort, James figured the safest place to be would be Hogwarts, so he went back to Hogwarts and asked Professor Dumbledore (who was now Headmaster) if there were any positions that needed filling. James happened to be in luck as the previous Transfiguration professor had recently tendered his resignation. With James's aptitude for transfiguration, he accepted the open position.

Personality: James is a smart and adventurous young man who is enthusiastic about the things that he is most knowledgeable about and can happily spend hours talking about magical creatures, transfiguration, and quidditch, to name just a few of his most passionate interests. Something of a prodigy from his youth, he remains a high achiever in all that he does, never willing to settle for anything less than his absolute best effort in any endeavor. This bleeds over into a very no-nonsense teaching style that pushes students to try their very hardest at their lessons. Nevertheless, he is also patient with students who are struggling and will do his best to help them in whatever area they are having difficulty. He will even offer private tutoring sessions for students who need extra help, even if they need extra help in a subject other than transfiguration.

Goal/Motivation: James loves the world and wants to protect it in any way he can, whether it be by saving an endangered species or by stopping a rogue wizard committing horrible atrocities, but while James is perfectly capable of protecting himself, he is by no means a fighter in the type of battles that the war with Voldemort will entail. Thus, he feels that his best chance at doing his part to protect his world is to arm young wizards with whatever skills they will need.

Name: Abigail Harlow
Age: 31
House: Slytherin
Occupation: Curse-Breaker

Time on Staff: There has always been this sensation around Abigail's tenure as a teacher that she's waiting for something. Though she flourished as a DADA teacher and provided enthusiastic, practical approaches to the subject, the overstimulation of the post flared up her condition and left her sickly. She's content in her position as Potions Master and a competent professor but it's obvious to the older students that she's restless, often taking temp work over the holidays abroad and maintaining an elaborate network of friends and contacts both in the faculty and beyond it to her ex-housemates and colleagues in the Maghreb.

Rumours surrounding her name amongst the students include the often exaggerated stories of her ailment, ranging from active tuberculosis to a mummy's curse to vampirism, though none have been able to pinpoint the origin. She's said to come from a long line of pureblood supremacists yet amongst those of that political leaning it is apparent she's one of the black sheep in the family name. She'll make potions and elixirs on the sly for students too embarrassed to go to the hospital wing and her office door typically remains open, thus propagating the aforementioned ailment rumours from students witnessing her symptoms.

Appearance: Faceclaims can be misleading and far too pretty for my taste. Building off the image above (blonde hair, questionably fashionable wardrobe choices) it’s worth noting that Abigail has significantly more scars, wrinkles and wear and tear than your average adult should have. Her nose is more upturned and piggish, and her lips are marred with a split that never properly healed. When she smiles, you can see that she’s missing a tooth. She’s short but stocky. She smells of tobacco.

History:

• Grew up in the Harlow Family Estate, an ancient stomping ground for dark creatures bordering the notorious Wenlock Edge forest in Shropshire. Childhood consisted of pet ghouls, routine boggart checks, de-pixifying the attic and throwing scraps out for the beasts in the woods. Her parents worked in tandem with the ministry to preserve the site as a national heritage site as well as maintenance of the property. It was well lived in by her immediate and extended family.
• Fell victim to (and survived) various small curses, jinxes and hexes before even reaching enrolment age for Hogwarts, typically after unearthing small trinkets or allowing natural curiosity to lead her to the worst dusty places in the manor. Became a regular face in st Mungos. Began her unofficial scar collection and learnt through observation. When she wasn't getting bumped and bruised, she'd often be wrangled into the socialite dinner parties of a post-war generation keen to set aside the last twenty years. The estate's self sufficiency and the old money of the Harlow family kept them in an advantageous position against rationing. They began to carry themselves above the ranks of the muggle "warmongers". She learnt about Grindelwald from her grandparents.
• Quickly became involved in extracurricular activities during her time at Hogwarts. Made friends with most of her housemates and excelled in DADA, Care for Magical Creatures, and Potions. Founded the Knitting and Textiles Club. Exposure to half-blood and muggleborn wizards lessened her prejudices from an early age.
• Education held back a year due to severe injuries and resulting chronic condition over Christmas of 1958. Returned to Hogwarts under special circumstances, which included regular visits to the Hospital Wing and a close rapport with the Potions master.
• Began to show signs of familial difficulty and political activism, particularly with pro-muggle sympathies. Moved in with her uncle Claudius in 1960. Rumours of disownment from the family tree arose, as her uncle was a marked ‘Blood Traitor’ amongst pureblood society.
• Political activism took a sharp and sudden turn into compliance in 1962. Focused on OWLs and NEWTs without any further difficulty save for expected absences due to her condition. Graduated with mostly Outstanding and Exceeds Expectations grades.
• Transferred from Hogwarts to a position in Gringotts as a Curse-Breaker. Spent five years abroad in francophone North African countries working on Berber and other indigenous burial sites, which included ample use of counter-curses, negotiations with ghosts and manoeuvring around hostile magical and non-magical creatures. Added to her scar collection. Noticed some worrying news from Europe.
• Applied to the Defence Against the Dark Arts position in 1970 under the employment of newly appointed headmaster Albus Dumbledore. Due to her ailment, she stepped down from the post in 1971 yet remained in the faculty as Potions Master.
• Uncle Claudius moved from Lincolnshire to Hogsmeade in 1974 at his niece's request.

Personality: It's best to meet her and find out. In brief, Abigail is shrewd but welcoming. She possesses the moral ambiguity to get things done but errs on the side of caution. She both collects and keeps tabs on her friends and contacts. Doing the right thing doesn't always mean doing the good thing in her book. She has the character of an extrovert hindered by her condition, which has opened up to a nihilism that hints at her desire for martyrdom.

Goal/Motivation: Ultimately, Abigail seeks to find a way to remove the curse placed upon her in 1958. Whilst forced to withhold from political activity after increasing tensions between pureblood families such as hers and squib/muggle relations, she still remains a staunch opponent to Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Because she considers herself half-dead or terminally ill, she both pushes to do something meaningful before she dies whilst restraining herself for the 'right moment' for a 'heroic sacrifice'. She strives to leave a legacy in case she cannot find a cure.

Name: Marsus Toadn
Age: 42
House: Slytherin
Occupation: Hogwarts Teacher (Divination)

History:

A pure-blood wizard from the Toadn family and maternally the Vablatsky family, both known to produce prominent seers. The sorting hat did not spend long on young Marsus Toadn before sending him immediately to Slytherin; in fact it probably could of sussed it out while he was still aboard the Hogwarts express. The boy had weasleish written all over him and is a little bit cunning in the same way the Grand Canayon is slightly deep.

Taking queues from his heritage, Marsus became greatly intrigued by the art of divination, developing a thirst of knowledge that eventually led him into joining a gang of fellow Sytherins that sought for learning beyond what the mere Hogwarts syllabus provided.

After Hogwarts though Marsus broke off on his own. After half-heartedly holding down a few odd jobs, he eventually came to prominence after predicting the results of the 1968 quidditch world cup down to the finest detail. This earning those who supposedly heeded his prediction considerable bet winnings...The more keenly informed would also note that while having obvious seer blood Marsus also just so happened to be an expert at the confundus charm...but this largely went unnoticed.

Marsus' achievement, however dubious, gained him great notoriety, though not always from the right people. Marsus eventually ended up seeking refuge (though he would never admit it) at Hogwarts as teacher of divination.


Personality:
Transcending the curtain of the mundane to see beyond the veil of fate with ones own mystic inner-eye has a tendency to give one, quite a bit of arrogance. Marsus is known for his snarky condescending wit in and out of the classroom, this combined with a mischievous trickster streak make him easily one of the least popular teachers at Hogwarts. This does not seem to bother him in the slightest.

Clever and cunning come to mind more than deep and mysterious when describing Professor Toadn. However in spite of his seemingly self-serving nature, deep down, he is not actually a bad person. Mockery and looking down on others brings him great pleasure, but he doesn't go for cruelty. There are even rumours that he has occasionally been kind to students...Followed swiftly by an Obliviate spell of course.

His darker nature surfaces when it comes to gaining power, which to Marsus translates as gaining knowledge of divination, which he will occasionally cast aside his scant morals to acquire.


Goal/Motivation:
A Slytherin to the bone, Marsus has a very strong sense of self-preservation (his main reason behind moving to Hogwarts) but all the same he just can't seem to keep his nose out of trouble for long. In spite of often exaggerating his own abilities, Marsus has a genuine devotion and fascination of divination and will often go to questionable lengths to acquire more knowledge in it. He also has a passionate interest in money, specifically in getting a lot of it.
