Hey there, my name's Zoey, I'm 20 years old and livin' it up in lockdown here in Texas. In other words, I've got some freetime on my hands and I'd like to try my hand at some GMing. This'll be my first time but I've been inspired by some other RP's I'm in so I'd like to give creating my own world a shot. So, in this RP, you'll be playing Batwoman, and I'll be controlling all the NPC's and stuff and we'll make a cool story together!
Let's get some rules out of the way first. If any of these are a turn off we won't have to waste any more of your time!
1. Post like...once or twice a week? Let me know if you can't. If you go one week without any messages I'll send you a check up and then a week after that I'll drop you. If you need to go away for a while just let me know and you can be gone for much longer, as long as you need. But if you post more than one time a day, I will try to do the same.
2. FxF romance only. We can write smut if you'd like but it's not the primary focus of this RP so don't feel pressured at all. (ask me about Peril if you know what i mean) This RP can be 100% story, and it'll probably be better off for it, lol. In your first PM just let me know how you feel about the subject. If it comes up at all in the RP, though, it'll be FxF. But it doesn't have to come up at all, and I don't care what you identify as, it's call good with me.
3. This RP may deal with the worst and best of humanity. There will be mentions of drugs, violence, muder, sexual assault, and human trafficking, aswell as themes of mental illness. I'm going to portray the subjects as respectfully and tactfully as I can. I'm not going to revel in grimdarkness or edgyness but this stuff is going to come up at some point. If that makes you uncomfortable I totally understand.
4. This RP won't necessarily be pro-cop or pro-government. Besides people like Commisioner Gordon, Gotham City is corrupt from the bottom up, and I plan on having our hero battle police officers. If that kind of thing makes you uncomfortable, I totally understand.
5. Grammar! You don't have to write much. I need a decent rundown on what your character is thinking at any given moment. Other than that, I only need a single paragraph to be happy. Obviously, the more you put into this RP, the more you'll get out of it because I have more to work with and will be having more fun. Don't be afraid to write a lot, if you really want, but sometimes during dialogue or action there is less for your character to think about.
I think that about sums it up when it comes to rules and warnings. If this all sounds good then let's get onto the actual stuff we're going to be RPing about.
So, in this alternate universe, Bruce Wayne never existed. Instead, Thomas and Martha Wayne had a baby girl named, well, whatever you want. Her name doesn't have to start with a B, but it can if you want. They were murdered in a mugging gone wrong and that girl went onto become Batwoman, or even a different name if you prefer. I will give you plenty of room to characterize the Dark Knight. The no-killing rule remains in place, I think that is one of Batman's most compelling qualities. Perhaps she could break it during the course of our RP but that's up to you. How violent she is however, is up to you, the world will react accordingly.
Wayne and Batwoman do a lot of things in conflict with other people's interests. How these conflicts play out will be decided between you and I. We can go into a fight scene, with full knowledge of who will win and lose. We could even go into a collaboration platform like Google docs for faster, more interactive fight scenes, I think that would be fun. The same thing goes for negotiations, interrogations, or investigations. Let's be honest, none of us is as smart as Batwoman is. I don't expect you to have 200 iq and be immersed enough in this text game to come up with genius crime fighting schemes and tactics. The two of us planning it out will make it much easier to have cooler stuff happen, so that's what we are gonna do. I may keep a few surprises but I won't pull the rug. This isn't a game you're trying to win, it's a story between the two of us.
Your character can look however you want! I gave a few examples at the top but really anything is on the table. She can be any ethnicity, and wear any outfit. From armored, to form fitting, steel, cloth, or padded, leather. Badass, sexy, both. Just...try to stay away from high heels. I can suspend my disbelief for a lot, but not high heels. You just can't fight people in high heels.
Your character won't be winning all her fights. Crime fighting is hard, and she's only one person. So this won't be a total power fantasy. On the whole, though, it's pretty much a power fantasy because Batman is a cool badass hero who kicks people's butts and wipes the floor with crime. But defeat usually comes before victory and failure is dramatic. That'll be something you and I can collaborate further on when the time comes.
Okay, story lines! Here's what I'm working with right now.
First of all, I'm going to be changing some things and going with the classics. Some stuff will be pulled from different source material, or I just made it up. The Nolanverse, some comics, video games, other movies. Lots stuff will be changed. For example, lots of different roles will be played by different people. Probably lots of gender bending with a majority of characters being female. Just letting you know. It's an alternate universe! Truth be told there's lots of different interpretations and retellings of these characters out there, and I don't want to compete with things I know I can't do better than, lol. So just letting you know that people might look, act, or be named differently.
YC and the League of Shadows. We start at the very beginning of YC's story, with her travelling across the world and getting ninja training and all that. Late teens. Minor mysticism will be involved. This RP is not entirely grounded in reality. YC can use gadgets and cunning but her martial arts will be semi-supernaturally enhanced to further justify some of the shenanigans she'll be able to pull off. Just a little something to make sure that her getting punched through a wall wouldn't ring the "hey she should be totally dead" alarms, you know?
However, we can skip over the League of Shadows training should you so wish and jump straight into Batwoman's first night of crimefighting. She'll be in her mid twenties at this point. We'll start things grounded, with YC targeting the infamous Carmine Falcone crime syndicate and other various mob groups. She'll battle against Gotham Cities corruption and struggle to build a small network of people she can trust. D and C tier villains will appear.
Meanwhile, YC in Wayne form will be attempting to do good with her public persona, devoting almost all of her wealth and resources into improving Gotham City. Eventually, both Wayne and her alter ego will become targets as they tread into places no one should, to fight crime on both fronts.
Things will escalate as Batgirl, or whatever YC calls herself, wins more victories. Eventually she will have to target the lawful systems and begin to make changes there. Arkham Asylum, for example, is suspicious and overall not helping anything. The Mayor is corrupt. Just, bad stuff all around. The Caped Crusaders is a controversial figure. Side characters like Commissioner Gordon or Vicki Vale will appear. Catwoman, too. Harvey Dent begins making moves against crime.
Once victory is mostly assured against the crime families, more fantastical villains will begin to appear. The Riddler, the Penguin, Bane. I'm saving the Joker for "late game content", as it were.
I've got some ideas! I hope you have some, too. If you do, please feel free to discuss them with me and we can see if they fit into the story I'm cooking up. This RP will be as long as you want it too. YC can get sidekicks and eventually save Gotham and get a happily ever after, or we come up with new threats after that.
I'm excited!
If you are interested, just write me up a character sheet. Don't use the one with all the parenthesis in it.
Name: ___ Wayne (something something Wayne. Your Batwoman can have any name!) Appearance (face claim, physical description, art, or any combination): Costume (art, description, you get it): Preferred starting point (League of Shadows, or first year of crime fighting): Backstory moments (some select moments from Batwoman's life that define who she is. Use as a personality section so you and I can learn who she is based on the actions and things she said during these moments. Who was she before the murder of her parents? What did she do during, after? Anything you want, but the more we learn about her through these events the better.): Romance (Full-on NSFW, fade to black, or only married to blind Lady Justice): Text Color (insert color code here, or put N/A if you're not interested in that kind of thing(i just think it looks nice)):
Just...write me something up! if you want! I'm pretty laid back. You can't really make any mistakes here, if there's anything I want more from you, I'll just ask you if you don't mind.
Thanks for reading through all my nonsense. This will be my first time GMing a world so I'm excited to begin.
The following won't be happening all at once, but will build on each other over time. Allies and enemies. Batwoman isn't alone in her quest to save Gotham but there is certainly no shortage of enemies.
Arcs:
Batwoman vs Falcone
Batwoman, with the help of the good members of the GCPD, routes out corruption and strikes back against the major crime syndicate that has run Gotham since the 20's. Carmine Falcone has had connections with the Wayne family in the past, and she is forced to call into question the nature of the parents she has looked up to for all these years.
Batwoman vs The Penguin
Carmine isn't the only crime lord in town. The Copplebot family has long warred with the Falcone family and everything seems to be coming to a head. The Cobblepots have been a family in Gotham for centuries and were once a well renowned name. But the Wayne's put them out of business and now the Penguine, the last remaining member of the Cobblepot family, has taken to the streets for years now to rebuild the Cobblepots as a criminal empire and has succeeded.
Batwoman vs Black Mask
Old money isn't the only money, and only recently have a band of criminals known as the Black Masks been making moves in Gotham City. There seem to be more to their motives than money and power, which interest Batwoman.
Wayne vs Arkham
Wayne battles against the evils of Arkham Asylum, attempting to reform it and create a place where the criminally insane can go to be reformed. This is one of her most longest lasting and hardest to win battles as the public believes as long as the criminals are locked up or dead they cannot harm anyone. The mysterious Elizabeth Arkham runs the facility, and performs inhumane experiments with the help of one Hugo Strange on the prisoners within.
Wayne vs Mayor Hill
The mayor is in the pocket and works with the corrupt politicans of Gotham to maintain the crime families flow of income. A mediator between the oldest crime families and the law, he has continued the long standing tradition of the Mayor's Seat being nothing more than the strings attatched to a puppet. All the while he puts on a face of being tough on crime, and his elite task force smash through Gotham's poor districts. Brutality feeds off brutality and even cops not working with the mob have become nothing more than thugs in uniform.
Batwoman and Lieutanent Gordon
Barbara Gordon knows that the GCPD is corrupt, and she and her group of close friends are trying to make things better from the inside. But both the law, both legal and criminal, are keeping them subdued. Batwoman will find an ally in the daughter of renowned Commissioner James Gordon and together they can make the police force something to be relied on again, rather than a tool of fear and of evil.
Wayne and Harvey Dent
One politician aims to make changes, and he has a target painted on his back because of it. Wayne will find an ally in Harvey Dent and his crusade and crime. Harvey aims to put the criminals and the insane where they belong, and forever shut the revolving doors of Arkham and Blackgate. But Harvey is treading in dangerous waters, and when one looks into the abyss, it tends to look back.
Wayne and Harley Quinn
A psychiatrist working at Arkham Asylum and moonlighting at Blackgate, Harley Quinn has seen the hostile, brutal environments of both places and aims to make it a better place. Wayne and Batwoman will find an ally in her as she wades into the waters of madness in hopes to find the truth.
Batwoman vs Bane
Batwoman isn't the only vigilante in town, though Bane's methods are of the lethal variety. Not to mention drug dealing and attempting to accrue power in Gotham's underworld, Bane seems to be against evil in lip service only. Or perhaps Bane believes that one can only find salvation in the ashes.
Batwoman vs Catwoman
The two similarly named, darkly dressed women who crawl the Gotham rooftops come into conflict. Catwoman works for dangerous people and herself, stealing valuable technology from various places including Wayne enterprises. Upon further investigation, the caped crusader discovers there may be more to the cat burglar than just thrill seeking and greed. Perhaps they mirror each other more than they realised, and maybe they can become friends, allies, or more.
@Cai Chaos You can have your Batwoman's personality be a clone of an already existing superhero, sure, but the story we're writing together is going to be different from canon. Mainly because I don't want to compete with professional writers in my storytelling, lol. Ultimately though your Batwoman is going to be a replacement of Bruce Wayne in this universe, but she can behave however you'd like.
Barbara Gordon is the commissioner in this universe, taking after her father, though there was an additional commissioner inbetween the two of them that didn't want another Gordon in the position, even though she worked her way up fair and square. As dirty as Gotham is now, it was even dirtier back in her father's day and he tried his best to clean it up, but he was working against the powers that be in an 80's Gotham. The commissioner that came after him did his best to undo some of his work but it was Barbara that did most of the work and stopping him, revealing him as dirty in a way that even the mostly corrupt department couldn't ignore. Now she's commissioner, but her authority is on shaky grounds. Some people call her Barbara "Homicide" Gordon since she used to work in and then supervise the Homicide detective squad, and killed a few people in her quest to clean up the GCPD. But don't call her that to her face though, or you might be the next person on her kill list.
other ideas:
James Gordon is the commissioner, and her daughter Barbara eventually becomes one of your Batwoman's sidekicks, like usual.
Other ideas:
Barbara Gordon isn't the commissioner. Instead, getting her instated is a victory and a goal to be worked towards as Batwoman helps her clean up the GCPD and gain more authority instead of retaining and proving the authority she already has. I like this idea a lot, but currently trying to figure out how to make it interesting as Batwoman nor Wayne can't be that involved with police politics. But it could give Barbara and excuse to come out and work directly with Batwoman on more occasions since she would still be deployed to the field. But at the same time, commissioner gordon has never been afraid to work the field. If you have any ideas or preferences, let me know.
