Synopsis:
WORM is the first web serial published by John C. McCrae AKA Wildbow. It totals roughly 1.68 million words. The story focuses on an introverted teenage girl with an unconventional superpower. Taylor goes out in costume to find escape from a deeply unhappy and frustrated civilian life. Her first attempt at taking down a supervillain sees her mistaken for one, thrusting her into the midst of the local ‘cape’ scene’s politics, unwritten rules, and ambiguous morals. As she risks life and limb, Taylor faces the dilemma of having to do the wrong things for the right reasons.

The Roleplay:
It would be an open world dark superhero roleplay taking place in any place of your/our choosing. The book primarily takes place in the town of "Brockton Bay" on the East Coast, but many real-life places are mentioned in the book. It would be Casual or Advanced level play with at least six participants including but not limited to: heroes, villains, rogues, and/or civilians. May take place before, during, or after Worm, in the same or alternate universe depending on our choosing.

NOTE: The roleplay may not be suitable for young or sensitive readers, as it may contain swearing or suggestive language or scenes. While the roleplay could be fun for those who have not read or are still reading the books, be warned that the roleplay may contain spoilers. I do not claim rights to Worm or the fan art images in this post.

I'd potentially be interested in this, based on how much free time I have and whether or not I can think of a character.

Personally, I'd like to see a story that was a little smaller in scale; something that didn't drag our characters into the huge events that happen during the novel. Maybe we could write something based around a significant but still somewhat local event; like if we wrote about what happened at one of the quarantine sites that led to the towns being abandoned after villains took over, or about a local villain war started in the aftermath of a big player or players being removed (like the Boston games), or a new villain arriving in town and making a big splash (maybe even a cell of the Elite looking to take over). Something with a focused plot and a small cast.

I'd be interested if I knew a little bit more.

I agree with King Cosmos about starting with something on a smaller scale, like the Boston Games. It would also be easier if we have it set in an alternate universe so we don't have to stick to the established timeline or characters.

As for the location, I would vote for Boston MA, Manchester NH or maybe New York City. But I would be open to other areas.

Honestly though, its been a few years since I've role played. And back then I was only a participant and not a leader or anything. I made a few RPs in the past, but they were open ended with no plot planned out. Lasted a few months to a year, each of them, regardless.

Not sure I could actually lead a Worm roleplay, but I'm certainly itching to try with some help. Or maybe just solo if there's not enough interest.

Question for anybody: Would it be preferable to have an entirely new cast of characters (no canon characters from the book), or have canon characters as NPC, or allow people to play existing characters? Just can't decide.

@LostButterfly92 If we're doing an entirely new location, then it makes sense that there wouldn't be any canon characters at first. Some of the bigger players might show up as NPCs later on, like the Triumvirate, if it makes sense though.

I'd play an original character either way (maybe multiple if we need a larger cast), since I don't like playing canons, but I'm not opposed to someone else using existing characters.

I'm not really into having canon characters or events, either.

Canon characters tend to overshadow PCs, when they don't feel wrong one reason or another. Meanwhile canon events aren't exactly done with roleplaying in mind, leaving very little wriggle room.

And, if you ask me, RPs set in an established settings in general should go against the expectations, otherwise it feels like we're just treading old ground.

However, since Manchester is an unexplored part of the Wormverse, or at least I think so, we should be fine.

@LostButterfly92 I heavily think we should be all original with big wigs like the Triumvirate and Slaughterhouse Nine be mentioned in passing tbh.

If we're not doing any big events then it's unlikely any of them would show up.
