It was a strange feeling...

Almost like dreaming, but being awake. The whole scene flashed before my eyes as if I was there.

Yet helpless to actually change the events that occurred. I could only observe.

These... dreams became more frequent as I traveled and experienced more and more of this world. And I found myself getting lost in them. These events, these peoples lives, I can now observe as a third party.

Allow me to jot down... all that I can recall...

Somewhere in Araminta...?

There was a house in the middle of the woods, three stories and stood ominously as the only house for miles. Abandoned for some time, a stranger in a leather jacket and a hoodie brushed the For Sale sign as he walked up the stairs with a purpose. He pushed open the wooden door and was almost instantly assaulted by the smell of mold and what smelled like decaying meat. The stranger pushed past it all as he walked through the house to the kitchen. The first sight was the refrigerator as he walked over and threw it open and grabbed a gallon of milk. He ignored the rancid smell as he popped the top off and just downed it all. With some of the disgusting spoiled milk landing on his body, he shook his head as he tossed it aside. He turned around and walked towards a door to the basement. He walked down the stairs to what would be a normal basement if it wasn't for the tunnel that was carved into the place.

The stranger walked into the dark tunnels and keep going until he ended up in a massive staircase that was seemingly out of a castle. At the top were two massive wooden doors that emanated a strange red light, and this stranger went up the stairs through the doors. The first sight was a massive hall and at the center were stairs that lead up to a massive golden throne with a strange figure sitting in it. It was shadowy, it's silhouette was strangely feminine. The stranger walked up to the foot of the stairs and took a knee, placing the switchblade that was in his hand on the ground in front of him.

"Ah, I see," The figure spoke in a feminine voice. "You have done well."

An orb of red light appeared in her hand as it gracefully landed on the hooded figure. "You deserve a reward, and a reward you shall get. We still have more work to do," When it hit the figure in the hood and mask, it caused a red light to surge throughout his entire being. The figure in the throne smiled and her white teeth could be seen through the darkness perfectly as if they were being illuminated by light.

"Go on, collect more...."

Araminta, Pennslyvania. 6:48 PM, Monday June 3rd.

The sun was setting over Araminta just as it did many days. Today Jaden wished that he could say it was any different, but he was spending all day on his bicycle. Pedaling from one place to another putting up missing signs... only for most of them to get taken down. If there was one time he wanted this cracker ass town to do the right thing... it'd be now. He ended up at a convenience store on top of a hill that overlooked the river. It was quite beautiful, but he didn't have time to take in the scenery... that not he cared. His eyes were baggy and his legs were desperately calling him for a rest. He had to find Cierra, even if it killed him.

Jaden sighed. He knew Cierra was still alive because... because he would just know if she was deceased. Every now and then he receives a vision or two of her. Lost. Walking around a strange version of Araminta, Pennslyvania. Weird. He wasn't sure if it was just a dream or if it was the real thing, but these powers of theirs have to be good for something. Anything.

Placing the tape on the topmost part of the missing poster he hopped back on his bike when he heard a crash... A great crash that could be heard all over Araminta and Jaden's head whipped towards the direction of the woods as he saw a massive pillar of purple light piercing through the heavens. Jaden raised an eyebrow as he looked in awe... Araminta just got a lot weirder.

... And soon enough, he was engulfed in the purple light.

"Justin," Katie said in Chinese as she huffed as she damn near ran up the stairs. "You gotta slow down just a bit."

The girl clutching her purse with one hand slid the keys into the doorknob and turned it to the left. This was a lot to handle... her brother who went missing a few months ago turned out safe and sound. Telling her a bunch of craziness on the clock! Katie was wearing her generic coffee shop uniform which consisted of black jeans with a white dress shirt tucked into it and a red apron. When she made it into her dorm she marched directly to her bed and sat down on it.

"Katie, I can't," Justin said, rather hurriedly, "I can't calm down and I can't put into words what happened."

"It was an earthquake," Katie said.

"But, that's not what happened... you're still in Pennslyvania, right?" Justin said. "I wish I could show you the things I can see but you're too far away."

"Brother, did you hit your head?" Katie said with a pause as she undid the tie on her apron and let it fall off. She laid on her back as she softly spoke, "Because you are not making any sense."

"I don't think I should say this over the phone, but magic... it's real," Justin said and immediately Katie paid attention.

"Wait, did you just say magic is real?" Katie asked.

"Ha, sounds like you know something, too," Justin said, "I have to show you, I can't explai-"

Suddenly that great crash appeared and made Katie drop her phone, and she almost fell off. She looked at the window and saw the purple light... she wasn't in the angle to see the pillar but she can see the great light it gave off as it engulfed her too like it did many others.

Is this the light they talked about?

You know, the light you see when you die.

I didn't think it came from a high beam.

Or was it a high beam?

It didn't seem like a high beam? Or a light any car could give off.

And trust me I have seen a fuckton of those and this light felt different.

Much different.

I like it.

I hope it never ends.

Because it fills me with strength.

Passion.

Love.

And most of all...

Anticipation.

So...

What kind of light is it?

Rita opened her eyes.

She suddenly gasped for air as she desperately looked around herself, sitting up. She thought that she was dead! By all means, she should be at the speed that the car was going. All she saw around herself was this... warehouse? That's what it looked like. It reminded her a bit of that place she partied in a few times. Just an empty room that let in the setting sun - which was weird as hell because it was night time last time she checked. Was she unconscious? No. She didn't fall asleep at all, she was fully conscious just engulfed by light of some sort. She eventually hopped up to her feet as she looked around. She wasn't alone in the room as it seemed a good dozen other people were in the room as her. All on the ground.

"... What in the fuck was that?!" Jaden loudly shouted as he hopped to his feet. He looked around, confused as all hell. "Where the hell am I?!"

"I doubt anyone here has the answer," Kaitlyn said as she also rose to her feet. She dusted off the back of her clothes before she pulled her button out from her pants. "So how about you stop yelling, please? It's unnecessary."

Jaden grumbled as he stood up. He looked at Kaitlyn as he said, "Fine." His first instinct was to just get up and start walking back home. He shook his head as he marched on before being stopped.

"Hey!" Rita shouted at him before she wrapped her arms around herself because it was cold here. "This place doesn't look like Florida, does it?"

Jaden looked at Rita with a blank face. "... Of course, this ain't Florida. We - I believe - are in Araminta, Pennslyvania. But, I doubt a magical purple light teleported us just to this warehouse." Jaden shook his head as he crossed his arms. He realized that things were probably not straight forward... or he was just being paranoid. Still, the Marines taught him strength in numbers. He shouldn't wander off alone.

"Ara- what?" Rita asked.

"Araminta, never heard of it? Well, neither did a lot of people, girl," Jaden said as he looked around. More and more people are getting up. He had a strange feeling about this place.

That he couldn't accurately say he was in Araminta.

Abigail chewed the end of her pen thoughtfully and stood up. It was one of those nights; ones where you were only assigned questions one to four, but each had subsequent questions that lettered up to G. It was also one of those nights. She sat under the fluorescent bulb of the kitchen light, tense and staring with disinterest at a point just beyond her textbooks as her ears strained to hear what was going on upstairs. Her stomach growled and she pushed her feet into her trainers. She glanced once, twice at the ceiling as her features crumpled up with disgust. Her fingers found the end of her jacket sleeves and then ran through the seams of her pockets, checking for her things. She crossed the threshold from the kitchen to the living room and up the stairs. Oliver and Isaac were out, Joseph wouldn't be home till seven. She made a deliberate effort to land on the creaky step with some weight but it didn't muffle the choked sobs, so she stamped a little as she went down the corridor and knocked on a plain wooden door.

"Tyler, would you like me to heat dinner?" Abigail called out with trepidation.

Silence.

"...Tyler? It's in the fridge. You don't have to do anything…"

"...Y-you go on ahead, sweetheart. I'm not hungry right now," came a wobbly voice from the master bedroom. Abigail stood outside the door, her thumb worming between her lips as she gnashed her teeth on the stub of the nail. Her gaze went from the door to the landing and back at the door again.

"You sure?" She offered hopefully.

"Yeah. It's okay."

Abigail exhaled and went back down the stairs, again making an effort to hit the creaky step. She pulled out a greasy tupperware box from the top drawer of the fridge and her fingers hovered over the rim of the coke can in one of the shelves for a second or two before her shoulders sank and she shut the door, cracking the lid of the tupperware open and putting it - loudly - into the microwave. Her gaze slipped up to the ceiling. The sobbing had started again. She licked the blood off her thumb and punched in a few numbers into the keypad.

Whilst the microwave buzzed and spun Abigail regarded her homework with a furrowed brow and then stumbled slightly as a great cracking rumble shook the foundations of the house itself. All the windows lit up with purple light. "...Tyler?" She called out, watching the purple line get bigger. Her eyes widened. "Fuck--Tyler!" A lot happened in a couple of seconds. Disregarding her own safety, Abigail raced up the stairs to get her guardian out of the house. As she took the stairs two at a time, Tyler burst out of the door to run down the corridor. Abigail slipped on the landing and the purple glow engulfed her and took the floor clear out from underneath her. She flailed and inhaled sharply as her stomach dropped…

Concrete was not a particularly forgiving surface to land on, especially at speed. Abigail landed on her side but her head bounced shortly after, knocking the wind out and briefly stunning the girl as she rolled confusedly onto her back and covered her eyes with her forearm. It took her a while to get her breath back and even longer to bother moving, partially paralysed with fear and pinned to the floor by the disorienting spinning sensation that inevitably followed such a knock.

As painfully drab and purposefully mundane as Araminta was, a sunset looked as nice here as it did in most places. Particularly when out in the woods with a joint in hand.

Terry licked the edge of the paper and began to deftly roll it up, quietly enjoying the fact that for once it didn't seem to have any noticeable bumps or deformities. With how things had been going at least he could still roll competently enough. Terry placed the joint in his mouth and began searching the pockets on his jeans and shirt for a few moments only to furrow his brow in annoyance and silently taking the joint out of his mouth and putting it in his shirt pocket. For once his contemplative trip would have a nice backdrop but alas, no lighter.

He leaned back on the rock formation he'd parked himself on. His friends had come out here with him to hang out and bullshit but fairly quickly got bored and decided to head off, Terry said he'd meet them later tonight at whatever impromptu show got inevitably thrown together but he didn't feel very enthused at the prospect. He hadn't played a show since he found out he could project shit out of his hands and his friends had began jokingly congratulating him on retirement. It both annoyed and amused him that he now had two reasons for his lack of performance that he couldn't inform anyone about, one because they would think he was a wash out and the other because they'd think he'd gone nuts up until he demonstrated with no doubt disastrous results.

Still, the outskirts were a nice enough reason in and of themselves to stick around, far enough from the goings on of Araminta but not too deep that Terry in his more fucked up states couldn't find his way back home easily.

Indeed, the sun setting was bright and comforting amidst the hysteria currently gripping the normally sleepy suburbs. It was simple, warm, purple.

'Wait... Purple?' Terry thought as he righted himself back and squinted his eyes at the sky, suddenly the beam of purple grew closer and began to engulf his vision.

"Well fu-" Terry said before the light crashed into the ground and made him disappear.

Not that you're ever really prepared to be transported by a beam of purple energy into a warehouse but the experience still hit Terry sharply as he felt as though his body crashed into the unforgiving floor. That said instead of shattered bones he simply felt the wind knocked out of him for a few moments before he got his bearings.

Almost reflexively, Terry scrambled to his feet as if to prove he hadn't just suddenly died, he wobbled slightly before righting himself and taking stock of his surroundings. It reminded him of the aftermath of many a party, he didn't recognise very many of the people here and everyone seemed to be trying to piece together the events prior. Closest to him was a guy talking to two women, they seemed the most adjusted so either they knew what the fuck had happened or they were the first to get up.

"Araminta, never heard of it? Well, neither did a lot of people, girl." The guy said, he was clearly a local then but Terry couldn't really place him. He recognised one of the women he was talking to as a waitress, maybe at somewhere he did an acoustic set? The other woman escaped him completely, considering she hadn't heard of Pennsylvania's little slice of heaven she clearly wasn't from around here.

"Right." Terry said, rubbing his head slightly and hobbling over to the group. "It's distinguishing characteristics is some railway lines and the fact that it looks like a half-assed Norman Rockwell painting."

Terry looked around, the woman had said something about Florida that much he'd made out previously.

"Real question is, why would some people from a shithole in Pennsylvania and a different state entirely all get brought here..."

Placing his hands in his pockets, Terry's expression stiffened as he tried to find anything notable about this place that he recognised. This warehouse was cold and unfamiliar to him, he certainly didn't remember playing some kind of show out here at any point. Man, he really wished he had a lighter with him right about now.

David's apartment, Downtown Araminta

"Thirty nine...forty. Whoo boy, time to hit the showers."

David pulled the towel he'd been using as an exercise mat from the floor and wrapped it around his neck. A sheen of perspiration covered his toned, slightly flabby body, the evening sun shining in through his windows as the journalist grabbed his bottle of water and chugged a few good gulps from it. His new exercise regime was hard, geared towards older men whose bodies weren't as young and sprightly as they'd used to be, but he'd managed it. And today was only the end of the first week! He was definitely making progress but there was no doubt in his mind that he was going to ache all over tomorrow.

He took a hot shower and busied himself with his evening's preparations; he was supposed to meet his colleagues from the Araminta Daily at a pub nearby for a night of beer and good food. Only the best dinner plans were with colleagues, old friends of many years. And, as usual, he was packing his essentials into his satchel bag; never left home without his journal and his camera, like the good reporter he was. In case he needed to write down an idea for an article, or the evening's sunset was particularly beautiful, he had the tools of his trade at hand. The ethereal smoke that poured from his bag was a reminder how much memories were stored within his treasured camera, and as he grabbed the keys to his apartment from the bowl next to the door, he patted his bag with a smile on his face. Always a good time for photos.

As he left, he called one of his friends. Hopefully they'd gotten seats already; his editor was a notorious stickler for punctuality and everyone in the office knew it. After the second ring, he heard Fred pick up.

"Frederick here."

"Fred! It's Dave, I'm on my way over. You got a place already?"

"Of course! I'm the only one here but I'm sure the others are on their way. I hope you don't mind that I've already started drinking."

"Hey man, that's not cool. At least wait for everyone to get there before you start with a beer."

"Drinking water, David."

There was a moment in which David paused what he was doing. Then a wide, cheeky grin spread over his face as he laughed.

"God damn it, Freddy. That was a lame joke and you know it."

"Hey man, it's what men of our age are best at."

"Fred you're five years younger than me. You shut your trap."

Both men laughed as David exited the apartment block and began walking down the street. At least, that was what he was about to do when a loud crack split the silence of the evening. The sound reverberated through the downtown area and David could see glass windows wobbling in their frames as he whipped his head around to where he'd heard the crash come from. Without much clue, even with his...strange powers, David saw nothing amiss in the direction that he'd heard the noise from.

"Holy shit!"

"You heard that too, David?"

"Yeah. Holy shit what was that?"

"Don't know. You gonna check that out?"

He bit his lower lip. Work? Or a night out with friends? He gave it a moment, made a decision and then pressed his phone back to his face.

"Yeah. Tell the boys I'll be late. Or I might not even-"

And then he saw it. An unnatural pillar of purple light that shone from the source of the noise, engulfing anything in its path. It took David a moment but, as he turned to run from the advancing wall of light, it consumed him in his entirety.

"David? David?! David! Oh shit."

???

David started awake on a cold, concrete floor. Face down, with a sense of vertigo and dizziness filling his head, along with all the aches of being thrown bodily onto concrete. He slowly raised himself to a sitting position and rubbed his eyes in an effort to get himself back up to fully functional, even as he heard the voices of other people around him. With his vision clear, he looked around the room.

Surrounding him were several people in various states of panic; mostly young men and women that he didn't recognise, save for two. One, the unconscious form of Archie Anderson, a man with a tragic past that David had covered many years ago. The other? Jaden Dominguez. One of the victims of the Horde that had survived his encounter with the crazed serial killer. He'd carried out the interview himself; had Jaden in an interview room at the Araminta Daily offices while his colleagues talked to his friends. The story had made headlines, of course, but there was an inner strength to the young man that he admired.

David stood, dusted off his front, made sure all his things were where he'd had them, before pulling his camera out of his satchel to hang it around his neck. This warehouse... It felt wrong, being in here. David didn't like it, especially as he trained his supernatural sight across the walls and ceiling. It felt like a minute, almost imperceptible wrongness, like when a picture frame is ever so slightly off center, or a minor detail on a painting is out of place. It didn't sit well with him and it made him frown.

"Well kids, wherever we are, it's probably Araminta. But something feels real off about this place."

He turned to face the small handful of young men and women who were awake, Jaden among them.

"You guys saw it too? Loud crash, bright purple light?"

Archie

Sunset on the river was beautiful, as always. The spectrum of colors reflecting on the water brought a desperately needed sense of peace, though never quite enough. The tranquility and the song of nature as it could only be experienced here was exactly what the sole man aboard was after. It was why he'd purchased the boat four years ago. Initially it had been to do something new and exciting, but lately Archie had found it akin to an escape. A way to forget his old life and find a place that didn't remind him of anything anymore. It was like his retirement. Early—but unavoidable, and entirely necessary these days.

The deck chair held him up, and the cooler at his elbow held everything he needed: cold beer inside and something to nibble on, on top. He had enough for another week away from port stowed in the cabin if he really wanted— longer if he rationed. There was nothing to do but enjoy the sunset. As the sun dipped below the horizon and became a sliver, the color he loved and loathed painted the sky. The rich purple bloomed, contrasting ever so beautifully with the candy blue aftertones of the day, and the ache in his chest mirrored it. He missed them. Still. He would for the rest of his life.

"You still want to know why sunset is important to me?"

She had nodded, her hands fidgeting away- so used to the constant busying caused by one baby girl.

Archie took a long sip before he answered. "Just after the sun vanishes under the horizon the sky turns the same color as your eyes. For a moment it takes me back to that first night at that dirty little dive when I fell in love with the girl at the bar. Or when my little girl held my fingers for the first time in the hospital."

She was grinning now, and despite the fact that she was no longer the twenty-something stranger drinking alone but rather the mother of his child, she reminded him of something free and wild and completely untamable. She'd go where the wind blew her, flowing with the tides, but she'd always come back to what she loved. She was beautiful and funny and smart and dazzling and everything. She had given him everything.

"What?"

He gave her a grin. "Nothing."

This was the time of day he lived for. Masochistic, yes, but he had nothing else. His life was wandering the river's byways, ferrying tourists and fishermen around for a little extra cash when he wasn't working in the shop. A far cry from his evenings, where every moment was adrenaline-filled mania. When he made port, Archie did his banking, resupplied, and took on a few holiday-makers before setting out to sea again. He'd dump them at whatever port they wanted and be gone as soon as he got his pay. Then it was him, the water, and the sunset until he ran out of provisions if so desired. It was a simple life.

Well, him and it. The other reason he had spent so much time on the boat. Away from everything and everyone else.

It came in waves, like a sickness that just wouldn't fade. He felt it pulling at the edges of his vision sometimes, an inky blackness that tunneled his vision and darkened the world. Those cotton candy blues and grand reds and purples faded into nothing and he was temporarily robbed of the one thing he lived for. Instead he saw hazy outlines and sparks and signatures of the physical world around him. Pinpoint flashes that were terribly raw in his dark world. He always hated when it happened, but he was able to resist. Sometimes.

A hand raised up to his chest instinctively, and the war drum that was his heart calmed some. Even if it screamed, it wouldn't come out. Not now.

But it didn't listen, not fully at least. A wave of nausea washed over him and in the fleeting moment he had before his vision darkened once more- he could see that the purple was no longer of the sky, but instead a flash. He felt his ears pop, and Archie felt this odd sensation of having dropped about ten feet, like a plane depressurizing. There was some sort of crashing sound, and his preternaturally powerful ears heard what was possibly the loudest sound he had ever heard- it was like a freight train was passing directly by him, but it was coming from every direction at once, including above and below. Archie screamed, but he couldn't even hear himself over this deafening roar. His blind eyes dashed around in his head in an attempt to see something, the source of the sound, but couldn't. He felt tendrils extend from his body- feeble as they might have been at this stage in a change, they still tried to do what they could- constricting around handrails and whatever they could ensnare themselves on. But whatever was pulling him away wasn't physical. He felt gravity throw him in different directions.

Then, as suddenly as it had started, it stopped, like someone threw a switch and cut it off. He couldn't see again yet, but he felt the cold grit of what had to have been concrete against his skin. He laid there for a second, perfectly still, and slowly the normal sounds of the world came back. As his vision returned, his suspicion was confirmed, but he did not move until that inky black pollutant drained away from his blackened veins and returned them to their normal color. Archie could feel others in the room, and even if they had seen some of his body's unnatural behavior, he didn't want them to see any more than he could help.

Archie propped himself up on his elbow, and groggily looked around- identifying no one but the Jaden person that he had read about- a survivor of the horde, and his friend David who seemed no worse for wear and was already getting up and dusting himself off. Despite the man being many years his senior, he was more spry than Archie was. But, credit where it was due- if he heard the noise that Archie had, it probably didn't sound like the end of the fucking world. When he spoke, he confirmed Archie's guess that he too had heard the noise. But what kept his attention was the comment.

It felt familiar. Like Araminta, but not. Archie scanned the room in an attempt to find some sort of tell, but couldn't quite place what made it feel more like home than Araminta itself had in a long time.

You tell me.

Kayla

Growing up alone had been, for lack of better wording, rough.

Granted, she hadn't been alone alone, if you're buying what I'm selling, but Kayla had spent most of her life in quiet solitude. She came in contact with a lot of bodies, and handshakes, and smiles, and laughter, and friendly moments. But a friend was something different. Outside of her dog, she wasn't sure if she would define herself as someone who had any. Sure, she was popular, and everyone knew her. She never didn't have notifications on Snapchat or Instagram and she certainly hadn't ever had to face an issue like unrequited love- but that was a problem in and of itself. She hadn't really felt that level of attraction to anyone yet.

Her uncle had been mostly absent throughout her life. He was always around often enough to have seen her slink into the house so late at night that it was probably best defined as early morning with barely or not at all concealed hickeys. He had certainly been around long enough to pull her out of bad situations with authorities using the silver tongue that she must have gotten from her moms side of the family if he had it. He had been around, but he wasn't involved. Closer to a room mate than a family member. Maybe that's why he didn't have a family of his own. Maybe he didn't want one. Maybe his casual avoidance was simply his best way of dealing with the unfortunate situation that they had found themselves in. Her with dead parents, and him with their kid.

Kayla kicks a rock in front of her a few times and marvels at the ark and bounce that it follows along the street. Fending for herself so much throughout her life had been pretty lonely, and with no family and most people being uninteresting she had always wanted a pet for the company. She came home from the hospital after a pipe bomb gone wrong and asked her uncle for at least a fish for what had to have been the six thousandth time in her life, except that that time he'd said yes.

In the rare moments of familial camaraderie, Uncle Milo usually insists that she'd been using the hospitalization as a woe-is-me move to manipulate him into buying her a pet, but that's not true at all. She'd just wanted some company. If he had felt so guilty and worried over her despondency that they'd been practically obligated to cave in and get her a dog, well, that's purely coincidental. Assuming that was even the case. Kayla would put just as much money on the idea that he was sick of her bothering him.

In any case, they'd driven to the pet store that evening and she was promised they wouldn't leave until she'd found something fluffy to call her own. Milo had immediately started trying to sell her on the giant Labradors in the corner, until he'd overheard her trying to get a parakeet to say 'Milo is a dumb ass'. Things went downhill from there.

With her uncle successfully distracted by the clerk, who was now chewing him out over a bird being taught to curse (she hadn't even had to employ her knock-over-shelves-like-dominoes strategy, which was lucky because she did that in Walmart once and it didn't go well), Kayla had slipped away to the back of the shop. That was where they kept the outcast animals who would probably get put down because they were vicious or ugly or old, so of course they were the ones who Kayla felt like she would relate to the most.

Apart from some serious sympathy and this horrible tugging on her heartstrings that made Kayla want to take every single one home with her, she hadn't felt anything special for any of them until she'd reached the end of the room. There'd been this tiny grey and white ball of fur in a cage that started snarling at her the second she'd gotten close, and she'd been about to move on when it had very suddenly taken interest. Despite herself, Kayla just knew then, because she knew that look of hesitant curiosity and unbridled rage at the world for the situation they had ended up in. The puppy had fought the attendant every step of the way, and she had nearly lost a finger to the spitfire's tiny puppy teeth when she had unsuccessfully tried to pet the dog. "Kayla," her uncle had started, "are you sure that you…?" he'd trailed off at the way Kayla was looking at her new friend, and didn't make a move to restart objections after that. He had glanced longingly at the panting golden retrievers in the corner but otherwise didn't complain.

And so they'd become friends. It'd taken maybe two weeks for Oleander to go from being the fierce, unholy offspring of rage and muscle to a husky that was so harmless and playful. Seriously, this one time he killed a lizard accidentally and wouldn't get out of bed for days. It had been three years since then.

But make no mistake, Oleander was a horrible creature. He's got this ever-present look of absolute smugness on his stupid ugly face and he takes up well over half the bed even though he's like sixty pounds. He refuses to dance with Kayla whenever she's in music mode, he throws a hissy fit every time Kayla's too busy to pet him, he knocks everything over if he so much as hears the word 'walk', he practically flops if you scratch him under the chin, he's terrified of snakes, and he won't even look at any type of dog food that isn't beef flavored. Kayla's pretty sure that having a diet lacking chicken and turkey and, you know, variety is probably bad for the dog but he's got big blue eyes and a great begging face and Kayla is weak.

As much as Kayla hates Oleander and every day regrets choosing him over a talking bird that could insult her uncle or other anyone she might one day consider a friend, she's serenaded the dog with Queen's You're My Best Friend more than a couple of times and she's pretty sure that makes them bonded for life. Besides, Oleander may be a terrible living being but he's a great cuddler and Kayla can no longer fall asleep without him.

That doesn't redeem the fact that Oleander is the worst listener in the world, though. To her venting, I mean. The dog was scary intelligent, and half of their days were spent training together. She'd have to consider a dog competition one day, but until then the town would just have to settle for her not leaving a path of chaos wherever she went in the meantime.

If Oleander had been around, maybe that great flash of purple light and otherworldly bang wouldn't have caught her by surprise- because in one moment she had gone from spray painting a mural and kicking a rock around to face first into the concrete of a strange warehouse in god knows where. She had eaten shit before, mostly while skating. She had a nice scar on the bridge of her nose and what had once been cut from a split chin to prove it. But she hadn't eaten shit like this before. It wasn't so much as the fall, rather it felt like her shit had been rocked.

She sat up, a bit woozy but experienced enough in getting hurt to know that she was unharmed. She looked around and saw that there were several people like her around, all of various ages and in various states of stunned. There was one man just to her right who she recognized as the repairman from Araminta. She had visited more than a few times to get something fixed or to have her truck repaired. He looked a bit worse for wear compared to the rest of the people in the room- and his veins were a spiderweb of black that rapidly retreated underneath his clothes.

Kayla furled her brow. Was he high? Or tweaking or something? She had never seen any drugs do that, and she had tried quite a few. She was on her feet quickly, and thankfully whatever the man had been suffering from seemed to have lost its affect because Mr. Anderson had gone from prone to sitting- albeit slowly. She extended her hand to the larger man.

"You okay, Mister Anderson?" she questioned. Archie took her hand in a somewhat jerky fashion, as if his muscles were stiff and twitchy still. Cocaine, maybe meth? She could see him having a meth lab, maybe. She pulled him up.

"Yeah." Archie said, shaking his hand out. "I think whatever took me here had a weird affect on me." he explained. Kayla shifted her weight uneasily, but didn't press. She shrugged. "You looked rough."

"I feel rough."

She grinned at that, and Archie offered her a small smile for her benefit. But just like Oleander she saw the look in his eyes and knew it well, deep within herself. She watched Archie as he stepped away from her and placed a hand on another man's shoulder. What was his name? David something? Had a camera when she saw him around town. Probably took pictures of kids at schools or something.

Kayla looked around. She recognized this warehouse, she had defamed and damaged it many times with rocks and spray paint and drug deals and impromptu fires with people who were looking for a good time in high school.

"This isn't right." She said casually, tuning into Jaden, Kaitie, and Terry's conversation. "If this is the warehouse I think it is, there should be a massive red white and blue dick drawn with spraypaint on that wall." she said, throwing a thumb being her to one of her many independence day excursions. That one had taken a few people in her age group to pull off, and while the beer had made it more fun, she couldnt remember the people she had done it with. "And there would be tire marks all over the floors from people doing burnouts."

This place was right, but wrong. Like a memory of a place rather than what it actually was. "Where the fuck are we."

Abigail lay quite still and listened to the voices of the other people, her forearm still covering her face as she breathed deeply. It was only when she heard footsteps approach and felt something nudge her in the ribs that she removed her forearm and found herself staring up the nostrils of a man she'd never seen before. She blinked a few times. "Yo, wake up," he said to her as she sat up and looked around the building with a grimace. Her gaze slipped from person to person with growing bewilderment as she stood, stumbling a little to collect her balance, and dusted off her jacket. Instead of sticking around to make conversation Abigail hurried for the exit and stepped out, crossing the threshold to try and seek out a path or a road to follow.

"Real question is, why would some people from a shithole in Pennsylvania and a different state entirely all get brought here..."

Jaden narrowed his eyes at the statement as he eyed a tattoo on the fat Asian chick's neck. He couldn't see the rest of her body but he doubted her prim ass would have a tattoo on her neck. Not any regular tattoo. He turned his head back towards Terry as he said, "... I got an idea." Not an idea he was going to act on, of course. The last thing that Jaden wanted was his little secret getting out to the wrong. The guy didn't exactly look like the kind of guy he wanted knowing his secrets. Given that he looked like some 80's greaser or whatever the fuck those white people call it. Jaden called it being greasy.

"Well," Rita said with a raised eyebrow as she looked at the group. "It's still not ringing a single fuckin' bell." She ran a hair through her hair as she looked around.

"Don't bother, girl," Katie said, hoping that she wasn't being too rude. Instead of standing around grasping at straws, she decided to consult her cellphone. Fortunately, she didn't lose it when she ended up here and after unlocking it she immediately realized there were no bars. There was no connection out here which was weird given that, despite all odds, even the most desolate parts of Araminta had a connection. She looked around and she saw tons of buildings so they weren't out in the middle of the woods.

"Well kids, wherever we are, it's probably Araminta. But something feels real off about this place."

"Kid?" Was the first thing that Jaden said when he turned his head towards David... he recognized this guy. He recognized him well. After the shitstorm with that crazy fucker with a knife, David interviewed him and while Jaden wasn't exactly the type to talk to the man; Cierra talked him into it. However, Jaden didn't exactly feel friendly with the guy. Nor did he look forward to their next "reunion".

"... I wouldn't be so quick to say that." Katie quietly said to herself as she stared at her cellphone for a few moments before locking it and putting it away. Kaitlyn was already convinced that there's something off about this place. She was wondering if that abstraction of hers still worked here, but much like Jaden, she didn't want to risk her secret getting out. Katie didn't have a good idea or plan in her head. Katie didn't recognize the guy or most of the people here.

"You guys saw it too? A loud crash, bright purple light?"

Katie nodded her head as she was quiet. It was obvious that it was some kind of supernatural occurrence, but what and how? And more importantly, why are they all sent here? Katie Liao knew that the answer...

She looked around at the destroyed warehouse.

Was not here.

"Yeah, saw that shit with my own two eyes!" Jaden said as he threw his hands behind his head. "Shit came from the woods somewhere, I don't know the fuck it was."

"Well..." Rita trailed off. "Only light I saw was the headlights of the car that was about to run me over." She rolled her eyes.

"It's obvious you ain't from around here, girl," Jaden said, bored. "Don't get to keep remindin' us."

"This isn't right." She said casually, tuning into Jaden, Kaitie, and Terry's conversation. "If this is the warehouse I think it is, there should be a massive red white and blue dick drawn with spraypaint on that wall."

"Of course the first thing to clue ya' in that something's wrong is the lack of a spraypainted dick." Jaden laughed. Of course, he wouldn't know because he doesn't hang around these parts. This looked like the part of Araminta where the methheads and prostitutes fucked each other. If he was the one pointing out something was wrong he'd probably notice the lack of used needles, broken condoms, and a methed out tweaker in the corner. He looked around, speaking of a methed out tweaker, he noticed a girl on the ground. She didn't get up yet so Jaden decided to give her a prod. Just to make the magic light didn't kill her or anything. He walked up to her and gave her a light kick, saying, "Yo, wake up."

And that's what she did. She woke up and walked the fuck off. Jaden shrugged as he figured he should go do the same, but he had a feeling that wasn't going to end well. "Maybe one of you females should do your thing and go after her."

"Why don't you do it?" Rita asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Hey, I know better than to follow some white girl around," Jaden said with a grin only to earn eye rolls from Rita. "Next thing you know the law's gonna be on my ass, and she'll be saying 'He was stalking me, eeee!' while they put on the cuffs."

He shook his head.

Agatha Loom

Agatha crept through the internet. It was getting late in the evening, and she only had fifteen or so minutes of computer-time left before grandpa kicked her off.

In her usual inquisitive nature, she spent the last week or so looking into various strange phenomena around Araminta. No, not anything right out in the open like the Black Shuck, or the supposed Horde killings, no. Those were too obvious. Instead, she did her investigation by rummaging through the lesser occurrences around Araminta. Woman wins lottery and quits job, Turns out ticket was a dud. Strange lights across river: Myth or Marvel? Almost every day there was some bizarre thing that demanded further inquiry.

As she continued rummaging through, she had increasing difficulty in reassuring herself against the idea of being crazy. Moreover, she tried looking into the origin of her own amulet, one that she still continued to wear around her neck. Where had it come from? Why had it sealed away the Thing it had within? She went across a wide range of sources-- Jewelry websites, forums, lost property rewards, nothing. No rhyme or reason to the amulet or it's make. After almost three months, her search turned up nothing. And she had a faint idea in the back of her mind, that for every place she went searching, trying to find answers, practically shouting in a crowded digital room for info, she was making a trail for herself. A trail that someone could follow.

And it seemed very well that someone finally followed it through.

The slightly-setting sun cast a light upon the room. She didn't catch first glance, but noticed the sudden spike in luminosity, turning her head out the window. Just as she spun in her chair and opened the curtains, the towering pillar of light had blinded her in engulfing light, before the world went black.

Tristan Douge

Tristan had completely abandoned a conventional sleep cycle. Between investigating The Horde, understanding his abilities, and working to deliver just desserts to the bastards in this town, his sleeping pattern had practically evolved/devolved into "lay down when tired, stand up when not".

He first thought it was early morning when he woke up on the couch, given the dim level of light outside. Then, quick look at the microwave clock later, nope. Nearly 7pm, fuck. Tristan sighed. He opened the fridge, grabbing a glass from the cupboard before pouring himself a cup of milk. He then stepped over to the front cabinet, leaning down to open it and pulling out the chocolate syrup. Opening the drawer next to him, he pulled out a spoon. After pouring a good amount of syrup into the glass of milk, he spun it with his spoon with one hand, pulling out his phone with the other and checking the Araminta Times for any updates...

... Nope, no murders or anything else notable happened since he fell asleep. Well, that was a brief reassurance. Looks like the whole town didn't completely hinge on Tristan having his eyes open. Once he finished stirring, he tossed the spoon in the dishwasher and picked up the glass, taking a sip as he turned around to gaze out the window to the barely-setting sun. And that's when he noticed the massive beam of light erecting, off in the distance...

Was it getting bigger?

???

Before Agatha fully returned to consciousness, she heard a brief interplay of voices around her. Like that feeling when your body is awake, but your mind is still asleep. A good two or three minutes passed, and Agatha resumed consciousness, finding herself in an abandoned warehouse, with several other people, some still asleep, others waking up. A few were even in the state of still waking up as she was in.

Agatha immediately panicked, refusing to take in any further details as she loudly gasped, sitting up and rolling herself backwards until she slid up against the wall, looking around in absolute panic and terror.

"Oh Jesus Christ, What the hell was that light?! You said you guys all saw it too? What the fuck are we doing here? They're after us, aren't they?! We're all gonna fucking die, aren't we?!" Agatha quickly asked and declared, looking around her surroundings while breathing heavily.

Tristan reawoke soon after, taking his apparent kidnapping much better. To him, it was just another couple minutes of rest.

"Ngh... Shit. Where the hell are we? You guys saw that beam of light too, right?" He asked, as he rose back to his feet, stumbling before managing to maintain a proper stance.

He saw one of the people in the warehouse, a girl, just storm out through the front door. Oh, so they weren't locked in? Tristan heard some people mumble to themselves about stopping her-- Something about not doing it because of racism? Fuck that, it was almost dark. Shouldn't just go out there alone. Tristan followed her to the door.

"Hey! Where the hell are you going?! It's almost night, you can't just wander around all by yourself, it's fucking dangerous!" He called, following her out, taking the opportunity to take in their surroundings properly.

As more and more people got their bearings, Terry inwardly took back regretting not being able to have smoked up. In hindsight, the amount of people talking, moving around and asking questions would have probably frazzled his head. He tried taking stock of the new arrivals as best as his memory could allow. Older looking guy, young girl, hysterical girl, rough looking gu-. Actually, to Terry's surprise he found himself recalling two of the new arrivals, the rough looking guy was Tristan, he and Terry weren't terribly close but he'd definitely seen Tristan around in the lower income neighbourhoods. He also recognized a girl who had joined the conversation detailing her history of abuse towards warehouses, Kristen? Kylie? He'd smoked with her that much he was certain of, perhaps they'd hung out more when Terry's sources of rebellion revolved around spray paint and bricks.

Regardless, Terry focused on what Jaden had said with considerable curiosity.

"I got an idea." Jaden had replied, eyeing up the Asian girl with pretty noticeable suspicion. Terry at first didn't see anything strange until he spotted the tattoo on her neck. Ordinarily he'd chalk it up to a regular person's flimsy idea of rebellion but the shape and style stood out blatantly to him. It looked akin to a wave of water, causing him to glance down at his right hand and examine his own newly acquired "tattoo" as well. They weren't the same shape and it didn't quite prove anything but someone like her having a tattoo wasn't common nor was the symbol either. The suspicion that Jaden had shown it made Terry look back at him more closely. He didn't notice any tattoo visible on him but the tone of his voice and the way he focused on Katie's tattoo showed he obviously knew what they meant at the very least.

As Terry silently wondered what their symbols meant, that little girl he'd clocked earlier had been kicked by Jaden and suddenly darted towards the exit. For someone so young she seemed pretty blase about being teleported into fuck knows where. She was either supremely confident, in the know about something or some kind of idiot as far as Terry was concerned. Still, he personally wouldn't want her death or injury on his conscious.

"Maybe one of you females should do your thing and go after her." Jaden said in regards to the girl. Between some obvious sexism, suspicious character and prickish demeanour, Terry's conscious would have been a lot clearer if this guy had decided to run out and risk getting himself killed instead of that girl.

Tristan yelled after the girl and began following her. Saying it wasn't dangerous to go it alone at this time of night. While inclined to agree, Terry figured the whole teleportation thing would be a better reason to not start splitting up than the time of day. That and he didn't fancy the implication of being stuck with all these people until day broke but one thing at a time.

"If none of us know where the hell we are It'd probably be in our best interests not to go all lone wolf. At least until we all figure out where we are and if that purple lightshow's brought us somewhere dangerous." He said, following slowly behind Tristan. He wasn't sure if either of them could hear him or would bother to respond if they did but at least the larger group could hopefully get behind it so they could start working towards leaving this place.

Actually, Terry took it back inside. Had he gotten high he wouldn't have to involve himself at all and could've just let this shit pass him by and have the others deal with it.

"If none of us know where the hell we are It'd probably be in our best interests not to go all lone wolf. At least until we all figure out where we are and if that purple lightshow's brought us somewhere dangerous."

"Strength in numbers, yeah?" Jaden agreed. He took a few steps off to the side and shrugged as he said, "But if ya'll want to go it alone, be my guess. Everyone here's an adult... I think."

"Hey! Where the hell are you going?! It's almost night, you can't just wander around all by yourself, it's fucking dangerous!"

Jaden merely watched the weirdo run off after the girl. Jaden sighed. This guy was probably fucking nuts - and he looked like the kind of guy that liked little girls. Now, while Jaden was relatively good at putting up the front of somebody who, well, just doesn't give a fuck he'd hate to see this little girl end up getting hacked to pieces.

"Goodness fuckin' gracious," Jaden said as he tore off after Tristan. Because he was somebody Jaden was gonna judge by his fuckin' cover! Also, Jaden was getting tired of everyone standing around, jerking off, asking the same two fucking questions over and over again! Yes, there was a beam of light, yes they're in a warehouse. Probably not in Araminta. He followed them out of the place because the faster they get out of here the better.

Katie, ultimately, decided to stay behind with the group. Namely the rambling one over here. The girl was tall... probably taller than her late grandmother. She raised an eyebrow when she said that "they" were after them. A small part of her wondered if she should ask. Another, bigger, part of her wondered if she was crazy. Either way, Katie walked over to the girl and put her hand on her shoulder and softly said,

"Calm down," Katie said, short and to the point. "You're acting crazy."

Rita, on the other hand, was confused. She heard another girl's voice in her head speaking. A mass of panicked thoughts and emotions that are not her own. It sounded a little bit like the girl that was raving and now... she was wondering if she was going crazy herself. Rita tried to downplay it.

"Yeah, calm your giant ass down," Rita said with an awkward smirk. "If anyone has been abducted by aliens, it's me."

"I think we should get a move on," Katie suggested, as she looked at the sun and saw it going down at a rate most would consider... unnatural.

Hey, ain't it a lil' weird that a bunch of dudes are following a girl around.

Jaden thought to himself as their little group marched up the hill. This was not right. Not one fuckin' bit. They're walking down the streets of Araminta's industrial section, and there ain't been a single methhead or hooker.

And well, nobody for that matter.

Araminta has never been this... desolate. Even at night, somebody is hanging around doing their thing. There was that creeping feeling here - very creepy - that they aren't in Araminta. Everything looks so familiar, though? What else could this plac-

The group reached the top of the hill and Jaden's jaw just dropped. He finally got the answer he was looking for as he saw, at the top of the hill, an anomaly not seen in any Araminta he knows! It was a massive chasm in front of him that stretched miles. He leaned forward to look down one end and he couldn't even see that shit! He looked down and all he saw was darkness. What was the weirdest part of the chasm was the fact that it didn't seem like it was carved out of the ground or anything. The roads, the buildings, and trees warped downwards as if it was normal. Before the chasm became complete darkness Jaden could see some buildings coming out of the side of the chasm. Naturally, Jaden raised an eyebrow. The other side of the chasm wasn't that far away. Hell, he could jump that shit all day long. Not that he was going to risk falling down a bottomless pit.

"... Okay, I think we got the answer to all the 'Where da' fuck are we' questions."

Araminta?

David straightened his jacket as the others filed out of the warehouse to follow a strange-looking girl that had woken up in the midst, prodded by Jaden's toe. As they left the warehouse, David took the opportunity to frame a shot; the backs of the group facing him, contrasted by the sheer, empty wrong that was the warehouse walls and ceiling. His finger depressed the shutter and his camera clicked as it snapped a photo. Satisfied with his work, David let his camera fall to his chest as he followed the others out.

The sun set at a rapid pace in this weird world, confirming his suspicions that they weren't in Araminta any more. But some weird, otherworldly semblance of it. Even as he emerged into the cool night air, the sense of dread and wrongness that he'd felt in the warehouse only grew greater. They were in the industrial district, devoid of any crackheads, junkies or hobos pestering him for change. David took the opportunity to snap another photo of the place, using his flash to illuminate the sheer, almost impossible level of isolation that came from being the only ones in the district. As the group moved forward, David pulled his cellphone from his pocket but found that it had no reception or service, only serving to compound his suspicions. But it was the sight that awaited him atop the hill they climbed that well and truly told him everything he needed to know.

It was like the world was divided in twain; a yawning chasm dominated the city street ahead of them, except the chasm wasn't due to any earthquake. Rather, it seemed like someone had taken a wedge and shoved it into a rubber version of his home. Buildings, streets and structures curved down into an impossible space, twisted by the curvature of the valley within, ignoring all bounds of the realm of physics.

It made for a damn good photo.

David raised his camera to frame the dark, unnatural abyss within his lens and snapped another photo, before letting it fall to his chest as he ran a hand through his hair.

"Well... We're not in Araminta any more, that's for sure. But then where the heck are we?"

Abigail moved with measured purpose. She cast a brief look over her shoulder at Tristan calling after her but, still bewildered, she hurriedly ignored his calling. Her trainers crunched under the gravel of the empty lot just outside of the warehouse and onto the path, then the tarmac of the road. She heard another voice - another man - call disapprovingly against her behaviour. She exhaled sharply through her nostrils and tugged on the hem of her jacket and walked a little brisker as it became increasingly apparent that she was less worried about what was out there...and more afraid of the warehouse and its inhabitants. Especially after she flinched when David’s camera shutter went off and went just a little faster.

Nobody had yet jogged up to her level and Abigail hid her discomfort by sort of hunching her shoulders as she walked, behaving defensively. She could hear the footfalls of other people following her as she crested the hill. Her pace slowed and stopped as she reached the chasm, staying a good few feet away from it, peering down at it as she took a shaky breath and exhaled. Jaden, Tristan and David had caught up to her. She was quiet for a while then loosely gestured to the vertical buildings. “My, uh. My carers are down there,” she offered up to nobody in particular, as if vocalising it would magically procure a solution.

When that didn’t happen and she heard David’s shutter snap shut, she jolted again and wheeled onto him in moments. “Okay-no. No, stop doing that.” Her hand half-raised to push the camera away from her until he dropped it. “No more pictures of me, okay? Delete any you took of me just now. It’s fucking-...I’m sixteen. Can put you in jail for it. Shhhit,” she hissed the last curse under her breath as her head jerked back to the sudden drop. She stood and stared. She kicked a little piece of gravel off the precipice and listened to it bounce and rattle as it cracked against walls and porches.

“Fuckin’...Silent Hill piece’ashit…” Abigail muttered under her breath as she fumbled in her jacket pocket and pulled out a half-empty carton of Newports and a pink zippo lighter. Her hands were disgusting; her nails were markedly shorter and the fingertips all frayed, peeling and scabby. Her thumb still held the smear of congealed blood where she had chewed it earlier. It took her several attempts to light her menthol because her hands were trembling so much. Abigail took a long drag and exhaled a plume of minty tobacco smoke, squinting up at the plummeting sun with apprehension. She wiped her eyes with her free hand and looked around at the gathering, on the brink of tears. “M’not staying round here when it gets dark,” she shakily declared, and started traipsing down the hill again at a brisk pace to hide the odd tear or two rolling down her cheeks. Once she reached the warehouse front again she turned a corner and leant against one of its walls to finish her cigarette, cracking the capsule between her fingers. After a second or two she slowly slid down the wall and drew her knees to her chest, breathily sobbing into her free hand, the cigarette dangling loosely out of the other as she went through the motions of processing what’s happened to her.

Tristan Douge

"Jesus." Tristan shook his head, as he and the rest of the group climbed over the hill, and saw the massive chasm that cut straight through the city. Welp, so much for just running right back along home. The Chasm itself was weird enough, stretching infinitely on to both horizons, as far as they could see. The actual distance towards the other end wasn't too far, but Tristan got the feeling neither he wasn't alone in thinking that jumping just wasn't worth the risk.

"... Okay, I think we got the answer to all the 'Where da' fuck are we' questions" Jaden deduced.

"Well... We're not in Araminta any more, that's for sure. But then where the heck are we?", Said David, the reporter. He vaguely remembered them. Not soon after Anne died he came down, asking a few questions. Not that he was any fucking help at the time. He'd been snapping pictures since they got there, enough to make the girl that led them out of the warehouse uncomfortable enough to turn back the way they came. Enough to make the girl Tristan left after uncomfortable enough to run off back the way they came.

"Well, I see two possibilities. One, the world just ended. Two, we died and we're in hell", Tristan mused, folding his arms and turning his attention towards him. Most of the others in their group started kicking rocks and pushing gravel, as if just to tell how deep the chasm really was. Shrugging, Tristan decided to test his own hypothesis, leaning over the edge and spitting out a wad of saliva. He then turned and leaned his ear carefully, listening for the drip at the very bottom. After a few seconds, it never came. Standing back to take a more careful look at the chasm, Tristan noticed that the sun was about to set. A hell of a lot faster than it should've. Either that or they were just spending a lot of time standing around like idiots.

"Okay, Fuck. Looks like we're stuck here. In a place that's like, but not quite, home. The sun looks like it's starting to set. Unless one of us has a pair of wings, we're stuck here. If we can't find our way home, we're better off just sticking together until we can figure things out", Tristan pounded out before he turned on his heel and walked back down the hill, "I'm heading back to the warehouse. I really think we should stick together, at least for a little bit."

Tristan returned to the warehouse, which was still packed with most of the survivors.

Agatha Loom

Agatha continued her panicked, exposed breathing, right up until one of them, a large asian woman, decided to finally breathe some sense into her.

"Calm down," The woman softly said, expressing a bit of care yet also absolute intolerance for her bullshit, "You're acting crazy."

"Yeah, calm your giant ass down," Another woman said, a lot more relaxed about the whole situation, if not being outright smug. "If anyone has been abducted by aliens, it's me."

After a brief moment, Agatha finally calmed down. She was being a bit overdramatic. They might have all been in a compromising situation, but being an absolute spaz was a one-way road to nowhere helpful. Her breathing slowed greatly, taking deep breathes and calm recollection.

"Okay, okay. I'm fine... S-Sorry, I just got a little worked up." Agatha apologized, turning her attention to the woman. Once her surroundings weren't a vivid mess, she was actually able to recognize a few faces. The woman consoling her was Kaitlyn. The other girl... She hadn't remembered seeing her before. Maybe she was from out of town?

"Agatha." She introduced herself, holding out a handshake to Kaitlyn before she managed to stand herself back up, brushing herself off.

"I think we should get a move on," Katie suggested, peering out the window. Agatha looked out as well. She saw the sun, still on the horizon, indicating that maybe not that much time had passed at all since they blacked out. What she did note, however, was that it was setting just a smidge faster than it normally would've. Soon enough, night fall would've come down on their heads.

"That's a good idea. Those guys that left a bit earlier would imply that we're not exactly trapped here," Agatha agreed with her, nodding.

"Well... We're not in Araminta any more, that's for sure. But then where the heck are we?"

"Ya' asking the wrong questions to the wrong people," Jaden said as he threw his hands behind his head. However, he got a hint from a little voice in his head.

"... This place is made from the same materials as Araminta," Jaden's sigil glowed brightly through his clothes as his abstraction unknowingly activated. The voice in his head was accompanied by the spectral reflection of Lynette appearing right in front of him. He felt chills go down his spine as he clenched his fist upon seeing his "sister". If that was even his sister. "It's like Araminta, but... not."

"Go away..." Jaden growled as he realized he looked crazy... to the Blind. Little did he know, the other Extra-Normals in the company could perceive the Reflection of his sister. Not that he realized that yet. On cue, the copy disappeared into thin air and he shook his head. Okay, that helped him answer one question as he turned his head towards the distance.

The sun was going down much, much, faster now. Like, darkness was approaching them at a frightening pace. It was almost like it was a wave that hit them. And like a wave, they were under complete darkness in an instant... before all the street lights snapped on. This Araminta was dark and foggy. The sky was, unlike it was during the day, completely dark. There were no stars, no moons... nothing in the sky above them.

However, there were some sounds in the distance no animal they knew of could make.

Before the group could react, three, flesh-colored, tentacles thick as roots appeared out of the chasm. They quickly grabbed onto Kayla, Terry, and Agatha and began yanking them downwards towards the chasm. If one were to take a good hard look; they appeared to have human faces on the side. What was strange was that the faces were different to each member of the group. To Kaitlyn, it had the faces of her brother, mother, grandmother, and other family members on it. To Jaden... it had his deceased sister and Cierra's face.

"What the fuck is that!?" Rita shouted as she fell backward directly on her ass as all she saw on the tentacles was her mother's face. She was scrambling backward as this was nothing that she had ever seen before. "Agatha!"

Jaden was at a loss for words... however, there was something inside of him that turned on and told him to fight. He didn't have too much in terms of weaponry, but he pointed at one of the tentacles with one finger and energy-charged up at his finger-tip. A blue ball about the size of a golf ball came out of his fingertip and hit one of the faces of the one holding Katla head-on... He wondered if this is what happened to Cierra for a moment, but he was going to ask questions later. It caused an impact but it was still holding on.

Katie was confused as to what in the hell was going on herself. These creatures... why did they have her Grandmother's face? She figured it might be a mind game of sorts, so she had to remain focused. She had to get the people free from this thing's grasp so she had an idea of her own. The wave on her neck illuminated with a blue light as lobster claws came out of the ground around Agatha and grabbed onto her very tightly. Stopping her from moving but it'll only last for so long. "Get her free!" Kaitlyn shouted. "I'll buy some time."

Rita was still scared out of her mind and desperately clawing her way backward. Her heart was racing and she wanted to run but that idea didn't cross her mind yet.

Kayla and Archie

Kayla had, for the most part, stuck to the back of the pack. Between feeling generally uncomfortable with the unnatural familiarity of her environment and the otherworldly aspects of this world- she had decided against taking point. Those at the tip of the spear could make the mistakes, she wasn't planning on getting lost or separated. She certainly didn't plan on dying in some strangely warped mirror of what had been her town- she planned to live forever! She brought her gaze to the rapidly setting sun and as night took hold once again, she couldn't help but notice that there were no constellations in the sky- or at least none that she recognized.

She knew all of the constellations.

Dread washed over Kayla at this realization, and her heart sped up as her anxiety took hold. She knew this wasn't home- that much was clear. But something was very, irrevocably wrong here. They weren't in Kansas anymore- and the inhuman screech in the distance only further validated the fight or flight response that was taking over her body.

Kayla took a step back but wasn't able to cover nearly enough distance to avoid what came from that never ending pit. Something snaked from the chasm with unnatural speed, they ran through the crowd in jerky motions, but all at once like they were a pack, or some sort of unit. They didn’t look like they came from animal she had ever studied, let alone from Pennsylvania. The way their muscles moved beneath the thin layer of skin, the way the bones under the appendages- if those were even bones- seemed to stretch with every extension, like they were made of rubber. But it wasn't rubber, or even tentacles for that matter. Her vision was swimming and a part of her knew what she was actually seeing, but all she could comprehend was that Oleander had his jaws around her calf muscle like a vice grip and was yanking and dragging her towards the depths of that pit.

"Ollie, Ollie no! Oleander!" she screamed, trying to pull her leg back. The tentacles- Oleander's jaws bit down harder. The thorns or spikes or- Oleanders teeth dug into her ankle and she heard him snarl into her flesh- yanking harder. She screamed in pain, and in fear and viciously fought to get away. Oleander had always been such a good dog- he would never hurt her. Even when he was a puppy he had never been this rabid. Why was he like this? "Oleander! No, Oleander! Please!" she screamed, tears flowing freely from her eyes now. The dog's canines popped through the denim of her jeans and into her flesh. She felt every canine and incisor puncture her flesh. The dog yanked, first to the right, and then to the left- and Kayla finally stopped clawing at the ground in and effort to get away. She raised her hand as her instincts took over, and screamed as she struck the dog in the face. She sobbed, but continued her onslaught to little effect. Whatever had taken over her Ollie had an iron hold.

She felt resistance again, and out of the corner of her eye she saw a firm hand wrapped around her free arm.

Archie had rushed forwards as soon as he had seen the tentacles come out. He had seen them as soon as they had come over the edge. He could see their muscles spasming and twisting. He saw right through them, completely unaffected by their illusions. But he had been too far behind, and too slow. They had grabbed three people: Kayla, Terry, and Agatha.

Kayla had been the furthest from the pit, and so he reached her first- grasping her arm firmly in his right hand. He stepped forwards and did the same for Terry with his off hand. Archie held their bodies in place, instantly stopping their movement in what had to appear as nothing more than a feat of herculean strength to those around him. In reality, sets of his own tentacles had sprawled out from beneath his feet- sprawling inky black tendrils gouging out and through and deep into the earth like the roots of a tree- anchoring the man in place where he stood. Black surged out from under his shirt, staining the exposed veins and arteries of his arms and neck like watercolor under the skin as he attempted to exert himself without letting go of what little control of what he had. They couldn't see him. He wouldn't let them see what he was. He struggles against himself more than he does the tentacles, the mental exertion making him groan in ragged fury- its desperate its needy its paranoia wrapped in fear with anxiety on top.

Kayla, in a moment of clarity from her pain, digs out a spring assisted pocket knife from her pocket. She stares at Oleander, tears in her eyes, and despite the pain she hesitates and gives the dog, her only friend, a look of dread. She feels her stomach fall. "Oleander-" Its a name its a calling it's a worry its an ask its a prayer to a God she doesn't believe in but would happily sacrifice everything to if it meant she didn't have to do what she was going to do. She brings the knife down wildly on the dog's face, screaming and crying and begging that if someone was up above they would forgive her for killing her only friend because she sure as hell could not. She screamed as the tugging became too much for even Archie's hold. She screamed as the Oleander began disappearing over the edge of that impossible chasm. Its too silent its too loud its too bare its filled with too much its too raw too broken too scared so fucking scared where the fuck is here why the fuck was this happening to her.

Her screams became the roar of flame as a jet of white hot fire streamed from her mouth- illuminating the area with her rage in place of the setting sun. She screamed- tears falling from her eyes and evaporating as soon as they came close to her mouth. Her hands came up and more fire danced from her fingertips and exploded from her hands and feet towards Oleander- who's illusion was shattered as the tentacle was quite literally incinerated by fire so raw and hot that it began melting the rubber and plastic of her shoes. The tentacle's grip was gone, and Kayla jetted back- the fire's propelling force no longer being tethered by some otherworldly force. She launched away from the chasm along the ground, some thirty feet, before her screams and fire stopped. She curled into herself, cradling her injured leg, and sobbed- but was otherwise safe.

Archie was the only one who was not temporarily blinded by the shining light of what was comparable to a second sun- because he was already blind. He couldn't see shit- that impossible void had taken hold of his vision several moments before Kayla had awoken. He had felt her be pulled out his grasp though, and he had definitely felt the heat of her fire, instinctively pulling his now free arm up in an effort to shield himself from the heat. He was sensitive to fire, more so than even the normal person. When the heat disappeared, he grasped Terry under his armpit with his now freed hand in an effort to further anchor him and prevent the younger man's demise.

"David!" Archie yelled, no, roared- to his friend, his voice having taken on otherworldly depth and coarseness. "A little help over here!"

The relentless patter of rain soaked through Terry's thin yellow raincoat, which despite being several sizes too large for his small frame, seemed to offer little protection. Not helping was Terry having to keep his head upwards to avoid any of the blood from his nose dripping down onto his bright blue T-Shirt.

Thankfully, the front door was unlocked as Terry pushed with all the strength he had and near enough fell into the living room. Quickly shutting the door and removing his equally soaked yellow wellington boots before making his way to the kitchen counter and reaching up for the tissues.

"What happened to your bag, Terrence." Came the voice of his father, startling Terry as he quickly turned to find his father sat in his favourite easy chair, face obscured from behind an edition of The Araminta Times. He usually wasn't home this early.

"I.." Terry uttered quietly. He found his voice wavering and grip tightening on his nose as he struggled to keep from crying in front of his father.

"Billy Schmidt hit me and threw it into the lake, Daddy."

Terry sniffed and waited for a lecture or an admonishment or for his father to grab him by the ear and march him back to the lake to fish the backpack out because there was no way they would waste their funds on a new one. Instead his father simply tilted his newspaper slightly and looked at his son with hard, unmistakable eyes behind thick rimmed reading glasses.

"You should have stood up to him, Terrence." His father brought the paper back up to his face.

"Like a man."

The sight of a sky devoid of life deeply perturbed Terry. Just like earlier today when he admired the setting sun, so too did he enjoy the simple pleasure of silently seeing the stars and moon glisten in the night. But here there was nothing, a blank canvas mocking any observer who looked upon it. Oblivion.

Voices rang out and quarrelled, some of the group went elsewhere, most found themselves questioning and fearing the unknowns presented to them from the endless hole in the ground. Terry simply found himself transfixed upon the sun disappearing and that hauntingly empty night swirling above him. He was not broken from this trance until an ear piercing sound rang out from whatever hell this bastardisation of Araminta occupied. No sooner had this happened than an alien appendage burst from the chasm and wrapped itself around Terry's waist, another darting out and sinking what at least looked like teeth into her ankle.

"Shit man! SHIT!" Terry's vision and presence of mind was sloppy as he rained down fists upon what was previously thought to be a formless tentacle. But then, he found his minuscule offence halted by the reflection that looked up at him with those cold, emotionless eyes.

His father's gaze remained as ruthlessly intense as it always had been, but what truly gave Terry frightened pause was his father's mouth. Skin pulled haphazardly over it like a grotesque surgery, his lips nonexistent as though his jaw had been stapled in some manner to the skin just below his nose and yet the top half of his head remained in pristine condition akin to a photograph of the man.

Terry, though not exactly doing any damage to begin with, found his resolve leave him as his flurry stopped. The tentacle wrapped itself around his waist tighter and began to start hauling him upwards but a sudden stop from Archie grabbing Terry's arm brought him back into the moment. Terry used his free arm to again relentlessly batter the face of his "father", his blows still having little effect, that is until Terry's eyes widened and realisation struck him.

Kayla let loose an earth shattering scream as light engulfed the surrounding area and seemed to incinerate the tentacle holding her hostage. Terry let out a yell of his own as he shut his eyes tight to block out the man-made sun. Instead clamping down his hand as tight as possible onto the face of the twisted mockery masquerading as his father and let loose as hard a propulsion of pure sound as he knew he was capable of without losing his voice.

CRACK

The sound blasted directly from Terry's palm onto the tentacle, slamming into it with incredible force and causing it to shoot back limply into the chasm and sending the now free Terry flying into Archie. As far as he could tell, Terry could still hear the panic and yelling of his fellow non-monster residents which meant his voice was intact for the time being. But the sudden burst of his power caused feelings of vertigo to flare up as the world felt it was popping backwards and forwards. Which, considering what had been happening wasn't out of the question.

Terry felt something wet flow down from his nose and found a thin trickle of blood reaching his upper lip. He gingerly brought his, still pulsating and unclear, arm up to his face and wiped away the blood as it went from a thin trickle to a messy line on his right arm.

"Thank you." He said, not being able to make out exactly where Archie was as his eyesight still adjusted but hoping he was at least within earshot.

Tristan Douge
&
Agatha Loom

Tristan hung around near the Warehouse. He shot a few careful glances at each of the other people still lurking about. He saw some of the other people who tried to leave walking back after him-- Either they weren't too indifferent to staying together with the others, or they were equally disappointed by the chasm. He checked most of them carefully, looking for any Aura signs of their misdeeds. Anyone here guilty of something?

After a few empty searches, he decided to stop. No good in trying to pick a bone with people you're stuck with.

He then noticed the sun went from quickly setting to practically gone as a quick wave of darkness washed over them, followed by the streetlights activating. Well that was weird... Apparently the city was abandoned but with perfectly functioning lights?

Moments later, he saw massive, towering tentacles of flesh rising from the Chasm he just left. Massive might have been a bit of an overstatement, but long certainly wasn't. Printed all along them were faces... Faces that, just for a moment, looked too much like-- Fuck. They managed to slink all the way from the short walk to the chasm and straight towards the Warehouse. Tristan lunged out of the way, even though none of them were coming straight for him, landing to the side alley of the warehouse. The tentacles then crashed right into the building, smashing through windows and the door, grabbing a handful of people. The one rocker dude who walked out on trying to follow them, as well as two other girls, one of which being the one that immediately panicked and clung to a wall.

Agatha resumed panic, even greater than before, when the tentacles grasped at her, before pulling her out of the Warehouse and waving her in the air. On them were the faces of her own parents, as well as her grandparents. Her own parent's visage was that of frustration and agony, moaning and growling, contorted with rage and sorrow. Jeffrey's face was mindlessly hollering in ignorant fear, as if it was just as desperate as Agatha was. The only calm visage was her own grandmother's closed eyes and still mouth, resting peacefully amist the confusion. Agatha squirmed helplessly-- The tentacles were extremely thick, holding her in an iron grasp.

Rather than try and fight those things, Tristan's first instinct was to run. Quickly scrambling back up to his feet, Tristan ran as fast as he could away from the warehouse and in the opposite direction of the Chasm and warehouse.

Agatha continued to writhe in panic as she was pulled off to god knows where-- When suddenly, she felt an equivalent force pull back against her, stopping her from being dragged off by the large tendrils. Stilling herself for a moment, she saw a massive pair of blue lobster tentacles pinching the tentacle grasping her, keeping her in place. With yet another wave of renewed Clarity, Agatha saw others using extranormal abilities to defend themselves. A brilliant flash of light nearly blinded Agatha, yet managed to incinerate one of the tentacles abducting Kayla. The man they tried to capture followed suit, with a loud explosion of sound freeing him from his binds.

That's when Agatha found that she didn't need to worry about prudence. Probably shouldn't have in the first place, but still. Agatha reached deep into her mind. There, the Lady Bug buzzed aggressively in panic. Without even another mental word, Agatha pulled themselves together. A wave of blue, wisped light surrounded Agatha, itching down to her very form, before exploding outward in a massive, sedan-sized ladybug as the two beings became one. Just the sudden burst of size might've been enough to break the tentacle's grasp, but for good measure she stabbed into it with her spindly legs, tearing at the facial mockeries embedded along it. For added measure, the lady bug swarm of lady bugs came to her aid, landing on the monster and delivering a series of weak but plentiful bites. The tentacle then let loose and retreated from her, dropping her. She hit the ground with a hard thud, but suffered virtually no damage. After rolling on her back for a bit, she eventually flipped over, rolling upright and letting her antennae shift.

Alright, lets go back, Agatha communicated.

No. Danger. Stay., the Lady Bug disagreed. This prevented the two of them from separating, causing them to remain in the form of a massive ladybug, even as the last of the tentacles dropped their victims and gave apparent sign of retreat...

Everyone was free, and the remaining tentacles retreated into the ground. Jaden sighed as he had to activate his barrier out of instinct to protect himself from the blinding light. So, his suspicion has more or less been confirmed. It wasn't time to think, they had to get the hell out of here. His military instinct was telling him, thanks to Starfire over there's little fire show and the Greaser's little boom, more of them were on the way. The only problem was... this isn't Araminta. Not one bit. Where in the hell do they retreat to?

The girl that Katie was trying to save transformed... into a ladybug? That was almost as strange as the tentacles attacking the group, but Katie pulled it together. She wondered if everyone here was supernatural, but it wasn't important. They had to get the hell out of here.

However, things went from bad to worse real quick. The street lights went completely dark as the group heard a mass of moans and other noises coming from the shadows. Then the lights snapped on and it revealed a horde of monsters coming towards them. The creatures were perceived differently by each member of the group; they were symbolic to them somehow.

To Jaden, the monsters took the appearance of vaguely humanoid creatures... but had feminine features like breasts and buttocks but no genitals beyond that. They walked on all fours, but on their left side, they had a scar-like they were cut apart. They had dark skin and had vaguely reptile-like scales. They had a messy head of black hair... but each of them.

To Kaitlyn, they were all spider-like. All having eight limbs... that were all oddly long human arms that ended with hands with more fingers any human arm should have. As for their body, they had the body of Amelia. They were almost exact copies of her if they weren't so spider-like in appearance. They had her face, her body... except their breasts were comically oversized. They all grinned at Kaitlyn as she was forced to pause for a second.

To Rita... they were large tall vaguely humanoid creatures with no head. They were featureless, no signs of gender or anything, except they had overtly long arms. Perfect copies of her mother's hands that she can't get out of her head.

There were hundreds of them, all coming down on the group from all directions.

Jaden knew this was not a fight they could win... even with Extra-Normal abilities. However, he looked around and these freaks were everywhere. "Make a way out, somehow!" Jaden shouted as he fired off a few blasts into the familiar-looking creatures. They were paused for a second but Jaden could not do real damage to them. One of these freaks lunged at him and Jaden put both of his hands up as he created a blue forcefield around himself to stop the blow. The thing kept attacking the barrier he put up but he saw some coming from around.

Kaitlyn had an idea to make a way out. Her abstraction turned on as a giant wave roared and went down the street and Katie could feel the uncomfortable cold hit her body like she was just dropped in the bottom of the deep blue sea. The creatures were washed away... but there was a lot of them. By the time the water disappeared she only cut a small chunk of them out of the picture.

Rita didn't know what the hell to do... she grabbed a rock and hoped for the best.

Wake up! Come on, Eli. Wake up!

Elias sat up, chest tight and breath short. The last thing he remembered was leaving his parents' house to go to the airport. He had a photo shoot in New York he was the makeup artist for. His luggage had his kit and enough clothes for one night. There was a crash in the forest, then a purple light engulfed him before he could get his foot in the car. Now he's somewhere dark, on top of concrete, and cold. His long, black, lace wrap and short flow black dress didn't do anything to keep him warm. At least he wore his teal cowboy boots, so his feet weren't freezing. Distantly, he heard screaming.

"Do you know what's goin' on, Elle?"

No, but I don't like it. But I have a hunch it has something to do with me.

Elias didn't like the sound of that at all. He's gotten used to the voice in his head that's not his own and he loves it dearly, even seeing colors around people don't freak him out anymore, but lines have to be drawn somewhere and teleporting purple light is where he's drawing it.

The darkness lit up. Through the doorway he saw red and a group of people fighting...tentacles? And more screaming. He got up and speed walked towards the light and people. Maybe one of them knows what's going on.

Don't go. Those things are dangerous.

"Yeah, I got that, but strength in numbers and I'd quite like not being alone."

Yes, please. Pretend I don't exist.

"Couldn't, even if I wanted to, love. Not that I do." He reassured it.

Elias walked through the opening the same time the tentacles disappeared. He hesitated walking up to the group, but it was scary and creepy and whatever the hell that was could come back. Like hell he's going to be by himself. The group glowed like the sun, not bright, but yellow. There wasn't a person that didn't feel the same way he did. He walked up to the fringes of the group, there were street lights, but they didn't do much to see what was in the chasm, but a vague city outline. Not that it mattered when they went off a few seconds later. A cacophony of moans and groans came from the dark.

I don't like the sound of that. Get back, Eli.

Elias wasn't gonna disagree with it, so he back up right as the lights came back and revealed a horde of giant creatures with conjoined bodies. Two heads, one male, the other female with smeared makeup. Both were grotesque, their bodies fused in the middle, so they had three legs instead of four, one arm each, and mutilated genitals.

"Make a way out, somehow!"

Elle couldn't tell who said it, but it didn't care. Keeping Elias safe was the only thing on its mind. In the time it took for a woman to wash a small dent of the creatures away, Elle shot out of Elias and formed a barrier twenty feet in diameter around him and anyone standing in range. The barrier was pink and had five arms, four in the cardinal directions and one on top.

"Since when could you do that?"

Since always. Now move!

Elias didn't know where to go, but it was between the chasm and the warehouse. He couldn't see what was beyond it with the creatures in the way, so he ran towards the warehouse. Elle grabbed creatures and chucked them back in all directions. Large fist came down on the top, the one hand grabbed it and punched it away with another, but the undefended side gave them an opening to hit the barrier. A crack formed in its spot and Elias got a headache and almost tripped. He stopped, dizzy. It last a few seconds, then he continued on. Was the warehouse this far from the chasm? He didn't think it was, but he could be wrong.
